This is my attempt to take a picture every day of 2007 which should represent my day in some way. I'm a Politics student at Hull University (UK) and im in my final year so 2007 will include some big events for me - graduation, moving to a new city and flat, starting a new job etc. So hopefully this will project will be a good account of an intersting year!!

Anyway enough talking here's the first picture.

Well today was much better than yesterday. It looks like we have found, not a flat, but a really nice little house. Its just near Canary Wharf which is an area I really like (if a little further out of the centre than I would have liked) and is really nice inside. The picture is the area the house is in (you can see the closeness to Canary Whary!!!). So we've put an offer in to the landlord and we just have to wait and see if its accepted. So i've got my fingers and everything else crossed because I really want the house.

After finding the house we just had a relax in the city - went for a milkshake in an American Diner, sat in the park, looked round a few shops. It was great. Then headed back home on the coach.

OOPS - NO PICTURE TODAY
----------------------------------------

With all the stuff happening today I completely forgot to take a picture!! Its been a bit hectic really. I had every intention of getting up early to head back to Hull, but I was so worn out from my two days in London that I slept in. Then when I did finally manage to leave the house I got stopped by my neighbour and his wife who talked to me for half an hour!!! Not only did they end up making me late for my train but they managed to make me feel bad about myself (they sort of touched a nerve of mine - without meaning to, they're nice people).

But anyway so I finally got the train and got back to Hull and not long after I got in I got a phonecall from the estate agent - the offer had been accepted and we could have the flat. That meant having to sort out a tonne of stuff including paying (or more correctly borrowing from my parents) a pretty big sum of money for the deposit and first months rent. But now i've got somewhere to move to the proper packing can start :)

Odd goings on in Hull!!!

Why does nothing ever go smoothly??? Today I should have finished all the details regarding my new house (signing the contract, paying the deposit etc) but instead it has been put on hold as there might be a problem connected to references. Its not even a problem really but the agent is making it a problem through her sheer incompetence and there is even a slight possibility we might not end up with the house at all!!!! So you wont be suprised i've had a pretty stressful day.

Foggy Night

Today I started properly packing in preparation for me leaving Hull in two days (tomorrow will be my last full day here). So a bit boring really. I also had a wander round the Campus for probably the last time and it was quite strange because it was completely empty as most people have already left. I was walking round for about 30-45 minutes and I didn't see a single other person! I'm going to miss this place...

ps- even more weird then walking trhough campus for the last time is returning after a few more years (coz u need to pic u some script of some sort) and suddenly things are completely different!

Contemplation

Got a bit of a shock today. Was in my room this afternoon and I started to hear voices (i'm not going crazy) and then someone was unlocking one of the bedroom doors. So I stuck my head outside and there was a whole family stood out in the hall!!!! The university accomodation office had decided to fill two of the empty rooms (that my friends left last week) but had neglected to tell the rest of us still living here. So its a bit weird!! But i'm leaving tomorrow so it doesn't really bother me.

This is becoming a bit of a habit lately!!! So busy today that I never got time to take a picture. I left Hull today and it was a bit of a nightmare. I had originally thought I didn't have much to take back home but when it came to packing the car there seemed to be loads and it all weighed a tonne!!! I was knackered by the time I was finished.

And there is still no news from the Estate Agent about the flat so im still in limbo. Im supposed to be moving in to the new flat on thursday but for all I know it might not be happening. I just wish it was all sorted!!!!

Well today was another nightmare day with loads of stressfull calls to the estate agent trying to find out what was happening!!! And eventually after almost shouting at the estate agent we finally got the answer we were after - THE FLAT IS OURS :) So i've now got to quickly get the deposit paid so I can move in on Thursday!!!

Today's picture is really naff but I took it really quickly before I went to bed. Its the street where I've lived all my life and im going to miss it when I leave in two days!

Only in London

So today was moving day!! Even though it was a really long drive (which normally I would end up sleeping through) I really enjoyed the time with my mum (who drove me) and was so excited to get to my new house. Unfortunately we got a bit lost on a number of occassions but it was certainly worth the wait because when we arrived this is the scene that greeted us. I still can't get over the fact that this sort of view os now just on my doorstep. I'm loving my new area!!

Canary Wharf Station

Today was one of those days thats boring but just has to be done. I had to ring up loads of companies like the electric and gas suppliers and get them to put all the bills in my and my flat mates names!! Then I had to call the council and get them to register us to pay the local tax!!! But with that stuff sorted the house is starting to feel more and more like home.

Poplar Station

We explored the local area today to find out what we've got near by. Apart from the absolute tonne of shops, bars and food places across at Canary Wharf (the big buildings a couple of days ago) we found our local area has a really useful market, and loads of useful little shops like DIY stores and grocery stores.

The picture is of part of the local train station which is just two minutes walk round the corner. Perfect!!

More Canary Wharf

Today was a bit of a wasted day annoyingly. I had to wait all morning for a new washing machine to be fitted in the kitchen and when it finally arrived it didn't fit in the space!!! Which means I know have a big machine that I can't use stuck in the middle of the kitchen! Then when I was finally able to get out it started pouring it down again!! But i've got better hopes for tomorrow. The weatherman is promising sunshine so I plan to go visit London Zoo and take tonnes of pictures.

Cheers guys for the reaction to my recent shots - it means a lot toget praise from such a talented bunch!!

Unfortunately Starbucks has decided to end its free internet (if it was ever free to start with - I think I might have been lucky!), which means my ability to upload pics might be strained over the next week as I can't really afford their rates. But I have found the joys of the easyinternetcafe on Oxford Street which is much cheaper so hopefully I can find a way to upload from there until my home connection is sorted out.

Meerkats - London Zoo

Well the weather finally turned today and the sun came out!! This meant that I could finally go visit the London Zoo :) Despite having lived in London for nearly 18 months in the past I never got round to visiting the Zoo and so weith some time off I decided to head out and have a look. Even though its a bit pricy for my bank account it was really worth it, I spent hours there and despite all the annoying school children it was great fun. Really struggled which picture to use today but I really like this one so it won in the end.

@eelend - they are cute, and very curious animals as well, whenever a plane passed over head they would all stare up at the sky. I thought they were going to fall over at one point.

@Jissy - you should go, its great and you can easily spend a whole day there if you want. Now you just need for it to stop raining in the city!! But as its Wimbledon next week, I wouldn't hold your breath :)

@Bella - Thanks Bella, I tend to shoot in colour, this then gives me the option to keep the colour or convert it later. With my architecture shots I tend to always convert to B&W.

@Mary - definitely go to the zoo, the kids will love it.

Overlooking the Eye

Today was truly a touristy day. I walked round Oxford Street, went to the Tate Modern, walked around the South Bank (my favourite area of London) and generally did a lot of touristy things. It was great. My favourite part of the day was seeing a bunch of statues by the great British artist Anthony Gormley. He has created a series of sculptures in his own image and then placed them around the Waterloo area of the city, mainly on the roofs of buildings. Its a bit disorienting at first, as it appears people are about to jump of the buildings, but they are fantastic!!
sunshinecity Posted 11 years ago. Edited by sunshinecity (member) 11 years ago

London Eye

Another shot of one of London's biggest tourist attractions. I always find it a bit strange going back to the London Eye because for a short period in the summer of 2005 I actually worked there. It always brings back slightly mixed feelings because while I enjoyed working there (for the most part) I was eventually made redundant because of the July 7th bombings and the attempted bombings on the 21st July. The attacks unsuprisingly led to a serious downturn in the number of visitors to central London which meant that many tourist attractions had to lay off a large number of temporary staff - including me :( But I made a number of good friends while I was there, so it was worth it in the end.

Avenue Q @ West End Live

Today was a very fun day. Every year the local coucil puts on a big event in Leicester Square (the heart of London's West End) called West End Live. At the event some of London's top shows perform and there is a great atmosphere. This year there were performances from Chicago, Mamma Mia, the Lord of the Rings, Stomp, Fame and my personal favourite Avenue Q. Without doubt the crowd was really waiting for the cast of Avenue Q because a massive cheer went up when they came on stage. And for good reason - Avenue Q has to be the funniest thing I have ever seen on stage. With songs like "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist" and "If You Were Gay" its just fantastic. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that hasn't seen it.

The New Prime Minister

It was a very big day here in the UK, especially for someone obsessed with politics like me. Tony Blair has nowformally resigned as Prime Minister and also as an MP. We have a new PM in Gordon Brown (who I think will be very good), and being in London I got to see a little part of it take place. At lunchtime I headed over to Buckingham Palace to watch the comings and goings of both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown who had to visit the Queen to resign the office of PM and to be invited to form the next government. The picture is of Gordon Brown as he left the Palace as PM and on his way to Downing Street.
