Sees is the best milk chocolate. For years as a kid, I used to ride the La Cienega bus with the women (and one man, who looked exactly like Fred Flintstone) who worked at the LA Sees plant. They occasionally reminisced about the time Lucy came there to get ideas about her famous cake assembly line gag.

Sees milk chocolate creams--I grew up on them--If I was not so shy I'd point out where I am wearing them.

Ok, here's the deal -- last November I nearly had to evacuate my home. I was terrorized to the point that I couldn't sleep, I had to have the lights on and I had to have TV or music on all the time -- because I was afraid that I would hear sounds...... It started like this -- i was sitting in my living room and i thought i saw something move out of my left peripheral vision. And my logic stream immediately flipped on and I tell myself "hey -- that must be a ghost -- y'know they say spirits float around and sometimes we only see them with our subconscious.".... and i wasn't scared. A little later, I saw another little flash, except this time, I got to actually see that this was not little Casper darting aroung my house.... no, it was Mickey...... the mouse. There was a mouse in my house..... i am really, really, really, really, really not a rodent liker. (yes, i know that i could have launched into some Dr. Seussian ramble like I do not like them on the floor, I do not like them on the door, I do not like them ..... oh you know how it goes....) no seriously.... I do not like them anywhere. And i saw him.... i left the house.... and my child in it -- that was kinda bad....i yelled for her to come outside. I called a friend to see if he would bring his snake, his python, to hunt it down -- something that somehow seemed humane to me at that moment... he declined -- something about wild mice carrying mites or other things that could be harmful for his snake -- 'scuse me -- WTF do they eat in the wild? they sure as hell don't order the little white mice up from the pet store. Anyway, he did come over, i went to the store and bought every type of mouse trap i could find. I think i had about a dozen of them. so he hunted to find the mouse -- like that was going to happen....didn't find them and set little traps all over the place.... so we get nothin...I can't sleep because i'm waiting to hear sounds of scampering little feet...... the mouse. This goes on for a few days.... and by the way, i've seen little droppings AYAYYYYYAYAYAYAYAY Finally someone tells me i have to put some food in the trap and that peanut butter will do the trick. OK fine -- I put some peanut butter on one. That worked. I get up and look at the trap and there is this little Feivelish looking creature that doesn't look like the RAT i expected to see.
went outside got the broom and leaf sweeper thing and disposed of him. the end.....

well, saturday morning i awakened to feel a little light flutter on my feet on top of the covers.... OMG -- i flipped the comforter but i didn't hear anything hit the floor.... I SWEAR i felt something on my foot. so i got up and was up from then (3AM on.) I hunted all over to see evidence of the rascal. And here, HERE, I think I see something.... aren't those footprints in my zen garden?! SHIT!

Thank you for your kind words Jray -- in my life, I've encountered a lot of death because I had a host of older relatives -- a LOT of them. But lately it's been younger people. The friend this weekend was 20. That's not something that's as easy to process and there's more mourning the loss of their potential of what they could have been if given enough time.

Friday I ate so many worms (and it wasn't that many -- less than 10) that my head was spinning and i had to cancel a meeting i was hosting -- I fessed up to the reason for rescheduling yesterday and nobody seemed to mind we went ahead with it that's the other reason I've been MIA so much -- work is ramping up --

*My sweet beloveds are far from me, but they are alive.
BellaGaia PRO 11 years ago
There seems to be a lot of pain in the world these days and I know that I am not alone in feeling loss. I was sharing with my therapist yesterday .... i hope this isn't too policitically incorrect. I in no way want to diminish the loss at V-Tech last week. But I also recognized that everyday in Iraq that same thing is happening -- every single day. People are going about their daily lives and are being cut down in numbers equivalent to the loss experienced at V-Tech -- EVERY DAY. And here it's been reduced to a small tally buried in the news ticking off the lives of soldiers and unfortunately, I don't think we even get accurate numbers of the civilians. Anyway, before I go too far down that path -- I just wanted to say that I appreciate the sacrifice that the soldiers and their families have made, I mourn the loss of live on all sides. In the grand scheme of things my life is good and I know what you mean about being at a loss for comforting words... I cannot imagine what you feel as a mother separated from your children. It is beyond painful to me. Thank you for sharing yourself with me :-) And you're right, while we're alive, we mustt live -- it's not trite at all.

OK - I'll admit wanting a pet monkey when I was a kid...but it was only because in my family we had the "youngest boy rule". This rule said that the youngest boy in the room had to do whatever needed done... This was before remote controls on the tv (and also 100s of channels - only 3 then)...so when the channel needed changing it was "Boy ! put that on channel 2 willya ?"

Sorry - the monkey would have enjoyed "youngest boy" status for a lonnng time ! I do hope this all makes sense...

I was the pet monkey when I was a kid.

As far as the meeces go, get a cat. Our little cat is a walking rodent holocaust. She has to range out blocks from home just to find mice to annihilate.

Now, I love me some 'nakes. I guess I got that trait from my mom.

Trouble is, a snake only eats when it is hungry, and they don't get hungry but once every few weeks.

Now a cat likes nothing better than to stuff herself with Fancy Feast and go out a-hunting. We have not had a single mouse since we got that cat in 1990. That goes for the old cat's fat young protege, Pookie, too.

Great pic of that silver surfer! Takes me back a few years...

I'm a bit disturbed by your remarks about kids pics on your stream and worries about safety and porn.
A couple of years back, I attended an information session at a workplace where I was contracting. I don't have children, but I have nephews and a niece, I care about them and I like to be informed as a lot of friends and acquaintances ask me for advice when they make computer and technology (gadgets?) choices.
At first, I thought the threats presented to the audience were overblown, but changed my mind somehow after I received dubious comments after posting pictures of my (very young) niece at the beach.
I'm a strong supporter of "live and let live", but I think children need safety and I'm still not sure how to make sure the environment is "good enough" for them without falling in a thought-police trap...
BellaGaia PRO 11 years ago
i think my pix are innocuous -- you'd have to have a pretty damn good imagination to get worked up over the pix of jade that i have on my stream. i did however, contact a flickr friend who uses his teenaged daughter as a model -- she's very pretty and he has some pretty provocative poses of her -- he also has her playing volleyball at her highschool with the team name showing. i figured out in a couple google searches where he lived and i wrote him that i thought he should at least make sure the team name is not on the pix (he's got some of the other team mates on there too, their parents would probably not be too thrilled) Anyway, he was grateful and said he'd blur or remove those pix. you can't be too careful there's a bunch of people out there with evil intentions and to think that there isn't is to be naive -- but i do think you have to be relaxed enough so that it doesn't consume your every thought and action -- someone's out to get me kind of thing....
CollardGreens PRO 11 years ago
Hey Bella - I dearly love to photograph children's eyes - they are always so bright and clear and curious. I don't post too many because of the vermin out there. Like you said - it only takes a few clicks with the right info and you have them. Here in Fr it is extremely frowned upon to take photos of children without advance permission...a bit sad isn't it? Keep up the good work...

I used to care less about sharing her "cuteness" when she was little -- I felt she was of less interest to whoever might be lurking -- now, now so much.... It is a shame. There's a particular innocence that is gone from our culture. I can't afford for her to be naive. She has to be aware of the dangers that are present. Not to be afraid.... just be aware and take the appropriate precautions.

Wow -- that's a first == I haven't experienced that and I'd be pretty pissed if the school tried to enforce something like that. That's what i mean about going overboard -- good grief!

Its quite common here in the UK apparently, school events such as sports day or school plays are now pretty much camera (and camcorder) free zones. Its such a shame that families can't record such memories!
