eelend's 2007

eelend PRO 8:11am, 2 January 2007
So here it is. 2007 has arrived and I feel it's going to be a good year for me. Better than 2006, at least.
I think I needed some kind of change, some kind of rebirth. I don't know if this new year will give me the change I need, but I think it's beautiful starting a year (365 days, wow!) and I'm excited.

I'm glad I spent Christmas with my family, and here they are. Only dad is missing, but well. Next year, we'll see him in this picture:

wed.

Another relaxing day (in spite of the lack of sleep).
I went on some errands and I stood at home most of the day, because I felt a bit sick (cough, sore throat...). But well. I took a pair of aspirins and read some comic books and watched TV.
Not bad, huh?

Dragonhide 11 years ago
What comic books do you like?

I like the huge contrast between the blue and the tanned skin.. Eye-piercing!
eelend PRO Posted 11 years ago. Edited by eelend (member) 11 years ago
mmmm a little bit of everything
i like alan moore, craig thompson, david b., dave sim (Cerebus is amazing), roberta gragory, marjane satrapi (although i think she's a bit smarty pants some times), peeters, baudoin...

yesterday, i read Brooklyn Dreams again (by J.M. deMatteis)
i bought some years ago and i like it so much

do you like comic books? which ones?
RobW_ PRO 11 years ago
Well, you promised us colour, and colour we get. Very bright blue, wonderful contrast, and the water drops on the skin are... enticing.
Dragonhide 11 years ago
I knew I recognized "Alan Moore".. so I looked it up-- Watchmen! I liked that. That was one loopy comic!

I got to check Cerberus out... I missed out on that. Looks fascinating.

I have not kept current with comics in a long time- other hobbies took priority (I have too many!), but when I was a serious collector, I liked ANYTHING Spiderman, and the works of Todd McFarlane, Brent Anderson & Steve Dillon.

Nice to geek out about comics with someone, I haven't done that in years.

Congrats on your decision on the new job, i think you made the right one.

Reading comic books ans watching tV it's always nice, a quiet day once in a while feels so goood.

I visited the neurologist again and she told me that everything was fine. No damage, no disease... she thinks that the right side of my face –which is still numb– will be ok soon.

In the afternoon, I went to the dojo to meet my kendo mates. We had organized a party for David, who's marrying on Saturday but, before going out and drinking a beer, our sensei made him fight with a horrible blow up doll, hahaha!

It was great. He was very happy (and surprised) and we (20 people, more or less, and the uggly doll –enough for having a good time, huh?) had a great time together.

I bought a PDA today. I had to.
Too many things written in too many different papers or notebooks made me think of it and, finally, I did it.
I spent the whole day recording e-mail adresses, phone numbers, post adresses... in it.

And, after that, I had dinner with Iván and we met Jaime and Adriana at the pub where she works.
And hey, it was great. We came back home at almost 5 am :)

Wedding day.
David (one of my kendo mates) and Montse got married –they've been living together for seven years. It was time :P
It was a nice and a bit unusual wedding, because we listened to the Star Wars Theme instead of the wedding march, haha

We danced and met a lot of people and, although it was raining, we had a great time.
I came back home with a terrible pain in my feet (that's what happens when you dance for hours wearing high heels) but so happy :)

I went to the IITM and had lunch with Iván, Delphine (the French girl who's coming with me in the cruise), Raul, his sister (who also works at the IITM and whose name I just forgot :S), Fernando and Ángela (their boss, a fantastic woman who I admire so much).
When we came back to the office, Delphine gave me some books I have to take to the cruise and explained some new things about the trip (there are so many things I still don't know anything about, though).

And then I had a relaxing afternoon at home (oh, yes, I love these days)

Adriana came home because one of the taps was dripping –and I'm sooooo clumsy for these things. I would have flooded the whole place if I tried to fix it. But she did it :) and we went out to have lunch together.

And I had a nice afternoon when I came back home. I sewed my new trousers (they were too long), cooked when I could (the electric current was crazy in the whole building and it came and went for hours) and read The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, by John Boyne, which is not as good as I thought it would be.
It's a nice narration, but a bit simple, in my opinion. Anyway.

I had lunch with Rebeca because she's been on holidays –and traveling– all summer and I hadn't seen her since July. We went to the China Té restaurant (mmmm I love it) and we talked and talked and talked until we got ourselves updated.

When I came back home, I printed some things I must take to the cruise (poems, texts for the children –well, not children, really; on Monday, Delphine told me they are teenagers–, etc.) and picked up the present Iván and me had bought for our friend Max. It's a sword-stick hehe and we had to buy it in France because it's illegal in Spain. But it arrived at last and we're going to give it to Max before I leave!!!

I had dinner with Jaime, Adriana, Sara (I posted her feet some weeks ago), Isabel (a friend from Bilbao) and Tamara, Isabel's friend. After dinner, we went to discotheques. I hated it. To tell the truth, only Isabel and Tamara liked those places. The rest of us felt like an octopus lost at a garage :P

But we had a great time anyway. I was fantastic to see Isabel again.

I didn't sleep at all. So I had a shower, waited for the taxi to arrive and went to the airport (at 4 am!!! Jeez).

It was a nice flight –although the meal was terrible– and I finally arrived to Viena, where Marc Cohen was waiting for me. I also met Muriel, who works at the IITM from France with Marc, and Marianna Szalay, an Hungarian actress.

We went to the ship, the Theodor Körner, where I saw Delphine, the girl from the Spanish IITM, who was also my roommate. We had nothing to do until night, so Marianna and me caught a train and went to see the city.
We took some pictures, visited some bookstores, had a coffee... and we talked a lot about our lives and the reasons why we were there.

Back on the ship, we met lots of people: Richard Martin (a great actor from the French IITM), Mátyás (an Hungarian poet), Emilio and Federico (Spanish radio presenter and technician)... so fantastic.

I went to bed very late. But it was worth it :)

First stop: Hainburg.
And first poetry workshop. We (the musicians, Delphine –the girl from the IITM– and me) worked with six children from Hainburg and it was ok. I took some photos, but they weren't very good, because of the light :S Anyway.

In the afternoon, we went to the Kulturfabrik, a building built for exhibitions, performances, readings, etc. Richard Martin read some texts written by Leo Ferre, and it was amazing. I couldn't understand very much because he talked in French, but Delphine told me what he was talking about, and I liked it very much.

Back to the ship, the International Orchestra played on the deck. My God!!! It was wonderful!!! They had practised just one day and it sounded like Heaven.

After that, we (people from Mexico, Camerun, France, Rumania, Hungary, Spain, Serbia...) were talking and drinking and singing at the bar until 4 am.

:)

Perfect.

Bad weather (rain, cold...). There was a meeting to decide what was going to do with the poetic marathon at the ship. I confess that I didn't understand anything, because everybody was talking in French :S Luckily –as Matyas told me later–, nobody said anything interesting and they had decided to meet again on Tuesday ??

We left Hainburg and went to Bratislava. I went to see the city with Delphine and Emilio, took some photos, bought T-shirts and CDs for Iván and Jaime, a pencil for my sister –every time I travel, she asks me for a pencil from the city I'm in, haha–... and we saw Ramón Solano and Montse Díaz (the two wonderful mexicans) doing their performance. They were FANTASTIC.
We came back to the ship at night –and under the rain–, after the International Orchestra show.

We wanted to go out, but it was such a bad, bad weather, that we stood at the ship :)

I went out to see Budapest with Delphine and Salah. We got lost :P and we had to catch a taxi to come back to the ship in time to leave to Belgrad –the driver didn't speak English nor French, so we had to draw a ship on a piece of paper to tell him where to go :S

After lunch, I was at the Poetic Marathon. It was so boring... thanks Heaven I was with Emilio –the man from the pic, a radio personality in Spain–, because we had a very nice conversation while we was sailing through Belgrad.

And we had an improvising night: Montse and Ramón improvised a performance while Richard Martin read poems, and Didier Lockwood improvised an amazing violen concert.

Although I was having a great time, the night soon ended for me. I was so tired, that I decided to go to bed and sleep more than 3 hours for a night :S

I think I've lost a day :S
Anyway

I'll write about the weekend and not day by day, because the facts are starting to mix inside my brain and I don't know exactly what I did in which day.

September 7, 8, 9
weekend

When we arrived to Belgrad, there was a band –Kal– waiting for us. They played some songs and then we went to see the city. Ángela and Raul (Delphine's boss and partner) came spend the weekend with us.

They were very happy with the workshop we did with Serbian teenagers. Sinisa –the Serbian actor– and Bane, the singer of Sunshine –he was so, so nice. The truth is that it was amazing. Imagine: 30 teenagers playing music and dancing while they read poems about their life and the situation of their country.
I was so touching.

After another concert played by the International Orchestra, I bought several CDs (Gypsy and typical Serbian music) for my friends and Vojdam –the Serbian musician from the ship– took us to a wonderful and typical restaurant –that was on the river! :O
We (around 20 people) had a great dinner and we ended up singing and dancing again. Vojdam's family was also there and I danced with his mother, hahaha!

On Sunday, we said goodbye to Ángela and Raúl –they were coming back to Spain– and Emilio and me went out to see Belgrad. It was an amazing day. We walked a lot, we went to a street market where he bought a pair of jeans (and the salesman thought that I was Emilio's wife, hahaha)... and we had a long lunch with a looooong conversation and two coffees. How nice.

We arrived late to the meeting at the French Embassy, but we didn't care :P It was almost time to come back to the ship, because we were leaving to Turnu Severin (Rumania).

We were supposed to rest a bit, but we didn't do it. Emilio and Federico told us that they wanted to record a radio program with us, so there we were, from 00:30 to 2:30 am, talking (my third interview, hehehe) and playing... we were like children :)

It was a calm day.
I woke up early –9:00 am–, but it was already late for catching the bus and go on the guided tour that it was organized for us :S
So I was reading and writing, and it was nice. At last, I had a little peace to do something :)

We traveled to Cetate (Rumania), a small but very beautiful place. We arrived at night, just in time to have dinner. It was really AMAZING. We ate with the inhabitants of Cetate (and there lots of food: vegetables, legumes, pork, lamb, duck... and litres of rakia and palinka), while two old men played the violin and the accordion.
After dinner, the International Orchestra played some songs and, after that, there were two concerts: the first one, by a Rumanian rock and roll band (great!!!) and, the second one, by a typical Rumanian band. When this ended, the old men played again (with Cuco, this time, who lent his accordion to the old man) and an old woman sang some songs.

And back to the ship, and back to no sleep again (we could call it "The Sleepless Cruise", don't you think?).

It was a cold, cold night, but we had dinner at a Bulgarian restaurant and came back to the ship very late at night. Went to work, came back home, had lunch (at 5 pm, I didn't know if it was lunch or dinner) and went to visit my kendo mates.

It was great. Everybody got surprised with my hair :P and we talked a lot about my trip and what have been they doing these two weeks. María and Celis took me home and I just could die on my bed when I got there.
I really, truly needed to sleep more.

Wow! Catching up from 9 days ago, wonderful experiences, wonderful photos (I need to visit your stream later to get the full experience).

I so admire your capacity to function without sleep. You are a true late-night party animal.
