Hey guys,

I was just wondering how a person (like myself) can become an Iron Builder?

Just wondering.

For starters IB has changed greatly even just over the last year. So even the clearest and most accurate of answers may quickly become obsolete. Basically there are 2 steps.

1. Build a ton, and with high quality. Even higher than you see in the IB rounds. Remember that those builds are rushed, so it's more likely that people will be chosen who can out preform IB entries without the quick deadline. Enter tons of contests, and do well in those.

2. Get picked by Guy or Nannan. You could ask, but I doubt hounding will produce any fruit, and they are quite observant. Just note that they really want to produce a good show and battle, so one would want to a contestant that people would really want to see in the ring :)

Honestly I wouldn't drive ones lego life with an IB specific goal in mind :)

Hope that helps!

To add to this.

As for myself, I was grateful to finally get knocked off my I.B. pedestal. It was something to aspire to, but like many looks rosier in the other guys yard, once you're there. it's not quite what you might have expected....BUT, you do get freebies, everyone likes freebies : D

Just to add to the other guys - IB as it is now is a completely new beast.
Even a year or two ago I think builders averaged MAYBE 5 builds in a round?
The last couple hovered in the high teens, and this round I think we will easily beat the 20 mark for each building team.

So it's a combination of super speed and quality. You need both.

And as Karf said, it's definitely super fun leading up to it, and after it, but during the actual month, it's really no fun at all. It's a brutal competition, and I for one am happy to watch from the sidelines... hehe. I'm glad I did it, but I don't think I'll want to do it again ;)

Basically, you have to pay big bucks to Guy and promise to be his slave in the afterlife.
Ahhhh man!

Pascal, that was supposed to be a SECRET!

By the way, you forgot to do my laundry last week.....

V&A Steamworks:

You know what we also forgot?

to take a group Iron Builder picture >.<
I'm not sure when the next time we'd have that many Iron builders all in one place...

I'm not sure sane people 'choose' to take on an Iron builder, seems to me that you are likely to end up in an early grave going up against such great builders!!

True, but I'd love to try it some time! :D

I want to add little something :)

I consider myself a good builder, I like to be part of everything, and to be everywhere and be a pea in every soup (sounds better on my language:)

Expt IB :) I feel so humbled watching this best of the best builders produce ton of perfect mocs in such a small amount of time, and EVERY time wind up thinking "if I could make just one moc like that, I would be satisfied"

So, I'm thinking, maybe I could lobby / pay/ intimidate / pray / beg / manipulate / use magic powers / disguise / hijack / ask politely (huh;) my way inside the IB, but... then what?

So, for the first time, I'm thinking that I need to develop so much more creativity, imagination and skill, and even then I would be hesitate to join - I respect and admire all the people who were inside IB arena :)

I hope you will be too, and (in about 10 to 40 years), me too ;)

Can't say I'd ever actively seek out an oportunity to participate in an iron builder round. I'm such a slow builder:(

These Iron Builder guys are nuts!

I think a good way to atleas get the feeling to be an Iron builder is to force yourself to use specific pieces, that you think are useless.

: Nah. The real way to get to sort of experience what it's like to be an Iron Builder is to do the following 5 easy steps:

1. Party like it's the end of the world - I'm talking shots of Tequila there is no tomorrow style.
2. Limit your sleep and wake up massively hungover
3. Take the most useless terrible part that you hate and force yourself to build something and give yourself a time limit of a few hours.
4. While still hung over attempt to take decent photos and post them to the internet.
5 Repeat
