With the leaves turning, time to have a fall meet-up in Valley Forge. The leaves seem to be turning, mostly the yellow ones, but no spectacular color yet, and still a lot of green. Hopefully with the cool nights we will see better color in the next week.

I don't have any definate plans so Saturday or Sunday is fine. Saturday we would meet around 4:00, or Sunday around 3:00, due to the start of daylight savings time.

Meeting place will be the arcade beside the chapel, and then on over by the arch for sunset.

We can follow up with dinner at Kildare's or the new Iron Hill Brewery in Phoenixville.

Please respond if you are interested and which day is better.

Hope to see you there!

Wow, having lived near the coast for so long, I havent experienced a real "fall" in forever. I already thing the colors are pretty brilliant, and you're telling me its gonna get better? Sweet!

Anyway, I think sunday will probably be better for me, I really wanna try to get to ricketts glenn next weekend.
cdevroe 12 years ago
Being a little further north (only about 2 hours or so) we are already without leaves on our trees. The turn is already over!
Ed Roper 12 years ago
Ok then!

Lets go to the coast ya'll. The tourists are gone by now but it always looks good no matter what time of year. And you can probably still catch some interesting birds in their migratory patterns...

@ cdevroe - The leaves are past their peak in Newtown PA (1 hour East) and much has already fallen.

I drove up to Bushkill and back over the weekend. Bushkill's past their peak already, but the colours around the Wind Gap area were at full swing.

Yeah, thanks Maria. Sunday would work best (if I'm not too washed out from the Halloween party the night before I'll be attending up by Allentown) Good thing you choose 3 and not 9 in the morning. ;)

Sunday would work out for me.

Great. Seems like we might be meeting with some members here for the first time. =D

Can't you just reverse Sunday and Saturday this week, Stan?

Normally yes, but this Sunday is a birthday party for my niece and nephew.

OK, looks like Sunday is a go! 3:00 by the chapel. We can also hit the cemetery (bet you didn't know there is one behind the chapel), the abandoned train station, the arch, say Hi to Mad Anthony Wayne and other assorted fun.

Give a holler if you need directions (the chapel is on Rt. 23) or will be coming later and need a mobile number.

We'll miss you, Stan!

The Birthday party is outside of Princeton and wraps at 5:30. Where are you guys meeting up for dinner?? Maybe I can swing by if its late enough.
harmonious sink [deleted] Posted 12 years ago. Edited by harmonious sink (member) 12 years ago
Directions please! Or just a street address so I can Mapquest it.

Mmm, cemetery.. Maybe I'll pop in another roll of infrared to get some ghostly pictures of tombstones rising out of white glowy grass. What is the cemetery like, anyway? I'm assuming the tombstones are in a grassy area like most?

Abandoned train station? Great! Thanks so much for putting this together. It's about time I found another new decaying abandonment!

Damn, it's going to be pretty dark by 5:30.. but would be cool if you can meet us for dinner, Stan. Just keep us posted via Maria's cellphone.

Unless I am going to be getting totally lost (which is always an entertaining possibility), I'm assuming it's the Washington Memorial Chapel. That link goes to a Google Map for it.

Of course, if this is wrong, then it's at least where I'll be on Sunday, so if anyone wants to take pictures of someone wandering about aimlessly, I'll be available for photos around 3 PM.

The chapel is on Route 23. For most people, take 202, PA Turnpike or the Schuylkill to 422 West. Get off at the Valley Forge/Route 23 Exit. Do not go directly into the park by the visitors center, but follow Route 23, which will be a right coming off 422, and you will find the chapel on the right. There are not a lot of structures in the park, so it's pretty easy to find. There is a nice arcade on the far side of the chapel with lots of arches and great architectural details, so we will meet there.

Ursula, you will probably be taking 422 Eastbound. Take the first Valley Forge exit.

I haven't been in the cemetery in ages, but the chapel is an active Episcopal congregation, so the cemetery is still in use.

And since we are so close to Halloween, I think I know which one of the huts is the haunted one!

The forecast for Sunday is cold and windy, so dress accordingly.

Looks like we'll have a nice turnout and we'll all get to meet new Flickrites.
Ed Roper 12 years ago
Am I the only one who thinks "Flickrites" sounds like it could possibly be some sort of skin condition or something. Hm.

Anyway, I'll either see you guys there, or I'll be on a beach somewhere in Delaware. I've been feeling a little ocean homesick lately, and I just need a beach fix.
harmonious sink [deleted] 12 years ago
Ha, must just be you, Ed. Well, hope to see you there! If not, enjoy the beach, but I'm just not impressed with the beaches of the northeast anymore, since having lived 6 months a ten-minute walk from the Monterey Bay in Santa Cruz. High rocky cliffs, lined with these trees I wish I could recall the name of.. I need another trip back.. :(
Ed Roper 12 years ago
hah, I kinda agree with you on the northeast. The southeast is where its at. Heaven does exist on earth, and its called the Cape Hatteras National Seashore :)
harmonious sink [deleted] 12 years ago
Just googled the place. Still not as impressive. ;) Okay, what's really impressive is the coastlines around the Pacific Nothwest. I've only seen pictures, but really need to get out there one of these days.. Rainforests, waterfalls, then the high rocky cliffs...

Some of the beaches in Hawaii aren't bad. Just got back from Kona and miss it already. 10 days of 86 and sunny were sooooo hard to take. Tough working conditions!

This shot's from last year, but we were set up in the same spot this year.

I plan to be there on Sunday, BTW.

Beaches in Hawaii are not bad? Maui had the most amazing beach I have ever been on...sand was soft and silky and the water is crystal clear! And lovely sea turtles! Can't even think about going to a Jersey beach anymore.

We'll discuss on Sunday....40 degrees and very windy!
leesure PRO 12 years ago
Oddly enough, Unlike Maui, most of the beaches on Kona were eitehr VERY rocky (lava actually) or very hard to get to (1-2 mile hikes). Once you get to the inaccessible ones, they are spectacular.
harmonious sink [deleted] 12 years ago
Sounds lovely. Haven't been to any tropical areas yet, considering all the travelling I've done. Well, if you count the northern area of The Gulf of California..

40 dregrees and wind - sounds like I'll be wearing my thermal gear underneath! Thanks for the weather report. ;)

Maria, so were are you guys eating, Kildare's or the new Iron Hill Brewery in Phoenixville?
harmonious sink [deleted] 12 years ago
IRON HILL BREWERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't mind me. I'm as bad as Homer Simpson when it comes to beer. Well, okay, not that bad.

bashful rings [deleted] 12 years ago
I guess we can decide on where to eat when the time comes. I have the phone # for reservations/call ahead at Iron Hill after my last attempt to get a table at 7:00 on a Saturday
Ed Roper 12 years ago
OOUUUUUCH! Hope you guys had fun today. I spent my day waiting on an ER doctor to give me some muscle relaxors.

You see, while I was out on Saturday running around taking pictures, I somehow tweaked my back. Have no idea when or where, but it started hurting last night and pretty much kept me from sleeping. Ugh. I'm getting old ya'll.

Anyway, it was nice today, so I expect to see some good shots from you all tonight :)

Philly Stan PRO 12 years ago
Hang in there Ed, it couild b much worse...ask Ursula!

I also missed the shoot to attend a birthday party for my 7 year old neice and nephew...Hmmm ER might have been less painful!

I just hung up with Maria, and they were settleing in at the Iron Hill, it didn't sound like the "after party" was going to go long after 6:30 so I didn't drive out for the also...

We should plan the next meet up!
wkmpellucid PRO 12 years ago
Well, I missed another meet-up. I'll be away until the end of November.
Hope there will be plans for December.

Yes, there will most definitely be plans.

Holiday lights will be up, and we'll be out taking pictures of them.

Longwood Gardens has a Chrysanthemum Festival starting soon and there is always New Hope, Lambertville and Lahaska PA.

Also Roadtrips through Covered Bridges in Chester or Bucks counties is even a possibility.

Stay tuned.

We missed you, Ed. Sorry to hear that you were sitting in an ER. Hope you are feeling better.

Stan, definately next time.

Although Daylight Savings Time did not work in our favor, it seemed like everyone had a good time. It's always nice to see new perspectives on places I've been to a lot. It was great meeting Lee and Pat too.

Would love to get out to Longwood Gardens before the Christmas madness hits. Their display is fabulous, but that's all I've seen in the last couple of years. I'm thinking the weekend before Thanksgiving.

December will probably be New Hope and Peddler's Village. We'll have to see what kind of crazy lights they put up on City Hall again this year, so that's also a possibility. I'm thinking we should save the indoor spots, like Q-mart and Zern's, until January.
Any plans for Vets Day Weekend? It looks like a real possibility that I might be in town then.
harmonious sink [deleted] 12 years ago
Which weekend is that?
shutteratthethought 12 years ago
Hey everyone JUST missed finding out about this months event..but thanks to Lee..I'm in for the next one.
Ursula: November 11th is Veteran's Day and it falls on a Saturday- any plans for either Friday, Saturday or Sunday? Let me know- I'm gonna try my hardest to get there.
