Been contemplating about whether or not to start this project for over 3 weeks now - just due to the intensity of having to keep a camera every single day! But then today is the 4th of Jan 07 and funny that I have taken a pic each day this year- so maybe it's a sign ...... here we go 2007 in Pictures!

Avenue Q

My birthday and it was filled with laughter, suprises (good and bad) and fun!

I carried in cake to work today- to share with the client team that I had worked with all year. This was supposed to be my last week and I thought I'd give it a good start!

After presenting my work (the four days worth) to the project manager who was pleased, I was planning my exit out of there to rush home and spend the rest of the day wiht Hubby!

Unfortunately for me, the proj manager and some senior sponsor called me into a room and launched a verbal and emotional and commercial attack at me! wow so much to take it, so i took a deep breath, remembered what I learnt during training and tried to share some of my feelings- they were ruthless and didnt budge, at one stage I had to fight the tears- it was so annoying because all this fuss because they didnt want to let go of me, with no real reason as to what they wanted me to do if I stayed on!- sigh!

So i left the office, feeling sad! the new mobile wasnt working so I couldnt receive calls/texts from fam and friends and I couldnt call anyone to help me feel better. I plugged in my Ipod and tired to cheer myself up- just didnt want them to spoil this day for me!

but yay - got home and Hubby made it so special for me. He had this amazing cake, served me tea, lit my candle, gave me my pressies and said 'get dressed baby we going to watch Avenue Q'!

Pinch me- he is just such a sweetheart and really makes my world such a beautiful place to live in. So I decided that after all the effort he had gone through to plan such a special day I couldnt let others ruin it for us, and off we went to watch Avenue Q. It was funny!

Him: Flickr-ing

Welcome back to reality, brithday over, holiday over, and laundry to catch up on! I was scurrying about my evening and happened to run past Hubby in the lounge- he was catching up on Flickr-ing!

Isnt it ironic how days can just change so radically - one so special the next so normal?

Boys drinks

Today I had to deal with the difficult situation once again- with the end of the week drawing close, the tension was rising. With the help of others at my firm I managed to get them to agree and understand what they wanted/needed so that I could help them complete it all!

After a hard day of work, I headed off to Waxy's- between Picaddily and Leicester Sq- to celebrate Hubby's pre b-day with a few friends over drinks!

I remember sitting there thinking how nice it feels to be that pub- makes you feel like you living in London- ok weird random thought!

Happy Birthday

Today we celebrated Hubby's b-day! I had about five horus of work to do- so did it from home in the morning, he had the day off so spent the morning in bed!

This is what he was served in bed-along with all his pressies! The cupacake is from the famous Hummingbird Bakery, its called red velvet cake- and it was yummm!

After finishing my work it was a mad rush to pack our things, get the house in order and rush to the airport for our flight to Amsterdam! We were running so late and had something like an hour to make our way there, go through security and find our gate.

Luckily our flight was delayed by an hour so we made it in time. The rest of the day was great, arrived in Amsterdam, met our friends (the couple from SA), found our apartment, it was gorgeous, went out for amazing Indonesian dinner to celebrate and retired for the day!

Amsterdam: apartment

This is the 'height' of lazyness! Friday morning, in Sunny Amsterdam and I spent most of my day on the apartment balcony, watching roof tops and drinking tea! I have always been amazed by the hooks on the buildings- used for lifting furniture and now being roof height- i had all day to read my book and stare at hooks!

This evening a few more of our friends arrived, on our way out to meet em, I happened to stop and do some retail theraphy! Shopping in Euro's is great and in the NL's I can actually find things that fit me lenght wise!

Amsterdam: apartment

Today was a day of more relaxation- apart from rushign out to the DVD store to buy a few movies I spent my day on this very same roof top! Just to show you how lazy I was, this pic was taken on the 5th, but I figured same view, same spot, same difference.

i needed this - just time and space to reflect, nto to do anything, not to be anywhere, and just really reflect on the year, my project, my stress levels, the relationship building, all sorts of stuff!

This afternoon we watched the movie 300- it was excellent- and made me want to be a Spartan warrior- followed by The Notebook (which was not very popular with the boys), more reading and back to bed!

Amsterdam: me

Today I did have to leave the apartment- on account of having to return to London!

So with a few horus to kill before our flight, we walked about a bit before finding a place to have lunch. I thought this would be a brilliant photo opp as I passed yet another row of bicycles... and I was pleased with the result!

It was a nice relaxing weekend and I was look, ing forward to a new week, a new project and I felt like a new lady!

I woke up this morning all excited for my new start and as I started getting ready I realised I was on NL time so an hour too early- jumped back into bed and when I woke up an hour later, all my back and neck muscles went into spasm.

It was such a tough week, I couldnt sit, couldnt type, couldnt flickr, hol;ding my camera was the last thing I wanted to do.

Went to the Dr this time round, who recommended physio, no chance of beign able to get myself into a Yoga class, I had muscle relaxants and tried to take it easy!

Today was even worse, I stayed in bed, and watched a lot of episodes of Heroes, in between had to go to Physio!
The therapist used the word rocks to describe the state of my muscles.

I started feeling really down, I couldnt understand why this was happening, I was stressed out- I had such a relaxing week (some say its coz I stooped after being stressed) I had changed my pillow, I was doing yoga (ok I skipped on our birthday week) I changed my laptop bag, I ve changed my workstation- and still I couldnt control it- I guess I cant control everything, even thought I'd like too!

Still in pain- I had to get out to the office today to meet my new client! It wasnt a full on day, and I had to pretend I wasnt in as much pain that I actually was in!

I enjoyed all the commuting I had to do today- maybe just nice to get out- maybe just enjoying the time to read my book! (life of Pi btw)

A friend came over in the evening to do some Acupressure on me- something she's learning, which works with the Meridian system in your body- well I was keen- pulling out all stops from drugs to relax muscles, to physio, to accupressure, to energy healing and yoga! I take what I can get at this stage!

11 October 2007

I worked from home today- due to needing to attend physio at really odd times! I had a fair amount to get through and was happy to be keeping busy!

At the back of my mind I had something distracting me- this evening there were farewell drinks for a few people (me included) who were leaving the project I just left. After I left the client offices (on a bad note) last week- I had not returned, and I had not called them.

I was thinking abotu how childish the behaviour was, how after delivering such great quality and buildign such strong relationships that I coudl find myself in this situation due to some small print on a contract.

I dont like leaving memories behind in a negative way so decided at the end of the day to go to the drinks- and i'm glad I did. I was able to patch up a few things with people. The rest of the night was spent drinking wine, talking about experiences over the year, and listening to all the job offers that were coming my way!

I was glad that I decided to go!

I went into the office today and it felt nice to be back and surrounded by colleagues!

Still in pain this evening we took it easy- met Hubby at the station and we went to Nandos for dinner. Nando's for those that dont know is a South African chain - that serves very very spicey Portugese Chicken meals- and are well known for their witty marketing campaign!

After dinner we stopped at friends for a quick coffee on the way home! Finally the weekend was here and the week just dragged for me!

Change of season

My back was finally feeling much better- it still hurt to sit at my computer so I started to upload flickr pics to update my diary and my stream in bits and pieces, I needed to upload as private, come back later to edit tags, come back later to copy into diary and so my day went!

I was really frustrated- even just twenty mins at my computer was too hard- but I was so keen to get this diary back up and running that I had to do it!

In the evening we met friends for dinner- one who was celebrating Eid, so we shared dinner together and headed off to his home after to watch the Rugby!

I knew that it was going to be a long read getting back up to date after your big updating effort Jissy, didn't realise though how stressful it would be following your recent rollercoaster. You've had good times and bad times (sometimes on the same day), enjoyment and love but also pain, mental and physical. I would suggest that the intensity of your work environment, coupled with your perfectionism are directly responsible for your physical breakdown. Your strong mind can handle it, but the body rebels. Your comment on Oct 9 rings true. Keep up with the Yoga girl.

I enjoyed Venice with you, the pigeon story (haha), meeting old friends, looking good in the gondola with headless gondolier. Glad you managed to enjoy your birthdays in amongst all that client crap. Couldn't help feeling that you should not have had to deal with the retentive client all on your own.

Liked your Amsterdam bike/mirror pic, and your cheeky grin.

And what's this I saw back there: "- went in for waxing appointment (trying out a new place)" . You're waxing a new part of your body? Can we see a picture? :-)

@ Simon- the bakery is famous for their cupcakes - think its orignally American but it really is like a taste from heaven. If you're intersted check out their website humming bird bakery.

@ Jallen- ha ha - it feels so funny to hear you say that- I guess I never thought of my life being so busy till you pointed it out to me- guess that explains why so much neglect on the home front! Would I be correct in sayin that sometimes its not the technology that fails but the problem is actually the user trying to make it work? Ha ha- hope it eases up for you!

@ Rob- Nice to see ya back- hope things are calmer for you! So much of what you say friend is so true- but i have to admit I keep working at it these days both the mentail, emotional and physical state. Dont even get me started on why I was left to deal with that difficult situation on my own, can i just say incompetence on the part of those who were meant to deal with it- oh by the way while i was Italy- oh well its done and dusted now! As for the waxing- ooohh - did I mention that I WALKED OUT of there coz no one would serve me? But nope nothing exciting was going to be waxed- tee hee

SSC- tell him friend!

CG- it really is my pleasure! I totally agree with you on Amsterdam everyone thinks its about the sec and drugs- but its so much more- the culture- the people- the indonesian food- the stores that sell long trousers- I guess I lived in the Hague for three months so just learned to love so much about the Netherlands!

"We Spartans do not retreat, do not surrender;" its great! I wanna be a Spartan warrior! Lol at the afrikaaner taking on Paris!

I'm stirring so much of nonsense at my office amongst the English- displaying my Bokke scarf on the desk, abusive e-mails, bets flying and its just ended with a sweaty England shirt on my desk- blech!

blur pic - blur me - blur mood

This is called- blur pic- blur me- blur mood!

Today I stood on my feet for 8.5 hours (without time to eat) facilitating four groups of very emotional bankers - apart from being totally tired, slurring my speech at the end and not being able to walk. I left feeling like I can make a difference, I can help these people and even better for the first time in a long time so proud of myself. I'm not trying to blow my horn but these guys were tough- a year ago I would have ran out the room in tears but I stuck my ground, I felt the power, i took control and I made it happen!

I guess the harsh year with the difficult situations I was in (as much as I hated it at the time) and the two day high impact relationship training paid off BIG TIME!!!

One suit even turned to another at one stage and whispered 'Damn She's good' I winked and said 'I heard that!'

So after all this I get home, put down my bag, confused about how I feel, tired and good so blur, change to tracks and leave for a three hour intense training called Gateway to HSP- meaning learn more about the Yoga you doing class.

It was full on but again felt great- a treat for me at the end of my day- and boy do these HSP guys know how to make you feel good at the end of a day!

We hosted the game at ours, yet again a wall made into a big screen!
I really thinkg our country deserved to win- I was so emotional for the Bokke- and the country would unite in a way you and I cant even understand!

At the end of the day I had great intentions of going to Yoga- but felt so tired. Luckily for me Hubby texted to say he was meeting a friend (the Devil below) for drinks- so a glass of wine and a greasy burger won the Yoga battle.

This morning was a crazy rush- we woke up at 09:30 and frantically started working at making our costumes and getting ready for our Halloween Pub Crawl!

Here is Hubby- i was so proud at how well he made his costume and all by himself! So many people asked if it was store bought- the man has some hidden talents!

Finally we were ready for our Halloween pub crawl around London Underground! It was such fun- we left at about 13:00 and returned after 03:00. It was incredible- people put such effort into their outfits and those that didnt were punished appropriately! We were amazed at how so many people lost inhibitions due to the costume they were in- like it allowed them to take on a different persona- even for one day- but in a good way!

Home stuff

I spent my day commuting the gorgeous town of Chester, to facilitate two workshops. The trip wasnt bad; got to read my book, eat first class breakfast, do a few conference calls and there I was- at my destination. Chester seemed like such a pretty town with the white and black buildings that caught my eye but unfortunately no time to take anything in- straight to office- straight back to train station.

After a looooong journey home, I was tired and these objects in my guest room will entertain my diary today. Yup in some previous life I used to collect fairy figurines, I've carried a few special ones with me to England.

Kitchen stuff

I had all these good intentions to leave the office early today and make it in time for Yoga- yeah right- I had an early start with an 08:30 meeting. Which was worth the early start coz I had a senior leader in our team sing the South African National Anthem at the start of the session- yup part of a bet he lost coz we won the Rugby!

The rest of the day meant organising lots of other workshops, and training up some team members to run them on my behalf. At the end of the day, I rang up a friend to ask a quick question which lead to an agreement to meet for a quick glass of wine, which lead to us buying a bottle of wine, which lead to the boys joining us, which lead to them buying shooters and the rest was history!

I was just grateful that I had a late start on Friday!

Hmm Friday and a late start. My first meeting in Banking-ville aka Simons town aka Canary Wharf started at 11:30, so I got there by 11:00- the joys of a lie in- i walked in with a spring in my step. Damn did the first meeting take the spring right away from me. My second group was so friendly and the third darn somewhat tougher!

But hey it was all over and I rushed over town to meet hubby to go to drinks for a friends birthday in Camden Town (yup i was still suited and booted).

The pic was taken outside my kitchen window with a tree that I get to see, all illuminated in orange from the street light!

Saturday and i bring you the same tree in Day light!

I woke up to my mobile phone ringing-oops the physio office and I was due for an appointment, the guys there were so nice they offered me a later time. I got out of bed and started our big spring clean, for two reasons really; one it needed to be done and two its what we do in preparation for Diwali.

After the clean was up I made my way to physio, got home and hubby and I cuddled and watched a few movies- just what we needed!

Filling our home (and lives) with light

I had one of those get me outta here- I quit days today! I started the day thinking I was in training, actually got to training and 20 mins later i was out of training, fighting fires, solving problems and aagh I dont even wanna go into the details.

I ended up missing Yoga which upset me- this week was suppose to be a better Yoga and a better MDPD week!

I did however cheer myself up, by taking out my lamps in preparation for Diwali which is this Friday. Traditionally we light lamps in every room inside our home for five nights leading to Diwali (yes i was meant to start yesterday).

It felt so nice having my home lit up and feeling festive- now really looking forward to Friday.

Ah - perhaps your memory card did not loose pics. Nikon's numbering system will create a new directory on the card when your photo number rolls over 9999. Load the card in a reader and you will probably see the extra folder. My wife loves her D80 !

Rob- Thanks for the wishes- now I just want time to fly so it can be Friday and I can be celebrating- instead of fighting fires, trouble shooting and dealing with a crisis ;-)

CG- wow - you got your lovely lady a D80? Thanks for the hint- I shall try to check again ;-)

I absolutely love it when people link to stuff like wikipedia (wonderful thing that is!) and educate each other about the things that are traditional and important in their homes.

We are all such diverse humans, and it's so fascinating to learn & to celebrate the differences. It is what makes us so beautiful as humans- such colorful threads in the fabric of life!

In fact I do believe I will light a lamp in honor of Diwali :)

an aside- you just reminded me of my promise I made myself to go outside and shoot the moonless sky... argh did it come already???

Dahnteras

A weird day, solving a crisis, fighting a fire, call it what you like, but it meant I had to skip yoga due to staying in the office late!

Rushed home and had to prepare for a little prayer called Dhanteras- which is all part of the Diwali festivities. On this day we show appreciation for all we have!

As I was done Hubby suprised me with Dinner- he prepared Tapas, all home made with a selection of Spanish Omlette, Mushrooms, Patas Bravas, Spanish rice and some meat bits for him- hmm!

Candle light

An interesting day which started with me sitting at the Cafe Nero across from the Ritz, drinking my cappucino and reading my book! Yup another day of all day facilitation but because of the mad rush yesterday I forgot to print the addy and directions, and gave myself more than enough time to find it and have a cuppa!

I only had three sessions so ended at 15:30 was home pretty early and started feeling terribly homesick! I guess it was Diwali eve and I am away from my loved ones so its bound to happen!

I wasnt in the mood for lighting lamps so lit a few candles instead- hey light is light and there are no rules!

Happy Diwali!

Happy Diwali

I spent my day shopping for Diwali treats in Tooting (nearest suburb with Indian stores to me). That was quite an experience now that I've moved to Putney seems to require more than two different modes of transport which was not cool- esp the journey home with tons of bags of treats! I decided its def time to buy a car!

I got home, showered and got ready for our Diwali party! My first friend brought a bottle of Veurve - bubbly my fav- followed by more friends and more pressies and most of all laughter and good company!

Happy New Year (Sal Mubarak)!

Gotta love the contents of the bright pink package even more

My friends spoil me! This morning I opened my gift from the night before and had to pinch myself, look at this gorgeous selection of teas- and truffles- hmmm!

I had a long chat to home and the best thing happened, my two year old nephew - who doesnt chat a lot to me over the phone- took the handset and rapped away every single word he knew for over ten minutes! It made my day I tell ya- his little voice was just amazing and he had such personality behind each word!

I did a clean up this morning - yup Diwali got messy! Followed by a trip to the grocery store. We planned on cooking up a storm and enjoying a quiet meal with two of our friends (you'll know them as Darth Maul and Evil Bride from Halloween). We had such fun cooking together and eating together followed by movie watching and me falling to sleep!

So much light and colour and exotic treats the last few days. You celebrated well! I'm intrigued by the Chilli Tea with a fire extinguisher on the packet - how was it? Bringing new meaning to the phrase "a hot cuppa"?

I love snail mail - especially when they aren't bills!

Hey what a treat amongst the usual bills to get three such treats:
1. Wedding invite
2. Postcard from Jools (A parisian Flickr friend in Japan at the mo)
3. An early Christmans card

It added to the postive frame of mind after Yoga- ok gotta run and get ready and packed I leave to work across the Channel Islands tomorrow!

Yup- I think I'll be sleeping comfortably in this King sized tonight!

So I spent 6 hours commuting from my home to this Hotel in Jersey today and can you believe that actual flight time was less than an hour- go figure!

I think I'll be sleeping comfortably in the Channel Islands this even- King sized - hmm I'm not complaining. I was welcomed with a complimentary glass of champagne- just the charger I needed to sit down and work!

After the work was done I started going through the bar to make a cuppa tea and LOOK what I found- wahha they've thought of everything havent they?

ok enough laughing now to order room service or do I go downstairs..hmm- good night friends!
