Hi. When it comes to rape of any kind,my thinking goes along the lines of CollardGreens (But instead of a blanket and a board, I'm thinking more along the lines of a sharp knife and and a towel to staunch the blood after the removal. Heh.)

As the parent of two girls, I thank all the parents of boys who raise their sons to respect women. So, thanks.

shit that sucks for your friend. i have a friend of mien who had the same thing happen to her only a few weeks ago... a very close call but luckily she managed to avoid it. And would you believe this guy called up the next day hoping they could still be friends because "nothing happened"!!!

I am getting to love your son more and more. he just seems like the coolest little kid and I love all the facial expressions and smirks he pulls!!

*Kicking myself for falling behind on your diary*

It was wonderful catching up... and it ended leaving me pissy- there's not much that gets me more mad than some dickwad taking advantage of others- especially sexual advantages.

The thought I entertain towards such creatures is the thought of systematically dislocating individual joints of their bodies while I practice all the jujitsu finishing holds.....

Sorry man, that it happened to your friend.
ebilflindas 11 years ago
Hey, thank you all for the thoughts, and welcome, friuduric to my diary!

Ted: Believe me, Batman was my first and all-time favourite superhero--I've got latent vigilante tendencies!

friuduric: I was raised by my Momma, and am now trying to raise my Son to be a strong, gentle man (I like your idea, too!).

sunshinecity: Thank you, and thanks for all the comments! Watch out, if you ever got to meet my boy, he'd have you wrapped around his strong, but gentle finger!

Tim: Yeah, sorry to lead you all down a primrose path of Summertime fun, only to drop the noose on y'all. And I like your thoughts, too. I could use a chin-na and point-striking practice dummy!

What I want to be when I grow up...

When I was a kid, I always wanted to play the saxophone.
Alas, my parents couldn't afford it, but rather than tell me so, they told me my hands were too small. I wound up joining the school band to play the flute. Later, I taught myself how to play the blues harp (harmonica). Now all I needs is a band.

Concerts in the Park is such a great, weekly event. As much as I'm ready for Summer to be over, I will miss these Friday evening community gatherings. Here we have Carrie, the vegan trailmaster; Erin, hostess of the annual Slip 'n' Slide party; and Beryl, Maestra of the Mango Salsa!

Well, my camera, as well as it's served me for the last year and a half, is really showing the wear and tear I've put it through. The flash no longer works, nor do half the buttons on the back--no more chimping for me! It still takes good shots when there's light, but when the lights are low, I have to work the images in post just to get something interesting out of 'em. Like this image of my old friend John, taken at his surprise birthday party.

Man, I didn't think it would be so hard to get rid of this phone--I even got it unlocked for use with other SIM cards, even overseas (it's a quad-band World phone). I took some photos of it to post with my ad, and those turned out to be the only shots I took all day.

Thanks for trying to keep up on dial-up!

Grandma's new puppy...haha

8-23-2007 4-37-38 PM

I laugh because she didn't want another dog. After their last boxer, Precious had to be put down (she had a tumor the size of a kids' league soccer ball), my step-father had been pining for another dog. My mom's not so cool with it 'cuz she has to stay home with Jenna (the new dog) and can't leave her alone in the new house for too long at a time. The bitch is smart (the dog, not my mom--wait, my mom's smart, I just wasn't calling her...oh, you get it!)--they left her alone once, but didn't dead-bolt the door, thinking no one would try to get in with a boxer in the house. So they just locked the door knob and left. The got home to find Jenna at the neighbor's house--she was able to turn the door knob, which when locked, still turns from the inside.
ebilflindas 11 years ago
That's right, Barry! =D Actually, being the omninvore that I am, it doesn't really bother me. It just made me laugh. I just try to imagine all the thought that went into that...
"Well, we can't say 'Flavored with Beef' because that part of the cow isn't considered 'beef'"

"Oh, you thought those were cows?"

*cue Tim's fortune cookie joke* ;-)

Nah, no iPhone for me Jray. As cool and slick as it's interface is, it's too wide for my taste. Even the RAZRs, to me, are too wide. I actually got my hands on a different SonyEricsson--the w810i--and I'm absolutely diggin' it! I like the SE phones, but their clam-shells might be a bit more prone the White-Screen-of-Death (which I experienced with a previous phone). Plus this new phone has a much better camera and is from their Walkman line. I never thought I'd be a big fan of device Convergence, but I'm really liking that I can be listening to my podcasts and not have to pause my mp3 player and take off my headphones in order to take a call. And with the camera on board, I don't care so much that my regular camera is on it's last legs!

[EDIT v2]
Ok, I found my photos for today...I call this one

As in, Claudia, the child-vampire in Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire. This shot was taken in my Mom's new house. At either end of the hallway is an atrium-like structure that lets in natural light. I find them a bit creepy, though. One of them reminds me of the original Resident Evil video game. The one pictured here, though, reminds me of the scene in which Claudia (and Madeleine) are locked in an open-roofed cell, left to perish with the rising Sun. Of course, I don't tell my Mom any of this!

Back to School Night

Our New School!!!

Everyone is sooo excited to start the new school year at our new site (this photo only shows a third of the school). I swear, I feel like I'm the one coming back from Summer break! It's so exciting--the smallest classroom at this new site is twice as big as the classrooms at the previous location. And it's actually a school--for the last 5 years, the school has leased space in a multi-use Medical building, which meant all sorts of people wandering the halls (not to mention the "pro-life" whackos [not that their opinions make them whacko, just their methods] who'd set up their disgusting posters right at the entrance of the school). Now, we won't have to cautiously escort 20-40 children across a four-lane thoroughfare so they can get some grass time. The staff and faculty of SDCCS have done so well with so little for so long, with this new facility, it's just going to be amazing x100!

Cameraphone works great ! I always liked it when the kids went back to school - meant the home office was quiet for a few hours !

Oh - driver of the gas pump pulling car was not polite enough to the police and they wacked him ! The Saudi police use a sort of a flexible hard rubber baton for thumping impolite persons...it works to keep the rest in line ...for example - I was ULTRA polite when questioned !!

Today we attended another family reunion/birthday celebration. With surnames like "Brown", "Strong", and "Niebert", it's always fascinating to hear the older folks speaking in their native Filipino dialects, reminiscing about life on the islands; when I was my son's age, it confounded me that these "white" folks talked funny, like when my parents talked on the phone. I talked to the brother of the girls in the picture about this, and he confided, "Yeah, people never believe me when I tell the I'm part Filipino." Yeah, kinda like when people find it funny that my last name is Brown.

Oh I'll never forget how I couldn't stop laughing when I saw that brand of tomato sauce from the 20th...
I Really find it so amusing how foreigners will take and old Italian word and use it to their pleasing...
Do you know that Prego means "you're welcome"?
Yeah... it's the You're welcome tomato sauce... laugh it up people!

Boy, you two have been busy! The beginning of school is always fun (and a little scary, too). SDCCS has lots of pics of smiling kids -- always a good sign.

I guess I hadn't gone deep enough in your stream before, I didn't know you are from the Philippines. I spent the summer of 1987 there. Very cool place! (Of course, our return plans were changed because of the August mini-coup, but still.)

Adventures on Sabbatical
RobW_ PRO 11 years ago
Hey Sunni: I think La Senza is quiete a good name - after all, the nicest thing about lingerie from a man's point of view (after admiring it) is to remove it!

In South Africa, we have something called a Prego Roll, which we imported from our Portugues neighbours in Moçambique - essentially a soft Portuguese roll with a piece of steak slathered with spicy Prego sauce - pub food standard. So, maybe Emil's sauce is really Portuguese, not Italian. Maybe Loca-Bandoca can help us out here?
ebilflindas Posted 11 years ago. Edited by ebilflindas (member) 11 years ago
Well, Gypsy, if you make your way over my my friends' place on Smith Grade, they make a mean peanut butter cookie from scratch!

You know what they say, Teresa, bad behaviour is just a cry for attention ;-) (really, though, are my panorama-ding-dongs spanning the width of your screen? Cuz in Firefox, my margins are fine...hmmm).

Thanks, Rob. You'll likely see much more of school (remember the first shot of it? It was that super-flexi-boy from their talent show) over the next few months.

Totally, Alex, I always think it's funny when companies from other countries use english poorly, and forget how ridiculous it is when Uhmerkin companies try to get ethnic with it. Yeah, I knew it meant you're welcome, but for some reason, I kept reading those big bold letters (Prego) as the Uhmerkin abbreviation for pregnant! Puts a whole new spin on the exclamation Flavored with Meat! doesn't it? lol

Ooh, you guys be moving to Europe, Barry? He'll prolly knock 'em dead there!

I'll tell you what, Marc, ever since those photos of yours, I've kept this secret desire to really take it up with the cameraphone, but the ones I had were >1 mp. Fire away with any questions about the phone--I've actually been playing around with FAR manager and PhoneXS for flashing and debranding--so far, I haven't bricked it! *knocks on wood!* And thanks for droppin' some love over on my stream!

Ack! You went in the Summer, Imperatrix??? ;-) Where, precisely, were you? In Manila, or did you venture out into the provinces? It's been 10 years since my last visit...I'd love to bring my son (my father moved back there about 15 years ago--he still hasn't met his grandson), but my dad lives on the island that's at the center of the Christian/Muslim conflict. When it was just me, I didn't care--and actually found it thrilling--but with the boy, I'd be too afraid of some (very real) pirates discovering that this little boy is the grandson of a city councilman (and great-grandson of the former mayor); he might be found more irresistible than he already is! ;-)
ebilflindas 11 years ago
Hey Rob! Not busy at the Freddie's yet, eh? ;-)

Actually, here in Uhmerka, Prego is, indeed, marketed as a pasta sauce. As I remember, it was introduced as competition for Ragú spaghetti sauce (which I don't see around anymore), which, if I recall correctly, employed the slogan, "Now THAT's Italian!"--whereas Prego, intentionally or not, used to use the slogan, "It's in there." lol

I had two college friends who had family in Quezon City, so they invited me along for a 2-month visit. We spent most of the time around Manila. I did whatever the family was doing: I went to the movies and "watched" a movie in Tagalog (Balweg: Rebel Priest), rode in jeepneys, we went clubbing (lots of clubbing!), ate bean ice cream, Balut (eeek!), but I passed on the Dinuguan (a girl's got limits, after all!).

We also visited Baguio. Oh it was so gorgeous in the mountains!

But no -- we didn't go south at all. I can see your concerns in bringing your son there. Was that the relatives he chatted with over webcam?

Sorry Marc, I haven't (yet) come across any such apps. Say, I forwarded a link to your stream to a family friend--she's gotten to ASL 6 (heavy on the Deaf culture studies), and we got to talking...I was talking about you and your photos, and she was interested in seeing them--so if you get some random comments from zipnlovebug, she's with me!

So you tried the balut, but passed on the dinuguan (kudos for your spelling!)? You're funny! At least there are different variations of the "chocolate meat"--some better than others--but with balut, the only difference is in how many days developed you want the little duckie. =p Yes, it is gorgeous in the mountains and cool--a great escape from the oppressive heat in the sprawling city. You can't even imagine how effin' huge Manila is now--it makes me think of Coruscant, the city-planet. And yes, those were some relatives Ren got to chat with--one of my aunties and a couple of his cousins.

Look! Up in the sky!

bearclaw ballmitt

It's a Bearclaw! It's a Baseball Mitt! There's a municipal airfield not too far from Ren's school. Maybe someone was practicing their sky-writing. We couldn't figure out what they were trying to say, though.

Haha, Marc! I am sooo kicking myself for not getting that one when I first saw this!

I was totally waiting for the finger to materialize, Rob! They had another go about an hour later, but still, no finger.

Hi Alex! I'm not much of a baseball fan, but I love bearclaws! Yum!
