defining glory in 2007

drab chicken [deleted] says:

hello hello. meet glory:

poor glory has been defining herself on flickr conversationally since april of last year. without a camera. (poor me!) however ---and gents and dolls, this is a mighty great *however* --- a camera is almost within reach. we're talking two weeks tops, here.

YAY for that. YAY a HUNDRED MILLION TIMES. i am so freaking excited. wee!

so. it's a great time to begin a journal. this way i get to chronical my anticipation from the very beginning to its delightful finish -- complete with what i hope will be awe-inspiring digital images. i dearly love inspiring myself and i look so very cute with my jaw dropped open and my eyes all sparkling and everything. wait and see! xoxo

bunæn says:

happened to be at the Twentieth Century Fox studio because it was summer, I was out of school, and my mom was working. So, my dad, thinking I was too immature to stay at home by my self (I was 14 at the time, but was on restriction because I had just gotten caught with a 15 gallon crock of home brew) dragged me to work with him every day to the studio. He was a studio musician at Fox and Disney and MGM.

Oh my god that was boring as hell. My dad, or my uncle Urban (a studio big shot), would point to an executive producer at a sound stage and say, "stay right next to him." Well hell, the executive producer is not going anywhere as long as people are on the clock for his production. So it was just a way of saying "stay put, don't go anywhere, and keep your mouth shut." Or, sometimes I would get hooked up with a page, and just follow him around as he gophered crap.

This went on, on and off, for years, as my mom first went back to college to get her teaching credentials, then taught in the summertime. Most summers I would get to stay with my aunt and uncle and work on the ranch. But when I'd get in trouble (which was often), I'd have to go with my dad to the damn studio.

Oh, I liked talking with the musicians, and the crew guys, but mostly they had to work, and being on a sound stage, I had to keep still and be quiet.

I respected the crew guys, but you wouldn't see many actors. The ones you'd notice were mostly the trouble makers. The ones that smelled funny, were sometimes drunk and were mostly spoiled brats--throwing fits--and this includes grownups.

The studios were really big huge constructions sites. Most of the work involved building, tearing down, and moving sets--both on sound stages and on the lot. So, the main memory I have of the studio is the smell of lumber--and the commissary. That place was a trip.

Cool story though, Buns. I reckon going to work with your Dad would have been better than with mine... He was selling cars when I was a little tacker.

Lalalian- I just LOVE your & your country people's expressions. I really do. "A little tacker"

I know that the midwestern redneck talk that happens around me (I'm not from here...) is probably just as unique to you. But I just wanted to tell you that I'm constantly taking notes. You guys have the best English EVER!

Anyway, when I was a kid going to work-- it meant two things-

With my late Mother it was going to the University with her and help her prepare rock samples to be melted down and measure the chemical properties. Or, help her run the diamond tipped rock saw, or just relax and read some comic books she and I got together at the old fashioned drug-store nextdoor to the University along with REAL Vanilla Coke. My Mom was an University Geology Professor and all.

When it was my Dad- who is a retired commercial airline pilot who would go away for a couple weeks at a time, and then be home for a couple weeks-- he would put me to hard hard manual labor sorting and stacking firewood in the winter. In the summer, I would be running the hay rake to rake the cut hay into rows for him to bail, and then follow behind him and pick up square bales to put up into the barn.

Guess who I liked to "go to work" with? :-)

HSM!
HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL RULED! we watched it friday night. saturday. and part of sunday night --well, brooke and i did. ashley earned herself a week of no television due to what was possibly a case of demonic possession. i dunno. but. anyway.

we went out for dinner and at 6:30 we scooped everything into a to-go box and sped home. i could show you the ticket i got -- my first speeding ticket ever. that freaking officer was so power trippy -- he should so totally have tipped his hat and given me a warning, since i've never been pulled over before. but noooooooooooooo.

at any rate, we arrived home before the first musical number was over and no harm was done. unless you count court costs as harm done, but that's not until sept 27 -- so i will not thinK about it beyond this entry until that time. KISS MY REAR BUMPER, SMYRNA POLICE

like LaM!
i dedicated this one to LaMmiepie, our resident outdoor gypsy. i found this khaki gilligan hat and it sits all floppy on my head, like an outdoorsman's hat! and! i thought i remembered one of LaM's pics being a mirror shot in black and white while she wore this hat. but! now that i've looked through her sets and everything ... haha ... um... i can't find it. so. probably my wild imagination made that up and now my dedication makes a lot less sense out loud than it did in my head

so typical

look what i can do! a lovely old neighbor of mine has been feeding me patterns for months. she haunts my doorway, as i unload groceries and kids and sara the dog. i keep her patterns and all the cross stitching blahdee blah on a stool very near the door which she looks at to check my progress. for the record? i never said i wanted to learn to cross stitch. i don't know where she got the idea that i did

but. look at that pillow. it's effin lovely. i've seen one very very similar to that being sold at cracker barrel --which makes me feel all proud and stuff. aww.

George Michael saved my life... Well, the song "Faith" did.

When I was in my final year of high school we had to do this 4 day hike. That meant 3 nights camping where the wild things live, the loo was a hole in the ground and the only way to bathe was in a spring-fed (read: icy cold) creek.

We clambered our way up hill and down dale and the whole time I had that song running through my head and I reckon it was the only reason I made it back alive. The outdoors and me are not such good friends...

well. susan pitched fits all throughout the day. horrible horrible day. i got hit with the cramps right in the middle of the day--- which does nothing at all for my tolerance level. it all began in the morning before i even got in, when she let herself into my LOCKED OFFICE and started poking around. she decided that we needed to 'clean house' and reorganize our filing system --some of our important files are in my office, some in heather's, some in susan's, and some in bob's --who i don't talk about because bob sucks.

okay. so. she has this great idea about consolidating the filing system--- which is great in theory, except for this little thing called No One Has Room For All Of The Files. she lets herself into my office and begins rearranging things. i walked into that and .. um ... i wasn't gracious about it.

i'd better watch my smart mouth, or one of *my* teeth may fall out. sorry susan. you old goat. baaah

Hey Tim. An Aussie lady nearly got arrested for swearing on a US airline the other day. The thing was that she didn't actually swear.

She asked the hostess for some peanuts and when told there weren't any on board exclaimed "Fair dinkum!".

tead off
dear diary,

it was my first week sleeping on the sofa. i've given up my room for the greater good. brooke and ashley cannot live together any more. i thought that setting them up in the master bedroom -- which is far larger, would be the right thing to do. but. after more than a year here, the walls have pressed in and ...well ... i think brooke said it best when she admitted 'my ears itch when i hear ashley breathe'. the time has come for them to live separately. brooke will cheerfully accept my smaller room if she gets to have my bed too. which is fine.

i've moved my special toy and a couple of other private items into a box on top of my old closet. once upon a time i experienced a total Parenthood moment, when one of the girls asked if they could use my purple flashlight and when i said i didn't have one she brought a slim little sumthin that takes AA batteries and produces no light whatsoever. occasionally it can produce some wicked heat though. hubba hubba. anyway, that was the last day that anything 'special' was left in my bedside table drawer ---i guess slipping it into a sock was not a great disguise after all.

i miss my bed and i miss the DOOR to my room-- not that i ever closed it for long. just when mama needed .. yanno. shut up. but now i feel nervous even *opening* my box. if i made even the slightest noise after lights were out, sara the dog would whimper. gah.

Glory Defined shades her eyes with one hand. The sun beats down on the packed dirt. The thirsty grass shivers dryly in the impotent breeze. It's 110 degrees in Memphis TN and the death toll is up to 17. There are no casualties of the heat in Nashville yet. Glory Defined clicks off the annoying weather report and strolls away, her thumbs hooked through her belt loops.

The girl with no name (with music by Ennio Morricone)

"Glory's diary is the living room where we all sit around and chat and wait for the hostess to come out of the kitchen with her special brand of humor she just baked for us."

How true, that is, LaM, and we've been well-fed this morning, everything from Lala sounding like Jonathan Riverman, Jallen thinking Strine is the highest form of English (fair dinkum!), nice tribute to Gypsy (fashionable those are), cross-stitching talent, and unmentionable discussions about sleeping arrangements (bloody funny, talk your way out of that one), despicable Susan, even more despicable traffic cop.

Come back soon, Glory, we miss you when you're not here.

awwww!!! i got your post cards, sunni! y'all, she sent me 3 post cards from Spain! YAY!! and! AND! i also received one from Rob -- who actually mailed it to jonathan who then forwarded it to me. haha! that post card is literally a tale of two cities in and of itself! ...from the Greek Islands to the little town of digby, then to me. haha! what a riot!

well. i should probably update my diary sometime soon. i'm tres behind. blah blah.

yesterday i did turn 29. a few people have asked me how many times i've been 29. these are stupid people that i've mentally crossed off of my christmas card mailing list. "once, bitches. i've been 29 once," is not the perfect thing to say during praise and worship at church, i know .. and i did somehow manage to resist the wicked urge to shock.

the girls and i went out for breakfast --- i've been feeling self conscious about my face, what with the assualt and all... but. anyway. i sucked it up and went out in public. no one looked at me in horror, so i guess everything's fine. i only *feel* conspicuous --apparently i look alright. so. it's back to real life. until sept 27, which is my court date.

thanks for the birthday wishes and all. y'all are awesome. xoxo
