Breathed upon is the literal meaning of the word inspiration.

Last year a lot changed in my life...I lost a lot of my comfort zones and direction in life. Things I thought were certain suddenly weren't.

I lost Inspiration

This year I will re-discover it.

Happy New Year!

The post holiday purge is under way! I haven't seen this much green in our shopping trolly in a long time.

Like many others this time of year I'm trying to start afresh with my eating habits, out with the junk in with freshness!

Hopefully this is the first trolly load of many!

This is just what is at the top of my agenda for the year 2007 - beside generally trying to be nice to other people (I have to try and remember to be nice - doesn't come naturally ;-) ) - that is what I eat. Thinking a lot about going on vegetarian food, or even living food...don't know - but at least hamburgers, soda, candy etc. will be out soon,... after all - I've managed 2004 to stop drinking, 2005 to stop feeling sorry for myself, 2006 to stop smooking, ...2007 - stop eating unhealthy?? - ...
Anyways - enough about me,

...the world has gone so small... dda1605 is right, it is funny how even hundreds of miles away from each other we have so many things in common in our trolley.

Today marks 18 months together for Ashley and I.

I got her some flowers as a small gesture of my love for her.

We met whilst travelling through Thailand in the summer of 2005 and ended up spending 3 months together before Ashley returned to Canada and I to the UK.

We kept in constant touch whilst Ashley applied and waited for a visa to move to the UK (something we talked about whilst travelling) and she finally arrived last March.

I've never met anyone quite like her.

she is my best friend.

Early this afternoon just as we were about to go out it started raining....torrentially. The guttering to our building broke and a flood of water hit our window.

As I looked at it I noticed the water had been leaking through the window and running down to the floor!!!

We rushed to grab towels to stem the flow and waited for the rain to stop.

As always our landlord was unreachable!

I think we may be moving in 2007.

Saw this on the way to work this morning and it made me chuckle.

Its a common sight on dirty cars and vans around the area and it got me thinking?

Does this happen around the world or is it a uniquely English practice?

If so, what is written?

So my Flickr friends I open this question to you.......

I like this.. .made me chuckle too.... by the way, WHAT in the world could someone do to Kraft Mac & Cheese to make it taste better -- it kinda is what it is.... macaroni with some orange salty dust that is REALLY nothing at all like cheese but somewhat addictive -- the milk and butter are the only things that vaguely resemble food stuff.... i used to eat this in college along with top ramen when we were totally broke -- would leave out the milk most times.... and have it with water

BellaGaia (Living with BellaGaia)
francophony 12 years ago
Yeah, I concur with LBT that this happens in France too, although up here I tend to see "Lavez-moi" (Wash me). Although in Le Havre, it rains so much that only TRULY filthy cars can get this treatment.
sotonrich 12 years ago
@ LBT....I think a big "Dirty" on the van might be more of an incentive to get down the car wash!

@ BellaGaia I don't think Ash adds anything....it's more to do with the way it's prepared.....more like a ritual!

@ Francophony....it's more like a badge of honor then!

Keep the answers coming folks!

January 10th 2007

Went into Southampton at lunch time with my friend James..we work together and he needed some new work shoes as his current ones were falling apart!

We headed for West Quay the biggest shopping centre in Southampton, while James went off to get shoes I thought I'd take some photos.

It wasn't that exciting in the mall until I looked down to a lower level and saw this Nintendo Wii demo stand....It's the current object of my desire and any chance of drooling over it is much welcomed!

I took a couple of photos looked up and noticed a West Quay staff member talking into her radio.

"yeah I'm with him now thanks....Excuse me sir, I'm going to have to ask you to stop taking photos in the centre."

"Oh I'm sorry I didn't realise taking photos here wasn't allowed?" I replied rather surprised.

"Not many do, but you cant.....Don't worry you can keep what you've taken."

"Thanks." (how kind of you!)

With that I moved along like the good little sheep I am.

The staff member was obviously being given directions to me by someone who was tracking me on CCTV.....for the first time I felt like I was being watched.

I didn't like it.

I had the same problem some months ago, in a mall too.
Taking pictures of a mirror. Security guy came and asked me if I had an authorization for that. Well, of course I didn't... played naive, like I didn't know it was forbidden...
So, here I walk away... 30m later, I turn around, and see 2 other security guys following me... to make sure I wouldn't take another shot I guess.

That day, I felt dangerous.

Re: fixing up the Mac & Cheese.
First of all, I like how you refer to it as the Kraft Dinner, , I don't know why...

anyway, when I fix it (and yes, it is "fixing", not merely preparing), while the macaroni is boiling, I chop up some garlic and steam some peas & carrots in the microwave. When the macaroni is done and draining off in the colander, I sauté the garlic with a bit of butter--in the same pot used to cook the macaroni (no need to dirty any more dishes than I have to!). This is also a good time to add any chopped up meat that you might want added to it. Personally, I love Spam (easy now!), but it's not necessary. After a minute or so, I turn off the heat, put the now drained macaroni back in the pot and toss it in the garlic butter. Next I add the prescribed portion of butter (minus what I used with the garlic), the orange powder, and the milk. Then I pour the steamed (and drained) peas & carrots on top to help melt the butter. Mix it all up, and voilà the macaroni & cheese is fixed. I rarely eat it plain anymore.

How does that sound, ?

At the start of the month I was given my holiday allocation for the year to come.....25 days of no work!!! (haha bad luck North Americans!).

We booked a few days off over the Easter period and set about looking at the Europe guide books we have. As I mentioned before Ashley and I met in Thailand whilst traveling...it's a passion of us both but neither of us have seen much of Europe....Ashley because she was in Canada and it's expensive and me because I'm still new to it all ( I only got a passport in 2003!).

So this year we plan to see a bit of Europe.

That all started tonight when we booked our flights to Amsterdam....I'm so excited I really can't explain it....I love reading guide books and even more so when I know I'm going!

We've already decided to catch a train to Brussels during the week away, but thats about it.

Let the fun begin!!!

I've got to make it up to Amsterdam. I live in Europe and I haven't seen much but I'll get there. Especially with all these low-cost airlines. I flew from Paris to Dublin on RyanAir for 6 euros one way.

I prefer trains though...

This is Southampton as seen from the Southampton central train station bridge....I often stop for a second to look at the view.....It's not very exciting but it's home.

I like the contrast between the parked cars on the left side of the bridge and the busy rush hour traffic on the right.

The local council want to install 4 lasers in the clock tower on the left which would be seen 15 miles away....Southampton has a huge maritime history (the Titanic left from Southampton) and the council want it to act a "lighthouse" for the city.

Of course some groups are against it.....but I hope it comes to pass.
