Friday, 29th June

A classic day at work, followed by an Paris International Meet up on Pont des arts.We met new faces, old ones too.We ate my chocolate cake (well, I had to finish it up at home !) and then we went to a gallery in Le Marais, and then we finished at the bar "Le Dôme", nearby.Eke (the guy of the pic) joined us, followed by 2 of his friends.

Saturday, 30th June

It was the french gay pride. I joined them thinking I was a bit late due to an endless nap , but I was right in time after all ! (I'm making a complete set about it)
There I met a few flickr friends, including "Fil Himself", who, unfortunately i lost (I'm really sorry my friend !)
I had one of my big bad moments after that, don't really know why.
We finished that day very very late at "Le tambour", a restaurant near les halles , which is opened all night long !That was cool :-)

Wednesday 4th July

When I think of 4th July 2006, it feels strange : I had no work, and I felt all alone.
I'm not saying it's far better today but at least I'm working, so that means less worrying.
Today I wanted to eat a huge chocolate muffin but I had to fight and resist, but it's very hard, I can tell you my frustration level is quite high !
Maybe I'll start a FL (frustration level) (while ladybadtiming has a Horny one).So on a scale from 1 to 10 I think I reached a good 7.
After work I was supposed to go to a starbucks and see a movie with my sister but she suffers of migraine so it was cancelled.
Then I was supposed to see a movie with a flickr firend and that has been cancelled too !
So I went to see "Raisons d'état" (I think it's "the good sheperd" in english) by myself...very long film (2h47) and in the end I feel like I didn't understand most of the film ! But I think the actors are good .
Another thing happened while I was watching the movie: I bought a goat cheese sandwich just before getting in and I started to eat it in the dark of the cinema, and thought it had a strange taste for a honey and goat hceese sandwhich...when I discovered ham in it ! It was the wrong sandwhich!!
And the worse is that I'm vegetarian !So that irritated me a lot, so when I went out, I went back to the sandwich place moaning and in the end he gave me my money back, that took my FL down a bit until I thought of having a haagen dasz....but it was closed !
Oh well...
~ Phil Moore 11 years ago
Oh no! That sounds like a semi-sucky day with the cancellations, and particularly eating ze meat when you're a vege!

ok, this image is not exactly taken on the 5th but it does represent my day : working, so always on the phone and this symbol means I have the headset on.
I am soooo tired these days...I went home, watched desperate housewives and then a bit of the new episodes of Nip Tuck: I don't know how far they'll go but today one of the surgeons slept with a mother and her daughter at the same time!
I watched the end from my bed,but I fell asleep...I wanna go back to bed!!!sleeeeeeeeeeep ! :D

It wasn't a good day.I really have a problem with week ends...I was supposed to go at a vernissage (one photo is mine) but I didn't feel good.
But then somebody rang at my door (which is more than strange because usually it's the intercom that rings first.
Anyway I ask who's there, nobody answers.
I look by the little hole (my english is terrible today, sorry) and see...nobody ! So I open and nobody's there.
I thought it might be kids playing and go back to my couch.
But then the bell rings again !
This time one of my neighbour's here and he apologizes for the first ringing: it was him but he got shy.(the man is around 40/ 45 y.old)
He says he was aware of the exhibition and he was there, thinking he might meet me there.
And then he tells me that my photo isn't a good one, that he's sure I have better ones, this one is too dark etc
Can you imagine ??
This man shows up at my place to tell me my photo 's shit !
After that I finally went to the vernissage but most of the people had already left.
If you wanna see it, it's at the bar "côté canal" M° jaures

NB: mine is the 3rd, starting from the left.

A real charmer, eh? That doesn't look a bad photo.
~ Phil Moore Posted 11 years ago. Edited by ~ Phil Moore (member) 11 years ago
To try and put an optimistic spin on things - it sounds like (a) he's a fan of your work (if he went to the trouble to find out you had a photo in an exhibition and actually go) and (b) he knows your other work and wants to see you shine!
It's almost a bit stalker-esque him knocking on the door etc, but with the first time disappearing and then trying again, it sounds like he was just super shy and then stumbled on his words the second time, peut-être.

Either way, I reckon you have a fan!

And hells, even if he didn't like it, whoever put together the expo must have done, and well done for getting a photo exhibited! I'd love to have that... I remember seeing one of yours in one of the bars down in the 14e one time and it was super!
[Phil: Un agenda visuel]
Glow* 11 years ago
hehe thanks Rob :-)
@collardgreen: yeah! Always be careful with children :D
@fil: yes, that's what I try to tell myself but I'm not fond of stalkers...a few months ago, whenever he met me in the hall, he had that big smile on his face and it's strange, he acts just like a fan but it's not as if I was a celebrity! Almost nobody saw me on tv or elsewhere...
All he knows is because of my website ( www.lemondedemaia.com )
Always be careful of the informations you give on the net !
And thanks for my photo , now it's hanging in my "entrée " (entry ??) :-)

Monday, 9th July

I had a hard end of day, because after eating real nice pastas at the italian restaurant, my friend and me got all wet, and so I stayed in my office with wet trousers and wet socks in wet shoes!I'm still freezing !
Then I had a cool evening.
I borrowed a technikart at the office and read it all (this took me hours !).
So i just ate some bits of bread while reading, drunk (drank ?)orange juice and then I went directly to bed (well, I took this photo first)
I do feel lonely at times.
But on the other side I appreciate to be accountable to nobody, if I want to read until late I read, if I don't want to eat a real dinner, I don't etc etc...do you know that feeling ?

Tuesday, 10th July

I came back home directly, and decided it would be a tv night, which ended in my bed watching Grey's anatomy(good!) and Lîle de la tentation: it's a french program (but I think they do it in every country) where 4 couples go on a trip to paradisiac islands and where loads of men and women are there to break their couple.
It's a program that makes me laugh and this was the first episode.
My game is to try and find out which are real couples, and which are fakes :D
Anyway, it wasn't good enough to keep me awake...

So it was supposed to be the good luck day.So unusually, I went before work to the "bar-tabac" very close to my home to get a lotery ticket;that almost made me late but hey, what wouldn't I do to be rich ?! ;D
After work, I met up with a nice flickr friend and we headed to the Bastille's "Paradis du fruit" (fruit paradise), where you can find the most delicious non alcoholic cocktails in the world ! (and I could also mention the fabulous chocolate fondue (fresh fruits topped with hot chocolate, even thinking of it makes me fantasize !)
It's nice finding friends through Flickr, when I opened my first account, I wouldn't even imagine that it was possible.
So we talked and talked, and then we heard the beginning of the african music concert on place de la Bastille, and I convinced her to stay with me a while, and I think she doesn't regret it.Good music, great atmosphere, and interesting nice looking men I must say hehe :D
So I sang, I danced, I had a really good beginning of week end !

14 juillet 2007
So this was the day celebrating the "prise de la Bastille"
I wanted to go to that demonstration much earlier where people dressed up as clowns but I prefered sleeping I guess...
So I arrived at Trocadéro around 6.30 pm and discovered the police had closed a huge perimeter around the fireworks, so I had to walk a lot with my pretty shoes and my tripod.
On Bir Hakeim ' bridge, I decided it was enough for my poor feet and , like many many other people, sat down and enjoyed my pic nic !
There, a family brang lots of food, and so they proposed an enormous Magnum ice cream...how could I refuse it ??:D
So after that, I was ready to wait for the fireworks, with a nice view on the Eiffel Tower.
After the fireworks came the worse part,: coming back !
It was really awful, unbearable;when I finally arrived to the subway, I had to wait and see passing 3 metros before I was able to get on the subway !When I arrived home, I promised myself to stop going to those fireworks nights, because even if I took nice photos, It takes time ,energy and stress!

This was my first try of a new system in Paris: "Velib"
Paris now gives the possibility of hiring a bike and the first 30 minutes are free. And you can leave the bike almost anyelse where in Paris.
I think I had a 1 hour ride, that explains why I'm so red on the pic !
And it's been a long time since I yelled "connard" (bastard, asshole) so many times in 1 hour: to pedestrians, to cardrivers and to other people in bicycle.Riding in Paris is still dangerous !
Anyway, I like the idea and just hope their system is gonna improve cause it's a bit shitty at the moment (I'll explain later)

And then he tries to get rid of them by licking his hair...

My second try of "Velib".I decided I'd do a shoter ride this time.
When passing by Le Louvre, I thought it would please the non french flickr friends to have a look at it.
Then I arrived at another velib spot and decided I'd leave my bike there, so it wouldn't cost me anything;but the system didn't recognize my bike and said I was still hiring a bike.I called their online service, they said they'd take care of the probleme and that I wouldn't have to pay all these hours...
So I had to finish my way home as a pedestrian.I decided to have a look in "Les Halles", where I found a new battery for my 20D and bought 2 new books :-))

We have not tried the velib system yet but all the visiting tourists have been using them. I agree that it is good for the city but they will have some bugs to fix in the system I think. Also - what happens when you try to return the velib to a location and it is full already ?? Then you have to find the next one and if it is full then the next one etc. I thought it would be good for those late nights where no taxis are around...will have to see about that.

~ Phil Moore 11 years ago
Sounds like you got well into the swing of riding around Paris - the best thing I've found for all the connards is to sharpen your elbows before you head out ;)

I tried out the Vélib on Saturday for the first time, leaving my own bike at home. It's a really good system, but I did have the problem that you discussed - around the 5e and 6e there were no places to leave it. Although I later found at that if you arrive at a station and it's full, you just go up to the screen and say that you tried and it gives you another 15 minutes to find another place to leave it.
A lot more pleasant (and in my opinion faster) than the métro - and yup, for those no taxi nights it'll be a God-send!

(Sorry for the big ol' post in here, Maïa!)
Glow* 11 years ago
No problem, I love long posts ! :-))
About velib, I'm not fond of riding under the rain (and I don't have a tissue to wipe the seat hehe)
Fun thing is when you're on velib, lots of people come to you asking if it's any good,if I recommend it etc...I'm sure love affairs will start with velib ("Oh, please nice young man, can you help me with that bike?" ;D)

Sean Lennon

I woke up at 5 am to catch my train to Rennes, followed by a train to Guigamp and then a train to Carhaix, where Les vieilles Charrues take place.
It's a big music festival, more than 4 scenes, and 4 days of music.
I had an accreditation for the week end.
Today I saw lots of different singers (good ones) , including Sean Lennon, John's son (photo)
It was hard to take a good pic of him since his eyes are almost closed all the time. And it's funny, loads of people say he really looks like his father but I was thinking he had a beard and that hat to look as different of his father as possible...
What dou you think ?
Oh, and for today's pic it could have been a mud one : it rained and the floor became a big mud place !I had some on my jeans, on my leather jacket....So I bought that horrible plastic poncho to protect myself from both rain and mud !Nice souvenir :D

Somebody told me to take good pics of my cat while she was still with me.
So here's Jazz, 10 years old.
Another day of velib, I think my muscles are slowly coming back, ouf !
I did enjoy the bus just after, and the short walk in the Buttes chaumont park :-)

Ooooh! I think I rode past the same Epicerie myself on Sunday - on the right-hand side of the Canal as you're heading up towards Stalingrad, right? Didn't notice the sign with Cadbury's on though - I've forgotten the taste of it and become accustomed to European chocolate!
Did make us chuckle that they had £1.79 Tetley's tea-bags priced up for 6€ though - c'est cher!

I'll be back in England this weekend - so if you have any requests for things like that, let me know ^_~

And I'm sorry to hear about your cat, she looks like a cool kitty >^.^< I hope you enjoy your time together; I miss having a cat...
