poor glory has been defining herself on flickr conversationally since april of last year. without a camera. (poor me!) however ---and gents and dolls, this is a mighty great *however* --- a camera is almost within reach. we're talking two weeks tops, here.

YAY for that. YAY a HUNDRED MILLION TIMES. i am so freaking excited. wee!

so. it's a great time to begin a journal. this way i get to chronical my anticipation from the very beginning to its delightful finish -- complete with what i hope will be awe-inspiring digital images. i dearly love inspiring myself and i look so very cute with my jaw dropped open and my eyes all sparkling and everything. wait and see! xoxo

What's Up O Glorious One! Just popping by to say hi -- great self portrait and fun crafting.....

by the way i LOVE brendan (another great nose.... )

sending u a big HUG..... real life is ever so much more difficult than life depicted on TV.... it isn't over in an hour... it keeps going on and so what they can wrap up so nice and tight in a script just simply isn't real life.... no choice in that circumstance could be an easy one...

giving a hoot
the weekends are a time for me and my little family to relax and regroup. i have two girls. due to bad weather, we postponed our Saturday Fun Day -- which always yields some different kind of experience, none of which we actually plan on. instead, we opted to stay home and read.

i unintionally impressed them with my mad trivia skills. one of the questions on the kid game show Double Dare was "How many squares are on a checkerboard?" i glanced up casually and said "64". haha they were so impressed! well. who knew being a compulsively counting freakshow would some day impress someone? ...ya gotta love life's little surprises, yo.

darklords and zombies before bed
Monday was a difficult day for me. after my girls went to bed, i spent the evening alone reading.

it's been one year since i left my husband and ran for my life. that run took me and my children into the safe, helpful arms of a womens shelter. with their help i healed physically and began to emotionally heal. i owe them more than i can ever possibly repay.

dear editor
yesterday i spent my lunch hour composing a letter to the editor of a winnipeg paper.
here's the article:
www.winnipegsun.com/News/Winnipeg/2007/02/03/3514635-sun....

here's my letter:

Dear editor:
It is important that you realize that a portion of your readers have been victims of domestic violence &/or marital rape in the past. It is equally important that you realize that a portion of that portion are CURRENTLY victims.

This article sickens me. It shines a light on a thing that should be seriously addressed and then cues the laughter of an unseen audience by engineering it to be amusing. Physical abuse is serious. Period. The cutesie headline is worse than inappropriate. It mocks this victim and her experience.

love,
glory

well. that was my first letter to an editor EVER. i have to say it felt good. empowering, even. i received word back that they'll run it today. i said *something* and of that i am proud. wee

Don't know where I was going with that but I do like the ambiance of a little disorder in the order. Sometimes you have to unsort things to sort them...

Oh - the link brings you to the paper but not the article - I am sure they are rethinking as we speak...

You're so right. That article glosses over the hatred and mocks that woman's situation. He physically and sexually assaulted that woman in front of her children. They made light of it! Good for you, Glory.

Firstly, for the journalist to write about this subject in such an off-hand way is bad enough, but for the Editor to let it go through is even worse.

glory, I think we may have to share some story bits some time. I applaud, commend, and congratulate you on your strength and spirit. I hope we hear more about your letter to the editor--as in an appropriate response from them!

edit: Ok, I just read the article. Agreed, there's never an excuse for violence, especially with children in the home. There's also no excuse for the cheeky headline. I hope to hear that there was more than one letter to the editor regarding the insensitivity of the author and the poor journalistic form of the editorial staff for allowing this to go to print.

Trouble
my daughter ashley and i have similar senses of humor. this ...is not wholly good. haha. sometimes she resists authority by arching a brow and smiling with menace. her teacher and i are on a first name basis

last year during a routine game of Simon Says she was the much coveted Simon. she issued her commands and maybe fell in love with the power of it all. the last order she gave was SIMON SAYS ATTACK ISSIAC ..poor Issiac never saw that one coming.

last night she and i attended a concert that my *other* girl was singing in and coincidentally sat next to ashley's teacher. small talk revolved around ashley's behavior improvement. i surely do love good news. yay for progress!

clusterf*ck
clusterfuck. ever heard the term? it's vulgar slang for 'big fat mess'. well, that's how *i* define it.

okay. so. i have a relative who is a 26 yr old college graduate who just really doesn't feel like working any more. she's in debt, on drugs, and insane. ..the last bit is my opinion, not a clinical diagnosis. FYI. moving on:

my mother has spoken to me on her behalf and suggested i take her to raise, so to speak. she asserts that my influence could very well be substantial and change her life for the better. um ...that's a fantastically optimistic maybe, yeah?

see it from my side: hi, i'm a single mom working 2 jobs. my little home is a precious haven free of drugs and turmoil -- which is the ideal environment for raising kids. this plus one junkie ain't gonna cut it. nuh uh.

i imparted my feelings on the matter so... my mom took this woman into her home *herself*. and? haha. oh i'm a horrible person for laughing even a little, but ... chick sold my mom's tv *and* smoked all of my mom's weed. hahaha she's so pissed!!!

i said: mama, maybe your pot and tv changed her life for the better
she said: shut the fuck up.

*laughed my head off

I read that article you linked to, really irresponsible on the part of the newspaper's editor to publish such a lurid piece. I was a juror in a domestic violence case. The victim recanted in open court the charges she had made against her boyfriend, but he still got convicted. There was too much evidence to prove his guilt. It's very common for the victims of abuse to change their minds and try to protect the perpetrator.

Ashley is a sweetie!

I totally agree with your house being a haven.

Over the years, I've had some really fantastic housemates, but I've also had my fair share of craptacular ones that make coming home a chore.
drab chicken [deleted] 11 years ago
see? that's what i anticipated and absolutely wanted to avoid. so what i wonder is ... do you have a roomie pet peeve? something that makes you grit your teeth and your hair just falls out in clumps because of it?

i have this thing with wrinkles... if a blanket is perfectly folded but there's an unsmoothed place ... a *wrinkle*, if you will... i have to fix it. i am compelled. and say someone sits on a place i've just smoothed and wrinkles it up again and then calmly strolls away as though a wrinkle couldn't possibly make the world end... (which it totally can) well. i strongly feel that person should be blown up.
Lalalian PRO 11 years ago
Haa haa!!!

Housemate pet peeves include:
* not paying bills and always having an excuse
* talking to me ALL the time about the same things ALL the time... did I mention that it was ALL the time and that they followed me if I walked away (and kept talking)?
* waiting til I went to bed before they started clattering around the kitchen making lunch for the next day... my room is next to the kitchen.

There's more, but it's making me feel angry again, so I shall stop.

I guess the upside is that there's never been a problem with drugs or stealing and selling stuff...
drab chicken [deleted] Posted 11 years ago. Edited by drab chicken (member) 11 years ago
yup. having your stuff jacked blows and blows and blows.
once upon a crime, my sister pawned my jewelry. GOD. what drama.

i just remembered anothered peeve!!!! omg. okay. this would possibly only happen with family members (i would hope) but ... say you're in the shower cheerfully scrubbing away the day's funk, right? and then.. the bathroom door opens. then. well. there's no delicate way of saying this really but .. say this interloper ---as *if* interloping were NOT bad enough, say they POOPED. well. ew. being in the shower and all... makes you a captive audience to that ...

that's just one more example of a bitch needing to be frozen in time and whacked with a stick. it's rude. so very. yeah?

yay for weekends! mine was relaxing to the extreme. my girls and i baked and decorated cookies. ate them. shared some. (mostly we ate them haha). the weekend before valentine's always amounts to a flurry of activity for us. we're a very pink group of girls and really dig the cute heartsiness of this particular commercial holiday.

the *best* activity of the day was dolling up the valentine boxes the kids have to tote to school. we used ribbons and glitter and jewels and paint and omg it was just the most fun ever. there was a hot glue incident i don't really wanna go into -- suffice it to say, i'm relieved that the middle and index fingers of my left hand are no longer conjoined

i have the name and product number of my foundation powder memorized, okay? i've been using it since i was 16 damn years old. i'm an old hat at buying this, is what i'm saying.... so. i glided up to the counter, smiling, awash in the pre-glow that satisfied consumers experience. when. WHEN. i was confronted with incompitence the likes of which i've maybe never seen

still ignorant of their stupidity at this point, i politely ask for Matte Neutral Double Face Powder... which they cannot find. okay... sometimes these people group things by numbers so... i politely suggest they look for 07. ...which again they cannot find. i'm beginning to get irritated and say...

'hi. they're in numerical order. look for SIX .. and it'll be right there

a conversation ensues between no less than 3 beauty sluts. about which drawers to look in. in what order they should search them, etc. i say...

hi. there are only THREE drawers. *each* of you can look *right now*

but. what they decide to do instead is discuss things further. oh and to talk about Jennifer who apparently called in sick. but. Jennifer isn't sick, really. she's throwing up, yeah, but probably because she's pregnant. and did you know that saltine crackers settle a queasy tummy during the first trimester of pegnancy? why lawdy naw i did not know that. well i declare. (pronounced de-clay-uh)

um? LIKE I EVEN CARE ABOUT JENNIFER?? GIMME MY POWDER, BITCHES

in the end, i left without it. my patience expired and i couldn't find management.
heck for all i know Jennifer *was* management
