Group Description

The Global Health Council works to ensure that all who strive for improvement and equity in global health have the information and resources they need to succeed.

The Council recognizes the ability of photography to convey great emotional depth and understanding of issues which are often difficult to discuss, and seeks to highlight the important contributions to understanding and action made by photographers.

Each year, the Council holds a photography contest inviting both amateurs and professionals to submit selections of their work which clearly illustrate the theme of the Council’s core issues of women’s health, child health, infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS and emerging health threats.

To submit a photo, entrants must agree to the contest rules and join this group at

Global Health Council Photography Contest 2009

The Global Health Council recognizes the ability of photography to convey great emotional depth and understanding of issues which are often difficult to discuss, and seeks to highlight the important contributions to understanding and action made by photographers.

Each year, the Council holds a photography contest inviting both amateurs and professionals to submit selections of their work which clearly illustrate the theme of the Council’s core issues of women’s health, child health, infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS and emerging health threats. The Council seeks to highlight success stories in the field.

The winner will be invited to display their work at the Council’s 36th Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. and will appear in Global Health Council publications and electronic media. The winner will be able to display their winning entries as well as other selections from their portfolio, as agreed upon with the Global Health Council.

Submission Guidelines
•Entries will be judged on originality, quality, composition and appropriateness to the theme.
•Entries must not have been previously published.
•Entries may be in color or black and white.
•No more than 3 entries per person.
•Deadline March 2, 2009.
•If possible, please provide information about each photograph in the caption.
•Photographers must be 18 years or older to enter.
•Entries must be submitted must be downloadable at 3”x5” or larger in 300 dpi or greater resolution. Any images that are too small or that cannot be downloaded will be rejected.
•The Council reserves the right to delete photos it deems inappropriate.
By submitting to the contest (that is, posting a photo), you consent that:
- You own the copyright to each image.
- The Global Health Council reserves full rights to reprint, reproduce or display any submitted works in any of the Council's publications, website and other media.
- You have obtained verbal or written consent from human subjects in the photo for non-commercial use.
