february 1st: i'm at the cinemart @ iffr

070201 - iffr

here's john teerink, director and producer of a beautiful film about Jonas Mekas, eminence grise of 16mm cinema.

I spent much time at cinemart, because I had a project of my own I wanted to get people interested in. Attended a good forum discussion on digital distribution of films (the threat and the opportunity that is youtube) I saw many, many films, but being part of the trade side of the festival was also nice.

february 2nd: back at lantaren/venster again

070202 - iffr

back at lantaren/venster: I went from De Doelen to L/V and back several times a day, because most films I wanted to see were screened in either of those two locations. L/V is nicer, you get to meet directors in a more relaxed atmosphere, it's more intimate and the q&a after screening were more interesting and thought provoking.

this was also the day i clinched a deal for my own project: a cinemart development deal for the concept, a shooting script, some production and shooting of a few scenes and a sales agent for iffr 08. If it's picked up then, I can shoot it, and screen it at iffr 09 and a number of partnering festivals. It's going to be a short film about "devotees" and "pretenders" of disability and about disabled sexworkers who cater to these fetishes. It's going to be a political film, of sorts, but as to the format, it can be anything, a comedy, a straight documentary, a porn movie, a combination of all three...

this photo I took right after calling and texting everyone (well almost everyone) in my phonebook to tell them the news.

q&a after the screening of a hebrew lesson

A Hebrew Lesson by David Ofek was the last film I saw at iffr. It's been an amazing experience, and there's a lot of hard work to be done in the coming months.
