Let's all encourage each other to stick with it and accomplish, for ourselves, something fascinating.

Guess what, more WORK!

Ordered cards from VistaPrint. They did fine with my address labels, but they aren't high enough quality to do photo biz cards... they aren't sharp or crisp, they look like cards faded in the sun. :\ AND the edges are cropped off, even though I used their template and did them nicely "full-bleed" to their specs. Ah well. Will try to get my money back.

It's Monday, we show the milestone to the bosses tomorrow. I work fourteen hours today, and collapse into bed.

I also decide to start parking on level 5 of our garage, so I have the lovely view every day, and can walk the stairs to get more exercise... at least it is SOMEthing.

The garage shot looks like something out of "Austin City Limits" - good stuff - walk the stairs - it IS something. Glad to see you caught up...good luck with the cards - no second chance to make a first impression and your business cards often are.

Leesure: In San Diego, I took some paying gigs, and it was fun, they loved the shots, and so on.

Going pro is a longer process, and maybe I will when I retire from game development. Unless you dive in wholeheartedly, the only way to start is to do what you did with the Shellys. Shoot for one family, then their friends and so on, until you have a solid portfolio. And keep in mind -- if you go pro, it's really not fun until you hit your stride -- you will be the ONLY PERSON responsible for people's memories. Simple photo shoots are much easier, but if you go pro, you will likely have to do weddings, and that's where the stress can come in. I did one, and my heart almost burst from wanting to be everywhere at once, yet not wanting to interrupt the ceremony!

Also, compare your work to other local photographers that have websites and offer services. If you are better than 50% of them, then go for it. :)
Tom Hall (tommune) 11 years ago
And thanks for all the comments and well-wishes folks! Folks in Austin often get t-shirts of that logo. :)

Took this to commemorate YESTERDAY actually -- Terri, Mindy and I finished watching ALL FIVE YEARS of Six Feet Under. The final show was the best final show of any show ever. Just wonderful and emotional, and such amazing closure. I was all emotionally drained when I got to the meet-up, but actually very uplifted! So great when art can actually affect people.

Highly recommend it.

Bows at the Video Games Live concert.

Video Games Live!

They performed classic and current games themes with an orchestra. One medley starts with Pong and moves through 20 years of classic console games. Then suites from Final Fantasy, Zelda, etc. Koji Kondo, the guy that composed the Mario and Zelda music, did a medley on the piano. And the kid that can play the Mario themes blindfolded showed up and played the original Super Mario Bros music on the piano, which is insanely difficult.

They ended with my favorite video game song, "One-Winged Angel" from FF VII, the boss song. Always gets me amped up!
