I had planned to go to the swimming pool today since I had the week off due to vacances scolaire but had to change my plans to go and get a bikini wax instead because I can't do it myself anymore! The belly has taken over! I can still see my feet, just barely... So, appointment is set for later tonight. A package has arrived today and it's the yarn I bought from Yahaira . Besides, it's gloomy and over cast in Paris today, I think staying in and knitting sounds marvelous.

Feeling a bit sick today. I had to go and take a glucose test to make sure I don't have gestational diabetes, They make you drink this nasty sweet concoction on an empty stomach and then make you sit for an hour before they test you. The word "inmonde" came out of my mouth before I could stop myself and the waiting room erupted with laughter. Except for another pregnant woman who looked at me in horror. She was there to take the same test.

On my way home, my husband sent me this MMS to cheer me up. My stomach is upset now, so I'm off to lay down and hope the baby calms down. About 20 minutes after I gulped down the overly sweet drink, he started his own little techno party in my belly.

So, you'll probably see photos of my friends peppered through our my diary. I've decided this year to try to spend more time with my friends and to be more present. I felt last year I was out of it and too much of a hermit.

So, meet Stefanie. She knits. Check out that sweater she's wearing! She's southern and sassy. You can see the sassy in this photo I took of her today at the cafe. I really dig her.

It's so good to sit and talk with someone you get along with so well. We caught up on each other's news. We talked about being in Paris and what it was like over our recent travels to the US and how "on est vraiment bien a Paris". New jobs, new babes, new everything...

Side note: got my results back from the test but I can't read them because I'm not a doctor. It's my job to take the results to my doctor for him to interpret. Ah, La France... my next prenatal appointment is in two weeks.

Ooh congrats on the baby. I love your pictures, I feel like such a voyeur peeking into others everyday lives, and learning little bits about perfect strangers you feel you know.

I've never been able to be very open about my life and one of the challenges for me this year with the diary is to try and share not just my photos, but my life with others, and hopefully gain some new friends. I have to say you're definitely one of those glowing pregnant mothers.

I mostly just felt like I spent a lot of time sweating when I was pregnant. And yeah, that glucose test was vile.

Android- there's that voyeurist side of blogging and flickr that I think all people who blog and shoot pictures enjoy. It took me a while to build up the courage to express myself openly on my blog but it's really changed my life. Given me confidence. I've made some friends through blogging that have made a difference in my life. I hope your journey through the 2007 diary and blogging is a fruitful one.

I sweat a lot. I feel like the heater is always up too high. My poor husband is bundled up in our apt because it's so cold for him.

And Maia, I take the elevator and escalator all the time now because I am nearly to the point where I can't see my feet anymore. But it's sooo worth it in the end. It only last for a few month the part where you can see your feet. :)

@PutYourFlareOn & Android9: I truly believe that sharing like this either via blogg or discussion groups like this can be good for you. I've meet many of my best friends like this (including my girlfriend)!

A lot of people talk about how people can lie and pretend to be someone else online - that being too open is therefore dangerous etc etc - but I think (and please tell me if you disagree) for those of us doing a lot of this we can see through fakes a mile away!!!!

Furthermore I know of people that have been able to work through very difficult times because of their online friends, and their ability to share online!

Got on the train this morning to head to my yoga class. Took out my camera to take a morning shot of myself and noticed I hadn't put the memory card back in my camera! I knew this should have been a sign of other weird things to come today. I plugged in my ipod and listened to Suzanne Vega, happily day dreaming about the little guy in my tummy. Look up and noticed that I missed my stop. Rushed off the train and took a second to catch my breath. Ended up walking back to Republique to the yoga studio arriving late to my class. After class, I ran an errand to rue de Sentier and walked down the Rue du Louvre towards Chatelet-Les-Halles. All the while thinking, I wish I had my memory card. Paused in front of a shop thinking about just buying another one so I could take pictures of this day. But kept trekking on instead. Caught the metro 14 or Météor as my husband calls it to head home. And what do I do? Get on the wrong train and ride it up to St. Lazare. Didn't even realize I was on the wrong train until the I see EVERYONE getting off at St. Lazare. I live at Place D'Italie.

So, finally nearly 3 hours after my yoga class ended I'm finally home. Exhausted. Hungry. and bewildered. Pregnancy makes you forget!

that story reminds me of the day i destroyed the rebel camera at work - it was hallowe'en and i was writing late into the night - when finally i made my way home at 2 a..m. i found a big pile of burning tires in the street and thought it would make a great cover photo for the paper ... if i was ready when the fire fighters showed up - so i ran back the block to work, grabbed my camera, ran back to the fire and called 911 to summon the FFs. then i went to take a practice shot and discovered the batteries were dead - ran back to work grabbed spares, ran back and then realized there was no card in the camera (it was 2 am!!) so i ran back to wrk grabbed the card, and stuffed it in.
(BACKWARDS)...
i got no photos of the fire and after that it was back to the 3 MP fuji fine pix for me :(

Well, my lesson learned it to carry a spare in my bag. And now there's one there just in case. :)

Johnathan, that's a crazy story! I have once started to put the card in backwards and caught myself! Yikes!

ParaScubaSailor, I don't know how many time I've done that this pregnancy. I have a tendancy to forget my cell phone or my metro pass. Cell phone is not so bad but Metro pass I can't get around without it. But I take the elevator. just to be safe. :)

Phillipe, at least it was only St Lazare, not shady at all. I did get lost earlier in this pregnancy near Barbés at the end of last year. That was a little scary.

Android, nice hear that I'm not alone in this scatter-brain moment I've living. It's so surreal. :)

Happy journaling, everyone!!

January 6, 2007

I've been having a rather rough week. Emotionally speaking that is. I've been thinking about my mom a lot lately. Missing her terribly. I lost her a year ago last November. Last year was a complete blur. I only started to see clear near the end and with the beginning of this new year, I beieve I finally see where I want to go.

I've scanned a photo for today's entry. This is the photo that is on my bed stand. I look at it every night before I got to bed and it's almost the first thing I see when I wake up.

Every night before bed, my husband and I have our nightly ritual to tell each other that we love each other. I often lay carressing my husband's hands and I fall asleep. Growing up, my mother's hands were my "dou-dou" as the French call it. Her hands were my security blanket. My teddy bear. I always remember holding hands with my mom. Even as an adult. It was just something we always did. They smelled of sweet cherries and were as soft as silk. In all the photos I have of my mother, I always look at her hands. They were always a safe place for me. After grueling tennis matches in high school, my mother would rub my shoulders. Hugs always included my mother cupping her hands on my face. And excitement always meant an enthusiastic clap of joy from her. These little things I miss so much.

I reach down and cup my hands around my growing belly and know that my hands will be as equalling important to our little guy. I often wonder what memories a baby carries with them when they start their life, I truely believe the deep feeling I have towards my mother's hands stems from the very beginning of my life. This memory is an intrinsic mark I will carry with me forever.

A new workspace for me. We've been moving the rooms around to prepare for the baby. It's taken some creative thinking to make everything work but it seems like it's all working out just fine. If you catch me commenting on your photos the same time you're online, this is where I am commenting from.

'Stee - That's just what I did today! I love it. This might get me in trouble though... we'll see. :)

Allan - if I could take my computer to the bathroom, I think I would. My husband has a mac lap top and does it all the time. He's going to kill me for saying that!

Alison - I think it's ok to talk about these kinds of things here, I mean it's not like we said we fart in public. And even if we did, that would be okay, right?

Android - Thank you for your sweet comment. I think memories are integrated into the fabric of who we are. It's amazing the things I remember, that just come to me when I least expect it. I try to write those down when they come.

Oh my god Sam...have you told anyone else?? I mean there's LOADS of people out there who actually think I'm COOL and HIP and non-internet-addicted and can reel in a man without the aid of the WWW... ;D

Maybe it's a good think my laptop's battery has gone the way of the Dodo bird...
