Just returned month-long trip to SE Asia, where I had much opportunity for introspection. I actually picked up a journal and was reminded at how helpful it could be to sort out the muddled ramblings in my brain. A goal I return with is to continue to journal and regularly check in with myself. Take notice of the small day-to-day details that make life so rich.

Happy Belated B-day! Sorry you weren't feeling well. Hope your doctor can work out the b/c issues.

I hope Frankie is feeling better soon too. He is beautiful. I too hate to see our furry and feathered friend's sick.

I loved the book Running With Scissors. I have only heard bad things about the movie, so I haven't seen it.

Hey Magpie - I add the belated birthday wish...we turn our birthday celebration into a birthday week. The happy recipient is allowed all kind of privelidges...rejoice that another year has gone by and you can mark your journey with an additional candle. I have a bonfire on birthdays and revel in it !

Frankie has nice eyes...seems to be an eye theme running around - why not join in? Tell Otis - careful with the feathers !

We worked out the b/c problem with an office visit (mine) to the surgeon (maybe too much info also) ... life is goood !

Keep well - CollardGreens: Oops!

Yay -- I had no idea our birthdays were so close together ( i knew i liked this girl) Keep celebrating all month! I've moved to all year, in fact -- it makes it interesting -- you'll get to do that after 40....

I particularly like the photo from March 4 -- the colors are so soothing

Happy birfday, Erica. Regarding Teresa's comment on the photo of the 4th, true that. I like the pattern the little tufts of vegetation make.

And regarding Frankie's tongue, should that be "LOL" or "Loll"?

I celebrate waking up every morning---you'll get to do that after 55...

- Thanks, I think she's beautiful too, even with a slight blur. And don't bother seeing the movie. It's well casted, but a let down. Not horrible, though... I don't know.

I like this weeklong celebration idea. Bonfire tonight!!
Phillip has brought up the snip snip idea after seeing me struggle with b/c so many times but I'm not 100% certain I don't want a kid, and feel like that has to be a 100% sure decision. We go through phases of -yes, we should have a kid- and then - maybe we won't have a kid. We know we'd be great parents... but that's not a reason to have a child. I can so see the appeal of creating a being between you and the person you love most on the planet... the nurturing, the teaching. Everyone speaks of the immensely deep love, etc etc. But I don't feel we should have one unless one of us feels the NEED to have one if that makes sense. RIght now feels like poor timing (although I know that there's no perfect time.) and I don't have that huge urge. But I've got a little time left. We'll see how it pans out. I'd love to hear others discourse on the whole kid/no-kid thing.
We do have names picked out though, and I think they're good ones. ;)

thanks sweet stee...

I do tend to connect with other Pisces folks, strange as it is. And thank you, I love the colors as well.

arrrrghhhh.... Lolllll.... you are so bad. And thanks... celebrating waking up every morning is a good thing.

spring?
Note to self: Never go to Best Buy on a rainy Saturday. Ever.

A sluggish day... gray again. Went to move us up in the technical world and bought an iPod today. Am excited to get acquainted with it and it's magic. Also bought us a couple of video games. We go in phases and tend to play them for a bit, and then not touch the machine for a long time. I played video games today... teehee, how childish... I blew up things... It felt good.

Went on a walk with P and the dogs. Noted all the blooming things to counteract all the grossness of crowds shopping and packed parking lots and strip malls. I think it worked OK. Chose this photo particularly (there was a Best Buy one via phone) to keep the important things in mind.

renewal
Spring decided to say hello today! It was warm - about 70 - and NOT RAINING! *happy dance*

Walked to Lara's and she told me about practicing her Espanol with some folks out in Gresham - business owners. She bought some interesting fruits and we relished them. Mango, and two others I don't know the name of. One was spiky.

Went home and did yardwork, which made me so happy and which is why this is the photo of the day. (Looks better large!) I am overdue in pruning the roses, but today it happened. I deadheaded many things and started the enormous weeding task needing to happen in the front. Dirt, warm air, deep breaths. Yes.

Outtakes here, including a plant bud that covered my face (and camera) in yellow pollen-dust.

The morning celebration (going on right now in Paris) you get :
1 - to eat your dessert first
2 - some small quiet time alone'
3 - fresh home brewed coffee
4 - a grapefruit
5 - whiskey in your coffee (if it's mon, wed or fri)
6 - coffee in your whiskey (if it's tue, thur)
7 - fun messages on the kitchen laptop
8 - list is expandable according to needs
9 - pollen on your face and camera in springtime...

What the morning does not include (yet):
1 - retirement activities...but we are practicing

Nicely done on the blossoms and happy thread - glad its not raining

Thanks for your comments here and on my photos... March 14-16 were shot JPEG... I changed the camera setting to take a couple of quick photos to email and forgot to change it back. They're JPEG fine, but still JPEG... oops. Were it NEF I may have been able to have P's hood less washed out, but I still love the shot.

Good! I don't feel so bad LOL... I will post a photo of the highlights sometime soon. They're nothing major, just a continuation of the blonde I've always been. I'd like to go darker sometime, but spring is not the time. My face just likes to be blonde... I wish I could rock really dark hair but it washes me out. Maybe I haven't found the right shade, I dunno.

The tattoo is a Thai word for Reverence. It was hand-done in Thailand by a sweet local guy.

There's a better photo of it here (in the journal) and a photo of Phillip undergoing the process here, here, and here.

I can go more into why that word if you want me to... for now I'll just give the definition: "a feeling of profound awe, respect and often love."
~magpie~ PRO 11 years ago
More than happy, m'dear. Tell me what still hurts or feels weak, be as specific as possible - i.e. which specific parts of the arm and what movements. Hard to do it without poking and prodding you... but I'm sure there are a few things you could do, especially if you're still stiff.

So good to see everyone despite my few days off! I can't guarantee that it won' t happen from time to time when the weather gets nice, but I'm committed to keeping this up! I regret not being able to read others' as much during this past week or two...

Hi! Well, the dog knows how to find you should you take too long. Does he have a name, by the way?

Not this time. Think low lighting, really tall leather booths, and a very long bar. You walk in and the room is not super wide, but very long. Good beer on tap, and yummy food. We actually just had a fruit/cheese plate and an olive plate. Stuffed ourselves silly though! Oh, I took a cute Phillip photo inside a little while back, but it doesn't really show much but a bit of the tall booths...

sun dried
A nice day... Otis got a spray bath today (he usually just goes in the shower with us) and then dried off in the sun, singing to himself about how cute cute cute he is. Got a bunch of errands done, including buying a new dog bed and a new toaster oven.

When looking for a toaster oven, I had to specifically look for one withOUT non-stick surfaces. This goes back to my little Otis guy. Non-stick (Teflon, etc) surfaces (technically called PFTE I believe), when used at high temperatures, can kill birds. This includes non-stick pans, non-stick ovens/toaster ovens/space heaters, etc etc etc. We have changed over to cast iron, stainless, or pyrex cooking surfaces and non non-stick products. Now, realize that we did this for Otis, but if this stuff can KILL birds, what the heck are we inhaling? There have been reports of humans getting ill from this stuff too. Do a google search on Teflon poisoning or PFTE or whatnot and you'll find a wealth of information.

Just something to think about.... *steps down from soapbox*

the bastard
Phillip left this morning for an overnighter at Smith Rock with a couple buddies. So this evening was just me hanging with the critters, watching bad TV, and drinking a bottle of Phillip's favorite beer on earth. (I am embarrassed to admit that I watch America's Next Top Model. Don't judge me. It took a lot of courage and a large beer to admit that.) This beer isn't my style - very bitter - but it does have a rich taste. I like smoother beers, but with also a lot of flavor. Think porter or a good brown. I'll drink IPAs if they're not overly bitter. I am a beer snob - Bud Light is only an option when there's nothing else available at a barbecue.
CollardGreens PRO 11 years ago
I propose a Grimbergen if I may...not bitter at all - hint of clove, nice brown (or blonde) color and all business !

Hey! I've got the pounder for your IPA!

White wine + Creme de Cassis = a Kir, whereas if you're drinking champagne/fizzy wine + CdC, then you've got a Kir Royale.

A Kir Royale? What do they call a Whopper? I dunno, I didn't go to Burger King.
lramiro520 11 years ago
The last time I drank Arrogant Bastard was probably 2 years ago very late into the night sitting on a porch with 2 of my male friend (one of whom is now my boyfriend :-p We took turns taking swigs from the bottle which, of course, was hidden in a crushed brown paper bag..LOL!

Stone brewery is awesome, but the brewery with the best names is Middle Ages (Syracuse): Sweaty Betty, Wailing Wench, Swallow Wit, Druid Fluid, etc. But you wouldn't like them because they tend to make their beers very hoppy, so they can be pretty bitter. And I'm not a fan of bitterness either. There's one exception though...Swallow Wit is a fabulous wheat beer! :)

We have been slowly, but surely, replacing our non-stick cookware. Our most used pans are a 5.5 quart stainless sauté pan, a 2 qt. stainless sauce pan, and our 7.5 qt. Le Cruset Dutch oven.

Kathy's Chair
Another beauty of a day. Walked to Lara's to water her houseplants while she was away, picked up some groceries and fresh flowers. Came home and couldn't help but notice our neighbor's yard... well, our ex-neighbors. Went in the backyard to take a few photos, including this one.

They have moved out, and someone has bought their house -cheap- to renovate and turn over again. We have been waiting oh-so-long for them to leave. You wouldn't BELIEVE the trash/junk this buyer has had to haul out of there. It's crazy, and disgusting. These people had no respect for their property, or for each other as a family. Their dogs barked constantly. (We complained many times, and it did get better.) The "mom" would regularly yell and cuss at her kids at the top of her lungs. We could hear her telling them they were stupid and trust me, she was as dumb as a bag of hammers. Near the end, the kids weren't around much - foster care? to grandparents? Who knows. I wonder sometimes if they're going to turn out OK or if the odds are stacked too highly against them.
