Dragonhide 11 years ago
Good story about the blackbelt friend.. I have friends like that- I've been a lifelong martial artists, and it's amazing the intense friendship that develops when you sweat and bleed together. Then... everybody all of sudden moves on.

It's neat I think- knowing that you've got friends all over the place that has got your back.. ;-)

Bunny Blood... LOL
CollardGreens PRO Posted 11 years ago. Edited by CollardGreens (member) 11 years ago
Yep...similar only the boudin is pretty pure to one ingredient...

CollardGreens: Oops!
ebilflindas 11 years ago
That's right, BellaGaia, it's like the "Chocolate Meat", but made with "chocolate" bunnies! ;-P

Yeah, CollardGreens , some dinuguan is better (imho) better than others. I only like it when it's made with meat, not when it's made with other squishy parts.

It is funny how training in methods and techniques for mortally wounding an adversary can create such a strong bond, eh, jallen? But the same tools we use to harm can also be used to heal, right?

I don't know about bunny blood, but I have heard that there is a certain amount of "natural flavourings" (read: anything other than the actual ingredients that fall into the vat) allowable in foods like peanut butter and ketchup/catsup.

Say, "Sushi!"

Say, "Sushi!"

Stepping into the sushi bar, the octopus in the refrigerated display case caught my son's eye.

"What's that, Dad?"
"Octopus."
"I want that!"

He got it, and he ate it all! Usually he only eats California rolls or shrimp rolls, but he must've been feeling adventurously hungry. It was his first time eating octopus; he also had some red snapper and yellowtail sashimi. Most times he can be a picky eater, but not today!

My son used to LOVE sushi.. I make my own at home, but suddenly one day he decided that it's gross. :( Dang.

That IS such a touching story about the little girl and the angel... almost hollywood.. I expect miracles of some kind. ;)

That first grade classroom looks almost EXACTLY like my kid's preschool classroom, it's remarkable. My son will be starting 1st grade this August.... time flies.. and cool how our kids are the same age :)
ebilflindas 11 years ago
Яick, I know what you mean, man. I'm always trying to watch myself so as not to say anything inappropriate; because of my (lack of work) schedule, I get to hang out with all the Moms at school. It's kinda cool being one of the few Dads who are at there everyday, but it's kinda tough hangin' out with a bunch of cool, beautiful, but married women!

Me too, Izas! That's why I like my son's school--so many happy people!

I totally agree, Ted. There's a difference between mere vandalism and art.

Actually, Alex, the school is moving its location, so that classroom isn't available anymore. The new site will be even better, with bigger classrooms. I think my son's 1st grade class could use more girls, though, not more women! ;-)

SUPER KEWL, Tim! We've got kungfu and kindergarteners (soon to be 1st graders) in common! When I get around to making my own sushi at home, I'll be sure to tell my boy that I picked it up from the sushi bar. I remember when I was a kid and my mom would make sushi--I never touched it; but when I tried it at a restaurant, of course I loved it!

Well, once again, the boy and I are on the road. I'm checking in from my Mom's computer, in lovely little Taft, California, or what I like to call Bakersfield's Armpit. Actually, it's not too bad, 'cept when it gets shit-ass hot and the aroma of petroleum is thick and heavy in the air. I'm helping my Mom and her husband move into their new house at the top of the only hill in town, where the breeze cools things down and blows away the oily smell in the air. From their front lawn, if you look to the North and East, you can look down over the rest of Taft; to the West--oil fields. Behind them, to the South, the hill continues up a ways, so there's no view, but it would just be a view of the oil fields to the South, anyway.

I know it sounds idyllic, what with the smell and heat that seem to pour from the very bowels of the Earth ("it ain't Hell, but you can see it from here"), but in a couple days, the boy and I will be pointing our noses toward cleaner and greener (in more than one sense) pastures. We'll be going to visit our old roommates who now live in Santa Cruz! It'll be quite a contrast to this hard-right conservative desert we're in right now!

What this means, though, is that I won't have any pictures to post until we get back home in a week or so (I didn't bring my computer, or any portable storage, with me), but I'll be checking in when I'm able.

Happy Solstice, Everyone!

I'll get there early Sunday and toodle down the coast. If all goes well, I hope to take pictures all along HWY 1.

I've got one day to pack in a lot of sight seeing. Any suggestions, tips and tricks are welcome!
ebilflindas 11 years ago
Oh man, just about anywhere you cruise down the "The 1" is gonna be spectacular. We just spent the day toolin' around the area--downtown Santa Cruz/the Boardwalk; Foster's Freeze (gotta stop for some ice cream!); to Davenport to check out a beach that windsurfers (and Great Whites) frequent. I'm in love with this place, it is absolutely divine!
Dragonhide 11 years ago
I can attest to The 1... I've driven from LA to Montreay that way... OMG, stuff of dreams.

Rick, a small suggestion-
Just keep in mind to pad your estimates of the time it takes to travel Hwy 1... it's super windy and that sucks up a LOT of time... not that I minded an iota. :)

From the Brickyard

From Indy's old Brickyard

The old guy who used to own this house was on a pit crew at the Indianapolis 500--back when the track used to be paved with bricks. When the bricks--which replaced the track's original gravel and tar--were replaced by asphalt (except for the 3-foot--or yard--wide ribbon of bricks marking the start/finish line), Victor (the original owner of the house) was given a bunch of the pavers. He planted several of them, as you see here, in the driveway, while the rest were given away to friends, family, and probably a local museum.

Reflecting at Night

Reflecting Pond 7-10-2007 10-14-46 PM

While on the last trip, since I didn't bring my laptop, I got used to taking pictures with my mobile phone(s) (I was using my old, back-up phone while waiting for a replacement for my Sony Ericsson that had taken on the White-Screen-of-Death) because the card in my camera got filled up. Then with the July-Laziness Glory was talking about, I wasn't too quick to get the 200+ photos uploaded/edited. So I've actually been enjoying taking pictures with my phone--or rather, trying to get some decent images outta my phone, in spite of its 640 x 480 resolution. So the next couple days, until whenever, I'll be posting phonecam images. 'K?

This shot is of the reflecting pond in Balboa Park. It's summer, the Boy's not in school, so why the hell shouldn't we take a nighttime stroll through the park?

Friday the 13th!!!

Concerts in the Park: Trolley Barn Park, Normal Heights

Trolley Barn Picnic 7-13-2007 7-24-42 PMNothing to be afraid of on Friday the 13th when you're surrounded by friends

One of the cool things about San Diego is watching it develop. Not in the sprawled out real-estate schemed sterilization of the region, but in the cultural development. Sure, "America's Finest City" might be the country's 8th largest (by population), but it's still way behind others, like San Francisco, Memphis, and Seattle in terms of culture and identity.

Recently, though, many communities within the city have been working to improve their image and civic pride. The larger communities have annual street fairs that have become huge events featuring food, music, and art. The smaller communities, lacking the retail muscle to help draw traffic and $$$, have taken to smaller, more neighborhood-y affairs, like the weekly concerts in the park. While visitors are certainly welcome, the majority of concert-goers come from within walking distance. For a few hours every week neighbors come and unite with the rest of their community to enjoy some local music as the Summer sun slowly sets. There are no vendors (food or merchandise)--save for the Mrs. Frostie soft serve ice cream truck you see there in the background; it's all about laying a blanket out on the grass with your neighbors, listening to music, and letting the kids run around as the day cools--some tapas and wine are good, too!

Chris Erin Porch 7-14-2007 6-23-08 PM

We had such a good time at the concert in the park that we decided to get together again today for a bbq. Actually, today had been the originally scheduled day for Erin & David's semi-Summer Slip-n-Slide party (two s-n-s parties take place during the Summer--one early and one on the last/Labor Day weekend). Due to scheduling conflicts, the party had to be postponed, but some folks didn't get the memo (what good are myspace bulletins if you don't read them!?), so they insisted we have a little warm-up slip-n-slide party. Chris (above, in red) hosted us, but his yard proved a bit diminutive for proper slippin'-n-slidin', but not too small for a couple kiddie pools!

Some would call that a Board meeting - you know when you meet the lumber ? Anyway - if perp is known, and perp is not prosecuted then perp needs some words in his ear...if no remorse then "Without remorse" (Tom Clancey)

Perhaps too vigilante...but these are the thoughts that run through one's head when date rape comes to dinner.
