Circling

Due to changing to Daylight Saving Time last night, I woke this morning feeling like I was hungover.

I had planned to get out in the sunshine and walk, but it was kind of chilly, and I decided to wait until the afternoon when it had warmed up a bit. I spent my time taking photographs, most of which were pure crap, and waiting to hear from Ali.

Her day promised to be difficult, and I wanted to be here for her. She finally sent me a text message to let me know she was okay, and that she would contact me when she got back to where she is staying.

So I went to the arboretum and walked. I was originally going to take my camera to take some photos after I was done walking, but I didn't as I wanted to gt back home as soon as I was done with the walk.

It was a beautiful day, and several people were out flying kites. It would have been cool to photograph them, but that will have to wait for another time.

Ali finally called back, and we talked for a long time. After that, I took this photograph. It was the best shot of the day.

You can see a larger version of it here. And you can see a crop of it here.

At this point there is not much keeping her from home other than the scheduling of her return flight. And due to circumstances when planning the trip, we had no idea when to schedule the return flight. So we now wish she didn't need to spend these last few days there.

Your photos have been so beautiful lately. It's good to read your diary, too. I might try to catch up while I'm in this cybercafe, but it's getting pretty stinky in here. This place apparently hasn't heard of the new smoking laws, or is not beholden to them. And whoever lit up is smoking a freakin' Gauloise or some other really nasty-smelling cigarette.

:-)

Hi, everybody!

Just catch up with your diary :
1> Ali looks great on the web cam screen, and it is not so easy because webcam shots are generally poor
2> I like your floral serie, especially the one on the 9th.
3> It is very difficult to have your kids in a country and the one you love in another one. There is no full hapiness, there is always a part of you "there" with the missing one(s). I lived this "play" in the past and it was a difficult one. Hope you will be very soon under the same roof.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

I went to the arboretum twice today. Once to walk, and the second time to take photographs. You can see the others I took on my photostream.

The only damper on the day is my worry for Alison. Events yesterday upset her very much, and she was still quite upset today.

I can't wait until Thursday night. I'm going crazy.

She's A Rainbow

She comes in colors ev'rywhere;
She combs her hair
She's like a rainbow
Coming, colors in the air
Oh, everywhere
She comes in colors

She comes in colors ev'rywhere;
She combs her hair
She's like a rainbow
Coming, colors in the air
Oh, everywhere
She comes in colors

Have you seen her dressed in blue?
See the sky in front of you
And her face is like a sail
Speck of white so fair and pale
Have you seen a lady fairer?

She comes in colors ev'rywhere;
She combs her hair
She's like a rainbow
Coming, colors in the air
Oh, everywhere
She comes in colors

Have you seen her all in gold?
Like a queen in days of old
She shoots her colors all around
Like a sunset going down
Have you seen a lady fairer?

She comes in colors ev'rywhere;
She combs her hair
She's like a rainbow
Coming, colors in the air
Oh, everywhere
She comes in colors

She's like a rainbow
Coming, colors in the air
Oh, everywhere

Yesterday I bought a bouquet of flowers at the market to brighten up the place for Ali's return. I took a bunch of photos of the different flowers in the bunch. You can see them all in my photostream.

I took this shot this morning.

And now for something completely different. I converted this photo to black and white. I knew it would look cool because the lighting was so perfect. Of all the flower shots I have taken recently, I like this one the best.

It's been a lazy day today. We actually got up fairly early, but didn't get out of the house until early afternoon to eat some lunch. Then we lounged around for a few more hours before venturing out again to do some shopping and stop in at a restaurant where a friend tends bar to have a drink.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day.

This 'holiday' is a fairly big deal here in the States, but I know it isn't necessarily given much attention anywhere else but Ireland.

Here, it is more of an excuse to party, drink lots of beer, and eat Irish stew and corned beef and cabbage.

And cities with sizable Irish immigrant populations will usually have a parade, too. There will be one here in Lexington.

I don't think we will do anything special to 'celebrate'. I'm a bit under the weather today.

Cardinalis cardinalis

It was a beautiful day today, despite it being a bit chilly. There wasn't a cloud in the sky. I've been trying to get a shot of this cardinal for days now. But every time I went to get my camera, he would fly off before I got back outside.

He sits in this tall water maple and sings. A lot. He is marking out his territory and probably trying to attract a mate.

I need to remember to fill the bird feeder.
ItinerArts 12 years ago

Allan - I think cardinals are ground feeders - they won't eat from the feeder...at least that is what this dusty memory remembers. The arrival of cardinals are always a sign of spring for me and I love their special chirp...we don't have them here - pity.

Albert Einstein kept me company this evening as I was ripping some CDs of some local bands.

He is part of a series of dolls called Little Geniuses. We picked him up at a local bookseller today, along with the really cool wine goblets that you can see in Ali's diary.

What's She Doing Out There?

Our cat, Mr. Jones, was watching Alison as she washed the rear bumper of our car in preparation for placing a couple of new bumper stickers.

This was one of several highlights of the day. Earlier, Ali and I went out and bought a new mattress and foundation for our bed. The old mattress, a Select Comfort, is being replaced by a fancier model, and will be retired to one of the beds upstairs.

After Ali got done, we walked to the grocery to pick up a few things, then I cooked dinner and we watched a movie. A more detailed description of the events of the day may be found n Ali's diary.

Daffy-Down-Dilly

Well, I still haven't made the rounds of the diaries I usually read. We couldn't stay indoors on a day that was as warm and sunny as today.

We drove around with the windows rolled down and the sunroof open in the car, then stopped at a local gourmet shop/liquor store and bought wine, beer, and bread.

When we got home, I took this and another photo of a daffodil I pilfered from a neighbor's garden. Ali took a bunch of cool photos as well.

Next stop is the dinner table.

It's (Almost) Summertime And The Livin' Is Easy

It was another summer-like day today. Warm and sunny.

We went out this afternoon and finally bought some chairs to go with the teak table we bought last summer for our back yard. We got a nice umbrella for it too. And we stopped at a local home improvement store and purchased 70 16 in square stepping stones which we will use as a temporary patio to place the table and chairs on. Those will be delivered tomorrow.

There's no way we could carry 1400 pounds or so of stepping stones in our VW Jetta.

When we got home, we did some cleaning up of the backyard, picking up the bulk of accumulated leaves from a neighbor's oak tree, and mulching the rest with the lawnmower.

Then to celebrate, we sat at the table and enjoyed some very fine German ale we bought yesterday, while our dinner (barbeque ribs) cooked on the grill.

It was a good day. I hope yours was as well.

Here is our finished patio with table, chairs, and brolly. The 70 stepping stones were delivered this morning. They weighed way too much to bring home on our own. Probably about a ton all together.

We discovered that 3 of them were broken, so Ali will return them for new ones on her way back from an appointment this afternoon.

Ziggy

Early this morning as I was walking from the kitchen to the living room with my first mug of coffee, I noticed this tiny spider on the petal of the daffodil. This is the same flower I have taken a bunch of photos of the past few days.

Needless to say, I didn't make it to the sofa. I grabbed the camera and flash and took about two dozen shots of the litle guy. This is one of the best of them.

Ali just left to have lunch with our friend A, and I am doing some household chores. The first load of laundry is in the wash, I've filled the bird feeder (which is in view of the cat's rear window vantage point), I've emptied the dish washer and put everything away, and now I must tackle the worst of the chores. It's time to clean the cat's litter box, which is a couple of days overdue.

I hope everyone is having a lovely and productive day.

I'm just arachnophobic enough that my first inclination was to grab a can of bug killer and zap him, but I couldn't resist the idea of trying to photograph it.

The flash did bother it a bit, and it crawled up under another petal.

I don't know where it went after that. I figured I would let it live another day. ;)
