Hi, there...

You will surely get a award at Cannes for the David and Goliah story, very good.... and your friend Lars has a very nice smile, I like when conversation changes in every sip of our drink, nice day.

Everytime I come here, I learn something new, or see something I already know very well written and you did it again, wrote something I will try to keep in mind: "Take a moment and listen to your internal advisor...", great wise words.

Coming home to our place with our beloved ones is always something to look forward to, glad you're with the one you love, have a very nice and peaceful time.

My internal advisor seems to be self-defeating these days so I try not to listen too hard. I tend to listen to bird song instead--or Corsican music. Me and the internal advisor just butt heads and/or go around in circles.

I love the portrait of the solitary man in a crowd of people. I think we all feel like that many times, alone even when we are with friends.

Then other times, when we are alone, we feel the comfort of being with our best friend. :D

The back view provided some interesting reflections from the lights further down the square...but the face of this subject was what I wanted - he was really in a state of concentration about something. He is indeed mysterious !

Beer at it's artisianal best ! Not too heavy, not too bitter and really all business !

You are right - the real nutrition was to the soul when I arrived home...

Blondes - Brunes - and an occaisonal Amber...thank you sir !

Bella - Emotions are to wallow in !! Why go half way ?? Thanks for the comments and stopping by...

Lars and I are business colleagues but we seldom droll on about business - we like to talk about nothing and everything...changing with each sip. It pleases me limitless that you find something of value here...words or photos - they are in reflection...thanks for coming here.

Advisors are here just to provide us with a calibration point for our own true opinions / actions. We don't have to agree or even like what they say...we are also free to change at will or even fire them ! Perhaps birds are offering better advice these days - listen. From my own point of view I prefer my own company often - in fact require some "me" time every day ! Your last comment is my mantra reworded...thank you for confirmation.

To everyone who visits and comments here - thank you for donating your time and energy to me and my slice of opinion...

Where am I ?
30MAR07 - CollardGreens

Where am I ?

From somewhere deep, I hear voices and strange noises. Senses awaken sharply - a long, serious and quiet breath (so as not to make a sound). Move your eyes and not your head - listen harder - command your active senses to maximum sensitivity. Smell - is there something familiar? Touch - what is different here ? Taste - test the air...is it familiar? Listen - is there approaching danger ? Finally - Look...our sense of sight will fail us long before any of the other senses do and it will lie to us first...don't believe what you see - concentrate on the other 4...what do they say. Flight or Fight...which is the first reaction now? Which will it be? Act now - don't delay - GO!

For those of you who travel - there are boatloads of pleasures concerning the new sights, sounds and experiences - you know the pleasing nature of making the effort.

For those of you who have experienced the more serious side of military travel - there are the mornings like this one...flash awake - senses on full alert - the noise of your heart loud enough to give your position away - 5 questions cycle through your mind at the speed of thought - action assessment...flight or fight...if flight what route fastest and most rapid? If fight - who / what is the closest threat ? Then - concentrate...what action ? If you pause too long you are at risk... Wait ! - sanity check - recalibrate - don't act too fast...ask the question - Where am I?

Slow - quiet breathing - ok - hotel room - what city ? OK - no immediate danger...another quiet breath - followed by another. What happened ?? Why am I on high alert?? Then the sound fades and becomes recognizable - a motorcycle in the distance...sure sounded like a helicopter a few seconds ago...

Our bodies are amazing machines and we have so many security systems built in...flight or fight is one of them. When activated by a jolting pulse of adrenalin it is a force to recon with. Now what do I do? Solidly awake and searching for calm - the ceiling comes into view - remember sight will lie to you...what is it? - where is it? Oh just shadows on a hotel room ceiling - no danger...better take a photo of this one - remember to forget.
When we are born we forget what we always knew. When we awake in the morning, after being in the reality of our dreams, we must find again that person we have become.
The shadows are there--I like that they are they are colorful ones rather than just black and white. Shows how bright your world is.

Excellent abstract shot, and one has to read the whole story/reminiscence to learn just what it is. So, the military experience and instincts never fade? I think I recognised this in my Dad, whise experiences in WWII shaped his life for ever after.

I have been away for a couple of days in the Loire Valley regaining a calibration of who, what, when and where - I already calibrated why...

Interesting viewpoint - I have heard this philosophy in the past - don't remember where or when but am trying to remember...dreams for me are in vivid colors and multiple languages normally. Yes - remember to forget...

Always on the move...sometimes you get a certain fatigue from it but it is easily recovered. These shadows are on the ceiling of every hotel room - you only have to open the curtains a crack and watch the show ! Thanks for stopping by.

Spread your wings - concentrate a bit and you will find that flight is obtainable. Stay low on the first few voyages until you get control...thanks for the visit.

Rob, they fade but never evaporate... there is hope ! We try to do everything with a certain gusto - otherwise, why do at all ? I'll circle by later - thanks for recognizing.

Yes sir - it does come in a brune - and is well worth the search. I don't take this one in the summer as it is a little heavy for hot weather but this time of year it is excellent ! Thanks for coming around.

Where is the Celebration ?
31MAR07 - CollardGreens

Where is the Celebration ?

Ever wander upon the remains of a celebration and feel a little left out because you were not there? Who was invited? What was celebrated? Were there special costumes involved? Were there games with prizes? Did someone famous show up? Details man - give us details ! This is someplace that we would like to have been !!

Ever know someone who seems in celebration every day ? Each time you meet them, they exude happiness like a perfume? Makes you want to be near them just because it feels good ! There is a celebration in each of us - everyday...complete with confetti ! Complete with dancing, music and merriment ! Send out invitations, put on your party hat and blow on the silly horn. Bring the celebration inside you to the surface and welcome those around you to festivity. Put on that happy face and watch the reaction !

Here we have the after party remains of a sort of Carnival for Kids. Saturday in Amboise - we missed the actual celebration but that didn't matter - we were celebrating inside !! The weekend getaway with a couple of good friends after a week of hard business. The sky was fresh, full of big puffy clouds and a certain color of blue. Welcome to our party !!

There will be other photos on the photostream today or tomorrow as I sort through them - but this photo represents our happiness...

Cloud Factory

Ever wonder where clouds come from? Why a cloud factory of course !! They are scattered throughout the world - some make great huge clouds that rumble and roar...some make thin high ones that cover like a linen veil...some go into high production in winter and cover us like a duvet...and then there are the tiny "home brewed" clouds that puff out a certain brand of welcome cloud. Here in Amboise on the celebration of "Poissons de Avril" this little cloud factory was in low production of high quality puffy pieces of perfection...more to follow !

Leaving on a Jet Plane
02AVR07 - CollardGreens

Leaving on a Jet Plane

This evening we spent some time in preparation for my wife's springtime trip back to florida to visit family and friends. The family has a little citrus grove next to a small pan lake in central florida. Her parents live there full time - they like it and seldom leave. They have given the small plot a name: Pleasure Grove. It certainly is that. The life there is simple but good. Nothing too fancy in accomodations but arms that welcome even strangers. They have worked hard and endured much - this life is their reward. We would never ask them to leave it to visit us - so we make the trip happily.

I'm a little sad at the thought of her leaving but I know that she will come back in due time...full of the celebration made in the company of loving parents, good friends and with the scent of a certain perfume made only in Pleasure Grove. Safe Journey.
I have always said "live for the luxuries, the necessities take care of themselves." Life is a luxurious, magical journey if we celebrate each moment--both the grief and the laughter.

Ted, Gipsy, a friend used to say "Don't sweat the small stuff", and we'd discuss that for hours into the small hours of the morning. I always maintained that it's the details that make the difference, and we could never agree on where the boundary was between "small stuff" and "details".
Gipsy, I have a lot of difficulties celebrating the grief, but I definitely agree with you that life is a luxurious, gorgeous, unique journey.

ParaScubaSailor en voillage (prononcez voyage, petits voilleurs)...
Maybe it is because I am Portuguese and the Portuguese national character is that "they love to be sad". Think of fado--(or even flamenco, or Greek rembetica, or Corsican polyphony, or Mississippi Delta Blues, etc), that is the celebration of grief--immersing yourself totally into what you are doing whether it is the simple task of keeping your daily photo journal or the tears that come with the loss of someone or sailing on the heights of joy.

In or Out ?
03AVR07 - CollardGreens

In or Out ?

When I was a child - or rather that should read "bad child" - my mother would sit me in a corner of the room on a small stool (facing the wall). This was suppose to be a time for thinking about what I did and why it was not a socially acceptable behavior. Probably we all have had a moment in this environment.

I would not think at all about the bad behavior - I would think about anything BUT the bad behavior. I would let my mind play games and wander freely. One of the views was to look straight up the wall at the intersection of ceiling and two walls. This point would change between IN and OUT in an optical illusion. Focus on the intersection and let you brain go slack for a moment and you will see what I mean.

Today for me was much like this intersection (not important to explain why) - is it a corner or a corniche ? A pit or a pyramid? In or Out ?

I choose pyramid !

LastLight-ChampsMars

The sun is staying around long enough for me to come home and have a walk - all in daylight !! This is great news because it means PICNICS are near ! At the moment the weather is not very springlike - cold and windy...BUT when sping/summer is in full swing this is the place to be at sunset. In summer you won't have light like this until around 23h00 - by then the picnic has been in full swing for 2-3 hours.

You see in Paris there is very little in the way of air conditioning so in the hot months we go to the park with parma ham and melons, cool rosé and a blanket. It is common to stay at the park till midnight or after and then - only then do you come home to the cooled apartment. Parks in paris were laid out for this ! So I present you hopes for a soon to be picnic in "LastLight-ChampsMars"

OutsideAtNight

When warmer weather comes around the doors come open at the restaurant below our apartment. With the opening of the doors come the late night crowd. Each night a different set of voices / languages, discussing the days events or laughing while taking a beverage of choice. Most nights it is a pleasant background along with the city noises. Most of the visitors don't even realize they are part of our noise titer...these gentlemen included. In a couple of weeks the restaurant will begin dinner service out here and then the real fun starts...the tables extend further into the street area so the view of guests is better from our vantage point. It is my plan to capture a photo per day while it lasts. We'll see if it is interesting at the end of summer ! Here we go...

Gee, lots to catch up on here, and good stuff. Loved the whimsy of the cloud factory, was too busy concentrating on the optical illusion and admiring the symmetry and simplicity of the picture to notice what dirtier minds immediately did, but did appreciate it once my attention was drawn to it. Although I checked one of my pics to confirm that the real thing is far more generous and curvaceous:-)

Open Night Window

Makes me crazy sometimes...just beyond this window is a street full of life and things going on. I love it. In the winter we just crack the window to let a little air in to sleep better. In the warmer weather we open them fully at night and the sounds come into the bedroom - the energy is clear. I want to be out there all the time - afraid I will miss something fun I think ! I allow the sounds to invade my sleep - often at the cost of not enough sleep. Last night that happened and I was a zombie all day - synapses not having the proper chemicals to process thought. I will not close them tonight - but I will listen less. Even now the window is calling...but sleep will win !

As long as it's nothing like the bad '80s movie with the tagline:
Just because Jonathan's fallen in love with a piece of wood, it doesn't make him a dummy.
(Doesn't that make you gag just a little?)

Where I get my hair cut

Where I get my hair cut

As I was posting this it occured to me that it was Friday the 13th ( duh Ted you just typed it in !) This post has nothing whatsoever to do with Friday the 13th. I had not good nor bad luck today - in fact I had no stress at all as well - better yet.

This evening as I went out for the nightly constitutional I passed by a favorite in the neighborhood. I need a haricut....this place cuts men's (and only men's) hair. Ladies, this is a real salon for men (as opposed to a salon for real men!). They do not cut women's hair and they serve whiskey while they cut yours. I like that !! A place where a little testosterone is in order. You can't see it but the walls are covered with travel maps and photos of the ladies that live there. So perhaps it is good marketing, or just a respite for a gentleman to get a bit of grooming...in any case the shop does well and always has a spot open to a regular...I like the place and I tend to whistle happily when I leave (could be the whiskey)....so.

This is not a men's club or anything like that...it is just that they specialise in men's hair fashion and when I leave, I feel presentable...nuff said.

There used to be a place "just for men" in San Diego (Pacific Beach)--I forget what it was called, but I remember the stylists wore bikinis or lingerie, they served beer, and you got to hold the t.v. remote! I never got my haircut there (it was during one of my shaved-head periods), and it was gone before I knew it.

just stopping by to say hi and do a bit of catching up on your thread. (still need to catch up on my own, but i'm getting there!) that salon definitely looks both cozy and classy. and the fact they serve whiskey is a nice touch. if i were a man, i'd get my hair cut there too :-) Do they only cut hair or can you get a shave there too?

I've heard of those places...this one is a bit more traditional. Just for men - run by men - obviously decorated by men - not a vulgar place at all but one where you don't have to avert your eyes !

You can indeed get a shave there. I have never done so because I have seen too many westerns at the movies where the bad guy gets the straight razor held to his throat...straight razors are the stuff of nightmares for me...I have to hold my breath and grip the chair when the shave my neck after the cut !! Glad you dropped by.
