Day one and I almost forgot to take a picture. This is my painfully ugly shower curtain. It fits in with my ugly bathroom. Yes, the thing on the bottom is my tub. What were they thinking when they picked that color?

I ran into Borders to pick up a few books to read while I am in Nashville. I took a quick picture before I entered Penn Station.

I had a few mins to kill before my track was posted. I went to reach for my phone to see what train Patty was on. When I picked up my head she was right in front of me. I was in a talkative mood and it was good to have company for the hour long train ride home.

That's a must do for the next visit.

I am finally able to check in. My internet connection in the office is not working. I finally discovered the computer room at the hotel. You would think that I would have figured it out last fall when I spent a total of 3 weeks here.

The pictures will have to wait until I return on Saturday.

It was actually a good flight here. On time andI was the only person in my row. How often does that happen?

@ Jissy - I am the one who talks whoever I am with to death. I can't sleep on the train, and refuse to allow the person who is traveling with me to get any sleep.

@ Allan - no reason to waste your time at Penn. As far as train stations go Penn is nothing compared to Grand Central. If you must go to MSG don't go watch the Rangers (unless they are losing). I am an Islander fan. :-)

I'll wave on my way home. Think snow! An early snow storm will close the office but may clear up in time for me to leave tomorrow night instead of Saturday.

@ Magpie33 - I do know what you mean. Thanks for thinking of me. I have to take a look at your spider.

Nashville Airport

It was an slightly eventful trip to the airport. I couldn't find a yellow cab. A few black cars stopped but they wanted too much to take me to the airport. Finally I came to an agreement on price. Yippee! I am on my way.

Yeah right.... We turned a corner and the police pulled us over. It turns out it wasn't even a real car service. A foolish move on my part to just hop in any black car offering my price, but I was in a rush (no excuse just the reason). Fortunately while one cop waswriting the tickets another found me a real taxi. Leave it to New York's Finest to quickly do what was impossible for me to do.

The rest of my ride was uneventful. The driver took the back roads and we made it to LaGuardia in record time.

When I arrived in Nashville I went to take the Grayline Shuttle. The woman behind the counter offered to call me when the driver arrived instead of having me wait in the cold. Who's afraid of some Nashville cold? I am a NYer after all.

So I stood outside freezing my ass off because I had too much pride to go back inside. On the plus side I came across this happy little airplane for my 30 Jan photo.

Back in the Nashville office today. I was at the office later than my coworker. I called for the hotel shuttle I was told it was an hour wait.
When I went outside to wait for the shuttle I realized that I was gated in. You can only get out with a car. Fortunately a kind security guard let me out.

As I waited for my ride I went to take some pictures. I couln't find my camera, so I used my phone.

Homeward bound!

I overslept so I didn't have enough time to wander around Nashvile a bit before I went home. I got to the airport early. The flight looked fairly empty so I changed my seat to a row without anyone else in it. Picked up twolittle bears for my nieces. They aresosoft. The 5 year old who is very into texture will love it.

I called my local cab company to arrange for an airport pickup. They changed the policy. They now require that you prepay airport pickups in cash ahead of time (normally they would take a credit card). WTF? No bending the rules for a frequent customer. Since I am never sure how or when I am getting home from the airport, planning that far in advance does not work for me. They just lost a customer. It sucks because I like the drivers, I know they do well with airport runs and I prefer to use someone local. But I also need a pickup I can depend on if I call a few hours in advance.

I thought to call someone to come get me but going to LaGuardia is a nightmare. I don't want to put someone through that unless it was my only option.

My flight arrived early, about 645p. I contacted one of the limo services by the ground transportation booth. A 20 min wait, no problem. 40 mins later I am cold, cranky, and still waiting. One more call assures me that the driver will be right there. And he was. Warm at last! We went to pick someone else up. We waited and waited. I was starting to get pissed, and so was the driver. Eventually she arrived. Her bags had gotten lost. A good reason for holding us up.

I made it home shortly after 9pm. An hour later than expected. I am happy to be back.

In December I had ordered a long down coat. It had been sitting on a chair waiting to be returned because the color was wrong. I thought it was going to be a dark rose (black was out of stock), but it is much a brighter color closer to fuchsia. I am more of a black wearer with red being the only bright color I wear often. Well today I woke up to below zero wind chills. There was no way the jackets I normally wear were going to keep me warm. Knowing that I will never get around to returning the coat, I wore it today. It was toasty! Even though I don’t think the color is me, the coat is a keeper.

Today’s picture was taken at my train station. I was stuck at the office and didn’t make it home until after 10p.

I'm the exact same way! I wear black tops ALOT, with red (dark reds) coming in at a close second. In the summer when I'm not pale I'll be bold and wear yellow. But the color that's starting to grow on me more and more is dark purple :)

The Other Side Of The Fence
msspider66 11 years ago
I love red, but it has to be a true red. Nothing too orange or maroon. I am always pale so yellow is not a common color for me. Dark purple is a good color. Dark green is another color I like.

Other than the fact that I just like darker colors, they are more practical for me. I am on dirty trains and busses for my commute. Lighter colors never look clean by the time I walk into my office.

This is a stuffed spider my goddaughter had given me years ago. I use to take it on my travels. When my niece Kayla was a baby she fell in love with it. I gave her one for her first birthday. Much to the dismay of those who just didn’t get it, Sssssss (as it was eventually named) became her favorite toy. I remember one time in the mall an older woman came over to tell me how cute she is, but backed off with an odd look when she noticed her toy. Oh well.

When she was two she insisted on being a spider for Halloween. You have to admit, she is a cute little spider.

<a href="{Kayla as a spider

Now at the ripe old age of 5 she claims that she too old for spiders. but she has agreed that she will always be my spider baby.

@ magpie33 – Thanks. I have to credit my sister (and brother in law). They are doing a great job of raising both Kayla and her little sister Aly. They are exposed to more than just the latest cartoons.

I don’t think I will ever come to terms with the color of the coat, but I do stand out. Now, is that a good or bad thing?

@ satrina* - I don’t have children of my own. It is a wonderful feeling when she lights up around me. Go see the kids. It will do your heart good.

@ SamRag – He is a cutie! How old is he? He is your cousin. My great-grandmother use to say “we have no one removed from our family” so we never did the once removed cousin thing. I think of my cousin’s kids as second cousins. At family parties everyone is a cousin to each other even if they are from opposite sides of the family. It is just easier when you have a big family.

My goddaughter is actually my cousin. Her mother is my aunt (and my godmother). She is older, already married. Unfortunately we are no longer close.

what 'grammy hell'? do you work on those? any news of "the police" reunion? I'm still a huge 'police' fan although sting seems to get 'softer' ever year...

@ satrina - It does look like a pear. I am indifferent to most pears, but don't try to keep me away from a perfectly ripe red pear.

We all have one of those in our family. They usually marry into it. Try not to let that stop you from seeing the kids.

@ mbauhs - I do travel for a record label. Grammy hell for me is getting everyone there and putting up with the changes. Nothing glamorous. It is just like doing travel for a bank except that I can dress down for work and sometimes people send me cds

I use to love the Police. When I was in high school I insisted on going to see them even though I was so sick I was asleep for most of the show. These days I am totatally over over Sting. He bugs the hell out of me. But I may watch for old times sake.

@ llanThinks - It is an interesting plum but it totally suits the person who had it.

It would be such a let down if the Police come back as has beens,

@ Jissy - Most of my coworkers have been working together for a long time (for our industry).. I am still a newbie after over a year and two months temping. We sit on top of each other and there is no privacy. As a result we tend get very involved in everything. It is both a blessing and a curse. In the case of my picture a day, it is a good thing.

@ AliThinks - I was fortunate when it came to concerts. My dad worked security at the closest arena. I started going to concerts before I was in 7th grade (Andy Gibb). The only show I remember my parents saying no to was Pink Floyd's Wall tour (I was in 8th grade). On the downside I was always well behaved at shows since too many people knew who I was , I couldn't get away with much,

My younger sister Carlene and my darling little nieces. Kayla (5 years) is on the left and Aly (3 years) is on the right.

It was a long but fun day. My sister Carlene picked me up and we took the girls to dance class. Aly’s class was first. The three year olds were priceless. We were only able to watch the class through a small window. Each time Aly caught my eye she would stop and give me a huge smile. Carlene left to get her hair done before class was over. If she would have waited there would be no way Aly would let her leave without her. Kayla was happy because I let her play with my camera.

After class it was quite comical when I was trying to get her dressed. I was able to talk her out of putting her sneakers on before her pants but she insisted I put the sneakers on her feet. My comment “You aren’t Cinderella and can put on your own shoes” got a few chuckles out of the other moms. She put the shoes on the wrong feet, but that was an easy fix.

During Kayla’s class I let Aly take pictures too. She took a fairly good one of one of the people waiting.

www.flickr.com/photos/msspider66/386007096/

Kayla was very serious during her class. I couldn’t catch her eye; she was concentrating too hard on her steps.

Afterwards we went to visit my aunt in the nursing home. We stopped to get flowers and a huge Valentine’s Day balloon. My aunt is unable to speak and must a letter board to communicate. Kayla was very happy to use her beginning reading skills to ask my aunt all those critical questions, like what her favorite color is. The girls are use to visiting my aunt. They say hi to the residents in the hall. They are fairly well behaved but they get bored. We try to keep the visits to an hour. Enough time for them to charm, but not enough time for them to get cranky.

We moved onto a late lunch at our favorite Mexican place. Unfortunately my sister was driving, so it was my job to drink the pitcher of sangria I ordered. I couldn’t let it go to waste. It was after lunch time and before dinner. The place was empty. We took silly pictures without disturbing any other diners.

On the way home I gave them the last of the Kinder eggs I picked up in Berlin. They are chocolate eggs with small toys inside. The girls love them. It seems that American children can not be trusted not to swallow the capsule with the toy inside so I have to get them when I go to away. Oddly, my nieces (Americans) have no problem figuring out what is chocolate and what isn’t. I’ll restock my supply in Madrid next month.

Finally I arrived home, completely worn out.

@ AllanThinks - It is a shame that people refuse to be for their own actions. It is so much easier to sue than to take responsibility. I guess they see it as an easy way of getting money. In the long run it costs everyone.

I am not going to get into it now. I am trying to stop my thumb from bleeding so I can do laundry. I grabbed a razor the wrong way. .I could sue the razor company for making the razor. I could sue my apartment management company for having the laundry room close at 9pm making me rush to get the wash done before the Grammys, I can sue CBS for having the show on at the wrong time. If I get enough money I willbe able to pay someone to do my laundry. Nah, I'lljust admit I should have looked before I grabbed and do it myself.

11 Feb 2007

My life is too exciting for words. I over did my usual Sunday night laundry today because I may be out of town next week.

Still debating on if I am taking the trip. I am going to see a friend that I feel a bit more than just friendship for.

Almost three years ago, after much internal debate, I made my feelings known. I did it with the promise to myself that I would still be able to remain his friend if my feelings weren't returned. He said he was flattered but... in my mind it was a thanks but no thanks. We were able to stay friends but it was quite frustrating to live like brother and sister when he came to visit. He hasn't been up here for a long time.

This trip was my idea. I am not forward (or rude) enough to invite mysellf to stay with him. So I am getting a hotel (comp I hope). My excuse was that I needed a hotel stay that was not work related. Those who know me know I need a "hotel fix" every few months. He seems happy that I am coming.

This trip is for me. If there is still no spark on his side it is time for me to give up. I think I am still debating over the trip because I am fairly sure what the result will be.

@ Satrina* - Actually the response I expect is the one I don't want. I just need to give it one more shot before I move on.

no kinder eggs?? ok anyone who's never had a kinder egg can email me with a postal address and i will send you some. for serious. my cousin and her colleagues all have little collections of all the toys on their desks at work. as a collective exercise it looks quite hilarious.

i hope you enjoy the hotel fix regardless of how things go with your friend.

@ Magpie33 - Satrina guessed right. Kayla's work is on the left and Aly's is on the right.

@ 'stee - I love Devil Ducks. I have a glow in the dark one in my bathroom.

It started to snow this evening! Even though it is February I had the song "Silver Bells" going through my head. This picture of the Empire State building from 34th street between 7th and 8th Aves, According to the website the colors are for the 131st Westminster Kennel Club Show.

I'm in upstate NY and we're getting a nice snowfall up here too! So beautiful!

How far upstate? Are you up by Oswego? Anything north of the Bronx is upstate to me. You are lucky. We are only expecting 1-3 inches on Long Island. It will eventually turn to rain. My hopes for the snow to stop train service into the city are dashed. Guess I'll be at work tomorrow,

it's not snowing here :(
msspider66 11 years ago
We had a little bit of snow, but more sleet and freezing rain. Everything is slushy at the moment. The temps are going to drop tonight. Tomorrow should be an icey mess. Times like this make me happy that I don't drive.

It snowed here...or iced anyway. I have to admit, i watched the Westminster show on TV last night. I always pull for the Clumber.

I am not a fan of dog shows. If I had a dog it would definately be a mutt from the pound. Unfortunately I am not in a position to commit to being owned by a dog.
