The first day of this year was spent in front of TV with Matrix. I have seen the first one before so today I watched the other two. The flat is a mess. But I guess it doesnt have to be clean on the very first day, does it?;) Today Im going to watch Twin Peaks. They start to show it in FIN again. Heard so much about it so have to check it out! Kari even bought a soundtrack few days ago!!

@Sam: thanks! Well, what can I say - I love to receive mail!!

@Jissy: thank you! That radiator took 4 painting sessions! Boring, but was worth it:) We also have a blue one in bedroom! The three boys in pic are Kari sister's, the girl and the smaller boy next to her - sister's husband's brother's kids.

I miraculously emptied the box in our living room and sorted out all the stuff (mainly magazines, flyers and other paper stuff): what stays, what Kari has to check out and what goes to the recycling conteiner. It's spacious and clean now!

From tomorrow on Im starting to write all the to-do things on post-its and place them on the shelf wall. Each day I have to remove at least 3 post-its. Hope it will make me do more useful stuff while Im unemployed. P.S. I borrowed the idea from Jocelyn.

Today: slept VERY long. Thus the day was short.. Did laundry, dishes, wrote a letter, went to post office to send few packages (the gifts to my dear ones I bought few days ago!), worked on my Russian, visited few book shops - tried to find "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini, Elisabeth said it was very good. Didnt find it here, but tomorrow I go to Helsinki, so will check out there.

Helsinki was a good change. Havent been there for a while. I checked out some shops while Kari was in a meeting. Then we continued together:) Lucky me - found a shop with a 50% discount on ribbons. Yay! :)

I like a lot how Helsinki looks in the evenings with all the lights. Beautiful. Especially in the area of railway station.

A little deer that wanted to be my today's shot.

January 24, 2007

It's been snowing all day. I checked few times from the balcony how the view outside was changing. I like a lot how softly that lamp lights up the yard.

Slept long again.. So ended up having a short day:) Received an offer from LT travel agency Bartika to help arranging a fishing trip to Finland. Will see what I can do. They are paying! ;) Cleaned a bit, did dishes, prepared homeworks and went to the language course. Came home to find Kari in the midst of our dinner preparation! Yum!
We are going to Joensuu tomorrow. I have been thinking a lot if I should stay at home but my reluctance to spend three nights alone won over... :)
Going to clean a bit more and then maybe read before sleep. 6 hours on the road tomorrow!

Hello - I do so like Finland in the summer ! My first trip ever to Helsinki I stayed in a hotel just in front of the train station (February and lots of snow). I agree that the square there is very nice. Happy shopping !!

CollardGreens: Oops

Thanks Sam, it's fixed now. I think it went this way because of the 2nd page.

CollardGreens: Finland is really beautiful with a lot of snow! But I prefer it in summer too:)

Love your photos. :) Especially the last two. Snowy Finland. I'm glad something never changes.

Russian is very difficult so good luck! As for me I finished Russian school in Estonia (my dad's of Russian origin so he insisted) and then I graduated from university in StPetersburg, Russia. I had some extra-curriculum classes on how to teach Russian to foreigners and it seems to me that writing is the hardest part for them. :)

So, 6 hours on the road.. Im glad it started to snow recently because otherwise we wouldnt have had these beautiful white views. And everything on the way would have been grey and dirty.
We listened to Drip, Reservoir Dogs soundtrack and Chris Isaac.
In Joensuu, spent three hours in the office, then went to have lunch with Kari's dad, watched Finnish Idols (Im following it cos there is a Lithuanian guy participating!! How exciting, he basically speaks no Finnish and they let him through anyway!) and ended the evening with Lost and some new serie about Bermud (?) triangle.

January 26, 2007

I slept 14 hours today.. Woke up around 1pm just because the phone rang:) Must have been the early waking up yesterday and all those hours in the car..
We are staying at Kari's dad's place. Nobody was at home when I woke up, so I had breakfast and then worked with my russian all the time. Got really bored!:)
Then men came home and we drove to check out some cars. Me still bored.. And Kari teasing that I choose a car by its colour;) Then we got home to have dinner and Kari tried to fight my boredom by dancing with me:) It worked! ;)

Going to watch "Babel" in one hour!

@Ana: I have trouble with few letters - never know how to use them correctly but it's ok as I have just started to learn writing :)
I like St. Petersburg a lot! Was there in November, cold and wet, but so beautiful! Want to go in summer or early autumn some day.

@Sunshine: No worries! :) Yeah, snow is catching up for being away so long!;) Thank you for nice words.

The day started with Ana Karenina and practicing russian while men test drived some more cars. After that we went to watch a weightlifting competition in a local club, called "Puntti-pojat", where Kari used to train. After competition the club invited every body to have tea or coffee together.
The highlight of the day must be my test of "how-long-I-can-stand-being-deadly-bored" in a restaurant with people speaking only Finnish. Test result was 2 hours;)

Again 6 hours on the road... It's somehow more difficult to take a trip when it's a coming back trip. It felt sooooo long this time.. Especially the last 26km ;)

Kari dug his nose into the car magazine and I into flickr as soon as we got home;) So good to be back and be lazy!
karinga 11 years ago
@Sam: You are almost right because I dont study Russian, I am only learning how to write Russian :)
@Simon & msspider66: Thank you. It was so beautiful that I didnt get bored watching outside the car window this time :)
@dda1605 & davebluedevil: I have been looking forwad to seeing "Babel" and I was lucky that Joensuu cinema still had it running. I liked it. Even if it was so sad, somehow it gave hope. And some food for thought. Was strange to see Gael Garcia Bernal in this part. Liked Cate Blanchett and Adriana Barazza (the nanny) a lot.

The picture is of a Jasmine bloom. I was very excited about how it will open in the water. I hoped for a big full Jasmine blossoms but only little sad looking ones appeared.. Anyway, I have been looking forward to watch that bloom open and I am glad I saw it. The result being not the one I waited for, the expectation and thrill made me feel good. The tea was nice! :)

I am reaching out. Dunno for what but there is something I have to grasp and can't. Maybe tomorrow. Or then after a week or two. Hope I can do it this year.

Spent most of the time at home. Was out only to shop and employment agency to pick my work certificate. Was looking for info on that fishing trip. Made a card for Anu (Kari's sister): she has been surprising me with little craft presents and I wanted to thank her with a card. I used her presents to make it! :)

Tuesday evening. It's again full of tension because of "Prison Break". Arghh!

My eyes hurt. My head is exploding. I feel tired but my mood is great. Because I did a lot of work today. It was a useful day! ;) And full of fishing. I have to tell Im starting to know quite a bit about fishing in Finland:)

Also met my Russian teacher for a consultation. Visited my optitian and he cheered me up by saying I dont have to pay for his services (check outs, eye drops, few types of contact lenses). How cool is that? He said that something in this life should be free. Heh. Maybe he just knew I am unemployed ;) Well, he acquired a faithfull customer for sure!

The day started with a trip to Helsinki, where:
1. I visited few shops while Kari was in a meeting. Bought shoes! And found little something for Jissy ;)
2. We found a factory shop for Cottonfield, Matinique, In Wear, Jackpot and Peak brands. Sales. Everything 3-15e, except jackets and windstoppers. Yay! Unfortunately, I didnt find anything for myself ;)
3. We had lunch in Helsinki outskirts in a restaurant called "Persilja" (parsley!). The cook and waiter were Italians.

Then 6 hours on the road to Joensuu. It's so beautiful here with all the snow lit by moonlight and the lamps. Missed Idols today, hope they kept Ruslanas.. "Lost" surprised a lot! Michael killed Ana Lucia, Libby and then himself! Blah!

Looong day:) Woke up early, and spent most of my day in this office. Did that fishing trip related stuff, checked on fellow flickers. Had lunch with two nice Kari colleagues Henri and Jussi:)
After office day we attacked Hesburger, went shopping for food and some nice drinks;) and finally reached cottage. Here we are now, watching TV, eating spicy HK Potku meat balls and enjoying a fireplace. So cold outside. And so snowy.
I had a surprise from Kari today:) A great treat for a candle lover!

Cannot remember much of that day.. That's what happens, when I delay in posting the pics! Put the Internet connection was so painfully slow in the cottage that I gave up. And anyway, cottage is for resting, not hanging online, right? Right!

We have a basic plan for our summer trip. It's going to be expensive.. I need a job!!! Number one excitement for me - we will drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco. The road goes next to the Pacific!! "California dreamin"...

Ok, on Saturday we cleaned the cottage.. Then had guests! Kari's friend Tero and his family came to visit. The kids were such a cheer up! Laughing, skiing, and so joyful to see videos of their own skiing and falling into the snow:)

Then.. Watched a movie with De Niro "Men of Honour".

And enjoyed more fireplace...

Sunday. Very cold. We had sauna that was cold too:) The floor was icy cold, I had to wear shoes;) But we had really good löylyt (mm, dunno in English...- heat that descends when you pour water on the stones). Cant remember what else we did.. The weather was beautiful! Clear skies and sunny. Kari went to drive a snow scooter but I didnt feel like putting all those layers of clothes on and leaving the warmth of the cottage so just went out to snap some shots:) 24 and Twin Peaks in the evening.

We had dinner with Kari's dad and then went to visit Kari's goddaughter Kristiina. I have heard much about her but havent met yet. Expected to see a little girl even if I knew she was 14 and tall but was surprised to see how grown up and smart she was. I had fun visiting her family and received a present from her little sister Sandra:)

Today is in the shadow of yesterday.
But I had a great morning. Because my Kari was an angel:) And I enjoyed my evening. Hey, so maybe after all the day wasnt so bad:)
These daffodils were 0.99 euro cents for 10. When I saw them I thought that something must be wrong cos they are so cheap. So I passed them by. Then I saw same flowers next to the cashier and thought what the heck, I want them! They cheered me up and they dont have to cost much for that.
Our USA Lonely Planet guide arrived today from amazon.com. They delivered it in two days! Yay! That's efficiency! We gave second thoughts on our trip plan and it might be that we will skip Las Vegas and go directly to SF. I still want a lot to have that coast drive so maybe we visit Los Angeles anyway:)

Lipton's "Russian Earl Grey" is one of my favourite teas. I always have it at home. And I even had it with me at work:)

Do you know that July 13th this year is Friday? :)

Morning went fast with fresh orange juice, breakfast, few emails to my friends, and trying to do my best in finding out whether there is a bus going to my work place. It was a challenge in Finnish I tell you, but I found it! Well, bus 15 wasnt exactly going to the place I needed but its route was closest to that place. I got off somewhere and walked to the direction of my work for about 10min. I found the place too fast as I had one hour in reserve in case I get lost and dont find it on time... What to do? I dont have the code to enter the premises so I just walked back to town! Crazy. It took me 20min to be back. It would have taken only 10min to be home from that spot! Then I turned back and walked another 20min back to work. If only I had known how close it was, I would have walked from home in first place!!

Well, now I know where bus no. 15 goes! And I know this town a bit better. I learnt for sure that everything here is within a walking distance!

Kari is in Joensuu. Im sleeping alone tonight. Who said life is easy? ;)

Goodnight!!

Simon, I think Russian Earl Grey has bergamot and lemon, whereas normal Earl Grey has only bergamot.
The cookie place was a very nice exprience. Now I know how they are done! Machines machines everywhere :)

I slept so long today.. Because yesterday, as expected, I couldnt fall asleep without my man and read American history till 3am ;)
My day started with good news - the cookie place needs me for one more, maybe two days. Yay! Now I can fly to Vilnius to visit my family and friends ;)
I cooked makaronilaatikko (minced meat and macaroni in oven) and went to see "Perfume" with Natasha, a nice girl I met in Lindström. Liked the movie enough to think of reading the book. Creepy, isnt it? :)

Today's shot is a tribute to Feb 14 and Wednesday - a selfportrait day, organised by Jissy ;) I didnt give it much thought because of all days today wasnt the day I wanted to picture myself. ;) But a deal is a deal!!

One of the pics not really related to my day.. But from my home. We have a shelf where we keep drinks and three little elves/dwarfs guarding them ;) A drink in the middle is from Lithuania. A present from my dad to Kari. Here is another shot of the shelf.

Today: work, shopping, dinner at home, one hour of flickr and emails. Going to watch Finnish Idols and Lost now:)

One more working day tmr!

p.s. no idols today.. tmr.. disappointed!

When I was a kid, one of my favourite things in the world was going out with my parents to look for pussy willows and bring some home. It symbolizes spring to me.
So, imagine how excited I was to see them on the way to work this morning!!!! I stopped to take a bunch of shots and thus was almost late ;) Here are more shots. Couldnt decide which one I like the most.
BTW: spring in the middle of feb? In the middle of COLD feb? Weirdo!

My day: was soooo cosy in my bed that didnt want to get out of it.. But did and went to work. I probably dont continue next week. Then Kari picked me up (yay! cos I wrongly estimated the length of my trip from work: it's 50 instead of 30min ;) ). Now Im stuck in flickr.. ;)
Looking forward for a promised salmon pasta today, then Finnish idols and a chat with my family on skype later on.

Jissy received my package and she likes it! I'm happy! :)

All day at home cleaning. And eating. And checking flickr.
"Goldfinger" on TV. Finns chose quite a bad song for Eurovision.. Thunderstone were much better.

Pussy willows! So fuzzy and springy. I like the one you posted and the one under "shots." I haven't seen them in a while... Need to seek them out this year. A particularly springy day here too.

These little figures were my breakfast today:) I had it together with Kari. We wake up in different time so we rarely have breakfast together on weekdays, but we catch up on the weekends. Usually lazy and still very sleepy :)

We went to visit the area where new houses are being built for the coming exhibition. And I made banana cupcakes. Otherwise not much done, lazy weekend, dont really know where the time flew.

Waiting for Twin Peaks.

these are so gorgeous? what cereal is it? we both really unhealty and skip breakfast, on the weekends we have brunch together, but its usually food that's been fry-ed up like eggs, beans, sausages that kinda greasey stuff!
