This is my attempt to take a picture every day of 2007 which should represent my day in some way. I'm a Politics student at Hull University (UK) and im in my final year so 2007 will include some big events for me - graduation, moving to a new city and flat, starting a new job etc. So hopefully this will project will be a good account of an intersting year!!

Anyway enough talking here's the first picture.

Mini Moo Card Holder

Well I found a great little holder for my Moo cards. Its actually a portable ash tray believe it or not, but its the perfect size and it was really cheap!!!

More work today, but after work I met up with three of my four housemates from Hull (two who have moved to London as well, and one who was down visiting) and we went out for a meal. It was such a great night catching up, although the resteraunt we picked was a bit naff. We went to the Rainforest Cafe which is really aimed at kids; the food wasn't great and it cost a small fortune, but that didn't really matter because the company really made up for it.

Oh and I almost forgot I got my exam and final degree results today!! My results for the year were really good and I've ended up with a really good 2.1 degree which im really pleased about :)

Love is a Human Right Apparently

This is a very common sight for me now. One of the things you quickly come to realise is that as long as there is politics, there will be protestors. And in the UK they will focus their attention outside Parliament and around the government, i.e exactly where I work. I have no problem with that either, in fact it actually gives me some nice photo opportunities (whether or not I agree with each particular protest). Anyway today outside were work were these two women campaigning for Amnesty International. I'm not exactly sure what it is they're campaigning for, but I thought it made a good picture.

Also had a really nice lunch today. I met up with an old colleague of mine who is a great friend but who I haven't seen in about 10 months!! So when she knew I was back in London we had to meet up for lunch. And it was really nice to see her again and catch up on everything she's been doing. All though I'm not sure my boss would appreciate how long we took for lunch (2 and a half hours - sssh don't tell him!). But its a Friday, so i'm too worried about it :)

Relaxing at Canary Wharf

I had such a great weekend, no stress, no hassle just loads of sun and relaxing! It started on Saturday with a bit of food shopping, and I ended up buying a few things for my new house which sort of made it feel more like home. Then in the afternoon me and my housmate went to Canary Wharf, where they have a small park and a big tv. We were there all afternoon and we watched the end of the British Grand Prix, the second half of the Womens Wimbledon Final and then the Live Earth concert. It was such a great way to spend the afternoon, so much so that we did the same on Sunday :)

Tour de France in Greenwich

The other big sporting event this weekend was the Tour de France which for the first time would actually start in London. So I went along to Greenwich in the morning to watch the start of the race. To be honest it was a bit boring! I ended up standing around for nearly two hours waiting for them to arrive, and when they finally did it was all over in about 5 mins. But I got some good pictures and the atmosphere was great.

As yesterday I spent the afternoon in the park at Canary wharf. This time watching the mens Wimbledon final! It was a great match and was made so much better with a good supply of strawberries :)

Very busy day at work, normally aoart from me there is only one other member of staff in the office, but today there were five in total so the office (which is relatively small) felt a bit crowded, but it was a good day with lots of interesting work.

Also when I got home I got a nice suprise, my brother had sent me a card to congratulate me on my degree result and my new job. My family aren't big on sending cards apart from birthdays and christmas so this made me smile.

London Symphony Orchestra @ Canary Wharf

Friday the 13th - good job i'm not superstitious!! Had a really nice day day. I always finish work a bit early on Fridays so I headed out to Canary Wharf with my housemate and we had a great night. The London Symphony Orchestra was putting on a free concert of music from the films. So we got over two hours of great music from films like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Superman, Out of Africa, Jurassic Park. It was such a great atmosphere and it is obviously one of the more popular events as there were loads of people there!

I have to admit to being a really big fan of the Harry Potter films so was really looking forward to seeing the new film. And today thats exactly what I did. I went to the new entertainment venue called the The O2 which used to be the Millenium Dome. I was really suprised its a great venue with loads going on.

The film was really good, much better than the first couple of films and it stayed pretty much true to the story. Now I just can't wait for the final book to come out on Saturday!

Graduation

Well the day i've been working towards for the last four years has finally arrived. Today was my graduation ceremony!! And it was a fantastic day. To get to University in time my family and I had to leave at 6.00am!! But it was worth it. The ceremony was really good (if a tad long!) and some good speeches were made. I managed not to fall over when I got on stage (Which was the big fear) and saw all my friends graduating.

Then after the ceremony (and what seemed like 100s of pictures) we went for lunch. We decided to have a picnic by the river and had strawberries and champagne :) Perfect. Then after lunch we returned to the University for a reception at the Politics Department.

It was basically a perfect day, and we finished it off by going to my favourite Indian restaurant :) You can see the rest of my pictures in my graduation Set, although the best photos won't be uploaded for another day or two.

Class of 2007

Unfortunately some of the pictures that I took between the 19th-22nd July have been deleted by my brother, meaning that the next few days may not be accurate in terms of when the picture was taken, but they will represent my days! (Well apart from today!)

Today was quite a frustrating day really. It was one of my old housemates graduation ceremonies today back in Hull and i'd promised id go back and see it. But when I got to the train station because of all the recent flooding in the UK (for those that don't know pretty much all of the UK has suffered some sort of flooding in the last two weeks!) trains to Hull were delayed meaning I couldn't get to her graduation in time. So suffice to say I was pretty pissed off. After that I went home and just caught on sleep and then spent some time with my parents.

The picture is of all my classmates from the last four years (in the middle is Lord Norton, my Degree Supervisor) so its pretty special.

While normally I would spend the whole day reading the book, I could only spend about an hour reading it in the morning because soon after my whole family came over to go out for lunch to celebrate my graduation (most of my family couldn't make the ceremony so it was nice to have this meal).

Lunch was really fantastic, the place was really nice and the food was gorgeous and it was so nice to have all the family together.

The train journey did give me the opportunity however to read the Harry Potter book and just as I arrived in Kings Cross station I finished it!!! Which to anyone who has read Book 7 wold be a fitting place to finish the book!

We are all doomed!!

Back at work today!!! I already feel like I need another break :) But I guess thats just because im so tired, will need to catch up on sleep at the weekend!

I don't know about the rest of Europe but in the UK at the moment its been raining almost non-stop for about the last three weeks (althought its not been too bad in London) causing loads of floods. Today part of the River Thames started to flood and the Evening Standard (local paper) was running a really sensationalist headline "Thames Floods Prepare to Flee!!" this despite the fact London isn't even remotely threatened. Annoyingly by the time I could get my camera to take a photo they'd changed the headline, so this picture will have to do!

Onwards and Upwards

As I said yesterday, ive not been feeling my best for the last couple of days, and today just made it worse!! I pretty much spent the whole day either chasing after my boss or trying to track him down (difficult to do when his phone is turned off) which wouldn't normally be a problem but today it just seemed to take all my energy and by the end of the day I just felt really tired. So it was a big relief to get home.

Today's picture was taken on part of my daily commute. Because I travel on the Tube alot this means loads of escalators. So when I was on one today I just whipped out my camera and took a few shots.

Canary Wharf

I knew from the moment I woke up this morning that today was going to be a bad one!! I woke up late meaning I really had to rush to get into work on time, then on the way to work I couldn't find my ipod so got it into my head that I must have lost it. Finally got to work and the day just carried on being naff. I was really busy doing research for a speech and ended eating lunch at my desk which I hate. Anyway the afternoon was much the same and I was really looking forward to going home when it became clear my boss wanted me to stay late to get the speech finished. In the end I didn't leave until about 8.30. But I was happy to be leaving and i'd just found my ipod (left it on my desk) so I was in a better mood. Before I got on the tube I stopped to take some photos, thought id got some really nice shots only to find out there was no memory card in the camera!!! So todays picture is not from today.

But on the good side I'm starting to feel better :)
Dragonhide 11 years ago
I remember that feeling too well from film days, I've wanted to poke my eye out with a sharp stick more than once realizing I've been snapping photos without film in my camera.

Thank god my camera comes with a "bitch feature" that is, it bitches at me if I try to take pictures without a compactflash card.. I had to turn it on, I wonder why it comes toggled off by default... I mean, WHY?

So at last the week is over and I can look forward to the weekend!!! Despite having to work late again, today was actually quite a good day. THis was mainly because I got a suprise at lunch. I had to go to the bank to pay in a cheque and while I was there I checked my balance and found out I had a chunk of money I didn't know about!!! It turns out that as well as spending less money over the last few months than I thought, i'd also had a housing deposit paid into my account that I wasn't expecting :) So instead of saving like I should do i'm going into London tomorrow to do some spending :)

St Pauls Cathedral

For some stupid reason I'd agreed to go into London first thing this morning, so instead of having a nice long lie in like I normally do, I was in the city. But anyway once I was there I got on with the task at hand - spending :) I decided it was time to upgrade my ipod so I headed to the Apple Store on Regent Street. I came away with a very nice black Video Ipod. And then because its hard for me to take my big camera with me to work everyday I decided to buy a small compact that I could take everywhere.

After the shopping part of the day I spent some time around the famous St Pauls Cathedral taking some photos (with the Canon, not the new one).

Do you ever have a day where you just don't feel like yourself?? I woke up this morning feeling a bit off, despite sleeping really well I felt tired all day and spent most of the morning half asleep. Then in the afternoon I had no motivation to do anything, I started to watch a film but got bored, I tried to read but stopped, I even tried to do some work but gave up on that. The only real thing I did all day was go out to buy some diet coke!!!

Well its the last working day of July and that can only mean one thing - PAY DAY!!! I always find pay day such a bittersweet day though, because for a few short hours I've got quite a bit of money in my account but by lunch i've paid my rent and some bills and loads of it has already gone! Oh well, i'm just happy to be finally working and getting paid. I can't believe I've been here a month though it all seems to have gone so fast!
