Daily Photo Set: 2006, 2007
==========================

This is something I've been doing now for few months already, and look forward to post my daily photos here as well.

But let me tell you folks... it is VERY hard to take one photo each day... couple of times I have just managed it before midnight!
It is even harder to try to take "good" pictures or "interesting" picture or "relevant" pictures each day.

MY OWN RULES:
1. Take photo daily
2. Try to have them with some diversity
3. If something "unusual" (birthdays, trips, visits etc.) occur that day, try to have the daily photo reflect that.
4. Make no changes to the photograph other then red-eye, crop and straighten. - and even keep those to minimum.
5. The day is 00:00-23:59 (not as with some; from the time I wake up, and till I go to sleep)

You know... even if I'm the one that took the photo - I still saw sea urchin... which made me feel so much better about it (I always feel cheating when I just take a photo of what ever is in front of me,... and then end up posting that as the daily pic).
I also agree with you regarding the snow. Having blizzards, lots of snow and little bit of frost is fine... even a bit of fun. Having cold, wind, rain... that is unpleasant.

Yes, it is. something so optimistic walking through snow. Really enjoy it - and think I am also happy to be up that early... or that late... that on one is around and there are no tracks in the snow. Like you are the only one in the world, walking through this thick white snow...

and : thanx

Thanx and yes I must admit we do have fun together... and it is something I really treasure.

...wasn't there really bad winter in Europe just last winter or the winter before... lots and lots of snow and stuff... or is my memory just betraying me here?
Loca.... 11 years ago
Haven't found the time to read the days i'Ve missed, but I'll be back soon. This last picture is so great. Made me think of my grandmother, she was norwegian and was always saying Norway is a very cold place but it is so pretty, during the day the lights make everything looks magic. So does your picture. Nice one.

Thanx. I've really felt like that, specially in the old town of Reykjavik where I live and also after having spent time away from Iceland. Coming back again had me seeing so many things in Iceland differently.

DAY 14: 14. January, 2007 - Sunday (351 to go) Home
14.01.2007
My beautiful daughter ;)

My Day: Well... I was woken up by Heiða in the most pleasant way at around 14. Tristan spends most of his Sundays at his dads so we had the flat to ourselves.
After getting up I checked up on all of you here on Flickr (didn't leave many comments today... just had too much to do) - but I did go through my usual suspects.

I called Sigrún María, my daughter and we decided that I would pick her up so we would at least see each other for few hours. Outside was my car waiting, and it took me good 10 minutes to get all the snow of it!!! Sigrún María and I went to play some pool at the club where I sometimes work as a doorman. The owners are good friends of mine and have recently both purchased a dog and a website where some of my pictures are posted (i.e. the ones on the front page). That would be the first time someone "officially" uses my photos... oh, no... second time - the city council of Reykjavik once stole one of my photo for a calender (by accident) - ... so this is the first time someone does it knowingly. (I wonder if I get paid for this).

After playing some pool we went home where Sigrún María reminded me of how horrible I was in languages in school, when she tried to enlist my help in doing her homework. hhmmmmmm She had to learn the names of the 8 different ways you can write verbs in Icelandic.... not just the 8 ways you use and write the verb... no the 8 names of the different ways... on of them called "Lýsingarháttur þátíðar" aarrrggghhh poor girl

We took some more photos, but we common interest in so many things: photographs, pool, sci-fi, movies, drawing and vampires.
Sigrún María draws so well - and for those of you that are interested, you can take a look at some of her work here.
ooohh and she writes stories as well.
Here is her page on Flickr, and her thread in this group.

When Tristan came home I allowed him to relax in front of a car chase - one of his favorite things - as is playing rally with me, or watching cars, or playing with cars, or ...
Look at this: - he is watching the film and playing with his car at the same time, and making noises and everything... and the minute the chase is over - he gets of the chair... lol

Then I drove Sigrún María to a dinner party she had been invited to, and went to my mum and dad for short visit. I had finished the traveling storage disk for my dad and wanted also just to say hi. I found out that an old friend to the family recently passed away. Her name was Nína, and was just fantastic woman. I hadn't seen her in years but it is still sad. May she rest in peace.
Then I had to go rescue my sister and her daughter... with Flickr issues.

Got home and Heiða and I decided to watch something on telly together.. as we hardly spend any cuddling time together outside of bed. I'm so in love with this women, and just being in the sofa next to her is pure happiness.
We watched a film about the King... not to Elvis... an Icelandic one Bubbi Morthens.-

...she has gone to bed... I'm posting this... think I will take a shower, then crawl into bed...snuggle and cuddle... and sleep
...then I am on day shifts this week... 8.30 - 17

I looked at your kid's drawings. She's pretty and talented.

So, is your first name really Svavar?

Yeh I have a great fantastic teenage girl. And let me tell you I am lot older then I behave ;)
Love your witty humor, always brings a smile to my face.
...and yes... my real name is Svavar. When I first moved abroad everyone seemed to be having such great difficulty with saying my name that I began using the name Sam. For seven years that was my name!!! Today I still prefer Sam, but asking people in Iceland to began calling me Sam would just be arrogant and stupid, so I'm stuck with my old name ;)

It's lovely to see a picture of your daughter, I looked at your set and noticed for the first time how many of your pix are night shots -- is this because of your schedule?

I am very drawn to Jan 13 picture. The colors are soft muted and beautiful --- snow, snow everywhere snow! makes great phots for you though

I think it has more to do with how short daylight there is in Iceland during winter (at least from dec-mar). We only have 2 hours or so of real daylight, and if the weather is shitty, overcast, snowing, raining.. whatever, we loose even that.
But I do enjoy taking the night shots. Because so many of my photos are point and shot - seeing as the camera I'm using is just small (while Heiða has my 'real' camera) - I enjoy the ritual of taking night shots. Having to find a good spot to either steady my camera or put it down. To figure out the correct exposure time and so on.

But you are also right - you can't go very wrong with all this snow ;)

The USUAL SUSPECTS

ok ok... I'm always looking for some new things to do... and if it is any good, some of you might use it - which makes me very proud :)

There are soooo many diaries and I go through many of them on daily basis without commenting. But then I usually take few and really read from the last point I commented and all the way through... because - I don't want to miss a thing. And those are the ones I really would like to point out to others that might happen to read my diary.

Therefore I'll include a link to their diaries at the bottom of my daily entry.

NB: I'm looking through many more diaries, and commenting on many more - but... those few were my USUAL SUSPECTS of the DAY ;)

Ooohhh, and of course these are the ones I check daily

2 hours - not a long time !

I lived in Murmansk, Russia once for a polar winter...you sit in front of a candle and dream of the first day of sunlight...lasts 13 minutes ! (the daylight, not the dream)

Came to visit Iceland during one of your summers. Light all day - do you have to shut the blinds to sleep?

DAY 15: 15. January, 2007 - Monday (350 to go) Home
15.01.2007 - Peak-a-boo "See I'm here"
Now this photo is not even in focus - and I had some others that really could have been my todays photo, report card from Luliibe or one of my teachers or another night shot or ....(see leftovers)
... but I love this one - so I'm posting it ;)

My Day: Very tired now. Long day after only 2 hours sleep last night. Have, however, been a nice boy and a) not been hanging on the computer all night, and b) not going to hang on the computer all night.

Woke up very very very tired at 7.45... but quickly got over that once I stepped out into the freezing cold weather. Now all the young people are going to the Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík, most of them being driven there in huge RUVs.
Got to work... worked... made fun of mushy_mushrom and Brynjar (another fellow worker) all day.
Came home, went to school
Came home, had some 20 min quality time with my little family.

And then went to a movie with Jón (the owner of Nonnabiti) to see The Prestige (2006).

Came home... doing this - having really hard time keeping my eyes open... jawnnn Going to sleep.

Goodnight

Thanks. I do like it the more I look at it, even though not in focus. Tristan is also getting aware of the camera now, posing or not allowing us to take photos. On this photo he was actually playing around - doing peek-a-boo at the camera.

Thanks. Yeehh didn't get enough sleep - but I am not tired of 'everything' - really content and happy actually. (which is one reason why I am tired - having so much fun, that I am trying to do too much M)

thanx ... you are so nice to me as always.

Yeh I am of course doing this for myself, and therefore choose my pictures for me most of all. But I also want to be proud when I look back over the collection of the year. I suspect, that this photo will be at my favorite top 10 after the year.

Thanks for showing all this interest. And thanx for all the nice words. Hope that you enjoy my daughters drawings.

No worries - and I've now (as you can see with the Usual Subjects) decided to visit fewer times, but spend more time each time. Don't want to be running around.. but visit and then read and really look at the tread (even though I quickly glance at much more each day.... sooo curious) - So don't apologize for your absence... just make sure that I hear from you when you stop for a 'real' visit.

DAY 16: 16. January, 2007 - Tuesday (349 to go) Home
16.01.2007 - You talk'n to me?
...not telling...

My Day: Had a really good day at work. Gabriele and I had such laugh all day (when we meet - he is downstairs in the kitchen, while I'm upstairs serving customers). Just me fore lunch came Haffi, another colleague, and we spoke about computers all lunch time - making the day just fly. In the afternoon came Jón, the owner, and we sat down for coffee. We discussed some future plans for the place, had a laugh and he gave me some sound personal advises. It is really nice to have such a good friend in your boss, to be able to have a one-on-one chat with him about anything. I've known him for over 13 years now and he has never given me bad advise - the times I've done as he suggest have always paid off!

I had to sort and go through lots and lots of cans and bottles for recycling (from Nonnabiti). I took 1000 cans to the recycling center, knowing that you can only bring 1000 at a time (at that place - and my car didn't take more anyway). As I had given the guy all the bags I left telling him on my way out that I would be coming back in few minutes with more. And I packed at least another 800 in the car and drove there again. They guy went to me with this horror look in his face. "I'm sorry, I didn't manage to tell you when you left earlier - you can only bring 1000 a day, we can't pay out more a day to each person"
- so currently I have 800 cans/bottles in my brand new car - most likely dripping sugary-soda into my seats!!!.... aarrrggghh.. Heiða is taking them in tomorrow.

Went home and was tired so after having a fantastic vegetable meal that Heiða cooked I was ready for bed.
...unfortunately, Tristan woke up, and woke me up, and neither of us cn go to sleep.... took this photo of us, ... just now. He is sitting here in my lap... watching Chicken run on one screen, while I type this on another (team work).

Good night..

DAY 17: 17. January, 2007 - Wednesday (348 to go) Home
17.01.2007 - Too fast too focus

My Day: My day has gone by as the photo above. Too fast for me to really stop and take it in. At work I was working with Dóra, one of the craziest person I have ever meet, but at the same time very nice girl. Working with her however is like being in the middle of a tornado. We have known each other for many years as well but some 12 years ago I trained her in Nonnabiti101 and since then she has been working there - often with school (she is qualified electrician, and now studying to become a teacher!).
As usual on Wednesday (ok ok, not usual - but will be for the next four months) I had to hurry up to go to the school. Got of work 16.30, 'ran' home where Heiða came driving like maniac to get the car to me the quickest (she gets of work at about 16.10, and then has to pick up Tristan). I then drive fast to school which begins at 16.45. I barely got there in time!

There I was meet with the chemist and physic teacher, who in his soothing voice and calm smile put me right to sleep. I have a touch of sleeping disorder and should be on efedrin or other similar drugs to help me get through the day. I have opted out of using it, but that means that sitting in classrooms or driving long distances or other similar non-responsive activities, put me right to sleep. I've tried to tell some of the teachers in the past about this, in order for them not to get offended, but they have always just dismissed this as me looking for an opportunity to sleep in their class (aarrrggghhh)

Ok, jumped into my car and drove home to get 15min nap. There was Heiða watching Tristan in his evening bath. She asked me to watch over him as she was cooking some vegetable food stuff thing... And of course I said yes and didn't regret it as he was smile all around. Apparently he had cried his eyes out when I left to school one hour earlier. And I know it is selfish, but it is just soooo wonderful that this little fellow loves being with me so much that he cries if I leave (sometimes.... wouldn't be cute if it happened all the time...)
Got half a cup of coffee down after taking a shower with Triston in the bathtub. Back to the car, and back to school. There was English503. We are reading Amadeus, the play. I wasn't really impressed with that class... and when they decided to start to watch the film Amadeus I left as I have the film at home and have also seen it 20 times.

Went to my parents instead, had heard from my mum that she was having problem with her gmail account. We all chatted for a while. I love going home, which is nice as I didn't have that great relationship with my parents the first few years after I moved out.

Again, rushed out, drove home - it was now 21.30. ... aah wait.. sms on my phone - stop at a pharmaceutical and purchase pain killers for Tristan (teeth).
At home I ate some of the lovely veggy thing Heiða made (could get used to eating stuff like this - at least cooked - will be harder to go on the uncooked thing.).
Finally sat down at Flickr ready to read some of your threads, leave some comment, when Heiða asks me to do the dishes before I would go to sleep. aaarrrggghhhh So I do that, and 20min later I sit down in the sofa and fall asleep!!!
...Now I've woken up again... I'm posting only my photo
no checking on you guys - sorry -
no usual supsect - sorry -
no Blue Star - sorry...
nothing more today.

Going to put on Aliens in the tv-room, as I'm sleeping there tonight (Tristan will mostly have another difficult night - and I really really need my sleep...)
and fall asleep over the film. It is just sooo nice to do that - because I end up becoming part of the film, dreaming that I'm standing next to Ellen Ripley, fighting off Aliens...mmmmmmm (yes, I'm weird... I know... and if you need to ask.... "No, it is not a nightmare").

Yesterday was pretty crazy, and luckily today has been slower. And I did get a bit of sleep ;)

as always... such a nice film... I know it by heart, can turn away from it - just listen, and I know frame by frame what is on the screen!

hhmmm... don't really. Feel like I have no energy what so ever. Like 100.000 things more that I want to be doing. My days need to be 64 hours... At least... Wonder if there is a planet in the solar system like that - think there is one where one day is over 200 earth-days long... should move there!

It's funny you should say that, and few years back I would have agreed with you. But today, I do most of the things for myself or those I care about. If I find that a situation is becoming something I don't like - or feel that I am only doing for someone else - I get myself out of it. This time here on Flickr, and time spent on photographing is though completely my time ;) Thanks for caring.

You are a day behind... that was yesterday...but thanx anyhow ;)

DAY 18: 18. January, 2007 - Thursday (347 to go) Home
18.01.2007 - Planning the revolution
Found these at the harbor, while taking photographs of the ship where I used to be on while working as fisherman. They look to me like they are gathering to plan a revolution. This is Volvo, Cat and Hyunday - all huddled up together... very strange!

My Day: Much calmer then yesterday. We had very busy lunch hour. But at the end of my shift Heiða came and we had a burger and fries. Finished taking the last of the cans and bottles to the recycling and went shopping at Nóatún.
When I came home I had some quiet minutes in front of Flickr and was about to go to bed (just now...) when the phone rang.

I've been asked to come and take a shift at my other job; Doorman at a club. Soooo,,, I'm going. See you guys tonight.

You talking about the magnet eagle (16th jan)??? I drive and take pictures together at least 2-3 times a week!!!

Takk fyrir sys! Þú tekur mjög flottar myndir - líka af landslagi og öðru. Bæði Hrafnamyndin og bílamyndin (blái með snjónum á) eru mjög flottar myndir.

Yes I remember - but where did we have that discussion - to you remember...aarrrggghh

Thanx... no It's a magnet on a fridge

You are all right! I now have a confirmation from an underground toaster and an old Fiat (that have infiltrated their group) that indeed we will soon have a mutiny on our hands. In case mutiny breaks out we need to be in touch and warn each other, via email... huh, no,... phone... huh.... no, neither... eeehhh by messenger dove :P

DAY 19: 19. January, 2007 - Friday (346 to go) Home
19.01.2007 - Where my hand spends most of her time...
A weekend of playing with the mouse ahead of me.

My Day: Very usual day at work. But I got picked up by Heiða and Tristan after work. Heiða was planning to cook something nice as it is the 'husband day' today in Iceland.

Tristan ran in and to the computer, talking and talking his Tristanian language, which only other kids seem to understand. He was pointing and finally climbed up onto the chair. When I came he reached out his hands clearly wanting me to sit down with him in my lap. I put on the rally game, and he squealed of pure joy. And of course he did his thing in his diapers (why ooohhh why can't he do that at kindergarten - though today I had no guilty conscious for 'allowing' Heiða to change the diaper - as it is the Husbands day)

We had just wonderful dinner - and I am continually amazed by the fact how good the veggy food is. I haven't even began my meat diet, but already I prefer this food. Nice if this can happen naturally like this.

As I was working last night till 2 in the morning, then went to Nonnabiti for an hour, and didn't come home until 3... I felt tired all day. One of the girls at work was looking for extra work so she offered to take my shift tomorrow - which will be sooooooooo nice. That means I am off work from today at 17 till Monday at 20... yehhhhhh.

Therefore I've been taking it easy now tonight - just going from thread to thread here on Flickr - not commenting anywhere (I think)... just checking up on all of you. I am also preparing some photos from last night to be posted on the website of the club...and I will be posting the photos for the monthly project here... and I am going to watch a film with Heiða and eat Icecream... and I am going to install photoshop ... and hhhhmmm yeh right

Will hopefully have some real good time over the weekend to bother all of you with some horrible comments and opinions ;)
You are all Suspects today as the detective hasn't done his homework ;)

In your topic, somewhere on the 2nd page. Here's a copy paste:

Samrag Pro User says:

Thanx... it is all in the long time exposure (7 sec I think this one was) which makes it hard as I have to find a spot where I can steady my camera or just put it on top of something, which is hardly ever where I want to have the camera.

karinga Pro User says:

Hehe, I know what you mean! In our trip to Norway in summer 2005 we wanted to take few shots of two of us from the distance so Kari decided to put the camera on the fence nearby. It was real scary because the fence was like 5m away and anybody passing by could have snatched it. Also, there was nothing behind the fence, and the camera could have fallen other 5m down on the asphalt!
But the pictures came out nice so it was worth it after all:)

p.s. u can delete it after reading. goodnight!

This photo is such a family symbol, because I imagine this is the look the majority of us. Dark (ish) office area, with the monitor light reflecting on our hands holding mice.

Gratz on the extra day(s) off as well. Sometimes one needs that extra time to recoup.

Thanx... yes this is what we all are doing everywhere... Think the mac users though less.

Thanx... and the photos are great. The photo setting also... special stairs somehow in many levels in many directions (at least it feels that way)... and white doll houses all around. cool - it was worth it!
(I can't delete other peoples posting.. so just leave it... it is now all written in stone)

I will 'bother' you big time if you don't get job soon. What is this "hanging around at home all day, doing nothing".... go work, like the rest of us...!!! he he (ps. thanks)

Yes a little sleek mouse, just like you.

Thanx all - I will try to sleep and not spend all my free time here.

Thanx and I agree... it was more by accident.

I agree... we all know this. And if I don't get a long weekend like this ones in a while, my body just shuts down and I'll get sick for few days.

DAY 20: 20. January, 2007 - Saturday (345 to go) Home
20.01.2007 - Our clean car
Our car... finally clean after way to many weeks of him looking horrible

My Day: Was really nice. No work, school hasn't really started that heavily, Heiða didn't ask me to clean, do the dishes or anything of sort, and I slept till lunch time.

After 3 hours of doing nothing, I went to my causin, Ölver, (he has nice heated up garage) and washed our car. It was in real need of a wash, but due to the frost recently I haven't really had the opportunity to wash it.
At 19 Tristan's dad picked him up. They were going to spend the evening and night together, giving Heiða and I change to go out for dinner. We went to this real nice steakhouse called Hareford.
We had a wonderful 4 course, almost 4 hour dinner, with superb service and tasty food. Heiða got lost in the toilet taking pictures at the end of it (2 glasses of redwine and half an irish coffee), with me standing at the door for good 10min waiting (with everybody looking).... you guessed it = aaarrrrrgggghhhh

When we came home we took some self-portraits as we have so few pictures of us together. I found two that were ok, after a bit of photoshopping (which is the reason why neither of them become the today's picture). You can see them here

what a great post!
Your pics are great, and it sounds like you had a really wonderful evening.... makes me happy and sad at the same time. So happy for the both of you, 'cause alone time is always great and you two deserve to spend quality time together, but sad for me because it reminds me of how much I miss my fiancé.
You know, I go out with friends, and have fun but all the time even with lots of people, around me I sometimes feel alone because I can't share that happy moment with Michael and that makes me sad.
But this isn't about me!!

Hope you have a great sunday too!!

I know what you mean. I always like the quote from Pulp fiction about comfortable silences. When you have found someone that you can be with and not say anything - just share the moment without destroying it with some blather. That is what you can with your partner (if one is lucky enough). That is also one of the reason why we miss them - as they might understand how we feel, without us speaking. We don't have to explain ourselves, or talk all the time..
but.... now I am blathering....

Nice wheels! Winter tends to create a camouflage that provides a bit of stealth to cars. Mine included. The question here in Oregon is do I wash the car if the weather people say no rain for 24 hours or wait till summer.
No matter, my truck is turning green.
I saw the name Tristan in this thread and instantly shifted to thoughts of my son also Tristan, 27 years old named after Tristan in All Creatures Great and Small.
I've seen some wonderful pic's from Iceland. So many natural, beautiful places to photograph.
I'll try to swing by from time to time and say hello. DG

DAY 21: 21. January, 2007 - Sunday (344 to go) Home
21.01.2007 - Flowers in the middle of winter
...can anyone guess who is in the background...

My Day: It is dangerous to leave it until almost two days later to post ... if one is writing a diary like I have been. Because already my Sunday is a blur to me.

I think that when I woke up about 11 I just crawled to the computer, and shortly after to the store. Tristan came home shortly after that and we had some play on the computer. He was in such great mood. In the afternoon my work colleague and good friend www.flickr.com/groups/2007/discuss/72157594459534929/ internet company. We went to a movie together and had a good chat.

I don't think I did much more then that. Will hopefully post Monday when I wake up...he he... but I am on night shifts this week, and therefore my day is almost turned around. It is now 3.51 in the morning my time!!!
