Your new icon looks like ... imagine a big old painting from a ball room, where there are people dancing and they are dressed Jane Austen-ish, and no one is looking into the eyes of the viewer ... except for one person, who is not at the center of the painting -- you! The one detail that really stands out if you study the painting long enough.

Yeah.

That's what your new icon is like.

Now that you say that, I am reminded of the scene in Amelie when she speaks to the frail man who is trying to capture one particular character from a Renoir (I think...) painting.

I didn't see anything I wanted to photograph today. Considered doing a selfie, but that would have meant getting up to look in a mirror first.

Went to work, did a little gift shopping, went to the pub with some peeps from work, bought some wrapping paraphanalia (sp?) for the gift I bought at lunctime and then came home.

Thanks Glory. I didn't have the energy to go looking for a dictionary {:->

Yesterday, I had a vodka, lime and soda. I don't have a particular beverage that I drink every time. It just depends on what my tastebuds are feeling like when I order.

Sounds like a good mix. I'm very adventurous with my picks myself, too. I remember you describing a place where they bring you your drink.... in pieces where you mix them yourself. Such a neat idea!

Aw, a birthday cake without the birthee.. I hope the little one's feeling better!

As a matter of fact, I'm going to that cafe this evening and my plan is to have one of their garden teas.

You get a rolled up ball of stuff and a pot of hot water. Add them together and voila! A garden begins to grow right in your glass.

Lalalian- that's just awesome. I would love to see a cafe that does that sort of stuff. I guess I should get myself over to your neck of the woods for as tour. :-)

Hey, I recall that tray- that is the garden tea you're talkin about! it's pretty dang cool!

You know, what Sandra said about your icon? Well, I was going to say that about the vase at the cafe. But you hadn't posted it yet. and it was going to be about a vase, not a painting. but pretty much the same. and about people dancing the minuet, though.

My nieces and nephew met their new cousin today. It was so lovely to watch their faces when they first saw her.

Zinnia could hardly tear herself away long enough to eat or play. She just wanted to be near little Eliza all the time.

In the evening I went to church. I had the night off from band which was nice. Caught up with some of my peeps in the cafe afterwards and then some of the band guys went for drinkies and a chat after.

Yay for good times {:->

Soooo tired today. Fell asleep on the train on the way to work and I think I may have snored... How embarassment!!!!

Work was ok, it was even better when we had cake in the afternoon. We haven't had one for a while, so after a bit of thinking we worked out that it was someone's 6 month-a-versary in the unit. That was as good a reason as any for an afternoon tea.

Had music rehearsal in the evening and it went pretty well. Spent a bit of time trying to rework some tunes that have just about been done to death.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I love making music and spending time with those guys and gals. One of the best things I did last year was to change churches, because I probably never would have met them otherwise. I feel so incredibly blessed to have them in my life {:->

My sleep is weird too.. At least once a week, sometimes much more often I dream about Flickr people.. really weird dreams, too. I'd be hanging out with whoever often doing very mundane stuff. Two of the most stranger ones that I remember were with _rebekka, the other with Solea.

My sister and I were in a beach volleyball competition as a team vs _rebekka... I think we lost.

in the solea dream, she was teaching me how to play Hopscotch.

Oh yeah, one more I remember off hand- Zoetrix and I comparing our stamp collections.

I don't even like stamps.

Thar be pirates

Thursday is Life Group night.

I guess it would be the equivalent of what I grew up calling a bible study group or something, except we don't really follow a program or sit there with our noses poked in the "good book".

It has a fairly organic format and conversations range from what's happening in our day to day lives to the deeper questions that human kind generally ends up asking at some point to having laughing fits about some random piece of silliness.

Tonight brought a fairly small number of us due to illness and other commitments, but conversation was no less fruitful. God has been doing some pretty big things in each of our lives over the last little while and it's very exciting and encouraging to share the journey with them.

This is probably the first time in my life that I've felt comfortable enough with myself and my friends to be able to express what I'm actually thinking and feeling. There is such a strong level of trust and respect within this group that is quite refreshing.

The pirate patch doesn't really have anything to do with anything, but it was just left out by one of the kids that lives in the house me met in and I thought it was cool {:->

Tomorrow is a public holiday, so my posse decided to have a curry and movie night since we didn't have to get up early the next morning for work.

We watched "For Your Consideration" and "Stranger Than Fiction" which were both really wonderful films. I'd heard about them, but didn't get around to seeing them at the cinemas.

I carried my camera with me all day, but didn't end up taking it out of it's case.

Each year Brisbane has a public holiday for the Ekka.

The original purpose of the day was so that working people could have a chance to go to the show, but I've never really got into to that because there are too many people and everything in there is a flamin' rip-off!!!

Instead, the posse gathered for a very pleasant impromptu afternoon tea that was essentially formed from left overs from the movie night and a few other random beverages and tasty treats like strawberries with chocolate ganache to dip into. YUM!!

On the way home I stopped in to say hello to my mum, brother, niece and nephew.

Soooo tired after the last two days of social whirl and it was a pretty hard slog to get through the working day.

Went to Life Group tonight and we talked about some possible changes that might be happening with our church ie. maybe canceling our evening service and leasing the space to another church group that needs a larger venue at night time.

Everyone got to have their say and it was pretty clear that (for various reasons) most of us aren't overly convinced that the proposal would be beneficial to our church, but were totally committed to the community and would respect the leaders' decision if they chose to go ahead.

A few of us have had the feeling that the last few months have been a time of setting the foundation for some pretty major God stuff to happen in the near future.

I think that this situation has provided the opportunity for us to discuss things that have been floating around in our hearts/heads and realise that a lot of us are heading in the same direction.

Exciting times!

Bathroom Philosophy

Caught up with my friend Stacey for lunch at a place we affectionately call "Nanna Cafe". It's on the top floor of a major department store in the city and only nannas seem to ever go there.

Life Group gathered for dinner tonight because one of our number is leaving Australia to head back home to Ireland (so sad!!!!) and there are a few birthdays coming up.

We cashed in some pizza vouchers that we won at the Trivia Night on the weekend and everyone brought a dish to share. It was all so good and great to just have a good catch up with everyone.

Lately I have been really interested in reading the graffiti I see in toilet cubicles.

Mostly they are just random scribblings that range from funny to crass and sometimes can be a little sad, but this one really resonated with me.

I've spent a lot of my life trying to live by what other people wanted or by what I thought other people wanted me to be, but over the last 7-8 years I've slowly been working to try and live how I am supposed to live. Not in a selfish way, but to be true to who I am and do the best I can with that.

Sometimes it's been really difficult to learn new ways of thinking and acting, but for the most part it has been really rewarding.

Spring in Brisbane already?

Maybe you've tumbled to it already, but what Buns was referring to in his sly, obtuse way, was the medieval custom whereby the Duke, or Count, or whatever, had his way with the bride before the groom got to celebrate the honeymoon. Basically the plot of The Marriage of Figaro.

It's interesting, because in some situations, all throughout my life I've had no difficulty at all being myself, following my path... I like my alone time. But yet in other situations I have a much more difficult time with the concept. It's one of the promises I made myself this year... To be honest with myself in all situations, and to suss out what I really want.

The finding yourself part is a long journey in itself...

I dunno. I think I forgot to take a pic...

I slipped over on Sunday morning. It didn't seem so bad at the time, but by today, my back was aching so much.

Came home after work and that's about it.

Oh yeah... I forgot about the eclipse too.

I finished work early today and spent the afternoon with my brother and his kids.

Orlando made this picture.

My back is still pretty blah.

Tonight I went to Life Group for a little while and then we all trundled into the Valley to see our friend Colin's gig. He was playing keys for one of his friends who was launching her EP. It was a really good set.

This is the view from a cubicle in the ladies' bathroom {:->

iOrpheus 06.jpg

This morning I got an email from my friend Jason telling me about a performance he was doing in the afternoon.

All day I was hoping that work would be semi-normal enough for me to be able to finish early and get across the river to see the start.

The piece was called iOrpheus and was performed on iPods, mobile phones, and laptops, along with interactive installations and live performers.

The musicians, singers and dancers lead the audience on a 2 and a half hour stroll through the South Bank Parklands and it totally blew my mind.

I would go so far as to say this was the most exciting creative event I've seen all year.

Afterwards a few of the posse hung out eating ice cream, cheese and chocolate {:->

Phew! Huge day.

This morning was the birthday picnic for our friend Gerard. The weather was an absolutely perfect Spring day. Gorgeous sunshine, clear skies and a gentle cooling breeze coming up from the river.

About 30-40 people turned out to celebrate and it was a really relaxing time.

In the afternoon, I spent a couple of hours drinking coffee and doing crosswords in one of my favourite cafes.

The evening was spent watching the Riverfire fireworks display followed by a party at Deb's place.

I got to catch up with heaps of friends that I don't spend nearly enough time with.

Came home relatively early and felt tired, but super happy {:->

Late night me

Today is Fathers' Day, so my brother Michael and I went to visit Dad for morning tea and a chat.

I spent the afternoon working through and uploading pix from the last couple of days and catching up on my diary.

In the evening I went to church. I had the day off band so I enjoyed being able to sit back and enjoy the service from the comfort of my cushioned chair rather than having to think about what song is coming up next.

Adriel et Moi!

After such a busy weekend, I slept in pretty badly this morning and ended up getting in to work later than I had hoped.

I met my friend Adriel for lunch. It's been two and a half years since she left Brisbane, so we had lots of news to catch up on. Of course we've kept in touch by email etc, but it's not quite the same as sitting in the same room and hearing her voice.

Tonight was band practice and now I'm going to bed {:->

Long day

Raining, raining and cold.

I met Christine for lunch which was lovely.

Can't really remember what else happened except that I finished work a bit late and went straight home.

Ceiling Fan

I nearly forgot to take a pic, so this is what you get for today.

Met my lovely friend Pete at lunchtime for what we thought was going to be a super duper event by a stationary company with heaps of free give-aways.

It wasn't...

We did score a cool water bottle though {:->

Tonight was Life Group and we had great discussions about all sorts of things that set my mind whirring.

Got home pretty late...

Mr Davis

Tonight I went to see Sean Foran and Friends playing at Jazzworx.

My friend Jason was one of the "friends" who played and it was a pretty awesome set with a great mix of new compositions and covers of jazz standards and even some Radiohead stuff.

Afterwards, Jase, Shelley, Craig and I went off in search of beer and food.

Sounds like an easy task, but it took us ages to find a place that wasn't playing crappy pub rock, filled with sleezy drunkards or closing.

We eventually found a place and had some good chats and laughs.

Moreton Bay

Today is my brother Michael's birthday.

We all tootled down to the waterfront to have fish and chips and for the kids to play on the brand new playground.

Afterwards, we went back to Mike's place to watch DVDs and our other brother Simon, his wife Maggie and daughter Eliza stopped in for a visit.

Caught up on the last week of my diary and chatted with my Finnish friend Anniina on Skype.

This is the first time we have spoken to each other since she went back home in 1988. All our communication has been by letter or email, so it was really special to hear her voice again after such a long time.
