Daily Photo Set: 2006, 2007
==========================

This is something I've been doing now for few months already, and look forward to post my daily photos here as well.

But let me tell you folks... it is VERY hard to take one photo each day... couple of times I have just managed it before midnight!
It is even harder to try to take "good" pictures or "interesting" picture or "relevant" pictures each day.

MY OWN RULES:
1. Take photo daily
2. Try to have them with some diversity
3. If something "unusual" (birthdays, trips, visits etc.) occur that day, try to have the daily photo reflect that.
4. Make no changes to the photograph other then red-eye, crop and straighten. - and even keep those to minimum.
5. The day is 00:00-23:59 (not as with some; from the time I wake up, and till I go to sleep)

How was the film?
Is Leifur and Islandic name? It's very beautiful.

And your pic, I love those colours!
Samrag 12 years ago
Thanks. Up again... after some difficulty actually falling asleep I slept soundly for 9 hours!!!!

Thanks... No Idea ;) Anyone???

Thanks. Yeh, I like it actually better now (just woken up). The background doesn't need changing!

Some sun on my flower YEH... (thanks)

The film was stupid... as all films with Ben Stiller. But it was not a disaster as most of them! And now the CG is getting so advanced and easy that even in a "small" comedy like this one - it is superbly well done!
Leifur is actually Þorleifur and is Icelandic name. I'll tell him you said that.
Thanks

DAY 22: 22. January, 2007 - Monday (343 to go) Home
22.01.2007 - Candy NO MORE
Now the soda has been on the ban list for couple of weeks or so... next stop... candy. Today was my last day. Yeeeehhhhhhh

My Day: Night shift week.... nothing happening.
Woke up around lunch time. Had to go meet my daughter and her mum for some serious talks. It was time really well spent and everyone went away happier person.

When I came home I unpacked couple of boxes from the storage room we emptied few days/weeks earlier. Did the dishes and some laundry. Played more with my last.fm account. Like this stuff. Checked up on Flickr... and

Went to work at 8 after some lovely veggy food and had a quiet evening with my friend from Kosovo. Terrible stories he has to share with me once I push him!!
My boss is going to his mum and dad in Sweden for a week, so my other boss (his wife) will be running the place for a week. He told me that he might purchase some trousers for me in Sweden... good price he says,... and he is buying some contact lenses for Dóra... not many bosses are this thoughtful...are they!!!?

Are these Quality Street? They look a lot like a big box of chocolate a colleague brought to work around Xmas. Which I ate a bunch of. I always seem to eat the most of everything that people take to work.

they seem so harmless...and, in fact, isn't chocolate supposed to be good for you. soda is a whole different story. i was told by my acupuncturist that if i were to do one thing and one thing only, it was to give up diet soda. anyway, good luck.

I had a huge box of Quality Street for Christmas, almost finished it in about two weeks... The blue ones with coconut went first. Then the cheewy irises. The strawbery and orange creme are the ones left behind! Still a handful! I gave them up but for another reason - doesnt taste as good as the rest! Hehe ;)
Good luck with your decision! I know I would be in trouble.. :)

DAY 23: 23. January, 2007 - Tuesday (342 to go) Home
23.01.2007 - Veggy Pita
And Heiða keeps making this wonderful veggy food... really nice stuff.

My Day: ... not much really. These afternoons seem to fly away without much of doing-stuff-to-write-about. Moved some drawers around, emptied more boxes, put together a bed for Tristan and put it next to our bed.

Then it was work again, not much to do. Cut some turkey, took some photos of me (see leftovers) and cut some onion.
All in all, slow day!!!

You all have me intrigued about this Quality Street candy; I've never heard of it--which is probably a good thing considering my enormous sweet tooth!

And healthy food is always more appealing when someone else fixes it--whenever I buy healthy stuff, it ususally never gets cooked. And when it does, it's never as good as when a friend is cooking!

Can I come over Sam? I'll wash the dishes, and our sons can play together! (my boy is 5; how about yours?)

DAY 24: 24. January, 2007 - Wednesday (341 to go) Home
24.01.2007 - on my way home
...on my way home after night shift!!!

My Day: Oohh I am having such dark days in my mind these days. For some reason everything is getting on my nerves, I am jumpy, angry and irritated, at everyone and everything. I wonder if it has to do with month end, too little sugar in my diet, the dark days, or what ever .... aaarrrggg, double aarrrgg, triple aarrrgggghhhhh

Tristan was sick today, so we had the afternoon for us. He was asleep at lunch time when Heiða want to work (as was I) and we slept soundly till 2 in the afternoon. After some Rally, and Cars and playing with his train set his mum came home and I drove to school.

And... after classes I went to work... and I'm back home.... Tired, irritated, oh... yeh... I told you all that already...aarrrggh
Going to sleep.

Answering to your question up in the thread. No sweets at all, my family has diabethis and I make a diet to prevent it. Once in a while, when I really feel like it, I eat a sweet.

Now, we all have these kind of days like your last ones, just think of the beautiful things you have in your life and forget about the rest. That's what I do when I start to break, think of my beautiful family and everything seems to be a bit better.
My thoughts are with you today.

Yeh, it is much easier to smile in sunnier countries. While living in Australia it was easier, that's for sure. Sometimes I dream of moving abroad again in order to get some light. There is also financial consideration - but living in Iceland is very expensive!!!

That is very nice of you - to be on diet yourself for you family. And thanks... his irritation will pass.

DAY 26: 26. January, 2007 - Friday (339 to go) Home
26.01.2007 - Tristan and sunglasses!
Ok... so I just posted another one in a row with Tristan. But it is a reflection of my day :) We have been spending the last few days together.
And isn't he just adorable.....

My Day: We spend the day sitting together in front of the computer and finding YouTube videos and watching some cartoons.
Heiða cooked wonderful food and after a bit of a nap I went to work.

It was a long night and began badly with some work related issues which got me really really pissed off!!! But it ended on a nicer note, when Einar and Bryndís (the owners of the club where I work as a doormen) came for a short visit. They were very pleased with my photos that I took Thursday a week ago. I placed them on their website and it is now getting 100 visits a day (mostly to this album, which is the one I added last week). The photos in the Flash border on the site are also mine. It is nice to know that people like your photos, and to know that they are being used. I am no longer allowed to come to work there without my camera =)

DAY 27: 27. January, 2007 - Saturday (338 to go) Home
Nightshots in Reykjavik City Center
I often take photos on my way home from work during the night or in the morning. These morning are always special because so few people are around. This photo is actually of empty streets and a bus driving past .... but I doubt you can see that ... I can be artzy fartzy as well.... just look at this one

My Day: I didn't wake up till about 17 in the afternoon, which was good; because that meant I managed few hours sleep. Bad; because the day was over =)

But even though my life at home can seem to be much ado about nothing - it is still always the best time of my day and my life.
Just being... just spending time being home with your little family.
And we had a big moment yesterday. Tristan peed in the toilet for the first time. LOL What a wonderful thing it is to witness something like that for the first time. To be there, to not be told of it, but to see it happen. Because this is like one of these clear obvious things in the development and growth of a child. He walked himself to the toilet, he lifted the seat and was clearly trying to use the toilet. Then Heiða helped him to sit down and within seconds he peed.

So clearly that was the highlight of our day =)
We also had a lovely time with Tristan as he squeezed once more into a cupboard. Those photos can be seen in the leftovers.

Went to work at 23.30 where my boss (remember, he was in Sweden) handed me this bag with three denim trousers. 'It's a gift' he said, when I pulled up the wallet!!!

DAY 28: 28. January, 2007 - Sunday (337 to go) Home
28.01.2007
My mum ... Love her ... means the world to me!

My Day: During the night at work we had all sorts of people coming in as per usual. When we close at 5.30 in the morning (on weekends) we often have a bit of a problem. Drunk people or just people out having great fun till the sun comes up, have difficulty accepting that we close. And they squeeze in when other people go out, or bang the door, or beg or argue, just to get our food. There is something religious about Nonnabiti, people say, and they keep coming and coming. Last night we had a very persistent guy banging on the door, waving me to come over. When I finally came over and spoke to him he begged me to let him and his Argentinian girlfriend in. Apparently she had last been with him in Iceland three years ago, and then tasted our food, and since then not spoken about anything else. And now she was leaving for Argentina in few hours and just had to taste it again.
Of course I could have asked stupid questions like... "if this was soooo important why are you leaving it to the last night in Reykjavík to come and eat" or "if this is sooo good why didn't you try to make it during the day... or maybe earlier in the evening"... but I'm weak so I let them in =) And took some photo of them.

Today Heiða woke me up at 15, but we had scheduled ourselves a bit of Sunday movie time. We watched Little Miss Sunshine and ate some veggy snack. After the film I visited my mum and dad.

On my way home in the evening I just had a real urge for hamburgers and Shake and Soda and Candy and More films and.... aarrrggg
So I purchased some burgers and Shake and rented a film, but skipped the candy and the soda. And we had ourselves the second 'lying-in-the-couch-watching-tv-and-eating-time' for the day

Day shifts next week

DAY 29: 29. January, 2007 - Monday (336 to go) Home
29.01.2007 - Jeep
I would love to take more photos of these changed jeeps we have in Iceland, but haven't found a good opportunity so far (even this was just on my way to work, in bad light, with gray background...)

My Day: My entries will get shorter, my photos will most likely get fewer (though always one a day), and my browsing and commenting will suffer as well. Working two jobs, taking three courses in evening school, enjoying some time each week with my daughter, having quality time with my family each day, visiting my parents, and spending some time with my friends - this all just takes a lot of time, a lot of energy and something has to give.
I am not complaining... just so that is clear - I am more explaining (mostly to myself) that I can't do everything, at least not always to the standard that I want to. Some sportmanship-methodology has to be applied here, and in few other things as well 'the important thing is to take part, not to win (not sure how it goes in English). Just calculated that I work on average 63 hours a week plus 5 hours at school.

Anyway.... had some money stuff/problem land on me today. Stuff that I can't really go into here... Sooooo F**king tired of money. Would love a world that didn't turn around how much you can spend. A world where you can live of a 63 hour work week!

New Australian guy coming in a for a test tomorrow at Nonnabiti. Trying to reach a girl from Boston that applied as well over the weekend (only part time though). This means that the only full time Icelandic employee now will be me. hhhmmmm

Well... shift plan to make, orders to create, homeplan to printout, project for school to finish, home meeting to attend to .....

No leftovers today... sorry ;)

Good morning ! I get the chance to travel in my job and one of the good points (remember that the best thing about travel is telling your friends where you have been !) is that I get to see how the rest do it...I mean the rest who are not rolling in money or using it as a medium to acquire. For the most part they seem to be happy - and certainly the pace of their lives is slower...seem to live a long time too. Not saying I would trade mind you but it is good to get perspective.

One step at a time gets you where you need to go - just keep putting one foot in front of the other..best of luck !

Well I've had the jet-set life as well. Had a very good career in Project Management which had me flying all over, chairing meetings and basically being in charge of large projects. Was I happy...No... It wasn't me - Having to push people to their limits, get things done,no matter what, calculating everything in dollar outcome, and having to lay people of - .... well simpler life is much better. Would love to just live on a farm - write novels - tend to my cows - have some veggies in the garden, take photos?? -

They used to call me 'Sam the Man' or the 'Icelandic Viking' or 'Sam the Iceman' - in Australia and in Germany.

Yeh, common over ;)

Thanx all - it is really nice to read all your comments of support - I feel guilty, as there is nothing really wrong, just me complaining - a lot of people (most likely most of them) have it worse then I.

Nope not rich by any means - or important for that matter - and generally train staff in less than first world hospitals - so my stress is not so high...but it gives me perspective to move. I do understand the need for quite moments however. Not moving tonight - full of spaghetti !! Zennn...

DAY 30: 30. January, 2007 - Tuesday (335 to go) Home
30.01.2007 - Visit to Tim
Reykjavík at night!!!!!

My Day: This morning I overslept he he... but only for few minutes. But it sets the tone for the day. At nine we had a new fellow, and Australian guy coming in for a test, and this evening a Boston Girl trying it out as well. So our staff has truly turned international.

Still I'm not as happy as one should be. The thing is that I like my job, and I like one of the owners, Jón. But the other owner is really making things difficult for me at work, looking over my shoulder, criticizing most of the things I create, and undermining the little authority I have at work. Just quit, you might say, and in fact Heiða is saying that as well. However, I feel that it wouldn't be fair to Jón. He has helped me out on many occasion, been there for me when I needed and generally not only been a good boss but a very good friend.

Therefore I am going to leave it up to greater powers to sort out this mess. You see, most of the time when I try to hard to control my life, I mess it up. There is no sense however in just sitting and waiting and being unhappy. I've decided to apply for a new job on average 1 per day and see if something comes out of it. The standard will be rather high (as I am not trying to jump ship), i.e. the other job will have to be extremely interesting and promising in order for me to leave my current job.

The reason I am writing this is to push me into this. It is very easy to be complacent and forget that you want to change or move on. It is often easier to complain, then to act in order to get to a better place.

I'll allow you (and the rest of the world that might be bothering to read this or my homepage www.samrag.com) to keep track of my findings and responses.

Lets see together how easy it is for someone like me to find a promising job in Iceland ... which also pays enough...!!

Job Application J030: Traveling Salesperson. Looking for a person to sell tools and kitchen ware. Car and phone provided.

Lately no usual suspects for me either. Just came to catch up on 2 or 3 diarys, no time for more. Good job hunt but just change it for a better one.
Nice picture of your town.

DAY 31: 31. January, 2007 - Wednesday (334 to go) Home
31.01.2007 - Blue Coca Cola
...ok....

My Day: Last night I did hardly sleep at all... well for couple of hours. So today I was like a dark dark matter at work.... he he - It was my EVIL Side. But it was also good, as I had to take care of some stuff at work that I did not find pleasant at all, but is however part of my job description.

I went home and was soooo tired that I didn't go to school. Something had to give... Argggghhh... Sam the Man, Sam the Iceman just fell asleep, then at pizza, and Heiða is now getting icecream, and we are going to watch a film... aarrrgghhh What is happening, where are my rules, my ethics, my goals... ... but it still just put a smile on my face.
Gladly, as I get older, I have allowed myself to be less then perfect, much less he he - Sometimes toyed with the idea of even being normal...(hhmmm... maybe at 40 I will accept that).

....ok watching video.... finish this in couple of hours.
....Tristan woke up... Heiða is with him... where was I. Well more or less done:

Job Application J031: Customer Relations. Find new customers, manage relations with current customers, help out with ad-campaigns, take care of the companies webside etc. etc.

Responses: NONE

Great Pic on the 30th. Do you have hills around Reykjavík ? Where from did you shot the city ?

And by the way : “Rules are not necessarily sacred, principles are.”

Take care

Yes we have hills and even mountains!
I visited my good friend Tim, and this is taken from his flat.

Yeh... good point regarding the principles!

i was by - hoping to steal your template for february quick links - but you havent got around to that yet i guess - shucks!
i notice the arrgghhh quotient is creeping up in your posts - i guess that is to be expected of a viking peopple - oh wait, im confusing vikings and pirates
anyway - i worry (im canadian, we worry) - i hope you can relax soon
:)
Inside out
P.S. arent you worried your bosses might read these posts?

omg! vikings and pirates.... TOTALLY A TURN ON

p.s. this is the first time i've ever seen a coke bottle and thought 'ooooh it's so pretty!'
Samrag 12 years ago
Well you know, writing about my 'aarrgghss' does in fact help, and make me feel better. Reading your comments is relaxing and somehow good to share, even though it is with complete strangers. My boss does in fact read this from time to time. I have as a rule that I don't hide things from him. I've already told him that his other half is more or less driving me out of my job, but he might not realize that I'm already actively looking for another job. On the other hand he knows me very very well indeed, and has most likely already guessed that I'm looking, while he knows that the job would have to be VERY good for me to leave!
You worry? - you always seem like such a non-worrier.

Glory be finding vikings a turn on ...TOTALLY A TURN ON =)

Wow, that reading all year's thread might be really time consuming! :) But a pleasant one! I have just read sunshine's posts from last week and it took me over half an hour. (Yeah, I decided to cut flickr time to make my boyfriend less worried - he thinks it's dangerous;)hehe so I visit like only three people's threads daily)
