Sexy Swedish Babe Eye Protection

Hello. Jallen Dragonhide checking in.

Today April 12, the day I happen to start my photo diary, is my 35th birthday. Blah.

I'm not sure what to say at the moment- I never do at first in "intro" topics.

So, Hi.

*edit*

Sometimes it's best to don your peril sensitive goggles and just charge full speed!!

*UPDATE!* I will be wrapping this diary up in a day or so, but all my NEW 2008 posts are here:

Hi Eelend. I started writing an explanation of cricket is, but then realised I know pretty much nothing, so here is some info for you.

The notable things are that there are two batsman on pitch at the same time and it's possibly THE most boring game in the entire universe {:->
Dragonhide 11 years ago
more boring than golf??!!

woow

(wikipedia says it's 2nd most popular sport in world.. OMG lol)
Jissy 11 years ago
hmm u raise a good point there? i think golf at least has the scenic greens...cricket, some guys standing in the sun all day- can even go on for five days (yup the same game) and one tema bowls whilst the other bats...yup rivetting stuff! lol @ CG- its great for naps! and beer yes yes beer!

July 4th- Americans Celebrate Independence Day

Man o' War

As much as the shortsighted politicians and many citizens in my country have disappointed me in the past, it is good to pause once in a while, and just appreciate my country. It could be much worse.

July 5 An old friend comes to visit.

From college days bygone. He stopped by the farm for the night on his way to Colorado to see another friend. He is traveling with his wife (who is my ex girlfriend! hehe we remain friends tho) and their daughter.

They're all Deaf- so it was GREAT catching up with some of my peers.. I hardly see any Deaf ppl and get to use my American Sign Language among my peers.

Seeing old friends you havent seen in a long time is weird. You get reminded that we're all getting older. Older, grey and bald.. LOL

Hanoi Jane Urinal Target

brewer-cover_20070707_1433

I helped shoot a wedding. They originally wanted me to be THE wedding photographer... I had to worm my way out of it. No way! For one, I don't have the proper equipment-- a flash unit on a bracket and all that. Plus I'm no good at people wrangling to get them to do "formal stuff" cause I'm not formal :)

So I filled in the gaps the pro photographer left- covered the folks, did a lot of closeup, nothing posed, the way I like it.

Oh, the picture? It was in the Men's restroom in the Reception hall we went to party after the wedding. It's a decal inside the Urinal. VFW hall, of course. ;-) (Veterans of Foreign Wars)

I didn't know the story, so I googled with my cel phone.

Hold on a moment -we're talking cricket? The one sport where Australia are indisputably world champions, and Lalalian is an Aussie? Where billions of people on the Indian sub-continent are passionate about the sport, but Jissy is bored?

And CollardGreens was in South Africa last winter (summer), watching cricket, same time as I was there?

We have to talk, people.

Incidentally, I was at University with some top cricketers, and many of them were fanatical about baseball, played baseball as well as cricket, and they were the top fielders and throwers in the cricket game.

Glad you celebrated 4th July in style, Jallen.
Dragonhide 11 years ago
To be honest, I've never seen a game of cricket. I've never seen it mentioned on TV out here in the States... to us, it's something completely foreign. I find that strange, because we do play a lot of sports that have similar European roots- lacrosse, golf, field hockey and others.. especially in places like New England.

Dunno... I'm not terribly big on sports- I enjoy martial arts sports, mountain biking, sailing... often those that are very individualistic.. except for sailing that is. So I'm not an expert on team sports!

I do like soccer/football/futbol tho--- Go Spain & Real Madrid!!

Man, all that cricket talk's making me sleepy! (j/k Rob!)

I've had to worm my way out of working a couple weddings, too--but officiating rather than documenting!
I guess pissing on Jane Fonda depends on how you feel about war--especially the Viet Nam war. She got the name "Hanoi Jane" because she went to Viet Nam. To some she is a hero; to others she is a traitor.
Dragonhide 11 years ago
LaMaqui-
I tend to stay out of politics, but I do think Viet Nam sucked tho. :( I got all caught up in the history of Hanoi Jane in the wikipedia.. And of course wikipedia never lies, since anyone can update the articles, right? *big grin*

Yeah, I'll get my ass to processing the wedding pictures.. I took about 560 photos.. the bulk of them blurry or DoF too shallow due to not having a flash (the on-camera flash of the Rebel XT is NOT an option!) To say the least I'm burned out on weddings, and they're honeymooning and not on my case to get a peek.... yet. LOL I did take some pretty good shots if I say so myself- nothing to really write home about, but still. :)

yup, I think the word(s) you're looking for are mail-order minister ordained by the Universal Life Church. I did it so I could marry my friends, but got over the novelty after just two ceremonies--the first couple I wed is no longer together (for the better), and the second is still together, though unhappily. I've turned down two requests since then because I didn't know either couple very well as a couple. With both couples, I was friends with the guys, but didn't know their fiancees as all. If I ever officiate a ceremony again, it'll be for two people I know well.
Dragonhide 11 years ago
I thought seriously about going that route before, Ebil. I have a lot of friends that have "alternative" views (a lot of which I subscribe to myself) of religion, and many of them aren't comfortable getting married by a stranger. The past wedding last weekend just went to reinforce that point to me.

Bride's last name was Cover, Groom's first name is Chris. So the stranger Preacher: " Ms. snowdale do you take this man Crom as your husband..."

WTF? Strangers have no business marrying anyone as far as I am concerned.

I wish I was licensed when my best friend asked me to marry him and my ex-girlfriend (which I am fondly still friends with).. . but,,, it didnt work out. Maybe I should give it a shot what you did :) They were here last week, and will be visiting again next week for a week.. they've been married 12 years now. I set them up for their first date. How cool is that?

Fancy all this discussion about British colonial games on this particular thread! A few people must be bemused, especially martial arts exponents. Imagine a team game, which goes on for 5 days, and is often only settled in the last 10 minutes (viz. 2 or 3 test matches in the Ashes series of 2005).

And how about a three-week cycle race, starting in London, finishing in Paris, a glorious travelogue for most of the coverage, with a frantic sprint finish every day (so far), with three days of epic lung-busting climbs of the Alps to come.

And how about the enormous PR operation surrounding the Beckham move to LA? For Pete's sake - a very boring family flies from London to LA for a career move, and it's headline news on Sky and tabloids for three days solid.

OK, back to normal programming, Tim.

Thanks for giving us those flashbacks to July 5/6. That's a nice story.

I work for several school district's Information Technology depts, and we're running behind schedule.. so I have a CRAPLOAD of work do do before the teachers and students come back.

Anyway, I updated my icon tonight. to avoid a spanking by a certain someone I won't mention who.... Although I'm tempted a bit not to update and see what happens.

Pisto

Spanish Pisto in the making- raw materials.

Not to be confused with Italian pesto.

Good stuff. All from our farm's gardens (which is mostly just Dad this year.. our house addition keeps us away from gardening)

There seems to be a lot of confusion about Spanish food... A in the majority of America- there are not many Spaniards. So Spanish food is a relatively unknown. Most of people I know think Spanish food is same as Mexican food. That could not possibly be any further from the truth!!

To Demonstrate:

Mexician Tortilla

Spanish Tortilla

Don't get these two confused!! it's grounds for getting kicked out of our house by my fiery Spaniard wifey... LOL (BTW all the stuff you hear about Spaniards being fiery-- is true!* I wouldn't have it any other way!)

perils of fake nails *ouch*

Perils of fake nails... *ouch*

Look at her ring finger... *shudder*

That was done for a wedding- back from July 7th (07-07-07 weddings were popular!)... for some people having extra long fingernails (fake or real) is not a big deal.

Merche was trying to be nice, to be a "proper" maid of honor for her friend at her wedding... so she thought (or was asked to? I'm fuzzy on that detail) it would be cool to have nice classy long fingernails.

But they're not for someone who works horses and the farm everyday.. It totally gets in the way, and Mercedes hurt herself somehow... The worst part was, you couldn't just take the offending nail extension off without incurring further *ouchies*

Ick. Girls are weird.
bunæn PRO 11 years ago
They do have Spanish food in Mexico. When I was eleven we went to a Spanish restaurant in Ciudad México and had paella. We also went to a Swiss restaurant and a Greek deli. In fact the only kind of food you couldn't have in a Mexico City restaurant was Mexican food. They didn't have Mexican food, but they did have food, which in Mexico, is very similar.
Lalalian PRO 11 years ago
Fake nails are truly evil, even if you don't work on a farm.

I had some done once and I felt like a gumby the entire time.
Dragonhide 11 years ago
I wish Spanish food was easier to find in the ole USA. I get almost all our stuff from www.tienda.com/ .

I also discovered a few years ago that Madrid and St Louis have sister college campuses, so St. Louis DOES have a few Spaniards, and Madrid has a few completely lost and clueless mid-westerns. Very interesting! (Probably not that bad, I'm half joking)

Hey Casey- I have to confess that my Spanish language skills is lacking. I took a class in it during college one semester and it did help. My problem is all the classes and computer software I can find all emphasize the spoken language. Obviously that is a no-go for me.

When I am in Spain.. I do pick up a bit, thru all the signs the billboards, product labeling, but I would like to move beyond that.

What I am getting to-- have you tripped over decent Spanish READING lessons/programs/whatever? I want to read/write in Spanish, since Merche and I are planning to retire one day to South Spain around Cadiz/Jerez area one day... I'd like to be fluent by then :)

Lalalian, They ARE, aren't they?! ICK! And I think he gumby comparison is sooooooo right-on! yeah! ouch.
