Hmmm, need help :(

So I line up my melon/oval a 1/4" down from the curve of my "pretty" piece... but my tail is too long :( I continued on anyway, then went to square up my block and it was not happening :( I used a 1/4" seam allowance and re-measure my pieces... all are correct.

Any advice or tips would be oh so greatly appreciated :)

Thanks in advance for your brilliance,
Tangii

Did you not have enough fabric for squaring up your block to a 5" x 7" rectangle?

Jenny, the block was bigger than 5x7, but the points on my oval didn't line up on the 7" mark (like my oval was sewn down too small?). Did it matter that after sewing the oval to my "pretty piece" the pretty piece had a tail longer than the 1/4"?

I just sewed another and had the exact same problem. After sewing all 3 pieces together, I line up my ruler on the oval points and it only goes to 6 1/2". I took a picture, can I attach it in here or do I post it on the normal place?

My blocks won't line up to the 7inch and 5inch either, more like 6.5 inches, even after the great advice received on the previous post. This is such a great project but I'm in danger of giving up on it:(

Hi Ladies...sorry once again, I haven't replied right away. Tangii. It doesn't matter that your tail is longer than a 1/4 inch, because you are squaring your block up and cutting that off. As far as your blocks not sitting at the 7" mark, that's ok. Just center the oval between the reference marks showed on the tutorial and square it up to a 5 x 7. Most likely all your seams will be close to the same and all your blocks will come out close to the same. We all have inconsistencies when sewing a quarter inch seam. I would keep going and square up your blocks anyway to a 5 x 7. It's still going to look great!

My ovals don't touch the 7" mark either they are smaller.

janeford2...I'm sorry you aren't happy with your blocks. I would take the suggestions I gave Tangii too. You would be surprised how after you sew your blocks together how much better they look.

Let me know how it go's....

Thanks Jenny and Crains Addiction for your help and advice. I have now made 3 blocks that I am happy with. I stopped stressing and started to relax and they came together much better, oh and I cheated and used pins!!
Thank you, I am really enjoying these blocks now :-)

I just did up a post on some options for those having problems squaring up their blocks.
