Been contemplating about whether or not to start this project for over 3 weeks now - just due to the intensity of having to keep a camera every single day! But then today is the 4th of Jan 07 and funny that I have taken a pic each day this year- so maybe it's a sign ...... here we go 2007 in Pictures!

Never flied first class, sounds like a great thing to do! Especially when the flight is so long. It might be dangerous to fly comfy though cos Im already spoiled and wont travel far with a car or bus. Imagine if I start flying first class only! :p
Hope doctors find out what the pain is all about and make it disappear.

lol--- who says $$$ cant buy :-)?

coming home was business class and i was thinking - blech such a down grade... flying economy is just gonna suck now! he he!

This morning i went for my ultra sound scans without giving too much detail some were rather uncomfortable... but its over and done so now fingers crossed the results come out!

I decided to try my hand at maintaining a still hand, so chose this hand painted vase as my object. This was take 15 out of 19 and can you believe it the only non blurry one... i even tried the non breathng technique... oh well one is better than none and prac makes perfect!

Off to the theatre to watch Rafta Rafta, hopefully a good cheery-uper ;-)

Hello Jissy - I drop by from time to time and look in...you do good work. A suggestion for the shot above and your attempts to "remove the fuzz". Try this - just like a sharpshooter - slowly press the shutter button,,,so slowly that the shot is a surprise...I find this helpful as my camera is a little heavy. Also maybe a monopod or walking stick may help to remove some...just my 2 cents... good stuff here -

i like

I saw this while waiting at the station to come home, and made me think of a Flickr friend who was once starting a typography group - where two signs could make a new meaning, but i didnt join the group at the time, and now i finally found a pic to add to it, and forgot the name of the group! well i thought it was funny!

After snapping this up the Dr called, whilst on train... test results are back, all clear, no probs. fine and dandy, healthy, she thinks it couldve been a once off, maybe related to stress...??? oh well i seem to be feeling better so hopefully it'll be all right!

Busy evening, calling home, home calling me, calling friends, friends visiting- all at the same time! huge deliverable due early tmrw morning so will save shower and commute time by working from home ;-)

Woweee what a day!!!

Managed to wake up early the deliverable was submitted in time but today was def a day for firsts! We had a new cleaner come in, I miss our last helper who is on a looong vac in Brazil! Also a first to try out new beautician, and also a first for shopping for a dress to wear to a wedding TMRW- in get this.....35 mins flat! not counting the 10 mins i was locked in the change room with two other customers!

It was such fun, we hired a car for the weekend to get to the wedding, but equally fun to ring up to collect me from the bus stop, to quickly- pop in to friends and best of all- pick up take out!!!

Woke up fairly early for our road trip! drove all the way to Crewe, managed to check into our hotel JIT for Hubby to catch the FA Cup Final! I painted my nails and snoozed- yup it was a boring game!

Woke up a few hours later wedding dressing routine:
- shower
- dry hair
- do make up
- straighten hair
- finishing touches n make up
- iron pashmina shawl
- check which jewellery + bag matched best

Off we went to the a beautiful manor house, to celebrate a colleauges wedding! Here is bride, enjoying breaking it down on the dance floor!

This was a funny day, our little proj team was going out to celebrate the end of a big phase, at a Tapas resturaunt in Richmond! Whilst waiting for our table at the bar, a man with a big bag approached us and said he was hired to take pics of our team for the night!

Ok weird (yes I was secretly checking out his equipment) so it was weird sitting with colleagues and clients, trying to enjoy the evening and someone taking pics of us! I think at the end we were camera tired- so my hastily taken pic of the day....the wall i viewed all night!

2 -1

Today i got home early enough to set-up for the big game! We had friends coming over to us to watch the Final of Champions League (Hubby's team was in it).

So I got our flat cleaned up, prepared all the delicious snacks (even took out my 3 tier cake stand) we took the frames off the wall, moved all the furniture, set up an overhead projector and watched the game on our wall!

Was really funny how many times we found ppl on the street huddling outside our window to peak at the score or catch a bit of the game!

Unfortunately Liverpool lost and our hm was somewhat in mourning!

vanilla ice cream & bar one choc sauce

A brilliant day spent indoors:
- woke up late
- hubby made brekkies
- i made bookings for us to a spa retreat in the countryside for tmrw
- downloaded picasa to manage my pics
- played some monopoly
- made bar one hot choc sauce for vanilla ice cream
- napped all afternoon
- woke up did some flickr
- read in bed
- slept again

sigh the perfect way to spend a day indoors!

OK Jissy, I have now worked through the whole thing from the beginning, with lots of interruptions, so it's taken a while. I really enjoyed this slice of your life, you take great pics (especially since you got the D80 - what lens do you have on it?), and you document your days thoroughly and entertainingly. You are a hard-working lady, so well done on maintaining the discipline, and I'm glad to see that you and I share the good old SA habit of relaxing with friends and a dop or two. Having spent a fair amount of time in London myself, I enjoyed all your station pics, Wimbledon and Wagamama, London architecture, and most especially your trip home. Thanks for giving our Rainbow Nation such a good plug.

Finally, nice to see so many of my MDPD2007 friends are regular visitors to your diary. See you again soon.

I just realised i did indeed take a pic on the 22nd- on the bus over waterloo bridge, view of the River thames but wiht my ole sony and for some reason the pic wasnt registere! blech! oh well it wasnt meant to be! Yup Hubby is a huge fan of Bar One Chocolate sauce so he picked up a few bars on the way home from the local SA store- savouring home- always yum!

followed by a good few days away relaxing the absolute best!

WOWWEE! u worked thru the WHOLE diary!!! U deserve an award for that! Thank you- I've flattered! I didnt realise u had a diary stream too, will have to look it up and peak thru your year ;-)

I have the 18 x 155mm lens- in fact bought it with the camera so need to invest in a few more!

Hard working- hmm being tol more and more these days that's its an addiction more than a discipline, need to start maintaining that work life balance a bit more! ha ha @ the dop with mates- comes with the SA genes- and off course the braaing as well!

I am so in love with SA - how could i not do my utmost best to showcase the beautiful country- that has given me so much!

bubbly on a rainy day

Woke up today and packed- yuppee we going away for a two-day spa treat in the country side! This morning Hubby gave me a little gift he thought I'd like (an IR remote for my camera) so I tested it out on the train on route - if you interested here's me testing it out!

We reached our destination and it was rainy outdoors, so settled in for an afternoon of champagne drinking - def the highlight of my day!

Dover Castle

Today I celebrate two blisfull years of being married to the most wonderful man I have met! The sunshine this morning tempted us to spend the day outdoors so we rescheduled the spa treatments for tomorrow, and headed off to Dover Castle - so here's how it all went:
- we got there and it became grey and cold
- called the cab to take us back to get warmer clothes
- changed to warmer clothes an back to the castle
- got to the castle and it started raining
- our camera battery had died
- my sony battery died
- children were crying all around us
- it was miserable
- so we walked around indoors
- headed off to the first coffee shop we saw - for warmth and cake
- decided to can the whole castle thing
- headed back to find out if spa treatment is still an option
- not a possibility hmm now what next
- hotel gives as an upgrade to a suite - not too bad
- we move our belongings
- change to swin gear
- sit in jacuzzi
- relax in sauna
- off to the steam room
- back to jacuzzi
- back to room
- champagne in tub for hours reminiscing about the years gone by
- get ready for candle light dinner
and sigh it turned out to be the perfect way to spend the day- doing nothing, drinking and celebrating!
Simon-K 11 years ago

31 May 2007

I planned to go into the office and actually do my work today- as it's jsut piling up from being on leave and sitting in a workshop all day yesterday, to my utter dismay- the project manager called us in for a four hour planning meeting (which apparently was scheduled months ago but not reflected in my diary) I was gutted- and made it quite obvious that i was not happy to be spending time meeting AGAIN today! Think I was a bit harsh and soemtimes confrontational with the team- during a break i grabbed a blueberry muffin and tea think it calmed me down a bit- and got it- the afternoon spent having 'conversations' with various people to share and gather ideas fir my new pieces of work.

I got home and decided to utilise extended summer daylight to the best of my pic advantage...also need to start really learning diff modes on my camera- so some advice from Collard and tried another still life- the object for today- Wooden tulips from one of the many trips to Holland!
Jissy 11 years ago
1 June 2007

So due my last two wasted days at work- i decided to work from home today- that way i can actually get my work done- good try but still i had people conf calling me all day- at least the disruptions were planned- and no opportunity for people to call me into hours worth of meetings! I had to develop two strategies for two completely different parts of the project so being able to pace around my house, talk out loud helped me to do the thinking i needed- feeling confident for monday- fingers crossed its what they want- clients can be real tough in this game-

so enuff about work, at the end of the day- pleased with the outcome from yesterday's still life i decided to try another today- hmm not too bad... at least the steadiness is improving!

Hubby brought home Pirates of the caribbean 1 and 2 so we started watching the first one- and moments later i was zzz-ing soundly!

- all our friends are at the bar
- after the game we decided to picnic at wandsworth park

white layered

last night i went to bed real early as an attempt to make up for lost sleep over the last two days- but dammit - at 5:00 am my eyes were wide open and refused to close- so half an hour later i gave up the fight and got outta bed - made a cuppa tea and logged onto flickr.

the pic today another entry for colour week- today is white, and had no energy to find another pic

the day was eventful - some screaming matches with red faces during meetings (my meeting) i managed to control the group- left the office early again to view another apartment- boy was it dingy!

at least i had time before and after the viewing to speak to other agents so now signed us up for saturday morning viewings starting at 10:00 and ending at 13:30 - for some reason the one from yesterday has suddenly increased in price so not worth it anymore- so fingers crossed for saturday!

What a day at work, presented to global group heads- went well - shortly after we left for farewell drink to bid the project sponsor good bye- she reminds me of the merly streep role in the devil wears prada and insisted on pink champagne so pink champagne it was! two ok mayb three bottles later i found myself with a good ole colleague in an O'neils pub in Richmond- looking for our first opportunity to be alone without the client to 'catch-up' - and obviously another bottle of wine later plus another glass- what were we thinking? clearly we werent?

Friday night: Oxford Street

I stumbled out of bed- prob still under the influence too much at 7:00 am- called the cab company to find out if they picked up my cousin from SA landing at Heathrow this morning- He is 16 and I can be over protective that way!

He arrived we had fried eggs on toast and some tea whilst catching up- i cant believe how big he is now and how handsome he is and sigh that he's such an angel!

I spent the rest of my day testing (blech, yawn, boring, zzz) a system (or the parts i designed) real tedious like is the label correct, was it drop down field... this is the kind of stuff i never get involved in but comes around to bite every now and then!

this evening we did touristy stuff around london, after some GBK (Gourmet Burger Kitchen) we met friends at a pub in oxford- well on the street not inside- then walked up Regent, to Picc Circ and into L sqre... came across these artist that were spectacular!

Now off to bed at 01:01 to wake up early to flat hunt!

Yellow feet

Interesting saturday- got up early to see flats. We had six appointments with different agents some had more than 2 lined up for us, starting at 10:30. The first place we saw totally blew us away, it was perfect. Five min walk to station, located in Putney, two spacious double bedrooms, en suite bathroom, sep bathroom, sep loo, gorgeous new kitchen, we were wowed! My note book (i packed one to write up on each one so i remember what i saw) read apartment one: PERFECT!

The agent dropped us off and after some discussion we thought- lets ditch the other apartment viewing, put in an offer this one, and spend our day relaxing. She laughed at us and said if we put in the asking price the landlord will def accept & being the only agent dealing with the property, it's basically ours. So we filled out the forms, cancelled the other appointments and headed off for nice brunch on the riverside at Carluccious!

During brunch the phone rings, it turns out she has made a miscalculation and the price is higher, we call back with sadness to regret that we can't increase our price, now my heart is beating coz i have visions of starting out all over again!

Lost my appetite, sat there gloomy! Two mins later the phone rings again, the agent managed to convince the landlord that we were good tenants and with hesitation the land lord accepted! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAAY! The place is ours!

Its gorgeous and perfect for our needs!

We spent the rest of the day walking through Hyde park and relaxing with a soft serve watching other people picnic! - yup more touristy stuff! Thanks friends for holding yr fingers crossed for us- it works!

Lesson for today: always have faith- things can work out and people do remain kind at heart!

I spent two hours cooking up a storm whilst hubby took our guest to the driving range. I plugged the ipod into kitchen speakers, sang and danced whilst cooking. After they returned we had lunch and visited friends to play poker and have a braai for dinner.

This was taken as we set up the table to play and hubby's shades were so reflective. For the first time EVER i cleared the boys of the table and my girlfriend and i were the last two, so we split the winnings between the two of us and started the braai.

After the nice meal we caught up on the last week whilst the boys found some way of entertaining themselves with a tennis size football- it just never seizes to amaze me how men can be such boys and entertain themselves with hours by creating any form of game with a round object!

A busy day that left me totally drained and somewhat down due to the low mood at work. Really weird how these sorts of things never get to me but guess they always have a way of catching up with you.

I left the clients office feeling melancholy and headed off for an 18:00 MBA class at my office, really didnt feel like attending but the guilt from missing the last two courses dragged me there.

The lecturer was brilliant- the subject information management and the intro slide discussed Flickr- yaay that got my attention. He was one of those speakers I really envy, a complete natural that keeps the audience hooked onto every word with no need for props- it certainly cheered me up I got home completely famished after 22:00 and before i jumped into bed realised i had no pic for today, so sorry mates this was a desperate attempt of a tired girl - so tonight you see my pillow cases ;-)

Feeling nostalgic

Feeling nostalgic today. At work I received a call from the agent who needed to show our apartment to a potential new tenant, so it starts they showing our place to others. this place that has become home not only to us but also many of our friends and family members who have stayed with us, rested with us, shared meals with us....

After the viewer left, I walked into the kitchen and saw the sun streaking over a few hours before it set, and this was the perfect capture of the day!

A braai is a South African barbecue - short for braaivleis (literally grill meat). Lots of beer is normally consumed; all SA men are proud of their skill and prowess at braai-ing, the ladies come up with salads and desserts, and entertain themslves while the guys cluster around the fire and talk sport and/or sex.

Wikipaedia (naturally) has an article, while Youtube (naturally) has plenty of braai movies

Incidentally, I'm on my way home to fire up the braai (thanks for the new word jissy/rob!!)

And lots of beer WILL be involved.

Congratulations on your new perfect place!

I actually thought that the agent seeing you so into the apt tried to get you pay more. And when you said no, stuck to the previous offer. Im paranoid sometimes ;)

ooooh, thanks that's cool... dunno why but it makes me think of a Hawaiian word LOL
Maybe I'm confusing it with bra/bro, slang for brother LOL

Dumb? Never! Just an opportunity to learn some crazy customs and idioms of another country.
