I'll be competing in the IronMan triathlon in Lake Placid, NY and need to lose about 70 lbs to compete comfortably. It will take about 3000 miles of biking, 850 miles of running and 80 miles of swimming along with a pretty agressive diet.

Come along for the ride and see me shrink!

@AliThinks: Low carb-in' it. The early days of this diet can show extraordinary losses as 3g of water bonds to each g of carbohydrate, so as you cut the carbs, you drop a bunch of water weight. It'll likely settle in to about .5/day shortly.

This is the one spot where I get a clear reminder of how close we live to the Limerick Power Plant. This was taken about 2 miles from my house...definitely within the 'Chernobyl' zone.

Seen during a bike ride. It was made very clear to me just how far I have to go before july. A 35 mile ride that should have been child's play kicked my ass.

@Samrag: Right out of College, circa 1990, I opened a pool hall (6 tables, food/non-alcoholic drinks, video games) in my small hometown of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. Unfortunatly, a combination of my mismanagement, economic factors and a little thing called Gulf War I lead to closing the place in 1993. But those were some fuuuuun times. :)

@Mbauhs: Cost me a pound, I can live with that. The libation of choice was bourbon and diet coke (0 carbs!), soy crisps and Buffalo Wings...all theoretically low carb...but anything in the kind of quantity I consumed was gonna hurt on the scale ;-)

Back to the grind today!

I'd welcome a trip to Chicago for my Birds, but I hope you don't mind if I root for Seattle since (assuming we win @ NO) the NFC championship would be here.

Yes, it's a 100" projection TV. I spent a few years post-poolhall selling high end home theaters, and YES, it's a Man-Thing. But then there's nothing like watching football life-size and movies theater size. Sadly, between workouts and general 'stuff' my kids end up spending more time watching Ice Age or Finding Nemo on that big screen.

5 pounds for the year -- I'd say that's a serious underestimation... (i am a serious coffee drinker -- maybe 5 pounds a month) you could always do a nice little demitasse cup each day -- it might last you that way -- be sure and keep the air out so they stay fresh.....

i hope she doesnt really think that - she is beautiful - i run into this business of not wanting their photo taken thing every day in my job - but strangers i guess are easier to work with than loved ones eh

mostly i ignore it and just stay busy telling them where to stand, making jokes like "these new digital camera dont hurt half as much as film" and just snapping while i joke - when im really desperate...

*gesturing to you to lean closer, *whispering
my secret trick is to say "im looking at you right now and the way the light is falling on your face is just gorgeous - let me take this one so i can show you - just one.."

*talking normal again
then take five or six and make sure for chris' sake you get a good one LOL
which is what u have done here - what did laura think of it ?

Ok, so I was gonna write some deep BS about artichokes as a metaphor for the layers we all have that peel away to finally reach the core of who we are, but in reality, I just think they're really cool looking veggies.
