Been contemplating about whether or not to start this project for over 3 weeks now - just due to the intensity of having to keep a camera every single day! But then today is the 4th of Jan 07 and funny that I have taken a pic each day this year- so maybe it's a sign ...... here we go 2007 in Pictures!

Laundry done... next up... dinner

All day training at the client, first time on site, got there late, waited at the wrong place in the brrrr, didnt have the software on my laptop, had to share with others, pay extra attention al day, take notes, then missed the bus back to the station, waited in the brr again, sat next to a man who hadn't showered in a month and I swore was whispering rude things in my ear, was pushed off another train by commuters, JUST ABOUT HAD ENUFF!

Got home and tackled the over filled laundry basket, this pic after the ironing was done...and as I was done he served me this amazing dinner! Sigh I am spoilt n made it all worth it ;-)

Waterloo Station as seen from Arch One Bar

Friday night drinks.... celebrating a few personal successes with a girlfriend...who qued for almost two hours waiting to get into a pub to celebrate Australia Day...she got tired of waiting and hopped across town to meet me.

The hubby's were chilling together at home, the girls were sharing some wine with this view of Waterloo Station and commuters rushed by we were in absolutely no hurry and just enjoyed each others company!

Nice way to start the week!

Lunching

I woke up early this saturday (not before 8:00 am) and headed off to the stores browsing alone for the perfect SWOP items for a fellow Flickr Friend! Browsing felt like such a luxury, even made an impulse purchase for myself ;-)

Got home and Hubby had a sudden craving for Ribs from Tapanco- local resturaunt- so i slapped on some green eyeshadow, and off we went to Tapanco... this time I had the seat with a view of the outside!

Sometimes its just nice to stop on a Saturday, drink some wine, converse with your other half, enjoy a good meal and carry on with life ;-)

Sunday afternoon tea for one

We had planned to spend the afternoon at the Natural History Museum to see the exhibition of Natural Photography...but then got roped into spending the day in bed watching movies and sitcoms recorded from the week.

Eventually dragged myself out of bed feeling so guilty about forgetting to call my lil cousin for her b-day yesterday, waiting for evening so it's morning in California to wish her belated... did the weekly call home and decided to cook us a meal...

Before the cooking decided to enjoy a cup of tea and browse through my impulse purchase book.... it kept me entertained...actual collection of newspaper cartoon strip from the 50' s with funny housekeeping tips such as how to clean lace....certainly gave me motivation to get into the kitchen and appreciate my modern day appliances that help

Winter

My Daily Photo Diary Group is challenging me in more ways then one can imagine... seeking the perfect picture, finding it and not being in a position to take it, settling for non-day light pics and mostly committment to see this through!

Monday's can be so blue esp after a w-end of chilling, shopping and lots of nothing! I had a rather productive day at work...and on the way home, looking out for my Photo opp...I looked up and was reminded of the Summer in Holborn banner...it's not as brr as it was last week!

Sorry about the poor quality of this pic ;-) but hey it's the 29th day and i have one for everyday so far! ;-)

Peppers

Another Tuesday and the countdown to Friday begins...

Today i'll try to skip or refrain from using the W word in my diary! So what is life without work...oops used the w word, is it sad that sometimes it's how we define ourselves and self worth through what we do....? so i had a lot of time to think on my relatively easy commute home!

Got home, scouted the veggie options....and these two peppers inspired a mushroom and pepper pasta... with garlic bread and wine. inspiration for food sometimes can be tuff!
overge PRO 11 years ago
yum!! sounds good the result inspired by theese two peppers.. simple but effective :P:P btw.. it's so true that this "project" changes something in ur life.. I wake up a lot of days thinking.. oh.. what will I snap today.. or.. will I have the opportunity to take a photo today?? which leads me to the second point.. the w word.. mmm.... it's true that, at the end, if u don't do anything to solve it.. u tend to turn ur life in work, work, work and some relax moments from time to time.. even though... let's toast with wine (red? white?) and hope we keep finding all the *non-w* moments which make working worthy..

everyday is gamble

This morning as I stepped out of my apartment to start the daily commute...it suddenly hit me... A year and a bit after living in this country why people here talk about the weather so much!

You gotta understand Jozi where I come from has sunshine and blue sky 99% of the time, the 1% that it is grey or cloudly means that the whole City is in a Tizz.

Can someone explain to me how I can wake up to all covered in snow the one day, freezing cold the next, followed by a warm weekend and this morning bright sunshine blue skys?

As soon as I walked into the kitchen at the office, people were all excited, wearing brighter colours and talking about the wonderful sunshine... (see what did i just tell ya) it's the common topic of conversation! And now I get it, it's not because they have nothing else to talk about, not because they have bad weather here but ONLY because everyday is like a gamble ..just when u think u have it sussed mother nature deals a new hand! or as the newspaper reminds us global warming!

speaking of dealing tonight is boys poker night, they have become so fancy about it they even hire a special table that comes with a dealer...so as my colleague put it, I am a poker widow for the evening...waiting for my g-friend (who hubby is hosting) to arrive so we can deal ourselves a good helping of wine!

Oh and hooray! 31 days of entries... thanks for visiting and yr comments...helps keep me motivated to see this thru ;-)
overge PRO 11 years ago
umm... why not?? smelling flowers in a city like barcelona and in winter seems hard work but I'll try to focus on flower shops (I can imagine the shop assistant.. "umm... do you fancy anything??". and me.. "umm no.. just smelling spring" : )) btw.. oooh.. oooh.. I finish here.. I only have 5 minutes to do my 30th entry (yes.. I'm guilty.. I missed one day)... one whole month shared... eleven to come! : )

Jissy 11 years ago
Overge- ha ha that reminds me there is a florist vendor located right outside my station, and he has a massive hand-written board with a sign that says 'free smell' wait i think someone i know has it on their photostream ... u could go to him to smell the flowers each day ;-)

well done on the 30 entries...ah well one is bound to happen! 11 to go ;-)

It's been gorgeous here too. I think since it usually is so rainy, people are really appreciative of the sun when it stays for more than a day.

Nice photo. I take it you like mushrooms? I have a co-worker who doesn't like garlic or mushrooms. I almost fainted when she told me that LOL.

Noise

I was asked to dial into a meeting after it already started and as a result had no opportunity to book a quiet room and just did it from my desk! Oh Boy…did this trigger off a string of events that lead to my demise! 15 people decided to gather and have a loud discussion, someone was loading the dishwasher, the guy behind me is a musician started playing drums on the table, the lady on the other side had someone working with her at her desk the copier was running what felt like a million prints and as I got irritable each bit of noise increased my irritability levels.

I got off the call in nothing less then a drama queen, emotional and angry state, which left me with a headache the size of Pretoria! On my bus ride home, that offers me the most beautiful views of the City over the River Thames, I thought I’d try my luck at capturing some of the beauty and simplicity to stop the noise in my head…but aah, even the picture is filled with noise of reflection, people all around and darkness!

Now I looked forward to getting to the silent comfort of my home, with the hope that the first of Feb does not set precedence for the rest of the month!

umm.. I agree with sunshine.. your pic is noisy but pretty cool... it makes me think on the years I spent taking a train from my home to barcelona (1h15 each way, each day).. lots of nights, when going back home, I saw the same panorama.. the outside added to the light inside, showed people standing, people sleeping, people talking... in the middle of the dark night.. some days I found it depressing but other days it was nice :-)) wo.. well.. I'm sure the rest of the month will be much better than the first day, you'll see!! if not, you can always go to the florist and get some spring for free : )))

How to spend time...waiting at a station...

Ah what a day, ran through it being so productive ticking one thing off after another. was then in one of those weird situations, either i go home, and by the time i get there it'll be time to hit the road again for drinks, or kill time alone, skip the unnec commute and go straight to drinks.

so i opted for the later, walked thru waterloo station, bought myself a new hat, withdrew some £££'s for drinks and still had 20 mins remaining. So i headed to a pub, grabbed a small glass of wine and found a seat...one of those where people share tables.

So i did my sudoku puzzle, sipped my drink and as i got tired, i looked up and the guy at my table started chatting to me. - ok no he wasnt hitting on me- but just a nice friendly chat. He spoke about his day, he was some form of kick boxing athlete that was also studying physio n came to London for an interview and had another two hours to wait for his train to depart.

it was time to hit t road, i bid him g'luck for the job and rushed to meet hubby for drinks. we were meeting some old friends from SA, at a pub overlookin the river. Needless to say the evening got a bit out of hand, we ended up at friends home after drinking some tea, i was takin pics, n left my camera there too...well at least i was relieved it wasnt left behind in the cab (yes i was more concerned about my pic for the day then my camera..can u believe it?) so until i'm recovered and able to go out n pick it up...i'll have to keep this space blank!

Way before 08:00 am

aah so today i facilitated a group of over 60 people from all over the world for an entire day to make some serious business decisions and kick start a massive global transformation....! and all of that in Killer High Heel Pointy boots...i always do comfy shoes what was I thinking wearing heels after almost a year?

Didnt sleep much the night before on account for relying on other people to get things ready for me (which made me so nervous coz i'm used to doing things myself) but it worked out fine...everyone lfet happy and excited (i was secretly really scared as i designed and ran the session by my lonesome self) all the other times i at least bounce off ideas with colleagues, but i guess it's about putting yourself out there ... and learning from your own mistakes! i got home to super sore feet, a cloudy head and feeling a bit out of it!

This pic was taken as i left my house in the morning, it reflects the calm and focussed state of mind i was in, not knowing what was going to happen next!

From Reya with Luurve

What a Friday, woke up with this bad cold and drowsy head but it was the last day of the four day workshop so dragged myself outta bed to finish what I started on Tuesday ;-)

Feeling tired, sick and irratable I was rude to hubby in the morning and snapped at him so unnecessary, I felt so bad, I need to learn how to keep my mouth zipped (u know if u have nothing nice to say dont say anything) so I swallowed my pride apologised and off we went to work!

But the day turned out much better then it started, I recieved this amazing swap from Reya (a fellow Flickr friend), I admired her hand painted crockery in her pics so she offered to paint me some (isn't that sweet?). And inside the card a special surprise Autumn leaf paintings! I love it all, and felt so lucky! I spent the evening catching up on a week of missed Flickr, soaking in a tub, watching SITC re-runs & Vin Diesel (Pacifier) in bed.

Saturday breakfast

A day spent relaxing, recovering from the cold, resting from the hectic week and finishing the part of the Pacifier I missed last night! Finally got outta bed absolutely starved and decided to try something new for a change...remembered this amazing baked egg that Saffron displayed last year...added some mushroom, onion and cheese to her recipe....and boy were they yum!

The rest of the day involved chilling on the couch, drinking tea and chatting to mum n mum-in-law ;-) lets see what Sunday brings?

Baked eggs? Never heard of such a thing. Looks good though! Get feeling better soon so we can get that portrait. ;) You know if it's too intimidating for a portrait, just start with another body part (minds out of gutters) like your hands...

Sunday afternoon tea

We had a visitor today, someone from home that is here for work. We invited her to spend a day relaxing with us at home, sharing a hot home cooked meal, followed by this splendid warmly baked berry strudel and tea.

Yup this weekend was filled with rest and decadent food...just the way i like it ;-)

You always being watched

Commuting in an empty carriage really late at night, for me means that I can catch up on calls (yes i dont usually sit on the phone in the train coz i dont wanna annoy fellow commuters) so here i was late on a monday night, catching up on lost time on my phone thinking i was alone, and looked up and was reminded that in London (the most watched city in the world) you never alone, u never unnoticed, u never unwatched!

I guess it's a good thing from a safety perspective but makes u wonder sometimes....

the price tag it comes with

When the going gets rough, and all feels like it's crumbling around you, there is one
Man I can always rely on, he makes me smile, he helps me understand where i find myself, he makes it all ok for me and most of all he loves me. Today I had an awful day, felt like everything is going wrong, feeling like all i do is half baked due to my lack of time and comepting priorties, for my work, for myself, for my home, for my marriage, for my hubby and most of all for my fam & friends!

Yes I realised this morning that it's only Feb and on Sun I forgot one of the most dear friends i have in my life...special b-day! aagh this is what i mean? it killed me all day! - i called to make up and begged for forgiveness, but still it makes me sad! i got home and again this amazing man makes it all ok for me...

ha but despite the amount of things he can do to make it right, it comes with a price tag, this pic is proof...there are always bits and bobs of his belongings around the house...despite his own allocation of storage boxes, compartments, drawers, bags, etc there are always things in sight! ;-) can we ever b happy ;-) sigh

Well at least we have -heart- day tmrw to look frwd to and the string of selfies ;-)

@ Feb 12: I usually look around in public before doing something I might be embarrased about ;) Cos I know the big brother is out there... Sometimes I look around even at home!!! ;))))
@Feb 13: Hey, that price tag is so worth the package!

See you tmr! ;)

I know one can feel awful when missing someone special's birthday but every now and then we're bound to forget so don't be so hard on yourself.

Love your tags in you hubby's photo :)

don't worry
it's just a day
and there are a lot of ways (like chocolate, mmmmm) to make that person forget it
:)
Jissy 11 years ago
yeah yet another fear i need to get over , lol the def worth it ;-)

hey satrina thanx for the kind words but i fear she still hasnt forgiven me which is making it even hard, even worse that she lives in another continent... glad to entertain u with my tags ;-)

i think a brilliant postage to Africa beckons, hopefully it will do the trick, she is just so special to me and it bothers me so that I hurt her, thanks for the idea!

Being brave

Happy Valentines Day my Dear Flickr Friends

When we chose Wednesday to do this I didnt realise it was the over popular romantic day.... but aah it is, so thank you (u know who u are) for your support, encoruagement and rooting to get over my crap fears about selfies, even take some of yourselves (which i cant wait to see) and voilla here it is, me after a day at the client, with four hours of commute, minimal sleep and walking into a home filled with candle light and greeted with this beautiful rose ;-)

k no more typing coz i wanna rush to see all of your selfies
karinga 11 years ago

wow! now it's me who is shy for the selfie... I agree with Bellagaia and Sunshine.. so beautiful! ohh.. and great detail in the rose -see the p.s.- :-))) (btw.. my selfie -not to compare- coming this eve.. sooorry for the delay)

p.s. did u know that here (in Catalonia) we celebrate the "lovers day" the 23rd of April (Saint George) and that we use to give as a present a rose (for women) or a book (for men - even though it's pretty extended and almost everyone buys one that day) for those who we love?? It's a great day to see Barcelona or surroundings, with all the "love in the air" (ohh.. I'm feeling romantic now :P)
