This is my attempt to take a picture every day of 2007 which should represent my day in some way. I'm a Politics student at Hull University (UK) and im in my final year so 2007 will include some big events for me - graduation, moving to a new city and flat, starting a new job etc. So hopefully this will project will be a good account of an intersting year!!

Anyway enough talking here's the first picture.

Rt. Hon David Blunkett MP

Well today I was lucky enough to attend a speech given by the Rt. Hon David Blunkett MP, the former Home Secretary. Now I'm not his biggest fan usually but I thought his speech was quite interesting and my opinion of him went up because of it.

What's interesting to note about Blunkett (apart from his recent personal problems!) is that he is actually blind, yet he hasn't let this hold himback and he has held some of highest jobs in government (Education and Home Seretary).

Dominoes

I don't know why but this week I've been incredibly tired and as a consequence I haven't done most of the stuff I've wanted to. And today was no different. I ended up sleeping for most of the morning and even though I really wanted to go to the gym (i've got graduation and the end of year ball to think about) I just couldn't bring myself to go.

Anyway tonight some my friends invited me round for dinner which was really nice and bizzarly they cooked fajitas which was what I was planning to eat anyway. As a bit of a joke one of my friends had bought me a dominoes set as a present because I mentioned it earlier in the week, which of course meant we had to play a few games :)

Banana Toast

So today was all about relaxing. It all started with perhaps the best nights sleep I've had in ages. I was just so comfortable in bed and when I knew it was cold and miserable outside there was absolutely nothing compelling me to get up - so I didn't :) Then I spent most of the day in my favourite chair reading listening to music and watching TV.

And on top of that I had some of my favourite food. As a sort of lunch I had banana's on toast. Now I know that might sound like a bit of an odd combination (I certainly thought so at first) but its really nice and if im not having a good day or im in a bad mood it never fails to pick me up. Then tonight I cooked one of my favourite meals - Chilli Chicken and Noodles. Normally its really nice but tonight I messed up a bit with the quantities it was a bit too spicy and I made nearly twice the amount of noodles I actually needed. But never mind it was still really nice.
karinga 11 years ago
It does sound like an odd combination! :) Other odd ones I have come across: ice-cream with french fries and cucumber with honey! :)
Simon-K 11 years ago
I can sort of imagine ice cream and french fries but not cucumber and honey that would be such a weird combination!!

March 5th

Today was the complete opposite of yesterday - it was awful (although very productive)!!!! I spent the morning going to the bank, getting my hair cut and going to the gym all of which I'd been putting off for way too long. But on the way back from the gym some complete idiot in a van shouted some insult at me for absolutely no reason. I didn't even know the guy. Needless to say this put me in a pretty bad mood which carried on for the rest of the day.

After I'd finished these jobs I went to register with a new Doctor but got lost on the way and ended up giving up and going home. The afternoon was spent in two quite boring classes with a really bad headache and then a few more things went wrong at uni to top off a really bad day. I just hope tomorrow is better.....

New Camera Case

Got a new Camera case today from Crumpler which I'm really pleased about (even if it is a bit too bog), its much better than my old case.

Quite a mundane day today, spent mostly working on a presentation i've got to give on Friday. It was broken up by having coffee with a good friend of mine that I'm planning on living with from July so we were making plans which was fun. Then this evening I rented the film "Little Miss Sunshine" which I really enjoyed, one of the funniest films I've seen in a while. I would definitely recommend it. Apart from that not much else happened today.

Cadbury Creme Egg

Inspired by petervanallen’s picture a couple of days ago I went out and bought myself a Cadbury's Creme Egg. As well as being one of my favourite things around Easter (although they start being sold almost straight after Christmas) they make for quite nice photos.

Today was another mundane day today, spent mainly working on my presentation and watching episodes of the West Wing. The only interesting thing (if you can even call it that) to happen today was when I went to turn on mybedroom light it exploded into loads oftiny little pieces and managed somehow to knock out the circuit for the whole house meaning none of the lights worked until it got fixed.

Spring is in the air

So it appears that Spring has arrived on Campus. In the last few days the trees have started to blossom and some flowers are beginning to show. I always think the campus looks so much nicer with all the extra colour, it makes the walk to lectures that bit more bareable :)

Draft Dissertation

Today had the worst possible start - a 9.15 tutorial :) I'm not a morning person really so I don't like early classes, but today was even worse because in the 9.15 class I had to give my presentation!! But in the end it went quite well and my tutor was happy so I was pleased.

After classes I did the weekly shopping and then did some odd jobs around the house before searching the Politics Department for my dissertation supervisor who had promised to hand me back a draft copy of my dissertation with his comments. Took a few hours but finally foundhim so now I can get on with finishing it and getting it properly bound.

The day ended really well with me and a few friends going out to celebrate passing our exams (bit of a late celebration). Had a great night, but forgot my camera so unfortunately no pictures of that.

The White Stuff

Woke up this morning and went to get my usual cereal for breakfast and realised I'd forgot to buy milk at the Supermarket!!! So I had to wander off to the shop to get some. And that pretty much sums up my day, the rest of the day was spent talking to my brother and sister (who I haven't spoken to in a while) and doing little else.

Lion Dance

My housemate Alex was taking part in the University's Malaysian Culture Night tonight so we all went along to support him. The show involved various cultural demonstrations including Chinese Hip Hop, Indian Dancing, two forms of martial arts, a one off play and a fashion show. Alex was involved in two of the main sections - the Lion Dance (where he was the Head) and the Chinese Drumming display. Both were really great to watch and the lion dance was really good. Overall the whole night was a great success and I had a great time.

Money, Money, Money

I got two really good pieces of news today. Woke up this morning to a letter from Birkbeck College saying I had got through to the next stage for my MSc application and that they were inviting me to an interview at the end of the month :) This means as long as I pass the interview I'll be on the course!!!! So I pretty much had a smile for the rest of the day.

Then a few hours later I was offered a short term sort of job :) The politics department has recently hired a new professor from Israel and he has tonnes of boxes that need unpacking, so the faculty has offered him some money to hire a student to help organise his office - and i'm the lucky one. Might be a really boring job, but its means some more pennies for me which are in short supply at the moment :)

Red Nose Day 07

Another day's work for the Professor and my feet are really killing me, was stood up pretty much all day. But when I got home I had a little treat waiting for me from Inga - CHOCOLATE TEA!!!!! I've never known tea smell so nice :) Haven't actually tried it yet (not had the time) but can't wait to try it tomorrow. Will let you know what its like. Cheers Inga, your now my favourite person in Finland (even if you are the only person I know in Finalnd)!!!!

Anyway you might be wondering about the picture?? Today is Red Nose Day in the UK which is an excuse for people across the country to make fools of themselves doing various things for charity ranging from having a bath of baked beans to sponsored runs etc. As part of it you can buy a red nose with the money going to Charity works in Africa and the UK. Its a great day and ends with a really long tv programme full of great comedy and shows such as The Celebrity Apprentice. Perhaps the highlight so far has been the Prime Minister in a sketch with one of the UKs funniest comediens. At the last count over £26million has been raised!!

Today started out well, I had another morning working for the Professor and he confirmed that the Dean of the Faculty has agreed to me being paid soon which is great.

However shortly after getting home I had quite a spectacular accident!!! I was heading downstairs to get a drink when I slipped on the first step, after which I grabbed the bannister to try to steady myself but ended up just causing me to spin and hit the bannister with my back and then continued to fall to the bottom of the stairs!!!! At first I thought I had done some serious damage to my wrist, but luckily I just ended up with a few cuts and a couple of pretty massive bruises. What makes it worse is that almost all of my housemates saw my embarrasing moment and saw me spralled out on the floor, not to mention I've got a big plaster on my face where I cut my nose!!

I also spent the day scanning old pictures onto my computer which I've been wanting to do in a long time and was also a good distraction from my nerves about tomorrow. But I almost didn't make it to the interview. I had to leave Leeds at 5am this morning to get the bus to London which should have got to London about an hour before my interview. Hi There Simon -- Just went through your whole stream and have enjoyed the pix and stories very much. Forgot what life was like as a student -- you brought it all back to me. Hope you are having a pleasant visit -- having a twin -- I've always dreamt of that. The chocolate tea sounds interesting, but i'm not much of a tea drinker and when i do, it's more fruit herbal teas. eat your nana and pb sandwich proudly -- add honey or raisins and it might send you into ecstacy! i'll be here to visit more often -- great stream! and brightened my spirits :-) oh yeah, and everybody and these cadbury eggs. i wish they came in smaller sizes so i didn't feel like i'd been SOOOO bad when i eat them.

Back to Hull

Headed back to Hull today and its a bit of a surreal feeling to be honest. Where I live is probably about 90% populated by students so when you're there during the holidays its almost like a ghost town because no ones around. So walking back to my house today I hardly saw a single other person, quite eerie really.

Today's picture is another starbucks, this time by the train window. Feel a bit stupid having two Starbucks themed pictures in a row, but it does represent my day and it was the only picture that I actually liked.

Spring Flowers

Today was another perfect relaxing Sunday. I decided to properly enjoy the day before throwing myself back into my dissertation tomorrow!! So I had a lazy morning, I slept in and then read the Sunday papers before having a nice walk to the shop to buy some food for a sort of breakfast/lunch. The weather was perfect so I took my time and enjoyed the walk. I'd love to say that the flowers were growing in someones garden or along the road, but they were in the shop as there isn't much colour where I live :)

Today is of course the 1st of April meaning its April Fools Day. Personally no one tried to fool me today but the press as usual did have a few things which made me smile. My two favourites were a story in the Guardian newspaper that the Prime Minister Tony Blair has decided to become a serious actor when he steps down later this year and would be staring alongside Kevin Spacey in the West End, and the second was an announcement by google that they were launching a new free broadband internet service that connected through your toilet!!

Ha, thanks Glory. It was actually someone who knows what he's talking about (annoyingly) and he's been extremely helpful in the past. I'm just fed up because I thought it was nearly finished. But I guess if I want a decent mark I need to put in the time :)

Dissertation

Being stuck in the library all day long I had nothing else to photograph than my work!! I cannot wait to be finished with this degree, its starting to feel like it will never end! The last three and half years go past really quickly (especially last year) and the last few months just seem to be really dragging.

Glory, you're all over the place making people smile!

Simon, I dig your last shot--handwritten text is always interesting, especially when it's neat, like yours!
