Been contemplating about whether or not to start this project for over 3 weeks now - just due to the intensity of having to keep a camera every single day! But then today is the 4th of Jan 07 and funny that I have taken a pic each day this year- so maybe it's a sign ...... here we go 2007 in Pictures!

preparing to be married

Thursday morning as part of the wedding functions, the bride with her older brother and his wife are sitting down for a prayer to get her ready to be married! Doesn't she look so beautiful?

fallen

Friday was spent getting the hall ready for the wedding the next day. In the afternoon we got dressed and ready for the dance night. Tonight the groom's family joined us in the festivities.

We did our typical bollywood style dance - i couldn't remember half of my steps, but pretended to go with the flow.

The rest of the evening was spent doing traditional garba (gujerati style folk dancing), with family and friends. By the end of the evening we were famished. Hubby dropped my friend and I at her home and carried on to his. We couldnt open the door and both of us just crashed on the floor, in our Indian garb and just giggled at the situation. I started entertaining us by making her pose in different ways for me!

Lovely colours in your last pictures. The indian wedding looks fantastic and so different to what we are used to.
Simon-K 11 years ago
I love your last few pictures, so interesting and colourful. But the Henna one is by far the best, its so intricate and beautiful, really well shot!!
sunshinecity 11 years ago
wow, the colours of the wedding ceremony are beautiful. I ha NO idea there was an Indian community in SA. I guess I never pondered it.
I know so little! = (

Love the shots of the bar shelf too!

But karinga, if you had Jissy's memory, the captions on your photos wouldn't make sense! ;-)

Love the detail on the Mehndi, Jissy, and the colours of the wedding prayer are gorgeous--so warm. I love the saffron sari!

i have to admit having been married both ways to the same man off course, I've learned to love and appreciate the beauty of both western and indian weddings!

my sister in law painted that henna- i was so proud of her!! the least i could do was take a decent pic!

oh really? there is a huge Indian community in SA, thats partly why SA is called the Rainbow nation... filled with culture and tradition from all over! thanks!

my memory normally sux.. i guess it was just an emotional time seeing the last of my friends being married so it all comes alive!

oh they all looked so beautiful in their sari's! sigh now i'm missing home!

thank you thank you all - making me *blush* now!

Blushing bride

What an emotional day! today I watched my best friend (and cousin) walk down the aisle and marry the man of her dreams! My heart was filled with emotion and eyes with tears!

This pic was taken while we were waiting with her before she walked down the aisle. The two of us, plus friend Anisha from the pic the day before, were crawling (yes in our sari's) to take a peek at the groom entering the hall! we were giggling so much it felt like we were spying at someone else's wedding! Hubby had taken my camera away to get some pics of the groom but i did have my tiny sony in my handbag to take a pic of the bride in her gear crawling on the floor to take a peek!

We worked hard this morning setting up her hall, arrived later than the bride, half dressed, and enjoyed everybit of her day with her! she looked beautiful and most of all happy!

Jissy 11 years ago
Wow its taking much longer than I thought to work through all these pics! Today is already 24 April and I'm stuck on the 7th! Its so weird before i went ot SA my biggest compalint was the challenge of finding an opp to take a pic a day, now that I've returned i have the challenge of picking one out of 200 for a day! lol! we never happy are we? so the choices are simple, trying to stick to the highlight of the day- gee that helps a huge amount!

Next up on Everyday with Jissy:

- Easter lunch
- trip to Mpumalanga
- Kruger National Park
- Horse riding
- Pilgrims Rest

Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday!

This is exactly where you see how filled my life (and my country) is with culture. Yesterday I was dressed in Indian garb at a Hindu wedding and today I am spending the day with my in-laws celebrating Easter Sunday!

I love sitting at any table set by my mum-in-law. She pays such attention to detail and I always feel privledged to be there! Despite being tired from wedding celebrations we had a great day, doing easter egg hunts (with the boys) preparing for lunch, drinking Dom Perignon (yes the ones from our shelves in London) and spending time at home... oh how could I forget to mention that the food is 1000 times more nice than her table!

Now we talking! Finally we arrive on real vacation. We stayed at Crystal Springs, outside of Pilgrims Rest in the province of Mpumalanga of South Africa.

I mean need i say more, just take a look at what i'll be waking up to over the next few days- sigh pinch me!

snicker

Look at him snicker? i was smitten at how photogenic he was this morning, i managed to capture so many different expressions. I spent my day horse riding (more like a horse walk) with my brother and little cousin through the most beautiful streams and forests. I could have kicked myself for leaving my camera behind. we tried the whole trotting thing but -ouch- with the wrong jeans on that could be painful. In the late afternoon we went to a little old town called Pilgrims rest... you know the ones that have been preserved so even the petrol station still has tanks that old and rusty? the rest of the images can be seen in my Mpumalanga set.

My boys

Sunday, and tomorrow i leave.

We spent the day at home, saying goodbye to Melissa (Hubby's sister who lives in the US but was visiting at the same time) and starting to get a taste of just how hard it was going to be for us the next day.

that evening ended in even more drinking with other friends followed by me getting home earlier to try and clean out the closets of unused clothes i stored there... its just sensless holding onto old things so i scored a few work shirts for me, a pair of pants and the rest went into the charity pile!
