oh my gosh -- you guys make me blush... thank you. I was fortunate enough to get dipped into a good gene pool.

Now back to the weather -- We are such wimps here... it's like forget there's a war, we're cold. Last night there were more shelters opened for homeless and they tried to hand out blankets, but it was definitely below freezing and i feel so bad for anyone who had no shelter. I hear that the weather is atypical in Europe now too although by Samrag's photos you couldn't verify that -- it looks mighty snowy and icy there.

Watched inconvenient truth this week and it's looks like we have a pretty grim future ahead of us -- My first thought is what can I do that actually makes a difference (besides stop driving my SUV which would actually be good considering it get's 13.5 miles to the gallon because i mostly drive city streets! -- that would be a good start)

We are having an exceptionally mild winter indeed here... they say the warmest in 120 odd yrs or so... I just hope we don't get it all at once in february or march or something!!

SamRag came by to you!

You ladies in here... all of you so beautiful, so elegant, and just...as all the others in here have been saying ... WOW

Inconvenient Truth... yeh... bit of a shocker that. I didn't realize that we were so royally fucked. Knew it was bad, but that world would more or less come to an end within 20-30 years, unless we do something like not-drive-any-more-cars-ever-and-shut-down-all-polluting-factories-and-fly-no-more then we might stop the changes.

To be honest, I try not to think to much about it...I just get too worried. But we better get used to the extreme weathers (in both directions) that's for sure.

i guess i didn't realize that was the first time anybody that's been commenting in my stream had seen me -- i figured if you visited me here, you had probably wandered over to my photostream and there's a whole set with me in it.

yes, Sam, you hit the nail on the head -- we're royally fucked -- what really hit me was that when the tibetan mountain range discontinues producing the snowmelt that it normally does. 40 million (or was it billion).... a way lot.... of people will not have fresh drinking water.... that's a helluva lot more serious than Katrina or the Tsunami or anything we've experienced in our modern history. and yes i know my little bit isn't going to make much difference, but how can I know and not do anything....

Today's photo-- Jan 14

This afternoon my daughter and I attended a birthday party for my friend's daughter (she's the girl in the lower left corner). She's 11. Early last year she experienced some bleeding into her brain and has had a lot of medical procedures and attention since then. She just came off of prednisone and as you can see it really swelled her up. We're so grateful that she's doing well -- it's hard to see children suffer with illnesses. There were other guests at her party, but I assembled this group because they are all biracial mixed kids. Together the represent white, black, asian, latino and native americans. I believe that one day, well, maybe not since global warming is going to likely preempt our future.... ok, i used to believe that one day we biracial (yes, me too) people would be a domininant race in the world i'm sure we'd never multiply to the numbers of asians, but certainly would move beyond "other" on forms or no longer have to choose one of our parents as our racial identity.

a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/teeokeefe/357793211/" title="Photo Sharing">the mixies

i think Time magazine ran a picture a few years ago that was computer generated that blended all these races together and the picture was similar to these kids, particularly my daughter who is in the upper right side -- she is probably the product of the most mixture. her dad and i are both mixed. But all that stuff aside -- they're a lovely bunch of kids and as peaceful as they look there you can't imagine how loud they were running around this place Chuck E. Cheese playing games spending tokens and getting tickets. It's this huge pizza place with games and entertainment and it's hell for adults -- there's a big rat that prances around and they sing birthday songs and stuff.... i hate it. the one and only party my daughter had there was at age 2.

You are lovely! (No, I hadn't wandered over to your photostream.)

We saw An Inconvenient Truth last summer (and then saw Al Gore do the slideshow the next day!)

If we all do a little bit, it will add up to be a big bit. I for one have started walking to a lot more places. We live in a neighborhood with stores and services fairly close by. It feels good to get outside and walk to the store or post office. Not to mention that it's beneficial for the bod! :-)

What amazes me is the fact that so many people have seen the movie, quite a few have felt guilty for a few hours, but nobody's really doing anything meaningful about it. How many people have actually stopped and given the situation a deeper thought. Everything's linked, and lifestyle choices DO have consequences, however minor... TANSTAAFL.
As Robert De Niro says in Brazil, "We're all in it together, kid..."
BellaGaia PRO 12 years ago
what is tanstaafl?

I know what you mean -- It feels overwhelming, so you feel like your small part is insignificant.... but indeed, we are all in it together and a million small consistent changes would be significant. As I said, I can't ignore what I've learned now, and so I feel duty bound to do SOMETHING -- what, I'm not sure -- my daughter suggested I check out the website and get some ideas there.
ebilflindas 12 years ago
TANSTAAFL = "There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch"

Well I would like to return our attention to the beauty of today's photo, which to many (who are concerned about the browning of 'Merka) is another inconvenient truth: mixed-racial kids are f*ing beautiful, strong, and rising in prominence. Thank you for doing your part, Teresa! ;)

@glory defined -- I am such a bath product junkie -- I should photograph my stash.... I have tubs of (LUSH)
stuff (amongst other things), but last nite I used a LUSH bath bomb. You have to be careful with bubbles in a tub with jets -- they don't recommend it actually -- I've had my tub run over, but it's so much fun! And yes, to answer your question, it was scented -- AND had sparkles (which you cannot see in the photo)

@msspider -- you never know what you might need when you get a little free time on your hands.... big question is which of those things did you actually use in the laundry room?

@collard greens -- i'm pretty good at the airport except for my jewelry. sometimes i have to take stuff off.

@frere jacques... how much does your camera bag weigh?

@nicole b -- why thank you dear, as you've probably surmised -- I love pretty stuff :-) oh, and i guess in all fairness, that purse hadn't gotten cluttered (with paper, receipts, a dozen pens, etc) because I just switched to it that day too heavy to carry. i'm going to have to figure something out -- no joke -- who the heck carries something that heavy if they don't HAVE to. You can always carry a fanny pack if you don't want to carry one, but need to keep your camera on you (they're not too cute tho)

@ebilfindas -- Breakfast Club -- The quintessential movie of my era -- Yay John Hughes!

@ali -- I know what you mean about not carrying a purse -- the closest i get usually is a backpack, but when i have to carry nothing -- I feel like I've been liberated!!!!

@ Loca -- I'd love to see your purses!

@eeland -- Everyday you carry all that? what is smocking paper? Your purse must be huge!!!

One of the last

This is important to me because I live in So. California. Recent extreme cold temperatures have spoiled $1 billion (or 3/4 of the state's) citris crops. I think that prices will be rising in the stores and that they may not be so good., but the higher prices will not cover the loses, I've read. This orange is from my neighbor's tree. She gave me a big bag of oranges (sweet and seedless) and tangerines earlier this week. We've enjoyed them -- eating them whole and juicing them everyday. So this is my little tribute to California's oranges :-)

Just being 11

This is my friend's son. He is currently living in a group home because he's having behavioral issues -- they've diagnosed him as bi-polar and he's on mood altering medication. Brandon and his siblings (1 elder sister, 1 younger brother and 3 wk old sister) witnessed their mother being shot and killed by a family friend who then turned the gun on himself 2 years ago. As you could imagine he's had problems since then. Today my daughter and I visited him and played Sorry with him. This isn't a great photograph except that he's really happy here and for that reason alone it deserves to be in my photostream.

I got a couple of errands completed this morning and came back home and haven't moved since (essentially) -- i kept looking outside and saying -- wow i should go and shoot something, but i didn't. I've been submerged in a cyber cocoon of sound, word and image. The two laptops are set up because I'm still transitioning to this new one moving stuff off the old one, which is my work computer that I've had some personal things on (like music and photos). I listened to Pandora (which i highly recommend that you try.) it takes pieces of music that you like and chooses others for you -- your own streaming radio and i've found a lot of artists i didn't know about. I also reloaded Bearshare -- a peer to peer music software -- the new version is completely legal and i've been downloading steadily this afternoon (155 songs and counting) been looking through flickr and my friends in Myspace that I've been ignoring for the past couple weeks while the real world has dominated my time.

So as the day wanes, I'm still at it and figured i better take a picture of something.... voila -- overstimulation.... coffee & computers (and magazines & telephones)

I work at a beautiful building but because I've worked there so long, i tend to take it for granted. We have beautiful grounds and gorgeous koi ponds in the front. the fish there are huge and there are a lot of them. I took a lot of photos today, but this, I think, is hands down the most striking of them -- He is looking at me.... the visible detail when viewed in large format is quite nice....

@ hervcha -- of course it's OK I might go over there now too because i think since Bearshare went legal it doesn't have some of the live versions of stuff that were there before.... maybe it's my imagination... but that is one of the main reasons I seek out music online -- to find rare versions. The script for which information?

@ alithinks -- thanks for the tip, I'll check out Radio Paradise too...

incidentally, last.fm is also good, but it doesn't seem to track from all the sources that I use, so I haven't really gotten too into it.

Well this is what happened...... A long day today..... at lunch time i decided to go to the gym -- one of my promises to myself is that i will go back regularly and i was driving there thinking about whether i was going to shower afterwards there, at work (we have a small gym and showers there) or at home.... before i could make up my mind.... a car stopped suddenly in front of me and i wasn't ready.... i put on my brakes and the new tires i bought on saturday locked up a bit and i still slid into the car..... i pulled into a parking lot and he pulled in beside me.... this is a picture of the slight damage that happened to his bumper.... my car (the wheel off which you see in the rear) is fine -- not a scratch. he said he was fine.... for now, as he rubbed his neck. tonite I went to dinner at providence beautiful surroundings and beautiful food -- we had the 5 course chef's tasting menu -- very special dining..... if you don't like seafood, pass this place up -- if you do, you'll find the dishes inspired (albeit expensive) and tasty

going shopping - yeah - being in Budapest this weekend after staying in the country side for half a year (and Korea rural areas for two), I felt like a kid in a candy store. But I'm saving up money for the new Canon ;)

Sorry to hear about your friends son. I can't even start to imagine, what he must have went through... :(

I know that paralyzed feeling.
So much I need to do hear, but it's only me around. The dogs are not bothered by how the house looks ;)

WOW, I never thought that fish are really amazing, but a few experiences in the past and your shot teach me different :)

Oh shit about the accident. I hope he doesn't try to make money out of it :(
Monday three times somebody wanted to hit us. Sorry, but Hungarians can NOT dive ;) One of them was a big truck, driving too fast in a curve on our lane, but we managed to stop and he managed to get back on his side,....rrrr...... :S
Your dinner sounds great! I love sea food :)

Just stopped by to say hello - I would have said "oops" about the car accident but that would be too much like a pun...nice job on the fish.
