monday - 001 | 010107 | new year's dawn

Thought I'd wake up early for you lot and catch the morning sun! I never realised how pretty the village I grew up in was until this morning and quite how exciting it was waiting for the sun to peak through!

Happy New Year everyone. I hope you all (and me) achieve at least one great thing this year.

I've been working on my neuroscience essay for most of the day and as the sun was setting I decided that I needed to get out of the house. Little did I know how cold it actually is tonight but armed with my camera I decided to brave the cold and take a few pics of the bridge and visit my old school not too far away.

wednesday - 003 | 030107 | little gizzy

I love cats but I don't actually have one of my own. My Dad is allergic to their fur at my parents' and I'm not allowed any in my rented house in London.

This then is Gizmo, my firends' cat. She's fairly young and full of mischief and was a nightmare to take a decent picture of! Mainly because she was destroying the christmas tree!

But I'm not sure, if I would name my cat Gizmo. Anybody remembers the movie "Gremlins"? ;)

Yes, I remember that movie. It scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.

Cute, kitty! Meow!

Cats and I don't get along. I move too quick and they're far too small.

Well today I've not had the chance to go out and explore the neighbourhood because I decided that I must in fact finish this essay that I have said I've been working on all week, so, just to prove to you... here it is! The first draft! Done!
The title was:

"Describe the pathways and mechanisms for the production, distribution and reuptake of cerebrospinal fluid (csf). How may these be affected by hydrocephalus"

PS. I tend to not work on a desk! Can't fall asleep easily on there!
sarahwoo 12 years ago
Ahhh! Don't remind me. I am on break right now for my studies...not that I am writing essays like this one though....

I am sure you will see many pictures like this from me during the coming months - although I tend to be more a notecard direct to computer type person. :)

Its a sigma 30mm 1.4 and its the first time i've had a lens where the only thing I have to twiddle is the focus ring. Oddly its so much heavier than my telephoto. For some strange reason I've only ever bought sigma lenses, maybe its the that thery're decent lenses, maybe that I don't want to conform to always buying brand lenses for you camera or perhaphs that its the value for money... who knows!

That's a terrific portrait of your Dad, Ravi, good shadow detail and fab range of tones and he is very photogenic. Like the photo of the notebooks/essay, just seems natural and right to write that way - I always lie on the floor in the living room when reading or writing, desks are for computers and keyboards...too much like work to relax.

_sunday - 007 | 070107 | light

070107 | light

This is a late post for me today!

Sunday has been in a weird mood day. I've not been wanting to do anything so I've been in my pj's all day. Watched series 10 of friends and upto episode 10 of the new series of house. Yesterday I typed up my essay, today i printed it so I could scribble all over it and devour it... in fact I just managed to do 1/5 of it before I just kept staring at the black word till I thought I was seeing a magic eye.

I go back to London tomorrow too. I've been at my parents' for the holiday but I start uni again on Tuesday. I'm not really sure if I want to go back or not. Don't get me wrong... I love what I study and the uni I'm currently at so its not that thats bugging me. My parents are going through some stuff at the mo and its hard not to worry about them but I know they don't tell me all because they want me to concentrate on my studies but thats never stopped me! I guess that I'm seeing them much differently dince I moved from home, become closer to them and I've finally realised what they've done to put me through school etc. So I'm looking forward to going back to make them proud and do what I enjoy.

On the other hand I don't want to go back because it brings me closer to having to make a decision about what I want to do with my life. This holiday its dauned on me that... I have no idea what I want... Let alone how to get it. I've never been one to live for today, I've always needed to see where I was heading but right now all that is... blank.

So the picture is of nothing really in particular and is infact my bedside lamp. Its really old now, the fillings are loose and not holding the small piece of glass in place and some plastic once mented on it so theres a black splodge on the glass.

I like how your photo connects with your words...

I, too, have been feeling a bit lost. Such a strange and disturbing feeling but I am going to accept it for what it is and allow myself not to rush things.

I used to live in the future all the time, always thinking about my next move. Maybe I still so that do some extent but I have been putting effort at being more present...which I find really challenging.

Hang in there...and like LBT said...keep on posting!

A spot of trouble today. Something has been hijacking the svchost.exe on my pc and it just finally got too much to handle since starting up the computer would take 30 mins and then the sound would disappear!

Anyway I've only just managed to get back onto the net after reloading everything back onto the computer... So... This was my day!

Oh! I also started back at uni today.

I also have a question... do people use any photo management software? If so, what do people use to organise mass photos?

Nothing! lol... I just have a whole bunch of folders and sub-folders. But then again, I am a very mentally organised person. I pretty much know where everything is on my pc, same goes for stuff in my room, in my drawers etc. I may no be 100% tidy, but I am VERY organised.
I wish I were able to put this to use at work! It might help if I found a job first though... but it's the job that seems to no be finding me!

Hope your CPU recovers (with slight to no loss). Start backing your things up NOW! I hope a crash can be avoided.

I try to organize my images by date, since these handy digi-fied cameras stamp everything with it. I have to use folders and sub-folders, too. It becomes a mess.

I've been trying many things but none of them seem to be as sexy or as slick as I would like. Picasa looks the best but doesn't do as much catorgorising as i'd like and picajet has some very nice skins which is a possibility. Others like ACDSee Pro and so one are good but the display is so complicated to understand.
Adobe have Bridge which does what its meant to but does run exceptionally slowly and Lightroom is heading the way of apateur but again doesn't have as many catagory settings as I'd hope for. To be honest, i'm not really sure what I'm looking for anymore!

I was wondering how you go about making your pictures with the swirling water? I'd love to give it a try... but will probably make a mess of the place!

_thursday - 011 | 110107 | dna

110107 | dna

I had a late day at uni today, we finished at about 6 after a neurophysiology practical where we were zapping each other with electricity to measure speed of transduction through muscle. An interesting topic; really boring practical!

On the way out I was taking photos and I remembered that we have a display of DNA in our building. It's a bit of a reminder that Rosalind Franklin was one of the key players in discovering the structure working at my uni, Kings College London. The model is made from wire and flat metal and resembles the one put together by Watson and Crick... i think!

Anyway, it looks really cool so I thought I'd share it.

014 | 140107 | rizr

Sunday was an exciting day for me... I got a new phone! I missed the delivery so ended up having to go and collect the upgrade from Vauxhall which is a bit of a treck from home.

Originally I wanted to cancel my existing contract because I don't use my phone that much anymore and would like to pay less seeing that I'm still trying to crawl my way into the black from a student overdraft, so any savings the better. But I caved into the ease of having a contract and a new phone again!

I wasn't going to pay for an upgrade so asked the guy which phones were for free and this was the one he reccommended. Its a mottorola z3 rizr and was a bit unsure but now I've got it and been using it... Its actually great! As long as all you need a mobile for is a phone without all the extra extra extras and a fairly simple menu system. Its great... and I think that motorolas make the nicest looking phones at the moment!

This weekend was intended to be all about work. I've got an exam on Wednesday but I just don' know why... All I seem to do is stare at books and notepads and lectures and not seem to get anything done.

It's a bit of a bummer really because I enjoy the stuff but just don't seem to get the motivation to do anything.

I get Monday's off from lecutres so it should be a good time to study but I ended up watching 12 episodes of Ugly Bettey and most of season 2 of Joey. Silly ain't I!

This pictures is actually the tidiest part of my room and when I'm brave I will show you the mess that is the rest!

Funny, I have done the same thing at work for the last 2 weeks...cabin fever, I think ;) Good luck on the exam!

The TV shows' effect ^^ Since it's short, we can't realize how much time we spent in front of it...a real perversion !
Anyway, I'll be optimistic for you : you have an entire day left ^^
Good courage ;-)

I agree that Moto makes some of the best looking phones these days but their user interface is shite. I used to work in the mobile phone industry and my job was to test phones for the mobile phone company I worked for and I'd get to play with new phones everyday. I'm looking forward to seeing the new iPhone from Apple.

Enjoy your new phone... everyone needs cool gadgets.

ooooo... iPhone... I'm already in awe of it... But the problem is that it has so many features that use the technologies that aren't available in most of europe... So i'm just wondering which networrk will bring it out in the UK.

Another problem is that I already have all the devices I need. phone, pda with gps, ipod video, ipod nano, laptop, dslr, compact digicam etc etc... its likely to become just another gadget that is fun at the beginning but then drifts down to the bottom of the pile...

Sometimes is really hard to concentrate in something, specially if you have the tv in front of you. Good luck with your exam!
