hello hello. meet glory:
magnolia
1/8/07
poor glory has been defining herself on flickr conversationally since april of last year. without a camera. (poor me!) however ---and gents and dolls, this is a mighty great *however* --- a camera is almost within reach. we're talking two weeks tops, here.

YAY for that. YAY a HUNDRED MILLION TIMES. i am so freaking excited. wee!

so. it's a great time to begin a journal. this way i get to chronical my anticipation from the very beginning to its delightful finish -- complete with what i hope will be awe-inspiring digital images. i dearly love inspiring myself and i look so very cute with my jaw dropped open and my eyes all sparkling and everything. wait and see! xoxo

p.s. HAPPY THANKSGIVING

we were displaced this holiday. most of you don't know that my mother went bonkers, was arrested, then sent to the "clinic" to detox and get sane. my sister assaulted my mother's girlfriend while my mother was in jail and then she was arrested too. ah .. the holidays. they're never boring. although technically this was a few weeks back, i consider it a precursor to the fun they have in store for each other this season

suffice it to say, we did not attempt to have any kind of family gathering together. i do have living grandparents but i disconnected with them long ago. my maternal grandfather is a pedophile and one especially memorable christmas eve he sat one of my little girls in his lap and gave himself a boner we could all see.

he and i had a confrontation, at the end of which i was gasping for air through a crushed larynx. (he didn't get away unscathed --my sister punched him in the face and my mother body slammed him. if you've never heard a septuagenarian hit a hardwood floor full-bodied ... it's sounds like CRUNCH and SPLAT had a gross baby)

so. no family today. instead, we volunteered at the shelter where i had been assigned to Kitchen Duty. woo hoo. but. ...there was no Children's Director so i was given that job by default. WOO HOO. i'm more qualified to play and keep kids safe and happy than i am to cook cornbread. trust me. ...you could drink my cornbread through a freaking straw, if you went for the middle of it. which i don't recommend.

i had so much fun i forgot to eat. hahaha!
Hey, your Thanksgiving dinner sounds a whole lot more cheerful than mine!!!!!
Dragonhide 11 years ago
Oh that certainly doesn't sound like much fun. :P

Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

Your thanksgiving actually sounds great to me- making a difference, and doing something other than eat way too much and then complain about eating way too much....

okay Friday was an emotional day for me. i cried my eyes out in a good way. then fast forward to the afternoon, when i picked up the kids. Ashley is here looking pissed because i said no to a movie. in my defense, we had a movie date planned for SATURDAY so a friday movie just seemed nuts to me the day after Thanksgiving. i said no and i stuck to my no. she's delighted, obviously

apparently ...bananas make me smiley too. i came in early this morning to work hard at something i've gotten behind on. then i got stuck on the phone and in a computer program simultaneously and could not do anything else with either the phone or the computer and i hung up. sucked. so .. i busted out my camera and took pictures of the breakfast i couldn't eat yet. i gave it eyes for fun
Well it was forced-waisted time wisely used

Hahaha I love your last few shots. I think its so sweet that your kids call your dads wife Grandonna, I bet she quite likes it as well. And that pick/necklace is great I have a few guitar playing christian friends who would love one!
drab chicken [deleted] 11 years ago
yeah! i'm stoked! i don't play but my daughter does. she has an electric guitar with an amp which our neighbors are very cool about. i was curious to see if a hole in the pick would make a difference in the grip. it didn't but the density was different than that of the average pick, so it was more fragile feeling.

My Dad- at 83, he still doesn't cuss. he says "GEE WHIZ!" instead.

Years and years into my marriage to Merche (who still speaks with a heavy Madrid accent) , she finally asks me, "Why does your Dad always say Cheese Whiz when he's mad??!!"
drab chicken [deleted] Posted 11 years ago. Edited by drab chicken (member) 11 years ago

conversely, my mother is 50 and she punctuates pretty much every conversation with 'fucking fuck.' and ....she woud swear on a stack of bibles that her dear sweet daughter glory wouldn't utter a curse word

book haul!
my favorite library had their book sale recently. this is my haul. each book was a dollar and i am THRILLED. reading is by far my favorite hobby. i feel like such a lazy bones because the one thing i wanted to do this year was to make an entry in my book journal complete with photo, for every novel read. well ...i'm 13 books behind. this will not prevent me from continuing to read. haha. no way. my pile will just get bigger, that's all!
Dragonhide 11 years ago
Reading novels is something I used to do compulsively.... Nowadays though, I'm so sick of reading for work, plus my eyes get tired and cannot focus....

I need to return to my wanderlust ways... reading a novel on plane, train, auto (preferably not while driving!) is one of my favorite things to do... :)

I miss it.
drab chicken [deleted] 11 years ago
aw. yanno... i'm most excited about Don Juan up there. i've read bits of that story in assorted poetry books but strangely... never the piece in its entirety. which suddenly i am equipped to rectify! WOO HOO!

i fell in love with Lord Byron when i read "They didn't know how hate could burn in hearts once changed from soft to stern" ...i dunno where i got that from --like... which poem, but that single sentence made a real impression on me. after that i read anything with his name on it.

thanks ladies.

i've been down and out for months now. i give the diary thing a good try in spurts, but it is just a good habit that i fell out of after i was assaulted. haven't been the same since.

i think my problem is that this year my diary has been quite personal. i was real in a way i usually am not and that was primarily due to the fact that my regular readers were made up of people whom i trusted.

lately though ... i've nothing good to impart. it's all bad and awful news after bad and awful news. my mood is dark. distancing myself from public outlets seemed wise. this is .. just how i am wired. when life gets hard, i pull away from people and deal with it on my own. then afterwards i join the party again.

i've been accused of sabotaging myself. from the outside it looks like i cut off my support network. but no. on the contrary. this is how i survive. inside of me lives a dependent person. i can feel her breathing. i can hear her crying. i can taste her desperation.

when a situation arises in which i can feel myself wanting to hold on to someone --not because i need help but because i want to be rescued --then i disconnect. i have to stand alone. i'm weak. if a weak person stops standing up on their own... they can become incapable of it. a body can cripple itself. i'm uniquely qualified to testify to this.

it's a-okay with me if no one understands. i'm the one that has to live my life, after all. so i'm gonna do it my way. haha. what a rant!! i guess this was written more regarding offline people than in regards to online peoples. but anyway there's my truth. if you're hungry you are welcome to eat it.

as for 2008, i think i may give that a go. but my approach will be entirely different. my goal is to embrace *small moments*. one a day, with a relevent picture. a way to slow down. yanno? that appeals. i'll get a clean start away from these pages and just see how simplifying things will *redefine* my glorious life. ha.
ho ho ho

I can identify so much with many of what you said. I cannot sort things out in my head if there's so much noise going on around me. Everybody has an opinion, and they all conflict each other, it just sometimes makes things worse. I also withdraw and duck into hiding.. not always physically or online- I just put a gameface on.

I feel you. I miss you though, when you go into hiding, but I understand.

Don't hide TOO long, mm'kay? I've developed a snorking habit too. (Snorking drink thru nose, yanno)
