Haven't you heard? Corny is back in vogue !! Thank you - of all the shots we took on this last trip, "Passing Inspiration" is my favorite...

Yep, I'm back with the living although I left for a couple of days to take a... "trip"

Anyway, I love the contrasting colors in this last one, I don't know much sign language but one of the branches -in the right side- is saying: I feel so naked. My favorite of this last ones is Passing inspiration, the girl's expression is great.

Glad to hear you're having a nice trip.

Lock the Door

Back from the road trip - taking it VERY easy today. Was suppose to go visit with the meetup group but the wife's cough and fever made the choice about where to be easy. Home - behind a locked door - videos - ok, a sip or two of the chablis we brought back as well.

Good medicine...

Orchid Orchestra

Back to work today...hundreds of emails, blah balh bhal

Here we have a shot that a friend at work has been pointing me towards for some days. Tried it with just natural light and no good. Then with strobed underlight - better I think.

New techniques are afoot as we listen to the Orchid play it's song.

Right Tool for the Job

The Right Tool for the Job

Mid week and work has it's necesary demands on time. The weather today is a cooler form of grey and we even had a little snow this morning. So indoors it is. Stayed at the office for this shot as the necessary tools were there !

The famous Swiss toolmaker produced a special edition knife that included some 80 tools...really over the top ! I saw this one in Munich and simply could not resist ! I have nearly cut my fingers off each time playing with it !!

To be a gadget freek is not an easy thing. Those of us who have the sickness MUST have that next new toy...I think that is why I like photography so much - it allows me to play with the toys that we couldn't have as boys and at the same time perhaps produce something pretty !

I'll check into the 12 step program tomorrow - I promise... * NOT !!!

I'm a crafter too, I've been thinking about mixed media projects -- things to do with my photography -- that's an interesting idea. I have to get on that new year's resolution that i had to better use my free time (that means less time spent viewing and commenting and posting on flickr -- it's quite addictive, i know i don't have to tell any of our group that)

Addictive it is...we have to practice "safe flickr" !!

I do like to play with things prohibited !! 80 Brands of Chocolate???

Yeah - I can't keep it with the other tools ...gives them blade envy !!

We have an informal "gadget wars" going on in our company. Entries come from all over the world...I have to be careful with this one's power - could kill all the initiative !! Thanks to all for the visit...

5th Feb shot is nice, and I like the under-lit orchid as well.

I can't get over that army knife. I mean, really. What the hell is on that thing? Here's what you need: knife. bottle opener. corkscrew.

OK, needle nose pliers are handy. And a file. And a mini scissors. And a screwdriver (of course phillips and flat-head). Tweezers would sure be nice too.

Magnifying glass?

Garage door opener?

Porte de la Bourdonnais

We moved to Paris on a 3 month trial contract 8 years ago...my wife and I arrived carrying 2 suitcases and no french language. We stayed in a hotel near to this door for 6 weeks until we found our first apartment, also within sight of the door. We live here now only a few minutes walk from this door. Tonight was the first night I ever bothered to look at it. Such a beauty - the deco angles, swirls and color.

The photo brings me to think about all the doors that present themselves to us in our journey. Some open easily, some are tightly locked, some need discovery. Tonight I discovered another door.

Really !! I never expected the demand for open knife blades !! So..that means there is a little geek freak in all of us...?? Ok, I'll do it over the weekend.

To answer the questions about navigation - here it comes...I didn't get any navigator inside the knife because I already have a wrist watch satellite navigator ...yes that proves the gadget freak confession. Yes - also a navigator in PDA format, portable car format, and am working on one that can connect to the camera (so I can remember EXACTLY where the photo was taken - no kidding).

Gaz Carbonic
11FEV07 - CollardGreens

Gaz Carbonic

After a night of playing with bubbles in the form of champagne, I thought this might be a good theme for the day.

This is a special glass making technique developed in southern france. Into the hot glass mixture a dry chemical is introduced...when the temperature is just right the chemical erupts into CO2 and these bubbles are formed and quickly cool into all sorts of glass kitch.

The photo appears slightly out of focus even though great patience was taken to get the interior edge of the bubble in focus - so there we go - Gaz Carbonic !

Chained to the Pole...

One more thing to like about french life - a perfect disregard for stupid rules. "Of course you can park here - see I did it !" might come the response if asked "Why do you park here ? It is forbidden !" Of course the rule is stupid - there is plenty of room and it is so near the cafe...

Frère Jacques has left in my safe keeping one 50mm / f1.4 lens that is wicked at capturing in low light and further has a razor thin depth of field. So what do I do ? She writes the play
16FEV07 - CollardGreens

She Writes the Play

Last evening we went to a "reading", actually a second reading of a play in progress. A reading is where the author presents the play in concept and script to a test audience - actors actually read the script as it would be played on stage. This is followed by some light eats and drinks - then the fun begins. The audience then comments, criticizes, analyzes and in general second guesses the author on her intent etc.

As this was my first reading to attend I didn't know what exactly to expect. I didn't expect to be as entertained as I was - it was good entertainment. I didn't expect the play to be in english - this is Paris damnit! I didn't expect there to be so much analysis - a play is where you go to be entertained (granted the audience consisted of other authors and artists - present company excluded). I didn't expect the apartment to be so large - there was a baby grand! I didn't expect that I would have any useful opinions to offer - I thought Maria did it on purpose (Maria is a character) and this was a fresh and soon dismissed opinion.

Life is good - (no one shooting at me and I don't have to dig a ditch) . Life is fun - I love it when my expectations are foiled and I like it.

So for Friday - I submit "She Writes the Play" , the author herself in the midst of listening to comments made on her play.

Living in a big city has it's ups and downs...anyone who lives in one can tell you. BUT ! One huge advantage is the night life... We go out regularly - most of the time relatively low key. Tonight an expatriate friend from Asia was visiting and we went out to eat at a local traditional french restaurant. This calls for some dressing up of course!

Now there have been a few shoe and boot shots floating around in the other diaries (Rome and San Diego come to mind)...right ?

So - here, tonight, live and in person - I give you one of my reasons for liking women's shoes. Not that I have a REAL fetish for them mind you - just an incredibly strong appreciation for the way an elegant pair change the form and function of a lady's motion. The heel sets the posture, the swivel of the hip and most importantly the pace of the evening...gotta go !
