Yup, dice are tumbling, dice are rolling, dice are flying through those sixes and snake eyes. Is it going to be fabulous? Is it going to be a complete disaster? Every plane takeoff has a point of no return, an X on the tarmac, where you've either left the ground or you're hitting the fence at the end of the runway.

Damn'ed if I know, but that X has June 29th written all over it.

T minus 18 hours until the first iPhone is released into the wild. The day before any big product launch (that's not a secret) we have a company tent revival, er, I mean, meeting. The Steve comes down from the mountain and speaks to us. It was very emotional, very St. Crispin's Day speech — tomorrow we change the world, today is the last day before the revolution. (1) That field was a superfund toxic cleanup site and (2) the cranky old man who runs the place won't let you pull down the leaves covering the ears to check for worms and dented kernels before you buy it. (The roundness of the kernels tell you how fresh the corn is.)

CollardGreens, swear to gawd, real conversation I had this week...

I was calling Microsoft because there's a server based tool of theirs that we use and it wasn't working -- turns out that their servers are down, nothing to do with us. And the guy says, well, maybe there's no entries for iTunes 7.3 because you only released it Friday morning and maybe no one's downloaded it yet. It's only Monday. And I said, well, you need iTunes 7.3 for the iPhone and I roughly know how many iPhone have been sold so I suspect that people have downloaded and run the new version of iTunes. And he said, well, Apple only released the iPhone on Friday -- are you sure that anyone has really purchased one yet?

WTF? I'm beginning to believe that like China, Microsoft is blocking key news stories from their Google feed.

fireworks II

July 4th, in California, personal fireworks are illegal, so they tell you the only way to see fireworks on 4th of July is to go to these venues where 100,000s of people are in tight little spaces and it takes a hour to get in and park and another 3 hours to leave.

Instead we went up on the hill above the valley and parked in a field where we could see all 4 of the major firework displays way off in the distance.
