poor glory has been defining herself on flickr conversationally since april of last year. without a camera. (poor me!) however ---and gents and dolls, this is a mighty great *however* --- a camera is almost within reach. we're talking two weeks tops, here.

YAY for that. YAY a HUNDRED MILLION TIMES. i am so freaking excited. wee!

so. it's a great time to begin a journal. this way i get to chronical my anticipation from the very beginning to its delightful finish -- complete with what i hope will be awe-inspiring digital images. i dearly love inspiring myself and i look so very cute with my jaw dropped open and my eyes all sparkling and everything. wait and see! xoxo

2 and a half weeks
it took me 2 and a half weeks to read this one. which is UNHEARD of for me. i mean okay, occasionally i can read a book for that amount of time, but normally on those occasions the reading material is intellectual or so very beautifully written that i intentionally read slowly in an effort to savor each poetic phrase and emotion. blah blah.

Superstition was a mediocre thriller than had a surprise ending, but was still mediocre. the romance was without heat, the murders were without detailed gore, the characters weren't Real enough. of course, none of those things are the reason why i labored to read and finish this.

partly, it's because it's summer. the kids are out of school and stay up later, which leaves me with company a couple of hours more. partly too i just don't wanna read. when i am alone i mostly sit still. if you saw me doing this, you'd maybe think i was thinking deeply, but you'd be wrong. i'm just being still. no meditation, no daydreaming really, just some stillness. that said, i read 3 books in the month of June --compare that with the 3 books i read in the first WEEK of january
drab chicken [deleted] 11 years ago
7/8/07/

took the kids swimming. been doing a lot of poolside stuff this summer. the girls are nuts about swimming. i don't swim publicly. my body's pretty scarred up in places not covered up by a suit. once upon a time i swam in a tshirt and shorts but that just drew curious looks. a suit topped by a shirt would be okay too, but i don't bother.

i just stay dressed period. the girls accept it. they have me toss my car keys into the pool and then they dive underwater and race to get them. i can still play in my clothes, just not in a wet kind of way. i feel okay about it

rachel
this was my sister in law, rachel. she and my former brother in law live in another state. when they're in town, they give me a call. they love the girls. they love me too --they're the only members of my ex's family who i allow to know my number. we had a visit on this monday.

we talked about books and god and harry potter and steak fries. yeah i'm really not sure how steak fries came up either. i was feeling a little ...hm ... on my guard?, yes i guess that's right. i was pretty sure they would ask me to lift the restraining order on my ex, but nope they did not. i learned he's still in my state but he's not really local to me anymore. this makes me feel GREAT. *almost* safe. and almost is good enough for now.

pinky winky
i hate my job. i'm looking for work elsewhere. every morning i wake up dreading The List. that's what i call it. for about two weeks now i am confronted at the door to the building with susan. she's my boss. before i've even set my bag down, she's verbalizing a list of things i had done from the day before that *she* would have done differently. blah

say what you want about me, but i'll tell you this: i am fucking brilliant at my job. sales isn't even my forte, but i'm doing it and i'm excelling at it. they've just bumped the prices up here and the sales had dropped 25% and now that i'm doing it that 25% drop has been eliminated. not to brag or anything but HEY THAT IS SOMETHING SPECIAL. buuuuuuuuuuuut ... still this is not good enough.

i'm not a quitter and i am *dying* to quit. i hate criticism and scrutiny and i cannot escape it where i am. one time? omg one time? susan stopped me from slipping a letter into an envelope and asked me to fold it the way she folds it. wtf. another time, she asked me to cock the stapler at a certain angle, because she prefers the staples to be *just so*

JESUS GOD IN HEAVEN @ the nit picking. it's STUPID. speaking of difficult women, i've reconciled with my mother a bit. however, she still will not watch my children alone. no offense to her or anything, but she's some kind of crazy and that just wouldn't be intelligent.

recap: susan bad. mom crazy. flower pretty.
xoxo

We like it when a colleague ups the business 25% in the face of rising prices. Send in the app - we'll put you somewhere nice - where the family (ex / present) can't find you and the girls will grow up learning several languages...whattya say ? ANNNNNDDD we don't give a shit how you staple the papers ! (we do however care about the 25%!).

Anyway - good to see you posting. We like it when you do so.

If you'd read more slowly, you could've had Superstition for your Friday the 13th photo!

I haven't gotten into a pool with my son, either--I can't quite squeeze into the rubberized speedo anymore!

Glad to hear he's not so local anymore--I can imagine the little bit of relief you're feeling.

Is there anyone you can talk to about Susan's lack of people skills? Is she the boss? When she tells you how she would've done something, is it the way it should be done according to company standards, or is she just trippin' on her little bit of power?

25 of us have posted in the last day
another dozen within the last week (37)
in the range of a week, there are 40 of us

and there's another 20 who have posted in the last month

some of those are surprising but it gets even freakier to go back into the two month range and beyond...

my biggest hurdle is gettiung through the dreaded vacation bottle neck - damn

brush strokes
i bought a naughty book. it's my second one this year and i feel more ashamed of myself this time than i did last time. i make no bones about reading sexy novels. i think it's fine. but ..there's naughty and there's naughty..

this novel is titled Brush Strokes. feel free to google for it, amazon sells it. on the cover there's a red head busting out of her bra poised to spank the bottom of a girl in a leather skirt. oh yeah. the first page turned me on straight up, so i ponied up the 8 bucks or whatever to buy it

i didn't bank on a power struggle at check out. this lanky geekboy, definitely college aged, checked me out, i slid the book to him face down, where he scanned it. then he flipped it cover side up before bagging it. that part was normal.

okay now i TOLD you what the cover looked like, which is why i (pink-faced) shot forward my hand and flipped it cover side down again. he looked at me and grinned then ... the effing son of a brat flipped it COVER SIDE UP *again* WHILE MAKING EYE CONTACT WITH ME! that part was *not* normal.

god in heaven. i think that may have cured me from buying spank books. in person.

*mortified

i am, at last, back to my bookworm self again. this cheers me. i had been suffering from some kind of pre-depression. i've been dealing with job disatisfaction and maybe even life disatisfaction in general. single parenthood doesn't necessarily have to be a lonely experience, i realize. these feelings i'm combating have almost nothing to do with that, really. in my head, i talk myself in to believing that they do, but they really don't.

i'm lonely because i erect walls between myself and pretty much everyone else. i tend to respond to direct interest with an embarrassed smile and a quick get away. but ...check this out...

my dad's remarried. he and donna (i call her daddy's donna to differentiate her from the 8 other donna's i know) tied their knot on a wed. last month. good for them. and? they'd like my girls to visit them for a weekend. i said yes, as i trust my dad with them. he wasn't an active parent to me, but he's attentive as a grandfather these days

now... and this is quite tentative still ... on the second evening they are gone visiting ... i think i may go out. on a date. it'll be with a friend of a friend (a total set up job) and it'll be the first date of this year for me. big step. big big step.

Accio Conclusion!!! HOORAY! as planned, i woke up at 11:30pm on friday night, drove myself and my kids to our local bookstore and picked up my book. there was a very long line but ...glory defined makes her own line when it comes to harry potter. a pal of mine works there and agreed to take her break as i came in -- i called her from the car. i handed her my ticket and she handed me my book as we hugged hello. it took 55 seconds to squeal hello, thank you, and i love you ---the kids and i were home within 10 minutes of that.

it took me all day, but i read it. i did.

it was great. very great. i am pleased. not everything i wanted explained *got* explained but.. c'est la vie. such is life. i'm not into spoiling things for others, so i've gushed in a way that reveals no great secrets. still though, if you read it too, feel free to contact me for discussion. i'm a bit of a harry pothead and i feel okay about it

Knickers down Glory, you need a spanking!

And that other book, accompanied by a delicious portrait of what looks like a blue-eyed, freckle-faced, sweetly-smiling Hogwarts sex education teacher. I read this morning that they have sold 3 million copies in the UK, and a goodly proportion of those must have sold at airports been to holidaymakers coming to Zakynthos. As I collect my sunbed payments on the beach, I see lots of copies, including a father and daughter with a copy each.

Looking forward to the feedback from all the readers. I personally couldn't finish reading the first book.

And the date - I hope it goes well, and you knock his socks off. It's not by any chance with the checkout guy, is it? Quite useful if he knows your preferences in advance.

You go Glory! Relax and have a fun time, and let us know as much as we need to know on Monday. You really deserve it.

I'll be waiting with a very bright strong light to shine in your face in a very dark room for your return.

You will look gorgeous on the arm of that young man.

I don't think he will consider you easy if you consent to holding hands.

We are all rooting for you and in some secret way wishing we could be that fly on the wall...with a camera of course..."FLYCAM in Operation". Guys ...of course Glory will have her superpowers along for the ride. Always wanted to date a superhero...
