Sexy Swedish Babe Eye Protection

Hello. Jallen Dragonhide checking in.

Today April 12, the day I happen to start my photo diary, is my 35th birthday. Blah.

I'm not sure what to say at the moment- I never do at first in "intro" topics.

So, Hi.

*edit*

Sometimes it's best to don your peril sensitive goggles and just charge full speed!!

*UPDATE!* I will be wrapping this diary up in a day or so, but all my NEW 2008 posts are here:

I think I might follow your lead and not publish my 2008 diary to the public -- I've found that I've taken what used to be a fairly artistic stream of photos and turned it into a scrapbook with all the daily mundane stuff that I've posted for MDPD. (13 is my lucky number too)

high-five on your new DSL.... welcome to the new millenium -- it must be so frustrating for you, and IT guy, to have to wait for dialup.
sunshinecity 11 years ago
wow yeah.. my stream has gotten rather tashy too... I tend top upload anything and everything... also because I have many friends who come to get pics of our nights out etc...
I know I should make proper sets and keep them visible only to those who I inveite (with guest passes...) But alas i'm lazy... and so i upload it all LOL
BellaGaia PRO 11 years ago
Sunshine -- I use picasaweb for sharing of nights out, etc. I use Picasa as my picture sorting tool and you can upload easily to their album site from there.... yet another product brought to us by google. Hmmm, they should have an export to flickr tool included since they scooped it up too.....
Dragonhide 11 years ago
Picasa the program doesn't run on Mac... I made an ass out of myself already over it.. I absolutely Insisted that it did, only to find out I was wrong. :) I was very surprised tho.. It runs perfectly on Linux! Things that runs on windows usually go the Windows then Mac and then much later, on Linux.

Mac users, however CAN use picasaweb... and that is a good idea, Bella. I'll do that with DSL.. no sense in uploading TWICE on dialup.. YIKES!

A small correction tho... flickr is yahoo not google! Unless I missed the news that google scooped up Yahoo?? Wouldn't surprise me anymore lol
Love the BLUE photo!

Yeah, I once tried to see if I could download Picassa on my Mac; but nope. Interesting about picasaweb, I will look into that now that my baby has flown home.

Well, to Mac's credit, they did a lot of work and put in a new CD/DVD driver, a brand new battery, and lots of other parts all for free as I have the 3 year extended warranty on my laptop.
Loca.... 11 years ago
Beautiful blue landscape.

Some of my daily photos aren't public anymore. There's some things that aren't for all to see, it belongs to a diary and no one else should see it. I agree.
I use picasa but not their album, have to go and look for that.
:))
Dragonhide 11 years ago
That's not such a bad deal LaM then, just some down time (and you managed to sneak in some uptime too!) and you've got a laptop that is pretty much new-ish again. Extended warranties are a great thing for laptops!

Agreed Loca- I don't know why, but I always thought my photostream to be kind of a "living 'current' portfolio" cause it's open to everybody on the Internet... I take LOTS of bad shots that I am proud of anyway... and it was frustrating not having anywhere to post it... Now there's MDPD! But.. still only ONE a day.. grrr... I'm gonna give picasweb a real try :)
sunshinecity 11 years ago
so right... picasa doesn't work on a mac and that sucks lol
Great quick photoediting...

I honestly don't think I could deal with one mor online photo album... flickr is enouh for me.Eh...
Oh well... I'm no pro photographer anyways LOL

I'll live...
Dragonhide 11 years ago
Don't blame you... :) I just want a place to dump loads of pictures online so I can access them from anywhere. You can do that with flickr, but it is sort of a kludge and a pain in the butt especially when you're trying to have a nice artsy presence and at the same time want your snapshots all online too!

I'm just rambling, really.. don't pay attention to the geek behind the monitor.
BellaGaia PRO 11 years ago
No, you're right about Yahoo..... That comment was early this morning before I'd had enough coffee --

You're in good company (we're all pretty geeky!)
CollardGreens PRO 11 years ago
Hey Tim - slowly but surely am able to spend some time here - this past few weeks have been busy like crazy - now that the holidays are near time will be just as sacred but with a better set of activities. The kids (+girlfriends) are coming to visit - well almost all of them anyway.

Concerning the ability to separate the wheat from the chaff....I use sets as a way to do that...one thing flickr has done (as you rightly said) is make a place where you can access your photos from anywhere...I use them as sort of a pacifier when making presentations, rather when taking a break. Sort of a slideshow during the coffee. Anyway I digress -

I do hereby proclaim "good stuff be here" !

SIlly fanboy moment?

American Sign Language- The Manual Alphabet

I have been trying to think of a way to capture sign language on film... I just can't think of a good way except with slow shutter speed and strobe lights.

It's like trying to capture "Hello!" in audio in a single freeze frame moment. You can't. Sign Language is mostly like audio in the way it is linear- with one very important twist- it is also three dimensional (I suppose audio can be arguably 3d too, but unless you are a ventriloquist.. I believe conversations are linear.)

Then the obvious came to me. Fingerspelling! You're merely making the shapes of the letter. You can freeze frame that. With exception of Z.. which is your index finger pantomiming a Z shape... just like Zorro would.

Just fooling around experimenting with the idea...

*edit.. realized I made a typo in the date.. originally for 20, but it was actually 19
Dragonhide 11 years ago
I would apologize for the size of the animated GIF, but I won't cause I uploaded it on dialup...

*edit for above: I said "film"?! Geez I am so old school.. I meant capture it into a picture. :-)
ebilflindas 11 years ago
AWESOME!
But man, imagine fingerspelling whole sentences, let alone getting a shot of each letter! That would be like me trying to sign with you in person--with me fingerspelling 9 out of every 10 words!
jrayfarm1980 11 years ago
Because my sister is 10 years older than me, and moved to the East Coast for a good part of my growing up years, I sign using pretty much all fingerspelling (and made up signs). It works well for my sister and me...other hearing impaired folks? Not so much. :P

And Tim, love the goofy facial expression at the end. FLICKR ROCKS!
sunshinecity 11 years ago

My First EVER Car Accident :P

My son and I were on our way the office. we were going down the highway at the speed limit about 45 mph... this guy at the stop sign crossed the highway without looking.

I couldn't avoid hitting him. I hit him in in his left rear side of his little truck. He spun around like a top and went off the road. My van stayed where it was. Ian was sleeping when it happened...

I looked back, he's looking at me... "You OK?" Yeah Dad... what happened?? "We hit a truck"

Long story short, nobody hurt. My back is a tiny bit sore, but that's all- probably from stressing over the $500 deductible I will have to pay to get the van legal to drive again :P

Happy Holidays! weeee

Of course, it could have been MUCH WORSE, we did get very lucky.

I've never experienced this before.. as a driver or passenger. I plan to never experience it again. :P
Simon-K 11 years ago
God that sounds awful, glad to hear you and Ian are ok! I've only ever been in a tiny crash and I wouldn't want to repeat that again so I can imagine this has left you a little shaken!
Dragonhide 11 years ago
Thanks Simon! I'm still a bit shook up.. it only happened 3 hours ago.. :P

But we're OK tho :)

sunshinecity 11 years ago
Awwwww!! Big hug for you and Ian!

I don't know what it is about this time of eyar, but we get so manye accidents aroudn christmas time. I guess people are just plain crazy... with all their shopping and runnning around...
I've witnessed (well, seen the results of) about accidents in 3 days. NOT cool!

I'm glad to hear Ian was asleep. Might be a bit less of a shock for him.
Thank god you are both ok.
Dragonhide 11 years ago
Yeah Reebecki, they SUX :P Thank god nobody seems to be hurt!

Alex- I know! Crazy.. and even out here in the middle of nowhere... That truck that pulled in front of me was the first vehicle I saw towards the end of my 10 mile commute to the office. Go figure. :P

Ian's fine. He was more upset about the fact he won't be able to go to the office and play on the broadband Internet all the web videogames.. LOL

"Dad, we're going to office right?" No Ian.. The van's messed up...

Ian: *stands up inside the van to peek over the hood* Looks OK Dad.

"No no, come on out I'll show you." *Walk around to the front showing Ian*

"Yep, you're right Dad, it's broken."

Merche came right over (after I text'd her) while I was communicating with the police.. and she bee-lined straight to Ian crying herself, and Ian was all.. "Mom Mom, Dad and I are FINE, dont worry.. The van isn't fine but we are FINE"

I'm amazed at what a trooper Ian is.

Finding a few sore spots here and there.. but nothing big.
Lalalian PRO 11 years ago
Oh, Tim. That's terrible!

I'm so glad you're both alright.

Ian is super cool {:->
Oh, I am so glad you two are okay. Do you have to pay to have your van fixed if it was the other guy's fault.
See a doctor--anyway. You never know.

Take care of yourself--and that super cool kid.
Dragonhide 11 years ago
Heck yeah Ian is super cool.. I am so mighty proud of that kid.

La Maqui--- Maybe not. I'm so ignorant-- this is my first accident I've been involved in. People since have been telling me the other guy's insurance should pay for it and my deductible shouldn't even apply. If that's true, I can still have happy holidays... :-)

I'll just be borrowing other people's vehicles for a while.. but that's just a small pain in the neck compared to what it could be.
Speak with your insurance agent--they will go at it for you. You should not have to pay anything--including medical bills.
Dragonhide 11 years ago
Oh you bet I will. My insurance agent is also a friend- it does pay off on occasion to live in a small town :)

Fortunately I believe medical bills will be not exist. It's not the dollars that worries me there, it's the pain. That seems to be going away. so no worries. I really do think my back ache was from the stress from thinking mistakenly what I MIGHT have to pay... lol I already feel better after talking to some people more experienced than I about these things...
CollardGreens PRO 11 years ago
The "finding a few new sore spots" tells me that there is "deceleration trauma" ....(having lived through a major one a few years ago). Gypsy is right - go to the doc and document the injuries. For no other reason than to be sure you are ok...US health insurance probably will not pay for any AFTER visits if you wait too long. As it is an auto accident, your own auto insurance should cover the initial visit, then they work to recovere funding from the other guy's insurance - better yet if you both have the same carrier.

Sorry to hear in any case - it all goes to slow motion during and then after you replay it (and shake) mentally over and over - Ian will too. The driver and the stop sign...hope he was ok too., You are fortunate it was not worse - to be sure ! Glad to hear the injuries are minor (go to the doc anyway !!).
ebilflindas 11 years ago
Oh man, that's teh suxx0rz! Glad you two are ok.

IAN YOU'RE A STAR!!!
Dragonhide 11 years ago
You speak some serious wisdom CG- I can't take anything you say lightly about these medical matters.

Fortunately though... I have been through far far worse in my martial arts "career"... I have a pretty good idea of what sort of trauma is the bad kind.

Guys, I really am OK!

It's just my first ever crash... so of course I'm a drama queen :)

That being said.. I promise to these concerned including my wife, that I will go get checked out if I am still sore in the next couple days.

Will that work? :)

Thanks guys... for caring.
RobW_ PRO 11 years ago
Wow Tim, I'm so glad you're both OK, and good for you driving an SUV, there is surprisingly little damage for a 45mph collision.

I've missed quite a lot here in the last few days, hilarious capture of Ian and the choir, awesome animated GIF, and especially the discussion about Picasaweb; I must consider it too, I upload far too many pics to Flickr, although I am quite disciplined about tagging for search and keeping them in sets.
BellaGaia PRO 11 years ago
Most important thing is that there were no injuries. Yep, if you were not at fault, your insurance will not be attached at all -- no deductible. How fortunate you have been to have never been involved in an accident before now. I've been in several -- the worst was on the freeway, i spun out and rode the center divider for about 100 yards backwards. My car was in horrible shape -- no injuries for me or my toddler. Lucky us! Cars can be fixed, so I think your merry christmas is still in tact! -- no deductible!

RobW Thank you! Glad to be allright.. I got really lucky. More I think about it, more lucky I feel. The truck I hit was a very lightweight pick-up truck (Lorry in Queen's English I believe). I hit him behind his back wheel and his bumper, and the truck was empty. The impact was very small considering. My Airbag didn't even go off. If I had hit him just a little more in the wrong direction, we all would have been seriously injuried.

Poor guy, he felt so badly. He went especially white when I opened the back door to reveal my little boy sitting there with saucer size eyes! A miscalculation nearly gave everybody involved a bad Christmas. :P

Anyway, Merry Christmas Rob!

Bella- Wow. I shudder at the thought of that experience you had on the LA freeway... OMG. Glad you guys weren't hurt in that! Tomorrow, I will be contacting my insurance.. now that the Christmas holidays will over. Hoping forthe best! Merry Christmas, Bella!

Alex- Aw thank you. :) Yes please.. but you have to behave! hahaha Merry Christmas, Alex- and feel free to wish me a happy [insert an important Jewish holiday]! But be prepared for my curious mind quizzing you about it.. lol

Rick- Oh yeah! Thanks Rick!! :-) Merry Christmas to you.

*catching up on missed days in my diary*

Oh- an aside: You wanna know WHY we were going to the office in the first place? I realized I left my Memory Card with a couple days I wanted to catch up on my MDPD on it. Yeah, of all the luck! I was also going to put in a hour of work.. but.. dang MDPD was the real reason.. LOL

Not everybody will be able to have a Merry Christmas...

This guy featured in the memorial wall here- he's the first casualty of the current war between USA and Iraq from my county- Washington County, MIssouri. The military is still investigating his death- he wasn't killed in the field, he was killed back at home base in Iraq for unknown reasons. Yeah, smells funny to me too.

I hope that 2008 brings an end to all the senseless fighting and violence.. There is no point in killing your fellow human being. We should be celebrating our differences, and not killing each other over them.

This one hit fairly close to home. I work in the office on the top floor of this building (Which is off the frame- to the right side- the CIty Hall) and this guy is the brother-in-law of the City Clerk.

It's not a true party until someone loses their pants!

The day after Christmas, we had our "christmas dinner" with my oldest sister and her family.

Pictured are my brother's step-son (that I have to keep a sharp eye on... *sigh*) on left, my brother's son who lost his pants, and then my son Ian.
When my mother was still alive and we all lived in California there used to be 21 members of the family crowded in my mom's house for 2 or 3 days--and that doesn't include all the visiting aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. This year it was just myself and my son--quite a change.

Happy New Year to you.

Yowks! I wasn't around when you had your accident. That must have been quite a scare! You're right, it could have been much worse, but that doesn't mean it was nothing. How's Ian holding up? When our car slid into a parked truck (the road was pure ice, there was nothing we could do -- and we had been going 15 mph, too), Trixie was freaked out for over a year whenever we had to drive in snow...

Holidays can be great, but it definitely brings out the worst in some people. Glad you were able to enjoy the good parts.
