Love imported Italian boots. So I guess this is a good news-bad news sort of thing.

I mean, Cool that they are Italian. But, somehow it just seems so gauche that they are "domestic."

February 11th 2007 ~ day 42

innocent

I guess you could say my very eventful evening made up for a very uneventful day.
I went to eat chinese with my sister Claudia. We don't really ever go out together, she's 7 years younger than me... (I'm 30, she's 24), but I'd been wanting to go eat chinese for some time now, and we're home alone, seeing as the parents are on vacation... so we made a night out if it...
Well, as we later found out, it became an adventure!

We had a great meal, talked about a lot of stuff, we got on really well... (we don't always, we have very different personalities...). On our way home, as soon as we hop in the car, I hear a funny noise coming from outside... so my sister asks me to stop the car and she hops out, only to confirm her suspicion... we had a flat tire! Ugh, pain the ASS!!!
No problem, really... I've changed a tire several times... no big deal right?? WRONG!!!! Try changing a tire with no jack!!! I dare ya, try it!!!
As you can guess... the darn jack was missing... where it went to, who the hell misplaced it I have no idea, but Alex was not a happy camper!!

Luckily all was not lost, as we were close to a pub, so I walked in and spoke to the owner, who kindly lent me his jack.... 20 or so minutes later, we're on the road again... and all is well, except for my back!
Oh well.... it'll be something to tell the kids about!

Oh and all the while, I did this wearing my new boots!!! Boy would I have been pissed if they'd have gotten scuffed or scratched... luckily they didn't, so you can all sleep tonight!

The picture above is of my sister of course... unfortunately she doesn't realise how beautiful she is...

That is a pity. You are both gorgeous. And yes I have changed a flat tire many times without a jack.* It's not likely I'll ever do it again. I hope a resourceful person like you is along next time it happens--and that I have a jack.

* I used to drive big trucks--18 wheelers. And when I was "lucky" enough to have flat on the outside dual, I'd drive the inside dual up on a block.

I worked with iron workers, and once when my '81 Dodge Colt had a flat, the four of us got out and while the other three guys lifted up the back of that little car, I changed the tire.

Another time--and I guess this does not really count, my '73 Toyota Hi Lux pickup had a flat on a job site, and I used a 14 foot board to lever the back end up in the air enough to change the tire. I had another big heavy guy stand on the board while I did it.

Thank God the boots made it through OK! LOL Your sister is gorgeous (repeated for the um-teenth time -- I see everyone has expressed that sentiment) and I enjoyed the story. Hope work is going good... By the way -- don't they have the equivalent of AAA (roadside assistance )there. I wouldn't know how to change a tire if my life depended on it --- well, maybe if my life depended on it I could do it.... "dead comfy" cute phrase... all this talk of boots..... i think i got my inspiration for today's shot..... thanks for helping me get it out of the way early today!!!!!

lol richard, I know the song! Thanks, I'll pass on the comments!

thanks!

me too!!!

haahah thanks both!

thanks Bella... yes we do have the road assistance, but I'm such a fan of "girl gets by on her own". I will admit a very big pet peeve i have .... I loathe those helpless stupid women who aren't able to do anything... it ruins the rep for strong independent women like myself! I welcome help if I need it, but I love the idea of being able to get something done on my own. I'm very much the independent one out of the three kids in the family... I'm the 2nd of 3 kids... they say the middle child is always the most self reliant and independent... I have to say I find it very true!!

As for my boots... no one better touch them or else...!!

day 43 ~ February 12th 2007

After a not so exciting day, with a pretty shitty middle to end (a friend's mom passed away), I was glad to come home and treat myself to some instant caffélatte! Yeah, I know... blasphemy, an Italian who uses instant coffee.... but sometimes comfort beats quality 6-0 6-0 6-0, as we say

Works is going.... not good not bad. I'm still pretty much "observing" and getting really bored at it... I'm still trying to figure out colleagues. I'm starting to think that they don't really have much of an opinion of me, and that sort of irks me. I think they think I'm a bit of a dip shit, like a dumb school girl or something. I realise that I don't know my way round yet and don't really know what I'm doing, but I am not stupid, nor is this my first job.... *sigh*.
I can't wait to prove my self and show them what I'm made of!
Hopefully tomorrow I will finally have my desk, pc and phone set up... it really is impossible to do any work without the basic "tools of the trade"!!

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend's mom...

At a new job, I don't think anyone has high expectations of a new person, as it just takes a little breaking in time. Maybe they're not being as judgemental as you think... ?

Erica Day by Day 2007
sunshinecity 11 years ago
@ satrina: thanks... I'm not that close to her but in times like these you can't help but be there for them!
Being the new girl sometimes sucks, but i'm sure it'll get better soon enough.

@ BellaGaia: I'm sorry, I never meant to say that you're a helpless chick... on the contrary, you seem very independant and self reliant... I was referring to many other girls I know.
As for the Italian shopping, I'll be here waiting for you. Whenever you want to come, I'm game!

@ magpie: Hopefully things will get better... I just don't like to be judged before it's neccessary.

Wow. A lot been happening since I was last here! Can I join in the throng of admirers of your beautiful sister. You must look a dynamite combination when you're out together, with new boots, too. The portrait of your new boots was very artistic, and so was the frothy cafe latte. Now I must get down to uploading and organizing pics, and getting my diary up to date. Instant café latté?

In the land of espresso?
I'm sorry, but your comfort over quality is, as they say, "like water for chocolate." ;-)

I'm teasing you, of course. I'll bet the instant stuff you have there is a lot better than the freeze-dried mud I keep in the cupboard, y'know, for those times when I'll take quick n easy over slow and purrrfect.

As for workplace impressions--don't sweat it. I've often found that my initial impressions of new co-workers turn out to be completely wrong. Besides, you have us, your constant readers; who cares what anyone else thinks!

Wow, I am really getting to know what it's like to be a single working girl and living on your own....
My parents are away on vacation, and my sister is often out at her boyfriend's.
Tonight I had the pleasure of getting off work, stopping off at the supermarket, coming home and fixing myself dinner.... it's not easy! And thank God i was alone, no kids of family to cook for... just me!

I can't imagine what it would be like to work and have to squeeze in family life too! There are definitely lots of Superwomen out there!!

sunshinecity 11 years ago
oh I wish.... but no strawberry flavour in sight.... just a couple of choc chip cookies and some nice cold plain yummy milk! The Guru would be proud!

I'm sorry you couldn't be with your love on this day. I know how that feels.

But I'm glad you got out with a friend and had a good time.

Cool effect on the photo.

February 15th ~ day 46

Sometimes I find it hard to believe I'm 30. Not because of how I act, or what my life is like, but because of the way I look... I have such a kid face! Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad thing... on the contrary... works as a great form of entertainment when I see the shocked look on people's faces when they hear my true age!

Things are starting to warm up a bit at work... I think they'll slowly come round. I'm patient!
I'm still going on my lunch break on my own... oh well. I can deal with that! Today I drove in to work with the car, rather than with my scooter so I decided to go sit in the car and listen to some radio while eating my sandwich... that's sort of a loser thing to do, but hey.. it's cold outside!
This pic is of my being stupid during said lunch break!

the lunch break

Speaking of cars and parking spaces ( I know, we weren't, but I'm mentioning it now...) why on earth are people unable to park properly in a parking space here in Italy? Difficulty in using the steering wheel? I don't think so... call it selfish laziness, more like!

Oh my gosh. You are adorable. And I mean that in a non-kid, beautiful-type way.

(People over here don't know how to park, either.)

Cool picture in the stream also, but why are you so serious.....?
And by the way, did I read "sandwich" ? Hello......! you are in Rome, what about a nice tavola calda near your lottery building ? :)

oh but don't you know our sandwiches are panini and they're really tasty yummy and filling? I only have half an hour for lunch anyways so I'd never manage to be out in time if I sat in a Tavola Calda.

latin mentality or not, it's kind of crazy.... but it's also fun too!

I wouldn't say bad, I'd say patience-challening! lol

yup you heard me, he's in Indianapolis. Sucks huh?

thank you Alison! *blush*

errant parkers are one of *my* pet peeves too! OH! and people who refuse to use their blinkers properly are another. come ON. i like surprises as much as the next person but ...not surprises that could ultimately cost me hundreds of dollars in damages. yanno?

haahha oh I so agree!!!

I'm not sure what it's like in Italy, but I still can't used to the fact that here in France, when parking they just reverse until they hit something (usually another car), then drive forward until they hit something, and repeat until in (-ish).

I guess they take the 'bumper' literally!

By the way thanks for your visit
E sopratutto il parlare in italiano, andrebbe anche bene il francese!!
Non ho abbastanza familiarità con l'inglese per poter fare grandi discorsi ne per capirli.
