Sexy Swedish Babe Eye Protection

Hello. Jallen Dragonhide checking in.

Today April 12, the day I happen to start my photo diary, is my 35th birthday. Blah.

I'm not sure what to say at the moment- I never do at first in "intro" topics.

So, Hi.

*edit*

Sometimes it's best to don your peril sensitive goggles and just charge full speed!!

*UPDATE!* I will be wrapping this diary up in a day or so, but all my NEW 2008 posts are here:

HAH! If you want to get Glory to come out of hiding, you just have to know how to beat the bushes.

It looks like Glory is admiring my amazing coif on the sly. Oh that's right, she probably cant see past that pretty blouse she is wearing.

That's exactly what I was thinking Buns. Glory vanishes for weeks, and as soon as someone says "vibrations" she pops out of the woodwork. Yay!

Tim, the best thing about the Sept 24 pic is that it leaves out the hair! :-0

And I omitted last time to pick up on Archbishop Tutu. He is a great human being, humble to the extreme, and would not have been phased by your not recognising him, in fact I'm sure he enjoyed it. He used to walk around Cape Town with a t-shirt that read: "Just call me Arch".

Sept 25

Tomorrow (err today, it just turned midnight this second!) Ian turns 7.

Hahahahaha!!

They were practicing hitting the ball with their head- Ian was the only one totally shy of doing it, he kept ducking, much to the dismay of his team member next in the line who winced every time.

I need to work with Ian a little bit on this.. hahahaha

Although, he's the only one wearing glasses on the team, I wonder if that has anything to do with it...

Oh, we FORGOT his yellow team shirt today.. instead, he went to his futbol game dressed up in replica uniform of Real Madrid.. Go Real Madrid!!!

When I was in grade school (yes there were schools then) I would always get popped in the face with a baseball on the day of the school pics - 5 years running ! It became a joke around the house.

Happy Birthday Ian - keeping your head down is a good idea sometimes...

CollardGreens: Oops!
Dragonhide 11 years ago
Did your school want to send a social worker to your house? hehe

When I was little, in one year (I think I was about 6 or 7) I dislocated my elbow falling out of a tree, had my dog bite me on the lip when I was teasing it with food.. snatch it away when he tries to bite into my peanut butter sandwich (I was smart!)... my brother threw a steel sign- a "House for Sale" sign and I walked into the path and it sliced my eyelid open (no lasting damage I got VERY lucky)...

The real estate sign was for a company my dad worked for- DeHart Reality and it was shaped like a heart-- when the school inquired about what happened to my eye, I told them that my brother threw a valentine at me... hahaha

They finally sent a Department of Family Services to investigate my family...

They found a happy family with a somewhat clumsy kid, but very happy and healthy.

It happens.
Dragonhide 11 years ago
Thanks Emil!

Alex- are you trying to get me into trouble, AGAIN? hahahahaha

I know what you mean JAllen. When I took my daughter to the emergency room with the third broken arm in 2 years.... they took her aside and asked her what REALLY happened. fortunately (?) they all happened at school and so their suspicions were short lived.

Tonight we celebrate Ian's 7th birthday

Huffing & getting ready to blow out the candle

And it was weird. This is the first year that Ian has lots of friends at school and invited a bunch of strangers (strangers to us) over for his birthday.

It has always been a close friends kind of deal on Ian's birthdays... I suppose that' another milestone of your kid growing up.... Oh geez.

I no longer mind my years advancing, but I damn sure do mind my KID's years advancing....

Aw, he's such a kick ass kid, I adore him. :)
Dragonhide 11 years ago
Ouch three broken arms in 2 years!.... Poor Jade! I'm lucky that I have never broken stuff... Dislocated a few though.. Ouch.

Sept 29

fedora

I've started wearing my cross of a cowboy hat/fedora lately, especially at bonfire & Paella parties at my house. To some it looks like a Fedora, to others, it's a cowboy hat.

Anyway, today was the "Heathen Party" at my house, where we invite all our close friends, who are all..... hmm... not uptight about religion to put it kindly. I live in the middle of a very very religiously conservative part of America, and any one that strays from the "norm" is considered a Heathen- and obviously there's something really really wrong with our souls.

Whatever. They're all good people... I consider myself a good person. So there.

My in-laws and I worked hard for about 3 hours getting this paella going over open fire... and OH BOY.. it was about 20 times better than the last Paella.. .OMG it was sooooo EXCELLENT! And the bonus is, I now know exactly how to make an authentical paella now. I've helped with several now and took lots of mental notes!

At the end, everybody left at about midnight. nobody had to be carried and then tossed into the back of the pick-up truck, too drunk to walk..

In all- life is good & good stuff.

:)

Although I did wake up with a MONSTER hangover... :P

Sept 30

Even a hat cannot hide the fact I desperately need a haircut.

So, my monster hangover?

I'll have you guys know that my in-laws are such go-getters.. I believe that old habits of Spaniards die hard.. they're always trying to conquer the world.

So, I open my eyes to my wife shaking me at 8:00 AM in the morning.. I'm all hung over and stuff, she's telling me, her parents are already up and burning wood- leftover wood and trees from our recent house add-on. The problem is-- it's an incredibly windy day, and we're in the middle of the forest during a drought... so, could I please wake up and start cutting wood, clearing more trees so that our forest doesn't catch on fire?

No rest for the weary.

I love my in-laws- they do keep us all on our toes..... %$#@&!!!!!

A heathen party sounds great!I grew up in the same kind of ultra-religious, ultra-conservative area. Probably has something to do with my passion for travel.

Happy Birthday to Ian! Is he blowing out his candles in the pic? He looks so serious! Glad his party was a success.

(And if your heart is tearing out at his independence and making of friends NOW, just wait til he becomes a teen and really becomes independent *sob!*)

Our bunch of friends in DM is a heathen bunch, too. (In DM, Wednesday night is Church Night -- no other activities can be scheduled, no homework is assigned, so you can head off to church for activities there.) If you don't happen to be of that ilk, it's great to have a like-minded group of folks to keep one sane!

My sister and brother in law have some piles of old wood they'd like to burn, but they need a permit from the town, and everytime they are ready to light the match, they get a call that the permit has been revoked due to wind. :-[

Totally gorgeous picture of Ian and his birthday cake. And that paella is spectacular, the wood fire even more so. I'd like the recipe too, or maybe I've just gotta come to the next heathen party (I qualify), and pitch , help and observe.

No comment about that naughty, perverted Sunshinecity! Do Jewish Italian girls qualify as heathen? Probably, three times over.

Being so far out from a good seafood source, we only had frozen shrimp on hand. It didn't detract too much from the end product, though :)

I've never had Paella with ham... doesn't sound bad to me. This one is mostly Chicken and Shrimp, Good stuff.

Woah, I'm at what I hope is the apex of a horrible horrible week.

Monday, I wake up, my wife needs my van- she's in a hurry to get to work, the SUV has a flat tire. OK.. I mumble and go out to change the tire after she leaves so I can get to work.

I get to work with her SUV no problem, she text messages me... the van broke down on her.

My office manager tells me that an imporaant client's server has crashed.

Tuesday was reasonably good.

TONIGHT. I'm still at work at 9:30 pm.. one of our Internet server's RAID controller card died a horrible death and corrupted all the backup hard disk drives... destroying everything. I'm waiting for the company we co locate our servers at to scramble and assemble a NEW server which I insisted on- I can't take chances anymore.

I expect I'll be up all night restoring everything for clients. Hopefully I can start on that soon.

Sigh. this IT industry isn't always what it's cracked up to be....

I get to go home I get to go home I get to go HOME!!!!!!

Still stuff to wrap up, and one website to reconstruct all over again... we had JUST finished it last week, and had not put it into the backup rotation yet... so... Square 1 again. It's a dynamic website, built almost entirely on the server, so nothing to re-upload back to the server... Ahh the dangers of Web 2.0 I guess, no local copy by nature!

Never again... everything is gonna be in the backup rotation from day 1. :P

Underneath the dark lord of sith- the tyrant Kid Vader's mask, you find...

a 7 year old kid who typically thinks that pouting means that he gets his way every time HA!!

Only sometimes does it work. ;)

Taken at an Italian restaurant that I took my in-laws to.. Very nice place, it looks straight out of something that Sunshinecity would take picture of in Rome.

Dark with low light that sort of mimics dining out in the starry night outdoors in Italy, hence the grain in the picture. I like.

I've been having such a terrible week. I'm not the type to whine much- but I'm whining now.

Last Monday- I wake up, my wife's SUV has a flat, and can she take my van to work? Sure I mumble......

I get up and change the tire of the SUV to the spare. It takes me about 45 minutes, I don't have good tools for the job but I get it done.

Late for work, I start on my way.. My celphone rings.. text message from Merche- my van broke down on her.

Someone else rescues her for the time being- I get to work, an important client has their internet services disabled somehow. Takes a good 3 hours to figure it was a stupid toggle set by the former providers of these clients that we were unaware of.

Tuesday was OK.

Wed. our new Internet server- which has everything redudantbuilt in... the hard disk drive controller decided to eat all the hard drives, corrupting the data *and* the backup. and this is early enough in the server life that I haven't finished coding a backup rotation. Everything is lost. I have to start all over with several client's websites, and all the server setup.

I sleep at the office. Thursday, after just 3 hours of sleep I resume with the server restoring. I get home at 9 pm.. I've been at the office working for about 36 hours by now with only 3 hours sleep (and a few flickr breaks )

Friday.. Big whirlwind installing a major server for a bank went OK.. thank god Murphy took a hitaus.

Saturday- the same damn Internet server crashes again. I am unaware as the server is still relatively new it hasn't been added to my pager alerts yet. Oh yes, and after a hour drive up north to show the in-laws "the city" the van's brakes fail. I have to turn back and gingerly drive back home to switch cars.. what should have been a 2 hour drive ended up being 4 (one way!) Lots driving.

Sunday Morning- I wake up, read a book a while.. then go downstairs to my mad scientist lab dungeon to check email and see dozens of server down alerts that started on Saturday.

Spend all day Sunday fighting with the Datacenter to get everything sorted out....

Monday, I just stared at the computer screen completely burned out. Oh, and took flat tire to get repaired--- There's nothing wrong with it. I think someone is screwing wiht us.

I get the van back, it was just brake pads, not too bad an expense.. back to normal with that.

GOD.. I am tired of Murphy.

Ok I'll quit whining. I just felt I needed to record all this for my diary purposes. :)

Oh the picture-- This is from sunday, when I took a break from server restoring and making new backups to attend a birthday party that ended with a hike on a trail.

impressionist-IMG_20071007_0198 copy

I went right back to the office to work some more afterward.
