For today 01/29/07
I took this while screwing around with the flash on my camera. I was of course avoiding my homework again. Always avoiding my homework lately. There were a couple different shades of color I was able to get, but the red I liked the best.
Invited to join by a lovely girl.

Another book club. This time we discussed Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling, and The Big Over Easy by Jasper Fforde.
We laughed, we traded barbs, we had a really good time. The tea shop lady stated we were one of those odd little book clubs that actually reads the books each month.
Oh, and there were really good scones and tea.

Company picnic at the Denver Zoo tonight. It started out okay and I thought we might stay for the whole thing but somewhere along the way my son and I got restless and my beau decided to just take us to The Simpsons movie instead.
Somewhere on the drive, we spotted this entrepreneur selling meat, or steaks from his truck. For only two dollars. Makes the mind boggle as to how a truck, a cooler, and a dream could come together to bring you cheap meat.

My best friend died two years ago.
Her birthday is August 10th.
So how do her closest friends cope?
We go to see Bowling for Soup. We've done it two years in a row now. Mostly because the band makes us laugh, they are laid back and silly in a way that we can appreciate, and the lyrics to their song Ohio (come back to Texas) helped us all cope by laughing after her death.
We drink too much, which would please her tremendously. We dance all night, which would thrill her immensely. We hang out together, which she bugged us to do constantly.
But mostly we try to not cry about our friend that died too young, and that we didn't get enough time with while she was here.

Sunday is my favorite podcast day. Because the Sunday puzzle comes out, and I usually find time to listen to This American Life, but most importantly because Wait Wait... Don't tell me! comes out. I love love love love love Wait Wait, I have a weird little radio crush on Peter Sagal.

Went to a different train station today, actually one of my favorites. There is an art installation at the Southmoor station so that when people cover up, or bump into those light poles they light up and play music or birdsong. This photo was taken right after a crowd passed through so all the lights are lit. I love the sound and the smiles that spread through the crowd.

Okay. I couldn't decide if I was charmed or amused by this guy at the bus stop. I do know I was mesmerized.
First let me say that right now for my book club one of our books is Slaughterhouse Five and I was listening to it at the book stop. So already I'm in the middle of a time warp as i listen to my book, and then I spotted this gentleman reading Tropic of Cancer, and that just added to my warp.
He seems so cool doesn't he? With his all black clothing, and his thin cigarettes. He actually had a whole ritual to light them, with licking his lips and smoothing his fingers along his lighter before actually lighting the cigarette. The mirrored sunglasses and the milk white skin were the perfect finishing touches.
I was in awe. Some people just are art, even if they don't know it.
Still not sure if that is a good thing or a freaky thing, but lord it fascinates me.

The most recent book club books are Slaughterhouse Five, and Arthur & George. Of course I'm never quite satisfied reading just two books, p-shaw! I'm also currently reading a really gripping, but strangely sad memoir Lipstick Jihad. The saddness isn't overwhelming, and I'm not even sure sad is the word I would use to describe the feeling, so much as just a crushing oppressiveness. But the books is super good, really, I swear!

One of the things I'm supposed to be learning from this whole dieting thing is that whole breakfast is the most important meal fact.
I gotta tell you if I'm supposed to eat twigs for breakfast, I'm not so sure I'm that interested in raisin brain for an extra fiber-y stay with me breakfast.

I put stickers on a lot of my possessions that I take back and forth to school and work so that there is no confusion as to who it belongs to when I go to powder my nose or accidentally leave it in the classroom or office.
This is one of my favorite water bottles, it has a straw.

You seem to stumble over a lot of odd moments, and capture them so well.. How cool is that!

I love to buy used books, and I really love to buy used books for school due to cost. Usually I'm really careful and try to pick the books no one has marked in yet. I guess I totally wasn't paying attention when I got this book. Every single page is marked and underlined and has notes in the margins. Really distracting when reading. I think the thing that bugs me the most is that if you are going to mark a book like this, why not just keep the freaking thing?

My son is in cross country running this year. Sometimes he is really excited by the running, and sometimes he is just a little weirded out by the large amount of people that run with him. He isn't used to being on a team and part of something where he has to be concerned with his performance and how it changes the rating of the team. He also has the fear that because he isn't good at something right away he'll never be good at it, no matter how hard he tries.

We have quite possible the most uncomfortable couch in the freaking universe, yet it has a magical power that as soon as you lay upon it, you fall asleep. The trick is to stay upright.
My mom is slowly becoming her father, as I imagine I will slowly become my mother in the future. She's a nurse and when they schedule her for three twelve hour night shifts in a row she is one pooped puppy.
I love to watch my family sleep, makes me feel protective.

My friends and I get together semi-regularly to write and do homework and hang out. Today, at the library while waiting for the others to arrive, I watched a parade through the window. Still have no idea what the hell the parade was for, but I was entranced by the way the soldiers looked next to the huge broom and dustpan sculpture. Little tin soldiers marching along the streets of downtown. Later we all had lunch and then played in a nearby fountain.

I don't watch a lot of television, but I've always had a soft spot for the television show Homicide: Life on the Street. The same folks, Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana were behind this show. I thought I would check it out and see how it is, so far it has been freaking awesome.

I work in the medical industry, and have for a long freaking time. One of the big anti-joys, but important things to pay attention to is HIPAA (The health insurance portability and accountability act) which has a lot to do with patient privacy.
At one of the hospitals I used to work for I was the HIPAA officer for my department. It basically means we had to have our gold books with all the HIPAA and JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) rules and regulations.
Having a rep drop off all these cute little gold hippos just amuses me.

I just re-read The Eyre Affair, probably going to re-read all the Thursday Next books so that I can read the newest one that just came out a couple months ago.
My son and I are going through the Artemis Fowl books at night so we can go through all of them, they are very cute.

Went to a friend's house today because she wanted a little primer on how to use iTunes, and wanted me to take some photos of her back before her surgery tomorrow.
She just recently got the puppy in the background and her older beagle seems to be staring at me to tell me how jealous she is of the puppy.

After visiting my friend in the hospital I went to go pick-up my son from practice and noticed some boys playing baseball in the parking lot. One has to wonder what was going through their minds as far as car windows goes. Of course in their defense they did use a tennis ball, but it was streaking fast.
