poor glory has been defining herself on flickr conversationally since april of last year. without a camera. (poor me!) however ---and gents and dolls, this is a mighty great *however* --- a camera is almost within reach. we're talking two weeks tops, here.

YAY for that. YAY a HUNDRED MILLION TIMES. i am so freaking excited. wee!

so. it's a great time to begin a journal. this way i get to chronical my anticipation from the very beginning to its delightful finish -- complete with what i hope will be awe-inspiring digital images. i dearly love inspiring myself and i look so very cute with my jaw dropped open and my eyes all sparkling and everything. wait and see! xoxo

now that we have a dog we go walking in the early evening. this way when we walk into our lovely air conditioned apartment, we can really smell the stink of play on ourselves, and therefore truly enjoy our individual showers.

yesterday we saw this tree. this perfectly climbable tree. which i climbed. i snapped this photo *just* before i fell out of said tree. it was the first time my kids have ever heard me say 'fucking motherfuck'. i feel very certain i'll hear those words again out of the mouth of my seven year old

yeah i can hear it now "happy fucking motherfucking birthday, gramma!"

i don't normally complain about my physical discomforts unless i can put a fun spin on it. but man ...i'll tell ya ... i banged the freaking hell out of my knee when i fell. it's swollen up and i'm quite limpy. on top of this i have walking pneumonia, which is *not* a fun combo. i feel weak and can't support my own weight for long due to the aforesaid limpiness. there are zombies out there somewhere with higher dexterity and mobility levels than i've sported today. i believe this must be true

Well Glory, I got to know you way back at the beginning of this exercise, in January, and had to admire your spunk, humour and repartee. After a long absence, I've just read through your entire diary to date, and admire you even more, empathise with the bum things that have happened in your life, (empathise is such a wishy-washy word, but I feel deeply hurt by what you've gone through), I love the pics of your girls, treasure the thought of you reading to them, and recording tapes, and just wish the best for all of you. And keep up with that wicked sense of humour and turn of phrase. Finally, great pic of pear blossoms, sorry you had to injure your knee getting it - those blossoms seem to be breaking out all over the world right now, and that's a hopeful sign, isn't it?
Love

drab chicken [deleted] Posted 11 years ago. Edited by drab chicken (member) 11 years ago
wow. Rob, that felt good to read. i want to give your words the attention they merit. so. rather than an embarrassed and abbreviated 'thanks!' i'll say this:

my spunk keeps me alive. my humor is the umbrella i use when life rains on my parade. repartee tends to keep me entertained through it all. being a mother to my children is the only thing in my life that is effortless for me. everything else is a struggle. you'd be surprised by how many people witnessed the abuse i suffered during my marriage and who still stood firmly against me leaving it.

i felt like i was defending my decisions at every turn. i felt like crying would be debilitating and so i staunched the salty flow of grief and swallowed my regrets. i just about choked on the lump it made in my throat. then. i caught a beautiful case of the fuck-its. my issues sometimes go unresolved, the way yours and everyone's issues remain unresolved from time to time -- while i (like you) wait for the courage to resolve them developes.

i appreciate that you didn't read through these 5 pages silently. reading this in its entirity ...allows you to see slivers of my soul. i'm more than a happy little monkey banging on my drum. i'm more than a pretty girl. i'm more than a half-broken person. i'm more than a mother. i am a person who likes to share life's spotlights ...and a person who's little feelings get hurt when ignored. i'm ...multi-faceted. a person with a history and a future.

all of that amounts to thank you, Rob. just to be clear.

drab chicken [deleted] 11 years ago
aww. how nice to walk into this. xoxo

i'm happy to report that a weekend of only relaxing has made all the difference. i slept my way through saturday day and night. my mom took the kids for me, so i could be as sick as i really was and start healing. when you go go go all the time, your body hasn't the time it needs to recoop, is the lesson i've learned.

they girls missed a birthday party we'd been planning on attending but my mom played Courses with them, so it worked out. Courses is when you go to a few different restaurants in a row, instead of ordering appetizers, the main course, and dessert all at the same place. they liked that very much. my sister and i liked it when we were kids too (the Cool Points i'd score aren't worth the money i'd have to spend, so i don't initiate this particular game. thank goodness for grammas)

i'm happy to further report that i'm no longer limpy. i could easily outrun the bad guy in any horror movie. I COULD EASILY TRIUMPH OVER EVIL NOW. WOE UNTO YOU, EVIL-DOERS still though. i think i won't climb trees anymore. it hurts me to say this but .. i may be too old for it.

*sighs
Lalalian PRO 11 years ago
The dinner thing sounds cool.

I've done this by going to different friends' places for the courses, but there are a group of restaurants near the city that organises a similar thing. You pay a set price and then wander through the parklands to get to each place.

i'm all jumping into the love fest a bit late, but I think you rock too. The guys, Collard, Buns & Rob (our Sr. Statesmen) are well respected by me for talent and character and I second all their glowing compliments. Further, being perhaps a Sr. Stateswoman of sorts myself here in our little community, I like your analogy of your humor as an umbrella -- so often it can be used a cloaking device or a weapon -- neither of those is as endearing or as cozy as an umbrella. Also, as a single mom, I admire what you're doing with your girls -- I know it's hard work -- I can't imagine having two.

so anyway, when you're ever feeling a little blue, or falling out of a tree again, -- return here to page five to lift your spirits and know that there are people in far corners of the world who have peeked in on your marvelous spirit and are happy to bask in a little of your GLORY!

I, too, had my tongue pierced. Once, I took it out at work, thinking I'd had it long enough that I could leave it out for a few hours and still be able to pop it back in. Nope. I had to have my friend re-thread it through the already closing hole (the tongue heals swiftly)--which hurt more than the original piercing. Then, when I was in the hospital last summer, I had to take it out before surgery, and I never put it back.

Tyson Chicken, for example. they need somewhere to store their food while it's waiting to be distributed to stores or food cafeterias.

what *i* do is keep things looking pretty on paper. and when the accounts come up for review i put on my warrior's gear and fight to keep the account by being smart. 'smart' sometimes entails (entales? haha) some ass kissing at times and i'm almost over hating that part, but not quite.

i was able to leave work early yesterday. it's funny how much difference an extra hour can make in the evenings. i picked up dinner and a movie and the kids and we watched Happy Feet like we didn't have anything else in the world we needed to do. then we ate icecream in our pajamas and stayed up late doing homework. it was awesome

before the movie and after dinner, we took our lemonade outside so the dog could do her nasty business. this has become super important to me suddenly-- i discovered quite to my dismay that sara the dog will *eat* her nasty business if she's left alone with it. ugh! she apparently thinks it's delicious. jesus god help me break her of this. hahahaha! against the wall
i titled that one 'against the wall'. it's how i've been feeling deep inside myself for a little while now. i've been feeling like a hostage in my own life. i've been feeling like i'm at the mercy of other people's whims. i've been feeling like i am constantly grappling for control. none of that feels good.

the decision i made on my own to discontinue family therapy seemed not to be a good one. there appears to have been consequences. *behavioral* consequences and we're not talking about my behavior so .. this is not good news. when i first came to this realization .. i was on the very edging of flipping out due to insecurity.

then. then TODAY my greatest friend (wot wot Lola) and i discussed the possibility of food allergies being a possible trigger for mood swings in my child. this could possibly explain some of the tantrums and disruptive behavior. at any rate, i'm unwilling to simply dismiss the possibility. i feel ...less hopeless suddenly.

i feel ... um... i dunno exactly, but.... i don't feel like i'm in a house full of closed doors any more. i feel like possibilities and options aren't all necessarily horrible. i'm nowhere neat at peace, but i'm nowhere close to giving up either. that's something.

Ooooh, food alergies. Yes, definately check that one out. I've seen major turn arounds in kids when their diet is changed.
CollardGreens PRO 11 years ago
A good friend here is a child nutritionalist and wrote a book about diet and behavior - I'd send it but its in french. The jist of it is that it indeed makes a difference.

On the counterpoint - I had an uncle who could thump the table (you know like you would flick a speck of dust off your clothes) so hard it would make the lamp go off. That impressed us enough...

Kids are funny and different and hard work (we raised a selection). What works with one doesn't with the other. There are no real rule books and no operator's manual. You are mostly on your own. I always liked it when my parents talked to me like they would to their friends - you know - truthfully and without the parent / child barrier. Made them look a whole lot less like indestructable parents and a whole lot more like real people. Good luck here.

i keep this stone and cross in my bathroom. they're resting on a picture frame very near the vanity mirror. i look at these every morning. in the morning i always resolve not to judge other people. at the end of the day, when i return to the vanity to remove the contacts from my eyeballs and don my glasses... i either look at these again and feel proud of myself. or. i feel guilty ..because i'm guilty

i wasn't a very good person on friday. i didn't behave like a very good person, at any rate. i work alongside a woman who .. well ... who i loathe, on a personal level. professionally i think she's awesome. but. personally i think she's a skanky slagwhore from hell.

she slept with the boyfriend of one of my friends recently and friday was the first time i met her face to face alone. she's feeling guilty. she's feeling sorry. she wanted to talk to someone. i can be sweet. i can be really very sweet. but. i surely was not that day. she asked me if we could maybe talk after work. maybe i could even bring my kids? i said no. just no. the look i gave her told her more plainly than words that ...i knew. it said more than that, actually. it said so much more and it was all nasty. i can convey withering disapproval without saying a word. i'm not proud of it, but i can

*sighs

and that it why i keep the rock. i should probably wear it around my neck. gah
