Been contemplating about whether or not to start this project for over 3 weeks now - just due to the intensity of having to keep a camera every single day! But then today is the 4th of Jan 07 and funny that I have taken a pic each day this year- so maybe it's a sign ...... here we go 2007 in Pictures!

Cheers to a great vacation

Such a crazy day- I worked from home for the first half and had to head off to the airport the second half! I remember leaving some time to do packing but it just did not happen! Trying to wrap work up before a holiday is hard work man! I was on the phone all morning- in between editting presentations, updating plans, delegating approvals aaaggh and even a call with my company wanting to send me back to work in the netherlands for the rest of the year- come on people just let me get away from this!

Needless to say Hubby walked in and I barely greeted him - in a vain attempt to get work done- i managed to pack and be ready just in time- and as the cab driver arrived I was taking down Alex's contact details for our Roma hook up!

So my dear diary friends this was def the HIGHLIGHT of my day...sitting at Heathrow, Hubby across the table, White wine spritzer in front of me and on route to a fab vacation! CHEERS to that!!!
Dragonhide 11 years ago
That feel.. when you're about to leave on a vacation is a weird one. You're so excited you can't stand it, and at the same time fretting about worried about leaving work (especially if you happen to care about your work- some people don't... I think thats sad, cause you do spend so much of your life at it)... worried about stuff backhome.. OMG DID I LEAVE THE IRON ON???

And then when you take off (hit the road, or take the train or whatever)...

Bliss.
Jissy 11 years ago
you took the words right out of my mind- it was that exact same fretting- and this pic was my Bliss!lol I like your thinking!

Paris

Day one in Paris....so much to take in...pretty much went like this:
- trip to the louvre
- sat on the ferris wheel to take in the sights (where this was taken)
- went to Eiffel tower by boat
- saw the long que's and opted for a picnic in front of the grass
- took the boat again to Notre Dam
- walked through the beautiful cathedral
- stopped for a rest at a Tapa's bar
- a bottle of wine, hmm some cocktails,
- maybe even tapas and lots of ppl watching
-oh and followed by a HUGE ice-cream
- took about 250 pics
- finally back to hotel to get some rest
Dragonhide 11 years ago

Jissy 11 years ago
the guru? not sure who that is...but nope no meet-ups in Paris....just had pretty much one day to spend!

lol- it is a lot - i guess thats why we just crashed late afternoon at the tapas bar...lol well deserved! I didnt go up the stairs, but did opt spend time outside watching street skaters doing their thing!

The guru? Philppe Leroyer, larger than life, randy Frenchman, who started this project and then dropped out after about six weeks. He still pops up in some of the diary threads, like here or here.
sunshinecity 11 years ago
ohhh stunning view hon! Amazing!

CG- hey point out your apartment to me (hmm maybe by adding a note on the real pic)- wouldve been great to hook up- hope ya had fun in Greece- yup we were pretty blessed with great weather throughout the trip!

Rob- ah now I know who the Guru is- silly me- wouldve loved to but seeing that we only had one day- time was ltd- our second day was spent watching the Bokke smash Samoa ;-) tee hee gotta brag about SA sport while we're on a winning streak!

love for country - love for beer - love for game

Love for country- love for beer- love for game. Today we watched South Africa smash Samoa at their first game in the Rugby World Cup 2007. The atmosphere outside the stadium was incredible- the crowd was covered in Green (even I had a shirt ) and Bokke fans definitely out numbered the Samoan fans!

I remember thinking that S African supporters are so much quieter than some of the fans from other parts of the world, we have like one cheer but generally scream go bokke- it was secretly wishing someone could break out into a loud song- like Shoz-loza!

This was also the first time i drank beer in a very very long time and i really enjoyed it- but Hubby wasnt that into it so felt weird to order more rounds alone tee hee!

After the game we got back to our hotel and after freshing up - headed of to Champs Elysee for dinner- to be reminded that we are in a romantical city after the beer drinking- burping- game!

Sunshine city herself

We departed Paris at 06:00 am this morning- yup an early start! Our arrival in Rome was a simple one- but trying to make our way to our hotel proved challenging in many ways- we finally go there by mid-day- and called the gorgeous Alex to make plans to hook up later!

We spent our day lunching, roaming around the colossem (pardon the pun) and the roman forums- followed by a walk through the memorial of the unknown soldier aka big white building ha ha or cake!

Moving on- Alex rode up in her cute little bike and met us at a bar before heading off to dinner- and yes friends she is everybit as filled with personality, fun and laughter as she comes across in her diary! Hubby was smitten at just how sweet she was (as was I off course). After some amazing Italian dinner (and even better company) we walked through the lively part of Roma-Trasteveres.

Our meeting felt so comfortable- really like we knew each other for years- which makes me feel that this diary brings us much closer to each other than we actually think!

Now we waiting for SSC to come over to London- for the second meet up!

Leaving the Vatican Museum

Day two in Rome.

We started our day with a relaxing
breakfast , Roman style off course, admiring the view's and talking about our previous evening with SSC- we headed off to the Vatican City!

I was totally blown away- by the Vatican Museum, followed by the Sistine Chapel and it got even better when I walked into St Peters Basilica! I totally ignored the camera- pretended it didnt exist - almost felt like I could do the art no justice behind the lens and took in as much as I could with all my heart!

I could not believe that Michelangelo spent four years (on his back) creating the amazing art at Sistine Chapel- I almost felt faint! I did buy myself an amazing coffee table book so I could keep a piece of it forever!

We ended our day at the local (Italian) place around the corner from our hotel- the waiters smiled at us- seeing it was our second visit- but the food was great! After a good nights rest- tomorrow would be Florence

Beautiful spiral here, Jissy. Reminds me of Simon's London Assembly.

I'm with you on St. Peter's and the Vatican. It is 35 years since I was in Rome, but I will never forget Bernini's columns, Michaelangelo's ceiling and Piéta, and many things besides. Does Venice come next?

Alex- I understand... I only discovered recently after being here in Missouri for several years that my backyard is the backyard that people from all over the country travel to come see. So I've started venturing out in my own backyard to see what the deal is-- instead of just complaining about not being able to travel and see stuff...

Sometimes the awesome stuff is in your own backyard :)

Remember, one person's boring backyard is the next person's exotic location.. and it's true!

If you and Parliament are available over Christmas, Simon, I might take you up on that offer.

BTW Jissy, I've already lined up a venue for our meeting in December. I consulted my daughter Natasha (I want you to meet our girls), who is well up on eating and drinking places, and she said "Ooh, Putney, we must go to La Mancha"! So give us an evening or lunchtime between Dec 21 and New Year, and we'll do tapas and wine. Maybe Simon can join us also.

Street art

It was so difficult to pick a picture for the day, coz I had about 200 to pick from! Today we arrived in Florence, hmm now let me try to remember how the day went!

Ah yes, we checked into our gorgeous hotel, and strolled around Florence town! This town took my breath away I mean I almost felt faint walking through such beauty. The picture selected here is one of the reasons behind such beauty, just a gorgeous piece of art in the middle of the street!

By the time we were tired and hungry it was that weird hour that most places close down for to prepare for dinner, so we rested at a pub with a pint - yup he found Guinness in Florence too- before heading off for dinner!

I do remember the rest of the evening being a blur- dinner involve a litre of wine, followed by another bottle of wine purchased at a side cafe, need I say more? ha ha

gondoliers

Arriving in Venice

We strolled around Venice for a bit and I decided to try to fee the pigeons in St Marks square. It was the funniest thing, you see I am extremely squirmish, and as I purchased the seeds a single pigeon landed on my shoulder, but it felt like a 1000 so i started to scream (yup real loud) and threw the seed packet really far away in a different direction - like it was a hand grenade and ran away as fast I could. Hubby was laughing he even had tears strolling down his eyes and regretted not taking a pic of that!

After the whole pigeon incident we were strolling through the square, admiring the view, my heart still beating fast from the incident and suddenly someone came from behind and grabbed me and yelled SUPRISE! It was a couple (friends of ours) from SA who now live in Dubai, whom we never keep in touch with but they saw us a mile away and decided to creep in on us. I was in total shock but after a brief catch up we decided to join them for dinner!

It was a fun filled evening, having dinner with old friends who brought along other old friends we knew and catching up in Venice!

I woke up extremely unwell today and after breakfast we went around trying to find a pharmacist who would help me-without going into detail some pharmacists didnt want to help out- we finally found a kind man who was helpful. We spent our afternoon resting in the hotel room and watching movies- I think my body needed it!

Eventually I got out and was ready for my Gondola ride- it had to be the highlight of my day. It was so funny we set up our camera at the end of the gondala and used the remote to take pics, I have so many when you flick through fast it looks like a movie ha ha!

Warmth

Life returns to normal, and I take this pic at the end of the night as I'm getting ready for bed.

It was not a pleasant day back, had some serious issues with my client even a confrontation about my leaving date, tried my best to resolve it as best as I could. Most of my day was spent on the phone to people regarding this issue as well as discussing next project opportunities and having to make decisions about whether or not I was prepared to travel abroad for my next assignment. Well that was just the cherry on top after not being able to get my current client agree to let me go.

I decided to not get stressed by it and went to Yoga after work hoping to relax as much as I could!
Jissy 11 years ago
18 September 2007

Just a girl standing in front of a boy

The saga at work continues and life at the client is getting harder- them not wanting to let go, me saying my role is over, them having a fear the team I was leading would go astray after my departure, me feeling bad for my team coz it undermines their ability, them just trying to latch onto me, me feeling like I should start doing a bad job to want them to get rid of me.

People were telling me it should be a compliment that they want to keep me, I felt like a piece of meat being fought over by the current client, by three project managers who all want me on their projects as the next role and so it goes on!

Again I go to Yoga, relax, and take it all in my stride. Tonight I try to upload some holiday pics but really not feeling up to much so stop Flickr-ing and watch Notting Hill in bed instead- this scene made me smile, when Julia Roberts says, I'm just a girl, standing in front of a by, asking him to love her- a smile before bed after a disastrous day!

No pic for today- unfortunately- too much laundry and life happening

I remember at least getting the current client client to agree to a piece of work they needed- some four weeks worth to be completed in four days (i.e by the end of next week) I book a room at my office for four days next week, clear the teams diary and ready to go into overdrive work mode to complete the task at hand and leave with grace.

It was such a busy day, followed by Yoga and return to home to prep the house (with laundry all over the show) for house guests (friends from SA) who are arriving tomorrow.

Comfort

Today I start a two day training course at the Hilton in London entitled ' High Impact Relationships'. It was fabulous, just being with my colleagues from my company, who I never get to see on account for all of us being on different projects in different locations.

Our facilitator was excellent, a man who honestly taught me so much about myself and encouraged me to go way over my comfort zone to reach my goals. it was just so nice to get away from the crap on my project and forget it for a day or two and really just focus on developing me as a person and the way in which I work at relationships.

When I arrived home, my friends from South Africa had arrived. A couple that I used to have such fun with, we shared so many happy memories together and talked about our holidays over the years. We went out for dinner to one of our favourite Tapas bar in Putney and just had a relaxed evening together!

After dinner we chilled at home and just before retiring I remembered to take a pic of the day- so this had to do- my TV blankie on my couch!

Champagne Friday

Such an interesting day, so much to share where do I start?

Day two of the training programme and today in one of the prac rounds I really push my personal boundary and level of comfort out there - its a safe environment to practise in, and even though I was trembling and nervous and felt uncomfortable, the feedback was totally different. My friends around me said my delivery was calm, focussed, confident and made sense- and what felt like a very difficult message was actually fine! I embraced my fears and did it! It was such a personal accomplishment - It felt great!

In the evening we took our friends out to a Bar/Lounge place and invited some 20 other friends who we had not seen in a while. Whilst getting dressed we sipped champagne to get us in the mood- so here's my champer glass on my way out!

Most of the day was spent lounging, in the afternoon the two of us sat at the boat house in Putney sharing drinks and catching up with quality girl time whilst our Hubby's had gone off to watch the football.

Tonight they left to stay in a hotel in London for their Euro bus tour left very early the next morning- I felt sad after saying good bye but knew we'd still have a weekend together in Amsterdam before they left for SA!

Bed time

Day three of being locked in a room! Feeling like we made excellent progress. Had to have a new mobile delivered to me on account of dropping my current one in Water on Tuesday morning. The delivery man ran off without waiting for me to go and meet him- it annoyed me!

I was really good with this Yoga thing and went again this evening- Snapped this up before going to bed- sorry about the poor pics in the stream for this period- but life was just tough and my motivation levels for MDPD were dropping!

Catching up with Flickr

Day four of being locked in a room- and today we took our four days worth of flip charts and post it notes in a room that someone would think the Nutty Proffessor lived in- and decided how we need to present all four days worth of thinking in an hour to senior stakeholders in the best way possible.

I came up with the story and brought a graphic designer into the room downstairs - so she could make it pretty electronically! She brought the company's DSLR down to take pictures of my wall, went back upstairs and started her magic!

I left the office with a sense of achievement- I did in four days about tw o months of work, I knew my time with the client would be over. Did I mention that I also carried home a 10kg box - a delivery from Amazon- containing part one of Hubby's b-day gift- which was a huge relief that it started to arrive in time!

I got home with smile, feeling motivated, not having to go to Yoga, not having to prep dinner (Hubby had the day off and spent hours in the kitchen doing some Gourmet stuff) before going out golfing! No one was home- here I sat- smiling, and uploading to Flickr- just happy to have nothing to do in the evening and time to myself!

Finally the new phone arrived- an to commemorate the long wait for it I took my pic of the day with it- unfortunately two days later it stopped working- great in time for my birthday- and when they replaced it- I thought the pics were saved on my memory card but instead it was on the phone :-( - very sad face!

It was a brilliant Friday- I walked into the office with a HUGE box from Amazon waiting for me! Part 2, 3 and 4 of Hubby's b-day gift arrived- and two of my books! Did I mention how much I love Amazon...those guys are great and efficient!

A few hours later the post man stopped me at a colleagues desk to ask me to sign for another package- I was confused- all my Amazon stuff was already here- so I signed and all the girls encouraged me to open it there and then!

Ok so I open the box and out pops the most amazing Foil balloon which says- We will miss you- it was accompanied by a box of chocs and card from two team members at the client office who knew I was leaving the project! It made me feel so special!

The day progressed to champagne at the office to celebrate a marriage, drinks after work and a catch up with my Girlfriend after drinks! All in all I was pleased the crap from last week seems to have gone away and life seems to be returning to normal!

Satisfaction

Another lie in before heading into town for some odds and ends. On the way home hubby says that he had made a pre-birthday dinner reservation at an Indian place and invited our friends to come along! He is just so sweet!

Dinner was amazing, great food, great company, great wine- and as you can see here just pure satisfaction!
