"I am a thought, that enters into every fragment of reality,
I am every emotion known by the world of time,
I am all the questions asked by a four yrs old,
I am the water and the fire,
I am the earth and the air,

I am life at its present form, just a moment of the Endless Worldwide Story,

I am happiness and sadness,
I am kindness and...
I am peace and war,
I am Contraddiction in its purest form,

I am simply
a woman's soul."

I started off by saying that a project like this one would not have interested me as I did not wish to have to take one photo per day....well....the proof is that I am here! Am looking forward to this year 2007, and one thing is sure, I will try to make it as good as possible! (just changed the photo....an "unpublished" one just for this diary!!!)

Any advise, any comments....well, just feel free! ;-)

Beans 4-3-2-1

So...here I am, have come back from my family Xmas in Italy and have also been feeling poorly for the past 10days, with flu and cold...so no smoking for a while ( am loosing the habit....ohhhh noooooooo!) and I needed to find something to do! As a good italian, have started cooking ( we need to think of the belly, very important for the well being of one's body and soul!) and have come up with this:

take some dried beans, soak them overnight,
fry in some olive oil the onion until transparent, add some tomato chunks, simmer for a few minutes, add some garlic ( whole ,so you can remove it after approx 20mins of cooking), add the soaked beans and some stock prepared with a vegetable stock cube ( I use vegetable one cause am vegeterian!!!), add some parsley and pepper.....let it simmer for 2 and 1/2 hours.....add some salt...and that's done! Easy!!!

Today even though I can not smoke I am feeing better, let's hope a fast recovery has begun!

Here in Portugal we call that feijoada, and it also as bits of carrots, tomato, cabbage and (for the non vegetarians) peaces of meat and chouriços(that's similar to sausages). Looks yummy, I'll have to go and grab some food...

3rd jan 2007 - Shopping List

Today is the first day since I have been back to France when I actually stepped out of my apartment (the reason being the flu I am trying to get rid of...!)... so I thought a trip to the supermarket was needed and easy enough for me to manage... here is my shopping list, however, after having written it, I just realized:
How on earth can somebody be so messed up "language" wise.... this list is mainly written in Italian, with a touch of english and french...........!
How can I put my head right if I can not even agree with myself in what language I write my shopping lists?????aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh! (totally lost!)
brash deer [deleted] 12 years ago

Il n'y a pas d'expression en Italien pour "papier toilette" ? c'est le seul de la liste en francais.......

(Didier 2007 )
Italian Papillon 12 years ago
@ Atryu:....i have always felt the morse language was too rational for me...don't know why..;-)

@ Frere Jacques: that could well have been a solution!!!! :-)

@ Didier: Carta igienica..... (ohhhhh yes! it does exist!)....but in my mind is in french......?!?!?!
~ Phil Moore 12 years ago
The solution has to be to not make lists - just wander around the markets and buy what you fancy, and what the sellers manage to entice you with :)

Then, when you realise you've forgotten the papier toilette you can resort to a lettuce leaf ^_^
Italian Papillon 12 years ago
....lol...and I suppose it's biodegradable too!!! ;0)
leroyer 12 years ago
Damn, the only thing you can think of in french is toilet paper !

And about the flu, I got the perfect medication for you : flickr@paris's monthly meeting tonight !!!

Interesting - your bean dish is called "Fasolada" in Greek. Carrots and celery are necessary ingredients, as are feta cheese and red wine as accompaniments.

I hope it is permissible to post a link to a Greek butterfly?

Rob
Italian Papillon 12 years ago
@ Atryu: nothing wrong with a little pose for the picture!!! ( hope your computer is feeling better...;-))

@ RobW: yes Rob, I could have put also in with the onion the carrots and celery, however I did not have these, so had to make it without...this seems to be a popular dish all around Europe by the look of it!

Thank you for the link to the beautiful picture of the Greek butterfly! :-)

Is it graphing paper normally used for every day writing? I'm noticing this with more frequency lately, but I've never done it.

The whole "writing on the lines" kinda freaks my anal side out.

Alas. Keep on clickin'!

That Flickr meeting looks great fun! Wish I could have been there. I would not drink milk, but Champagne.

Apropos of earlier discussion in this thread, we had fasolada/fagiolata/feijoada for lunch today.
francophony 12 years ago
In response to Sontra's comment, I can't deal with the little square paper (petits carreaux). I long for normal, lined paper to come into fashion in France, but instead, I have to settle for the paper with the five-lined square stuff.

I've gotten used to it now, but in the beginning it really freaked me out.
mscjwharton 12 years ago
Here in France you have a choice between the graph paper and a paper with lines like for a business leger. Both seem way too weird to me but not much choice.
Hope you are feeling better Miss Butterfly. Nice seeing you again.
Italian Papillon 12 years ago
@ Frere Jacques: that's god news!!! ;-)

@ Sontra, Francophony: actually, for me that usually is always out of boundaries...having a graph paper helps at least in writing shopping lists!!! ;-)) Onto a more serious note, no, this sheet of paper belongs to a folder bought a too long way back in Italy, when I was still a student....so I suppose it can not be called a "french matter".....:-)

@ RobW: that's what I did...drinking champagne....niiiiiiiiice!!! Thank you! :-)

@ mscjwharton: Am feeling much much better....Thank you so! And yes, nice seeing YOU again!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)
leroyer 12 years ago
@BIP : you should drink champagne way more often... when I'm around.

@ BG: if you order so ( to drink more often champagne) my UBG, than I need to oblige....heehhee!!! ;0)

Funny you should ask that, about paper, am happy to clarify the meaning of this BG, here it goes...

Paper is a thin material produced by the amalgamation of plant fibres, which are subsequently held together without extra binder, largely by hydrogen bonds and fiber entanglement. The fibres used are usually natural and composed of cellulose. The most common source of these kinds of fibers is wood pulp from pulpwood trees, largely softwoods such as spruce. However, other vegetable fibre materials including cotton, hemp, linen, and rice may be used.

Happy?
;-))))

@sunshinecity: they are GREAT!!!! :-)

5th january 2007 - Late Christmas amongst best girlfriends (x3)

A full day: got to prepare dinner for two of my best girlfriends here in order to celebrate our late Xmas and exchange gifts...This year we could not find a date before Xmas so we agreed to celebrate it later, as soon as everybody was back into the City of Lights....so a special dinner: this was just the cocktail/starter: all based on things coming from the sea.....as a main course I cooked some "bar" a white whole fish prepared in papillotte style, into the oven, followed by a beautiful tray of french cheeses and the famous Galette des Rois....champagne and Bordeaux red Wine....a really nice evening, lots of talks amongst good good friends, and exchange of gifts. One of the gift I received was a bracelet wishing me to find happiness this year....well...........just let's hope and cross those fingers!!! :-)

6th january 2007 - La galette des Rois

Another evening spent amongst friend - always three of us but slightly different gathering than the one before.....still with champagne and Galette des Rois, but this time this last one had been home made by one of the girls....the very first time for me that I have eaten the Galette des Rois home made....delicious! I also stayed overnight to this girlfriend's house....I slept onto a little room underneath the wooden beams of her house roof...it was like a little corner to myself, above the apartment.......in amongst lights and beams....The feeling was protection and distance from it all...really peculiar but so comfortable at the same time!!!

@ Philippe: Thank you BG, I try to explain to my self a max of feelings that I feel, and try to translate these into words, and it is really a great satisfaction when other people understand those type of feelings through the words I chose....great! ( and the great thing of this diary is that they can tell me so, like you did or like Samrag did...it feels good!)

One thing I decided a while back....is....to BE the person I AM, with also my small contraddictions, however to keep myself loyal to myself and what I feel.... and yes, it is what I do and what motivates me....Thanking you once again for appreciating this and saying so aloud... really! :-)

It is good to do this for yourself only, in fact that is the instruction on the front page of the group. So I guess we are all doing this for ourselves. On the other hand, what we post is public, and I think we all share a curiosity about each others' lives and stories, so we visit and follow several of these chronicles. And this is a photo-sharing and social-networking site after all, so it is great to seek out good and interesting photographs and photographers, and meet fascinating new people.

But for sure, keep on doing what you have expressed in your last paragraph, in life and work, not only here.

It is very odd how we can stumble upon foreign places where we are immedately comfortable. Sometimes it is because of the company we are in, other times it is just the location. Paris is like that for me -- the minute I arrived, it felt like home.

7th Jan 2007 - back to my apartment

After waking up at my friends house, we had lunch with another friend and yes, I cooked....( all my life seems to be cooking, drinking champagne and seeing friends!!! not so bad after all :-))....cooking for the first time for these friends pasta with a homemade Blue cheese sauce.....drinking red wine....fantastic! We chatted away until late afternoon, and then I decided it was time to get back into my apartment....to put some order in the photos I had taken, and to relax. I did not go to bed late, as you can see, but I went to bed with a herb tea, the book am reading at present.......and that's a very good simplicity, which I love and need sometimes! Spending time on my own, for me it is not spending time alone....'cause I am actually with myself, so I have got company!!! :-)))

9th january 2007 - Dinner with a friend!

It was going to be a very unremarkable day, nothing really apart from sending out CV's ( yes am looking for a job) and working onto images, computer etc..but...as a surprise a friend called me, she was not going to do anything in the evening either, so I invited to my house to have dinner together and chat and talk and chat some more...it lasted up 'til 2am...with my mad neighbour banging on the wall because apparently we were doing too much noise ( if you call too much just two people talking away...well...)...nice evening YEAH!!!!

Maybe we should send your neighbor a set of noise-canceling headphones so he/she doesn't stand a chance of getting in the way of you continuing to post these photos.

Love the soft focus and color tone on this one.

@ Colleen: yes, really thin.......however even though I hear my other neighbours....i never complain because we still have the right of living our lives, even if the wall are so thin......it is just respect I believe...unless we'd give a party of 20 people each evening with loud music...but definitely this was not the case! ;-)

lool the neigbor banging....I always love when during a party the neighbor come to bang at the door...and he seen that the people who open the door watch him/heard him....but don't understand what he wants because of too much excess (drinks & pots ...:)

and he go back, rumbling in his mouth, threating to calling the police...wich never come...
and the day after you know that he will seen you throught the door by his little glass-hole with hate in brain :)

Glucozze....I know what you mean, but this not not a party like the one you described...not at all....it was just two friends talking drinking and eating...and my neighbour has never the courage of knocking on the door.....just banging onto walls...that's all....she's a mad woman! Thank you for passing by...;-)

10th january

10th january 2007- The sky is my company tonight

Got up really late....one of those days when the bed stays undone.....did not have much sleep, don't know why but I feel quite unsettled...there must be a reason somewhere...
Went to help a friend translating a complaining letter from french to italian, had coffee with her and chatted away about her plans for the future...which may well include a move, a marriage and a baby....WOW! I think she's really settling her life, am so pleased for her, but at the same time it just makes me think of mine...and how unsettled I am...double WOW!
This photo has been taken from my kitchen window, it is the view I look at everyday, with some wonderful skies ( as you can see).... no photoshop, just cropped......that's all!
It reminds me of something........the most beautiful skies I have ever seen were in England.... the clouds over there just seem to take such a dramatic emphasis...and often! Why is it that I seem to always have my nose up looking at skies or stars?
