Through A Looking Glass

Here is my life in snapshots. 365 angles of my world. Artsy. Pretentious. Emotional. Whatever. At least there's reason to believe that this year will be better than the last.

And I'll even make you a deal: If you show me yours, I'll show you mine.

A Baptism by Rain

A Baptism by Rain

It's a new year. Which means time for a fresh start. Today, I let the rain cover me. It was cold and wet. And refreshing.

Maybe that can last. :)

This is the starting point. Everything grows from here. As it is each time I start a new diary, all you get is the brief introduction. The backstory has already happened and is gone.

Pressure Pressure - feeling that my daily photos are pretty boring compared to some of the artzy fartzy stuff you guys are posting! But great photo, like how it is not straight, and you are offcenter - like the camera just happened to lie there and take photo of you doing your stuff in the rain.

Look forward to the next post from you - Pressure all on you ;-)

@Everyone: Thank you all! I hope to keep interesting you all. It'll be hard, though. So many people with great diary photos to keep up with.

@Samrag: Don't be silly. No pressure! Your photos are delightful. My favourite diary photo thus far is probably your January 1st. So cute!

Art is a big deal to me, so my photos will reflect that. And not all of them will, either. Some will be boring and unimportant. January 2's is one of those, I think.

Money + Bills = Broke

Money + Bills = Broke

Speaking of pressure, Samrag...

Paying one's own way through university is rough. Intellectually, I've always known this. But it was never real to me until the government decided that I was only eligible for a tenth of my required funds.

Then it became a matter of working my ass off.

Textbooks. Tuition. Food. Rent. And see that one receipt from Future Shop? That's my Christmas gift to myself. That I still haven't decided if I can afford.

Money isn't scary. It's the forced dependence on money that is. I don't want to be wealthy. I'd just like to be happy.

Ugh. I feel like an idiot for complaining. Normally, it's not the sort of thing you would hear from me. Just one of those days where the pressure just slinks in and you need to worry about something minor to ignore the major stuff.
Sandra.Pi 11 years ago
well, you have a new fan!!! i really love rainy pictures and the responsability of paying the bills and working yourself through university makes you a very respectable person (at least in my book, i've got to admit..i'm a brat and i have had it easy), keep up the pictures and down with the pressure!

Drowning Sorrows

Drowning Sorrows

I had a great plan to take a few shots on campus today, seeing as it is the first day back.

Sadly, my camera batteries died after I had my first shot ready.

Instead, I came home and felt just kind of nuts. I was going to lay down, spend some time just relaxing with music on. And then I didn't. I decided to put some batteries in the camera and just play with the idea of a nuts photo. This is the result. Emotional and pretentious enough for anyone? =) I think it tells a story, which is what I'm all about. Story-telling.

It looks better in large view, methinks. I'm a bit nervous about it, so do lemmie know whatcha think. Even if it's, "Oy. That kid needs to tone down the artsy."

=)

It wasn't hers to take...

Something's missing since she left...

So today was a good day. I overslept a whole bunch. Which is fine. My prof won't mind as long as it doesn't become a habit. Which it won't. Because I am going to start to become a morning person. It's 4:40 am as I write this.

It's going to take a while.

The only thing that consumed me was my computer. After classes, I played around. It was a delight. I should be out looking for a new job, but I'm okay for right now. And that's what I'll focus on. In a few days, I'll apply for some jobs. I'll get one of them. And I'll be satisfied with it. Why? Because it's what I do.

Other highlights: None. That's the kind of day today was. There were no lights, high or low. Which is just fine with me. Average days are good days.

Woah. Thanks everyone! Me disappearing for a couple days left me with quite a few messages. =)

@Maia: I wish I had a tripod. I did a bunch of different things. The shower itself was done by a combination of tying the camera to the showerhead and holding the camera. I took somewhere between fifteen and twenty shots before I ended up with something workable. As for the bath shots, I've tried my best to hide the fact that I'm holding the camera. Long arms is a real benefit. =) Disappointing mystery, really. :D

@Ladybad: Wouldn't that be delightful. =)

@bunaen: Good! As someone once told me, find your bliss. =)

@NicoleB: I'm back! There's a story behind that. Here goes.

The Past Few Days (Or: The Story of All-Consuming Anger)

When I was working in the summer, I decided that a laptop would be a wonderful treat for myself (not to mention the benefits as a student). So I bought one. New. From Staples. Great deal.

I now live on that laptop. Pictures. Schoolwork. Writing. Anything. I stopped using a planner, instead going for a software solution.

You can guess what happens next.

It breaks... More precisely, the monitor does. Backlight won't turn on. Thus, my computer is perfectly fine. But I can't SEE that it's perfectly fine. Which is the same as a giant problem.

Fortunately, it's under a three year warrenty.

Unfortunately, my laptop is gone for the next twenty-eight days.

Twenty-eight days without my primary method of... everything.

They were very nice about it. I wonder, in retrospect, if I could have borrowed a floor model from them. But that wouldn't really be helpful. As it's the content, not the actual laptop that's essential. That being said, I miss the functionality of it.

So I'm without a laptop.

I do have a PC, so my life isn't at an all-stop. But without my laptop, everything is more difficult. And thus... I've been disappeared for while. But I'm back! And I've been taking pictures every day, so that's still happening. =)

And these last few days have been... Just. Ugh. But more on that with the pictures.

Shadow Boxing

Shadow Boxing

It's just one of those days where you're fighting with yourself. Conflicted on what to do. What to choose.

It's Friday though. There's some joy in that.

My plans for the weekend involve visiting with friends in order to make them think I'm not ditching them. Just needing a lot of alone time lately. I've been told that too much is unhealthy, but I'm not entirely sure I agree.

After all, if you can somehow get "too much" of yourself you'll be in trouble in the long run.

Fuck.

Fuck

Remember that whole "average days are good"?

This is why they are. All it takes is one bad day to throw someone who is unstable completely back into the lovely emotional low that is depression.

I'm taking care of my aunt's cats while she is on vaction. I lived with these cats when I used to stay with my aunt. So I'm pretty attached to them. But one of them has been acting kinda weird over the past couple of days. At first, I thought it was because my aunt was gone and she missed her.

Yesterday, she stopped eating entirely. She was also acting the classic, "Cat looking for a place to die". If you've ever had an old cat, you know what that's like.

I don't deal with death very well. I was the one who got the phone at four a.m. the night my grandfather passed away. I walked out the door, got about ten blocks before I just collapsed in the snow. That's where I stayed for two hours.

Like I said. Don't deal with it so well.

For the better part of today, I've been worried about this cat. I took her to the vet. At which point, they vet phoned my aunt and they talked. Then I found out two things. One, she's very sick. Two, she needs to spend the next three days at the animal hospital. Because she may have any number of very shitty things.

I took the cat to the hospital and she seemed so lifeless.

And then, because I can't help but think about a damn cat... I backed into some lady's car. Fucked up her door. And my aunt's car. Which I didn't even want to drive, but she insisted on it because it would be "better for Molly".

Right now I'm running through my options. I have no way of affording to fix the car. Either one, actually. I do have the shitty student loan I just received which doesn't even pay for my tuition, but could probably pay off the car damages. But then I'd have absolutely no chance of paying of tuition in three weeks when fees are due.

So, to sum up my lovely day: Likely dying cat + some amount of money that I don't have in car damages + the realization that I probably can't go to university + every aspect of my life that I felt I had control over kicking me while I'm down = Today. This is the part where I give up.

Anyone hear that sound? That's my previously slightly hopeful few weeks going down the shitter.

Fuck this day.

Reading your thread...photos in bath are very interesting - catchy..

When I have a bad day I use the following thought (from days as helicopter medic in vietnam) : If no one is shooting at you and you don't have to dig another hole - its a good day ! Every day is good now ! Made it home 30 years ago in relatively one piece and life has been good ever since. IF it don't kill you it makes you stronger - your experiences make you stronger, not the opposite !

When unplesant things happen it is just an "is" not a "why". Things don't happen to you because...they just happen. Its what you do afterwards that makes the diffrence. Take a walk and find another real life photo for us please !

Sending you tons of energy and hugs, if it was that bad, the next one, the one who is waiting for you is going to take it all away, while this happens you will get stronger and someday (let's hope this year someday) it will all be a bad memory, but just that!!!

or at least i hope...

take care, hope to hear from you and your pics again
