So who is up for a meet-up next weekend? I don't have time nor money to go far, but I would like to explore more in Norristown, especially the State Hospital, and Bridgeport. Since Norristown is definately not a solo kind of place, anyone else in?

I'm planning on Longwood Gardens the following weekend (before the Christmas stuff hits) in case anyone else wants to plan.

I'm working next weekend, but I'm game for Longwood.
I'll be in town the 12-14 if anything is going on, I'd love to join you.

State Hospital?

Norristown State Mental Hospital. It's still in use, which is why I would not go alone, but there are a lot of buildings in back that are abandoned, and we can go through the farm park to get to them.

I'm thinking noon on Saturday; meet at the Norristown Farm Park parking lot on North Wales Road, opposite Norristown High School.

If we still have daylight afterwards, there is a cemetery in Norristown I want to get to that has a lot of Civil War graves, and the crumbly parts of downtown Norristown and Bridgeport.

Or is it Whitehall Rd?

My bad, it is Whitehall Road.
You joining us, Alan?

Hmm, the people I'm currently house-sitting for are returning to PA this Saturday. Hopefully not too late so I can leave the dogs at the house to hang out...

How does Sunday look for everyone instead? I'd hate to miss this because a few dogs have to be kept pampered all day until their masters return. :p

The Day is now up for vote (and you thought that you were done with that for the year!).

12:00 on Saturday or 12:30 on Sunday

I have a PT job in the morning, so cannot make it earlier.

12:00 on Saturday is good for me. Have to work on sundays. Urg!
harmonious sink [deleted] 12 years ago
Argh! Why do you people have to work?! hehe

Sunday it is then. For three of us so far, that is..

I don't even know where Norristown is from here, exactly.. Oh well, I'll figure it out..

Sunday it is, around 12:30.

Ursula, your best bet is probably to take the Turnpike to mid-county, and from there it's about 4 miles down Germantown Pike, then left onto Whitehall Road.

Anyone else can PM me if they need a number for directions.

There's some chance that I can make it.

Maria, you're planning to meet at the parking lot that's next to Whitehall Road at Eagle Drive across from the high school?

Here's a Google map of the area:

We'll try again for next Sunday?

No, tomorrow doesn't look good.

rainy glow

(Let's move it back to this afternoon instead. {Unfortunately, my time machine operates on a battery that hasn't been invented yet.} [Compatible with the battery for a Nikon E2750s.])

But next Sunday might work for me.

@ Ed: you went to Jim Thorpe? So jealous. Going back on a warm day in December.

See you all there next Sunday, 12:30 sharp, like Alan said, across the street from the high school. I did a scouting trip to find out the exact street to turn down for the cemetery. We need more daylight right now!

Tomorrow will be devoted to long-neglected tasks like laundry, housecleaning, and scanning pictures of my father's and my great grandfather's. However, make sure you check out "The Gross Clinic" before it is gone (see today's Inquirer)

The grey weather made this an excellent day to stay in and sleep past noon.

Not I. I went to the Art Museum. I decided to sign up for an individual membership. Its $60 a year, as opposed to paying $20 each time. I'll probably go there plenty of times over the boring winter weekends to more than make it worth the investment. But next time I'm bringing the mp3 player, people don't know how to be quiet inside a freakin museum. Ugh.

So if anybody ever goes to the museum, lemme know and I'll tag along. Oh and parking is still very much free along water works drive.

Oh ya I forgot to mention. They have a wonderful exhibit on mid-century portrait photographers. Its amazing what those guys were able to do with just some natural light and very early model cameras.

Just wrapped up an 11 hour day at the office and just now managed to "really" look at Flickr for the first time in a couple of weeks.

I'm totally up to going to the art museum, probably in a couple of weeks.
harmonious sink [deleted] 12 years ago
Hey Stan. Was wondering where ya'd been. Well, I don't really have the cash for the art museum. I need to focus on what I'm shooting for my final portfolio for class, anyway. Hmm, I need to find a moderately-muscled male figure for that..

And natural light is the best.

Hey Ursula -- Sundays at the Art Museum are pay as you wish, so you have no excuse... :)
harmonious sink [deleted] 12 years ago
Is the Art Museum abandoned and rotting in the woods somewhere? Then I'll go!

So did the Norristown thing ever happen, afterall??

I thought we were doing norristown this weekend as last weekend was rained out.... sunday same bat time... Maria?
harmonious sink [deleted] 12 years ago
Oh yeah, the rain. Man, I have no memory. Wish I could make both meet-ups this Saturday and Sunday, but sounds like I might just be doing Lambertville on Saturday. Anyway, there are two threads, one for Saturday Lamberfville, one for Sunday Norristown.. so let's try to keep posting in those two to lower the confusion here! hehe
