Follow the Light...

Our age is one of isolation. Perhaps this is a natural reaction to being stuffed in cities, our attentions constantly diverted by the media-rich, technological cocoon in which we live. It is easy to forget – your neighbor, the man behind the ticket counter, the woman at work, the last airport you were in. How can we possibly remember what is not in front of us every day?

Today we do not allow ourselves to forget. Today we do not allow time to triumph. We record. We use the tools of this modern age capture Light, to record one instant of a million, billion possibilities, there to be found, there to be recorded, there to be remembered. This is a great gift. We are the inheritors of a great tradition. Now, finally, here, we can capture the Truth...exciting, isn't it...? :)

Light = Truth

Hi, Frère Jacques
Long time since i came here last time. You, as usuall, have some great shots and I had to fave a few of them.
The ones that are my favourites are:
April 8th, great;
April 14th, Savannah looks lovely. I like the composition too, it seems you selected half the photo for her, and half for the window;
April 18th: Love plaques you know;
April 19th: Sussex house is great;
April 21th: Nice B&W windows, great composition;
and finally, for the 26th you came with another great sky with such beautiful roof tops and chimneys.

Hope everything is ok.

Alone on a windy night...

It was a windy night, warm and quiet. Paris felt empty, sort of hollowed out, missing her usual hum of life. I had the windows open to let in the street sounds -- a dog bark; two drunks arguing; police sirens and airplanes....

Friday night, end of the week. I didn't feel like going out, so I started image hunting in the apartment. Thisis from the kitchen window looking out into a ventilation column shared with the building next door. I liked the light here!!

Election Day. It was an odd day -- cool, windy with clouds forming as the day progressed. A friend & I walked around during the afternoon & there was a definite tension in the air. The Police were *everywhere*, including what seemed like batallions of CRS (French Riot Police). I hadn't realized this, but I lived just a few streets away from now President-elect Nicolas Sarkozy's campaign headquarters. So I went for a look. The funny thing is, the HQ is wedged into a neighborhood with a high immigrant population -- there is an African themed fast-food joint across the street and a huge picture of jailed Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan right next door. At the end of the street on rue de Faubourg Saint-Denis, there are a ton of halal butcher shops and Indian, Pakistani & North African restaurants. Sarkozy is often called xenophobic & racist. (From, among other things, his comments during last year's riots.) I think a lot of that criticism is a unfair, but time will tell -- the last politician I heard promise to be a Uniter, not a Divider went on to push through the most conservative and divisive agenda in American history and has attempted to dimantle 200+ years of very hard won protections and liberties...we'll see... :-/

Paparazzo momemt -- The photo above is of French actor Jean Reno leaving the building just after Sarkozy's victory speech. I couldn't catch Johnny Hallyday...

Hey Jim - just flashing through a few favorites. Have been out of range for the last 10 days (great!). I have always wondered what happened to "Lurch" from the original Adams Family and now I know (look at the guy behind Jean...Lurch's son??
