Paint colour

La dolce vita 527 8:04am, 22 June 2013
Recently on here, someone was talking about getting Dulux to replicate the railings colour that Abigail uses a lot. Has anybody done this? What do I need to ask for? I have a couple of days up my sleeve this week and would like it to be my project

Hi dolce
With the dulux matching service you'll need to Supply a swatch of the colour for them to scan in. The closet match i have had was by using the actual lid of the paint pot but I've found they never really come close to the actual pigments and depth of farrow and ball, if your looking to save money use the delux service for undercoat and then use f&b for the top coat..hope this helps.

Thanks, I have used a porters colour in another room but it's too blue for me. I was wanting something in a darker grey/blackish colour but still with that chalkiness to it.

You might try Dulux NightJewels 2 - I have NightJewels 1 in my bedroom which is a very dark slate grey (almost black) and Nightjewels 3 in my dining room which is a blue grey - both are lovely. You'll see both on my pics if that helps! The colours are lovely and rich and have a lot of depth and for a mid-range paint, I'd highly recommend Dulux.

Wonderful! Love both colours. I have to say, I have some serious envy going on of your home. You've done a beautiful job. My next conundrum is what do I do with the air conditioner on the wall? Have you painted yours out?

Couldn't agree more with the paint matching although it might look similar at first you just don't get that quality of pigment so I would undercoat in a cheaper brand and top coat in the good stuff. You can paint the air conditioner out I've down it before and it goes away.

Hi everyone, thanks for your comments. As I live in the country the good brands aren't readily available to me, maybe I should do the chalkboard paint? Let me know your thoughts. I have one day left to myself before my partner and kids arrive home and an itchy painting hand at the ready

Agreed, I love chalk board paint too... If you like, take a look at one of my pics, I just painted the toilet in dark blue chalk board. Excuse the bad picture, but I hope you get an idea. We love it here and I will be doing the bathroom in the very same stuff as soon as I have the chance! It is velvety and very easy to clean.. Good luck and enjoy!

whilst I love my Railings bedroom walls they seem to show every handprint and sometimes there seems to be big greasy marks. it could be my handcream or moisturiser but it does seem a bit excessive. Does anyone else experience this?

A million thank yous guys, you've all just given me the green light. Never mind the kids and hubby home, I'm onto it anyway. Will let you know my thoughts. Dark blue chalk paint! Who'd a thunk!

Right, Ive finally got up to the city, country bumpkin that I am and have bought porters lead 200% in distemper - oooohhh, yummo. I'm nervous but am going to push through and just do it. Here I go. Also bought a soft gorgeous gold satin while I was there at porters (it's so inspiring in that paint shop) and I'm going to paint my 1950s kitchenette. Groovy, I think (i hope!) In the meantime, two orphaned lambs bleating at the front door for milk so that needs to be done first

ohhh I just got a sample pots of porters "Lead" and "blue cement" today and just finished painting. I'm staring at them on my wall now and wondering which is the right colour. Let me know how you go with the distemper finish La Dolce Vita and the colour. My partner is colour blind (red/green and some purple tones all look very different to his eyes) so not only do I have to like it, but he also has to think it's nice!

Right. I've just gone to the dark side, nervously I might add but honestly...I've never been happier! I love it! The distemper is dreamy. I went for lead 200% and it's a gorgeous inky black. Wish I'd done it in the first place instead of fluffing around with nova scotia from porters. The room has become so moody. Abigail is right, I don't want to leave. On top of this, my girlfriend has just sold me her worn leather couch for $150 which will be perfect. Oh happy days!!!!

So happy you love it, so how much cooler converting to the dark side is! xx

Thanks for the info! This is my first time going dark too! Very excited to paint the whole bedroom out, hopefully this weekend. We have decided on "Lead" full strength (not sure what percentage that is, but probably the same as yours. I'm matching it with a mushroom throw and a chartreuse velvet cushion - and lots more yet to be purchased. Can't wait to look at the distemper finish!

Sounds amazing!

If you go in and ask for lead they will give you a 100% tin, you will need to ask for 200%. The only reasOn I did it was because they only had sample sheets of 75% and 300%, one was too light the other too dark. Couldn't be happier. Am now looking for a print like the one that they have in the apartment on friends. Anybody know where I can get one?
