Today it's time to do some house stuff. As my family is a large one, I'm doing laundry all day long. This is the 3th time I went to the roof to pic up dryed clothes and put there some more to dry.
Not very interesting, I know, but need to be done.

I will never forget the color blue of the sky in Portugal. My all too short visit there was a photographer's dream. Everything was *drenched* in light - the colors are spectacular and the shadows are deep and rich...

I totally agree Frere Jacques!

@Frère Jacques and Italian Papillon
That is so true, I love the colors of this portuguese sky but, unfortunatly I have a very white skin and I can't go as often as I would like to sunny spaces.

Not very intersting!!!! BULLS* - this is great shot - and this is what it is all about... you know - picturing our life... I don't think it is about showing off, "Hey see how great photographer I am"... it is more... "Hey see how interesting I can make my regular life by just taking pretty photos of it"

Anyways - that is what I am doing... he he

...bookmarked you - looking forward to seeing more of your not interesting photos.

Wednesday
This year I really love wednesdays cause I don't have any classes to teach, so I only have to go to work if we have meetings. That happens normally twice a month. I usually save a bit of the afternoon to go to the beautiful places around my city and charge batteries for the week.

Today was the first school day of this term and I didn't have to go all the way to Barreiro. So I went to Portinho da Arrábida beach, were I find inspiration all year long and took some nice photos. I walked for two hours along the beach, waited for the sunset to beggin, there's always great sunsets there and then came home and was blessed with three great smiley faces waiting for me.

I then went with my kids to eat a pizza (the kids are always asking for junk food and in my house they only get that sometimes), came home and played a bit.

I'm now ready to start another term in my school....

Today I started to do a diet. Not a crazy one, just need to eat a bit more green and healthy. I'm feeling fat so have to take a bit more care of what I eat: Low on carbohidrats, no sweets (but that's no problem to me), no fat (except olive oil to cook) for a month or so...

My lunch was broculli with tuna fish near to a Francisco's tile he made when he was three. For dinner I had grilled steack and green beans. Felt good!

Yes Sam, it is. But this year I have a crazy schedule in my school, start on the afternoon and go all through the night until midnight, I got the adult classes, so I don't have dinner most of the days and started to eat all sort of snacks, now I'm putting a stop to that.

Oh you make me feel bad. My dinner tonight was burgers and peas. Not exactly the healthiest choice.

And if you keep posting pictures that look that tasty, I may actually do something about that bad feeling.

I have been going a bit crazy on the sweets end of things too...they are so irresistable! Green sounds so good right now...and your plate looks healthy and delicious!

My father just lost a ton of weight and his advice is, don't worry too much about what you eat but about the quantities. This feels so right to me because I need to have some sort of chocolate thing everyday, just not 10 chocolate things everyday (or more....yikes!). But there are times when my body says stop!, please eat something good for me!

I was going to write what I had today for lunch and dinner, but that's ok, as Philippe Leroyer requested, enough of that.... :))

Today was one of those days that you don't know why, but seems you've missed it all. I only have to go to school at 20,00h, so, if I want, I can just be lazy all day until it's time to bring kids from school. The boys stay with me in the mornings and just go after lunch and only my little girl has to go to kindergarden..

Today, I woke up, dressed myself with yesterdays clothes, no bath, no combing my hair, just brushing my teeth and splashing a bit of water in my face to remove a bit the look of those death fish eyes I usually have in the morning. When to the cofee shop and had a "garoto" (little cup, tiny, tiny, of cofee with a bit of milk). Then took Carlota to the kindergarden. Came back. Zê was helping the kids with their homework so I came to the computer, sat and stood there all day, editing pictures I took in this last days, uploading them, running around the groups in flickr, checking mail and my friends blogs and, then again, editing pics, uploading....... All day long!

Then I went to pick up the kids and barely mannaged to get there on time. There was still one hour until I had to go to school. So, I played with Carlota for a bit, gave a snack to the kids and, while they were eating, came back to the computer to edit pics and upload.... again.

In my school, as this week's the first after the holydays and because my students are adults, most of them didn't came.
In the first class I had, only one girl came and she only had two doubts, so I've explained those things she didn't know and said that she could go for the weekend. Came to the computer in the school and went to flickr to respond and add photos to my groups. In my last class, I've spoked with a student one hour before and she said she wasn't going to attend my class because she was sleepy and wanted to go home earlyer. I've asked why wouldn't they all go earlier and they.... went, they've all missed my class so, I went to the computer again, to flickr again......

Just arrived home now, had a snack and here I am again on flickr, in my groups again, showing my pics again.....

What a waste of such a sunny day!

The pic I chose is of my little girl when I went to pick her up from kindergarden. Should be of my computer, I know but....

Such a cute kid, and love the colours in the picture. What software do you use to edit your photo - put your name on them etc.?

Don't feel guilty over spending the day on Flickr, we need these "do nothing" days. And never give students opportunity like you did - of course they will go lol

Sam (2007 in Iceland)
sarahwoo 11 years ago
These days happen to me too...this whole photo diary thing is not helping me get away from my computer...but I think sometimes you need days like that. (Although you are right, when it is sunny out it just feels wrong...) Right now, I should be doing something productive to help my little family function like the dishes but instead I am on flickr!

I teach adults too and they can be really difficult sometimes. Often in September I have a bunch of students and it will be interesting to see how many I have next week when the vacation is over...here in Paris it isn't sunny so it is hard to get people to come for an evening class after working all day when it is cold outside...

Carlota is adorable. She looks very intelligent.

Hello, hello, someone else who works nights in school. It's the first time I have night classes and it has been a bit hard because of my kids, I'm not used to leave them in the nights. Here to most of the students dropped classes already, but I have a class of the 12th year, the last one and those really want to finish this year.
About the sunny days, our days are mostly sunny, so if I'm going to waste one day, probably it will be sunny anyway...
Lucky me.

Just posting the picture, I'll write tomorrow about this running nose.

Running nose...

[Edit]
Well, I have planned to do this early in the day but couldn't, sundays are difficult for me to come to my computer because of the kids.
Yesterday, apart from taking the boys to the scouts, all I did was holding crying Carlota and cleaning her nose and vomit. She had a bit of a fever and was really down, so I didnt do anything else all day. Just stayed with her and tryed to make her feel better.

After she went to bed, some friends of mine phoned to ask if I would like to go out for a cup of coffee, and I'm a "garoto's" addict, so I went. The night was great, clear sky but a bit cold. We drove to a village near Setúbal called Montijo, we had our coffee, walked a bit seeing the stores there and then thought of going for an icecream. Not me, but one of our friends eats loads of sweet things. He had cake for dinner, just one hour before and was already thinking of the next sweet he would have. We then went to the beach of Rosário, near Moita, another small village. And the coffee shop was already closed. Came to Moita, had another garoto and he couldn't find an icecream. As his birthday was only two days before, we bought a small chocolate cake (just a peace for one) and lighted the candles already inside the car. He was still thinking about the icecream, so we drove south until Marateca. It was already after midnight and these villages are so small that nothing stays open after midnight, so we went there just for the walk.
Came back to Setúbal at two a.m., uploaded a few pictures and went to bad.

Carlota is feeling much better today, never had fever, played a bit all day, but was still very sleepy cause last night was a real rough night for her.

We stayed home all morning just doing nothing.... it was real nice and peaceful, just the five of us.
Went to have lunch with Zê's parents and his brother and sister with their families. The kids played ok with their cousins, and the time went by quickly....

When we where coming home, my boys asked if we could go for a car walk (what's the correct word in english for this? to go for a walk? don't know) so we drove to Azeitão, where my sister Rita lives. She wasn't home, so we had a coffee and a garoto for me and came back crossing Palmela's village. Palmela has a very nice castle that I'm in love with, so I guess I'll be showing it one of this days. The music in the car was of a Carlota Cd, all the kids were singing and it was a very nice ride.

Came home, put Carlota to sleep, then went to the roof to put some more cloths drying, it seems to me that I'm always there, so I took a nice shot of the clouds, they had this nice pink color and were really great.

Now, all of the kids are in bed, Zê is sleeping in front of the tv, pretending to be watching it and I came to my computer. After posting this, I'll be running around in flickr and in the blogs until my eyes heart. Then will knit a bit, a friend asked me to make a change in one of his trousers and I would like to have it ready in the next weekend.
And that's it for today.

The pic is of the beautiful sky I saw in my roof.

Ahh...I feel really stupid but before having my son I didn't realize how often kids were sick. Wow...it seems as soon as he gets over one cold another one has crept up on us. (I'm the one with the cold today.)

Do you feel like the rooftop is your little sanctuary or is it more a reminder of laundry? From your photos, it seems like a place to catch your breath and take a quick break from the chaos. Hanging up laundry can be very zen like...

P.S. As far as "car walk" - do you want to say "go for a drive"?

Earth history to 12th grade
Exam of fossils and earth history for the 12th grade
Hidrogeologie for the 12th grade
Cartography to the 12th grade
Nutrients in food to the 8th grade
Still haven't finished preparing the exam, so I'll have to get out of flickr right now!

Took Zê to work in Palmela, usually he goes by train but today we felt we needed a bit more together.
On my way back, stopped in Aires and took some numbers shots (collect them and I'm always seeing if they look nice), some reflections in an old washing tank (??), and a few more things.

Ended up shoting my boots cause they still have a bit of paint from the Science Classroom my friend R5 asked me to help him to paint. I just like the way they look. Why do I, a 42 years old, mother of 3 and teacher like to wear these kind of shoes is something that makes me wonder if I'm in perfectly brain health....

Today was one of those days..... I didn't want to have to get up, to talk to people or to see people, but as I have three little kids and they can't understand these things, I got up, dressed myself and played with them, gave them breakfast and then took Carlota to the kindergarden. She wasn't either in one of her days, she hold me tight and didn't want me to leave. After staying for a bit I had to go. She started to play with the other kids and with cars and didn't seem to mind when I said I was going away.

Went to the post office, where I should have gone ages ago. I had a book to go to a fellow bookcrosser and I should have send it the week before. Well, I found some people from my old school and had to talk to them, didn't want to but had to.

Came home. Started helping my boys with their homework and they weren't either in one of their best days. Just complained about homework and the time they had to spend on it and blablablabla.... just to cranky... all of us.

After they went to school, I had one extra hour before having to go myself and I couldn't stop thinking: Shit, I don't want to go, I'll stay home, go to bed and will phone them giving an excuse.... But then, in the last minute I thought: no, I cannot do that, I'll drive myself to school and will make the most of it, it can still be a good day. Had to go by the "autoroute" (don't know this in english) cause it was already to late to drive the usual small roads I normally take.

Glad I did it! I went to the gardens of the school with my 10th grade class, where we have a project for three years to grow vegetables and to plant some fruit trees. We are just starting, today was the day that we dig the holes for the trees, next week will be puting some manour on the ground and then wait two more weeks and start planting. They were great. Normally this class is a very noisy one and so difficult to handle, but since I started this project, they seem to have reborn, they are so sweet, working most of the time and asking properly when they want something. Really turned out to be a good day.

When I came home, I still had a bit of time to play with my kids before they went to bed. So, now I'm so happy and in peace with myself.

The picture is from the school garden and those are some of my students.

It's so good to get some dirt on your hands once in a while - especially from planting trees :D I think it would do anyone a world of good to help things grow.

Wednesday

My day off, again. No meetings today.
Just stayed home with my kids all morning. After they went to school I edited some pictures, answered a few mails and stood here in front of my computer. I'm always on a t-shirt and always have my windows open so I got so cold by the beggining of the afternoon that I had to go out.
I wasn't sure about the place I should go. Wanted to talk to my friends but they were all at work, so I had to go by myself. Was still deciding when I went to the car. Palmela castle or to the beach?? The day wasn't bright as usual, up north there was some rain, but here it was only gray, no rain.

Finally I decided to go to Albarquel, the first beach as you get out of town to the north. While I was there, looking to some very big faults in the rocks, and felling in love with them, my phone rang.

It was the man that is trying to sell my old house. When we moved to this one, we decided to rent the other but after two years that gave us so many financial problems that we decided the best was to sell it. Now the market is so slow, it seems that nobody wants to have a house. The man had a buyer who wants to see it, and my heart just jumped out: that would be the better gift for the hole year, selling that house.

So, there I was, in one of my favourite places, happy as a kid and already making plans for the days to come...

Took loads of pictures, sat down on the sand and studied a bit, not much because my mind was always going to somewhere else, and then came back to town.

Crossed it to the other side, and went south straight to Cachofarra. There's nothing to see in Cachofarra really. It's a place filled with factorys and a big place where they make these big boats. But there is a variety of wild birds that come to the sides of the river. I really don't know how to say this in english. Sometimes rivers have little smaller "arms" with not so salty water where the wildlife is different. The smaller beaches along these parts of the river are amazing, always empty, no one except some fishermen go there and I go there often just to stay, sit and look around me. Makes me happy and calm.

Again, took loads of pictures. Some birds I don't know what they are. Have to look that up. The sky was awesome, made some good sunset shots as well.

Then started to get home. My car battery was giving sign, the light was on, and I thought, what the hell am I going to do about it? So, I phoned the mechanic and asked about it. He told me it could be the battery or that other thing that makes the battery get charged (alternador in portuguese). But my car didn't care about what he said or what I had to do and, in the middle of the city, in a very small road, he just stopped working. First the radio, then the light, then he made a sound and puffff, off it went.

So that has to be the photo of this day. I stood there for almost two hours before the mechanic came.

waiting to be rescued when your car breaks down has got to be one of the longest waits in the world. i sympathise. i hope having your camera made the 2 hours pass a bit easier!

"a very small road" é o que tu lhe chamas...
Nunca diria isto da "very small road" em causa!
A não ser que estivesse a comparar com uma das grandes avenidas das grandes cidades ;-)

One of the good things in Paris is that people like me do not have a car ( metro or public transport are sufficient...), so no car or mechanical problems.......however we do not get to see the sea and ocean that often!!!! ;-)

Hi Loca -- i think the jan 5 shot is my favorite so far this year. hard not to love pix of beautiful adorable kids!

The shoe pix -- my pix yesterday was a shoe pix -- i think mine are the antithesis of yours.. not useful, warm, sturdy or "down to earth decent hard working shoes" like Heida describes yours. I feel terrible that you say you have no fancy shoes -- If my feet weren't too big -- and i'm sure they are -- i'd send you some pretty ones over -- no joke! i think every girl should have a pair (or more) of shoes that make her feel like a princess and make her walk just a little taller and elegantly

Is this something broken?

(Sorry about yesterday too but it definitely provided a great story. And you did get to go the ocean and revialize your juices a bit...and I think it is "alternator" in English. It must be, so similar...)

Hang in there...

"Why a blue fish!? Because it flyes... it fell on the deathly fabule of the scepticles of love. It fell asleep smiling."

Hard trying to translate the words of this drawing on my friend's R5 wall. It's great that room of his. I've been there yesterday (I'm posting on the 13th) after trying to solve the problems I'm having. This friend of mine is one of the few I can always count with. Gave me a bit of peace and I thank him for that.

Another hard day... not talking about it yet, have to solve this shit first. Again, on the end of the day, my friend R5 and Valta came to take me out. We went for a late garoto and coffee, to Azeitão. Then we were just wondering about, in the docks, taking pictures and talking, saying nothing really, just nonsence and it felt so good!

I love this last photo too...I can just imagine you on your walk after (or before) your garato and coffee...just wandering about. I love moments like that, when you can forget about all the crap for awhile.

Hang in there...things will swing back up again.

Solving that problem is taking all my time for the past few days. My kids are staying with their grannies or his father for most of the day. When it was starting the sunset I came home, because I couldn't do anything else until tomorrow. So I went for a bit to the docks, where the sea always makes me think better. I think tomorrow everything will be alright again, I'm hoping for it to be true.

This photo is really representative of your melancholic and reflective feelings...nice work. I have always like the saying that, " everyday is a chance to start again." I remind myself of this a lot... :)

I'm to sleepy today, think I'll post this and go to bed. My day was a bit nicer, could get some things done, still have a lot to do in the days to come, but it's getting on it's wheels again, I hope.

Apart from a few phone calls I'll have to do tomorrow, my day is expected to be an average one and I need that for a change, too many days different from usual and that's killing me. Today I felt I needed to spend time with my kids and I just had a bit in the morning to play with them, doesn't feel wright.

Well, when I was going to pick up Carlota from the playschool, as usual I was looking up to the roofs and the sky, and thinking: what a beautiful and orange sky for today. Then I noticed that it was full of seagulls, they were all over, flying, on roofs.... so, that's my picture for today, a seagull on a roof with a beautiful orange sky.

Have to start drawing again....
